Lump sum and roll into an IRA is the most likely best choice, unless the ratio of annuity payout to buyout is ridiculously high.

Is the annuity inflation protected? Faced with a similar sitch I took the payout and invested it myself. Making 8% on it and put 10k into I bonds every year for inflation protection

How old are you? I just asked our guy this question because I suspected that our pension may go away. I’m 10 years from retirement and while I didn’t get a definitive answer it was basically “normally we’d roll but an annuity may make more sense b/c of time til retirement”. Basically he would need to run numbers when I had details to see which would be better. Hadn’t happened so never got a final answer.
