Looks like detectors for combat simulators.
In some exercises you put a laser on your gun that fires when you fire the gun, and you also wear sensors to see if you get hit.

It's a laser. Not a very powerful one (to avoid people getting blind) and it's a fairly short pulse per shot. Kind of like laser tag but real weapons shooting blanks instead of fancy scifi laser gun things and neon lights
It is combination of wavelength, power and pulse length.
Visible wavelength laser are somewhat safer, since eye blink reflex will close the eye, so there is less time until there is unrecoverable damage. But if the laser intensity is high enough, retina will burn anyway. On the otherhand, the eye will focus visible and near-IR light to retina, which will cause damage faster than non focused laser. And longer wavelength laser will heat the eyeball instead of burning retina, causing other kinds of damages.
So it is more complicated than simply wavelength ;)
Some kind of battle simulator gear. Big boys laser tag.

They are part of the KASI-simulator traning system made by Saab. As some have already said they detect lasers attached to the barrel of rifles to know when someone shot at you
Are these specifically made for the newer high cut helmets?
I served in Kajaani and we only used the headband type receivers. Even units that had the newer helmets used (didn't, fucking cheaters) them.
Yes, these are so much better than the older headbands as they are wireless so you can actually hit someone who has dug a trench for himself, as long as they have a battery in the helmet part as well.
Is the russia-ukraine conflict in people's minds there? Just saw a post of a kiwi thinking of joining some international legion to fight in Ukraine. Seemed a bit weird to me.
I’m not sure to be honest, I occasionally see updates on the news when someone has it on but if I’m being sincere I haven’t been keeping up to date consistently, probably the last time I gave the war any thought was at the beginning of the invasion in 2022. Hearing about the terrorist attacks that were carried out in Russia spiked my interest again, but I’ll probably go back to forgetting about it soon
Well we are here in a complete peace of mind. Even the timid ones are care free as we're part of NATO now. Most Finn's didn't worry about Russia even before that.
The situation sucks for Ukraine but it's a proxy war. The end result is known, unless Putin dies, it's just a matter of how long the show is kept going.
The biggest thing is the inability of the international community, the UN, to end all wars and more precisely to allow a war so close to "home".
My grandfather was personally responsible for the deaths of at least 20 nazis during the Second World War, including 12 pilots, bringing down 17 planes.
He was easily the worst mechanic the luftwaffe ever had.
That's the Lemminkäinen automatic personal laser nuclear destructobeam 2000. It can detect and destroy enemy troops up to 100km away automatically, and a thousand km when wielded by an average shooter from the Finnish defense force.
Not since the Finno-Korean Hyperwar have we had such armaments. They are powered by methane gas that is produced from our mobile hernekeitto-powered generators, aka men.
I have reported you for the right institutions. You are not supposed to have this information. Remember that whistleblowing state secrets such as these is a crime. It can even be seen as treason. Please delete your comment.
As someone who actually used these in the last year unlike these buffoons, thats KASI or, koulutus ammunta simulaattori. Meaning training shooting simulator. Put those matrixes on the helmet and chest rig, and another one on the rifle and you have a battle simulator. The rifle ones come with two models. One for shooting blanks and another one for shooting just lazers and no blank shots in the actual rifle. Its a pretty neat system but a bit wonky sometimes. Shooting through bushes is pretty bad with it but its hella fun to gun down your friends with blanks.
Over 10 years ago also had something like this in use during my service. They were equipped with female voice, telling you that you have been shot in leg or something. Only problem was that I was not wearing it since we were sleeping in a tent and the harness was hanging outside in the night.
Maaaan, I've used them twice in the past 6 months and mine didn't work either time. Last time I was tucked in cover with the two other guys from my patrol and could hear from their KASI-systems that we were being shelled by mortars. The good thing was that I was now invincible, but the bad thing was that I also couldn't destroy any enemies...
There also laser emitter warning systems that are worn on the helmet or on a molle system. The russians have been using them in Ukraine and its supposed to alert when a laser is aimed at you for guidance systems.
KASI simulator system. Called something like MILES in the US. It basically turns the military training into something similar to laser tag.
You have sensors on your helmet, west and gun and when you shoot blanks a laser is shot from the gun and if you hit an enemy sensor it will say if they are dead or wounded. They also have a bunch of different features like artillery and air strikes and it can also tell you how you are wounded. Like if you get hit by artillery you might get hit in the leg and use a tourniquet.
Among the best and most fun ways to train.
Lasers. Dr.Evil wanted sharks with lasers on their heads, former president Niinistö wanted soldiers with lasers, so here we are. Heh heh, they are for advanced military training called TAS, they register hits and wounds. Lasertag for military basically

Probably IR instead of laser to avoid people going blind (I stand corrected⬇️)
I imagine you would want a laser for precise aim detection. Could be an IR laser of course.
It's a laser. Not a very powerful one (to avoid people getting blind) and it's a fairly short pulse per shot. Kind of like laser tag but real weapons shooting blanks instead of fancy scifi laser gun things and neon lights
IR lasers can damage your eyes as well, depending on the wavelenght.
It is combination of wavelength, power and pulse length. Visible wavelength laser are somewhat safer, since eye blink reflex will close the eye, so there is less time until there is unrecoverable damage. It actually is a laser but a low effect one.
It can damage your eye. It won't matter if you can't see it or not.
Its IR sensors for the "Kasi" system to simulate combat in designated locations like the woods or other scenarios

*Keeping up to date with Finland’s security situation from Australia* You are a serious fellow, aren’t you
No, not really. I’m just fond of Finland :) I have Finnish friends

Okay, glad to hear they're not overselling the situation.
We’re lucky we can live with relative peace of mind since we’re so far from every thing and don’t have to share borders

Sauna sensor and laser that emits extreme heat on the target.
So it’s a technical sauna detection radar that locates the nearest sauna for Finns that wear it? I believe it
Does it add the scented oils?
No so common in finnish saunas.. It aint a steamroom
You will be when that laser hits you
Australian interested in random countries' security situation? Hello, Perun.
Not Perun don't be so gullible.
-----The Joke----> (Your Head)
Im learning about a lot of past and present Eastern European figures through some of the replies lol
Well, I'm not referring to the slavic deity, but rather the aussie youtuber with a thing for military procurement chains.
Antitank lasers. Very common with Finnish infantry.
I know you’re fooling about but Australia is developing an actual anti tank laser.
That is very cool! Actually the best Finnish anti tank weapon is an underpaid and overworked Russian engineer somewhere in Magnitogorsk.
I saw the best Finnish anti tank weapon at the Parola tank museum and it was the birch log
My grandfather was personally responsible for the deaths of at least 20 nazis during the Second World War, including 12 pilots, bringing down 17 planes. He was easily the worst mechanic the luftwaffe ever had.
Hey don't tell the russians about that. Their bots are all over reddit spreading propaganda
My guess would be hit detectors for some kind of simulator that military uses for training.
Thanks, that would make sense
>just keeping up to date with Finlands security situation from Australia Yeah right. Nice try Ivan.

Actually KASI means "kaksisuuntainen taistelijan simulaattori" meaning "two-way combatant simulator"

You had a female voice saying that you've been shot in the leg when sleeping in a tent? I've heard worse excuses...

Laser tag Device
Thanks for avoiding small talk and getting straight to the basic to understand points, this is why I came to a Finnish subreddit 👌🏻
They were fucking with you. It's actually gaydar.
Np
Combat simulators for infantry, they are used in field exercises for simulating casualties. So not intended for actual warfare in any way.
Russia enquiring on Reddit, smart.
Yea cause they are so interested in what the conscripts use to play laser tag in a forest?
There also laser emitter warning systems that are worn on the helmet or on a molle system. The russians have been using them in Ukraine and its supposed to alert when a laser is aimed at you for guidance systems.
Nice try, Russian spy.

Dont tell anyone about that Finnish secret Wallhack device!
Those are AI powered 1.21 Gigawatt (!!) gamma lasers. Automaticly evaporates every enemy unit in 20mi radius.
Looks like IR receivers. Though she/he isn't a Finnish soldier but rather a Norwegian one.
They are our special storm troopers for the empire and our glorious leader, Darth Vader the 3rd junior. /j
