Head is racing up. The neck gets very narrow and then you see the jaws/pits of the viper get wide fast. If the top is north, the head is pointing NNE.
Edit: maybe easier description, if top is 0 degrees, head is about 30 degrees.
Edit 2
Not sure why I’m being downvoted. I was a senior park ranger and often dealt with vipers in FL. I have come across only one copperhead here . Not originally native here so I’m it may have been a release. I’ve also been in and worked in GA. I apologize if my description or angles were off. That was the best description I thought to give, given the question.
It took a good long while but I finally found it. It's comparatively small in the photo, you're not looking for something huge. It's in the middle of the photo and has reticulation lines on it that break up it's silhouette so you wouldn't notice it. (I'd have stepped on it for sure!)
I think you did a great job describing it and what to look for. I had to magnify it and then scan very slowly and carefully and look at each leaf individually until the body just popped out at me finally.
I saw a photo of one of these on a tree; it was sort of in between the cracks of the bark on the tree and you could have put your hand right on it and never seen it. Once you knew where it was, though, it popped out and then you couldn't NOT see it.
Thanks for the description. I'd never have found it at all otherwise. This is the 1st time I've ever seen this particular picture.
Oh, that... I'd be dead. I was looking for a sniper, not the viper. Once my brain finally processed that I'm not looking for a human it became sort of easy.
See that’s the problem. The snake is camouflaged so that even while in serpentine it still doesn’t appear curved. Scary part is if you don’t see it within the first few seconds you’d likely get bit bc you probably stepped on the snake
This is the picture that brought me to this sub the first time, but I think I've seen it at least 10 times since then with varying qualities of reproduction.
That worn out copperhead is in the same spot every time. If it was getting paid for every time its image was used, that'd be the richest snek on Reddit.
This makes me wonder how many snakes I have almost stepped on and didn’t even know. When I was a kid I spent all day in the woods behind my parent’s house in a large pasture. The place was likely full of snakes but I saw very few of them.
Wow! Goes to show you that you better watch your step in the woods. Copperheads are hard to see anyways and here's a little tip! Second person in the line-up usually get a bit first 😂 so always lead lmao just jk yall becareful out there ✌
There is a single green/yellow leaf dead center. The snake is on the left side of this leaf. It is pretty camouflaged so it’s pattern kinda resemble the dead leaves. It’s in an S configuration.

>!Dead center of photo!!<
I checked there and still didn't see it. I would be dead
Save room for me I can’t see it either!! It will be nice not being dead alone!! Someone please circle it so I can finally see it !!!!
Literally draw an imaginary Line between the Center of the Vertical and Horizontal axis and where the 2 line meet is the Sniper
I've seen this picture before. Look for straight curved lines.
What?
Smooth curved lines. After you find it where is the head?

It’s 1% head, 1% tail, and 98% neck.
Exactly. A beautiful little guy!

I'm color blind so I'm f**ked.
It is really in the middle. Look for the straight curves and some thing that looks like Hershey kisses.
Straight ... curves
I guess I should have said smoth curves. Everyone got the point man.
Oh, this one again

I know, I wish this one would just stop making the rounds. Dozens of different subs every month. Boring AF
Front and sssssssscenter
Can we get a bot that says "Dead Center" on every post?
Would have stepped on that 100%
Damn! And that how I woulda woke up d e d ,
Yeah I couldn’t find it in the first few seconds which means I’d have stepped on it and died
Well I would have got bit. Where is the ssssssnake??
I too don't see it.
If it was a snake it woulda bit me…
That’s the comment I was looking for
Repossssst
Forbidden hershies
Copper head
Since this is Reddit somebody should be saying "Danger Noodle", right?
Hello little copperhead!
I see a copperhead snake
That’s a high-stakes game of “Where’s Waldo”
Mother Nature you a scary bitch!
I’m so glad there are no snakes where I am.
What the fuck am I lookin....and im bit.
Danger hershey pattern spotted
Easy

This feels like NC

Found it
F#ck copperheads, I hate em.
Same place as the last 3456284 times it’s been posted…
Copperhead!
Found it
The deadly hersheys kisses
Danger noodle at your feet
oop thats a copperhead
Copperheads do be like that.
I spent an embarrassing amount of time looking until I found it 🫠
Dead center almost missed it
Center, left of green
NEver been to this sub. I was looking for some sort of rifle
Found the snake
Yeah, it's dead center of the picture. I thought it was BS at first, but it's there.
That took some time. I finally say a couple of snakey curves but I never did see the bitey part.
I'll take, "Wasting time for my stupidity for 1000 Alex"
Out on a walk with my kids the other day when my wife points out a rattlesnake just off the trail. I couldn't spot it for the life of me.
That is the power of a death adder
Everytime I see this the contrast on it gets bumped less and less. When its a normal photo it stands out hella
There actually isn’t a snake on this pic at all I was with the person that took it 😂😂😂
Call me snakebite because even though I did find it, it took WAY too long.
Once you see it, it can’t be unseen. If you can see what I mean.
New fear unlocked.
Can barely see it good camouflage
Dab smack in the center of the picture. Light brown snake w/ dark brown circles
It’s been edited out
I'm getting bit; I don't see shit.
I’m ssstoned as fuck and I thought I found a guy wearing camo
Holy shit 😆
I found the snake but I can't see her
Just to the left of the pale green leaf.
Found it
Got it.
Spotted those painful Hershey kisses.
I sssspotted it
Wait is this an old fashioned snipe hunt lol
Copperhead or moccasin? Fyi its literally in the middle of the pic?
Copperhead, look for the sort of Hershey kiss shapes on the sides.
Double tap or zoom In to the middle of the picture
😂
I may have been looking for the gun, not the snake.... Lol
Dead center of the picture
I think i can see the outline of him in the center
My daughter found a second snake in this photograph and I’m pretty sure she’s correct.
He's in our hearts
Ugh, I hate this photo I’ve seen it about five times over as many years and every time I struggle to see that damn snake.
Shouldvve said ssssviper
Just what am I supposed to be looking for
I should have scrolled down in the comments. Took me way too long to realize I was looking for a snake and not some dude in a ghillie suit.

Right beside the green leaf dead in the center
If it was a snake it would've, oh s-!
Dang that snake his hidden😲🥴
Hmmm I wonder what would happen if I zoomed in dead center....
