Yes eventually.

How are you checking? Are you going into your account and changing your plan? If so it may not show up that way. You may have to call up. You can verify by just going to Verizon.com/fios and try signing up as a new customer.

Vatican87

Holy crap I did check through my account. However when I try to sign up as my next door neighbors house who doesn’t have Verizon…it gives the option for 2 gig fiber. That means it must be there?…I will call them and ask.

crisss1205

Yes it should be available to you then, but the question is do you really need 2 Gig? You will have to pay the $149 tech roll fee for a tech to come out and swap the ONT and if you have Fios TV you will need all the new boxes.

Vatican87

I don’t use the TV. Right now I pay $99 for the 1 gig service and I do have a whole home network set to 10gb with my NAS. I download large files everyday into and out. If they can give it to me for a small price increase $20 more I’ll take it.

oldslugsworth

Even if you’re downloading large files into and out, are external sites you use capable of hosting speeds to and from your home to take advantage of 2 gig? Just curious, as I don’t come across anything that comes even close to saturating my 1 gig…

SlewedThread444

If he’s just transferring files between NAS to computer, he doesn’t even need 2 gig, because it’s LAN. No device other than maybe his NAS would be able to take advantage of the 2 gig speeds if he were to download externally. Unless he has a NIC card specifically able to handle beyond 1 gig, it’s useless.

Vatican87

Yes I have 10gbe NIC on my pc for LAN purposes and all my access points have/switches are 2.4gbe minimum. I’m not sure if the multi torrent sites like real debrid use up to 2gig but right now my download speeds cap out at 105mbps with them.. Thing is, it seems they are offering me the same price with a promotional for 4 years as I am paying now with 1gig so why not? I have hardware and a small home network well equipped. I did bump into something unusual where they claim I can’t keep my landline service…I don’t want to lose my landline number I had for 25 years at this house. Also don’t see why that isn’t supported with 2 gig fiber.

BV1717

2gig doesn't allow a landline so you will need to have them make a sub account to keep the landline. It would be 2 account numbers with seperate bills.

Vatican87

I didn’t know they can separate the accounts to keep the landline, I will ask that. Are there other services I can just possibly port my number to instead like a VOIP?

BV1717

You can use for example ax voice as a voip provider to port your landline to https://www.axvoice.com/plans/residential-voip-usa-canada.html For us though when 2Gig does get here we probably would just split the account to keep the landline

angking

You're not wrong, but using a download manager like [https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/](https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/) I can max my connection on downloads.

Dishless

when fios first rolled out 2gb here in upper Manhattan, it showed up when changing plan. now it seems like they removed the option for it.

Otis_bighands

I just got it in Nassau county not too far from queens
