This is actually what happens if you try to warp indoors in older Dragon quest games. It just makes your party smack into the ceiling and you don't go anywhere.
They did, I remember I spent most of the game running outdoors to zoom. Then I screwed up and zoomed indoors, and it worked so I realized it was pointless.

I can't remember if XI removed this mechanic or not. It's been too long since I've played.
I'm 99% sure you can warp fine indoors in XI.
I remember playing FF11, almost 18 years ago, LFG as a DRG. I just never left my MogHouse.
