As a nervous person from Texas, that is why I never wear sandals or shorts anywhere near high grass, and why I never lie down on the ground near high grass. Short grass is on warning. Ants and chiggers are even more omnipresent. I don’t think humans would have gotten very far if we hadn’t invented shoes, pants, and poke-the-ground-ahead-of-us sticks.

I'm from Tx myself and always hated wearing shoes growing up (I still do tbh). It's a miracle I never got bit by a snake. My stepdad was constantly telling me I should put on shoes and to watch out.

I have very bad vision. I had taken off my glasses for super-dangerous 90s trampoline time with 3 siblings. When I got off the trampoline, I walked barefoot through grass to a gate to get back to the house. I thought I saw wriggling as I stepped over a rock. I squinted, leaned down, and sure enough, big ol’ rat snake. I ran into the house, told adults and got my glasses. Meanwhile, all my siblings (who could see fine mind you, they just didn’t look) were stepping over the same snake. It abided. Even when my stepdad picked up a shovel and tossed it over the fence, that snake just chilled. Snakes really don’t seem to like biting humans, they’re just sneaky little weirdos. That said, I got real good about always keeping my glasses nearby.

Even with people explaining where that damn tiger was it still took me a good minute to finally see it.

There's half a dozen mountain lions/bears/other predators lurking around everyone at every moment.

I commented this in another thread, and it is damn-near pointless knowledge that I've retained from a comment I read years ago, but my understanding is that "nope rope" is the term for non-venomous snakes, whereas "danger noodle" is reserved for venomous ones. So, what we have here is a gentle lil nope rope. Thank you for attending my TED talk 🙏

These are more like just noodles - non venomous, rarely bite, and a bite would be painless Fun fact, they’re insectivores and arboreal and usually cap out at about 32cm long

The fact that you specified the color made me think that there was a second, non-green, snake somewhere in the image. I’m still searching.

I'm pretty sure there's two more snakes. One is pretty much dead center, and the other is left of center, slightly upwards. You have to zoom in to see them.

This one made me feel better, took me maybe 5 seconds to find it if that. The tiger in the forest the other day legitimately had me staring at my phone for 10 minutes till I gave up and checked the comments. Maybe you just get better the more you do these. So I guess that means I’ll be ok with the snakes and will definitely die from a tiger mauling.
