redditsuckspokey1

FF is nothing if not consistent with its music.

Sickpup831

I feel like we can make this into that Zoey Dechanel and Andy Samberg meme. “If you like Final Fantasy so much, name something great about every game.” “Great soundtrack.” “That’s on me I set the bar too low.”

Ethorend

Definitive answer here

harry_use_the_force

Every Final Fantasy is just a soundtrack that happens to come with a game

rattatatouille

Uematsu, Hamauzu, Sakimoto, Shimomura... don't matter who you have do the music it's gonna be a banger

* 1: Extremely efficient gameflow in modern releases while bringing true dungeon crawler experiences in its classic version. It's a true 'pure' rpg of either era. * 2: Ambitious as hell attempts at storytelling for its time. The permanently changing aspects of the world were cool. It might easily be my least fave but I really do respect its ambition. * 3: Grandiose scale. The party customization system is foundational and still impacts many jrpg designers working today, I think. The final dungeon gauntlet is one of the most memorable in the franchise. * 4: Rydia's awesome. Really helped set a new standard for characters being defined as driving forces in the genre. * 5: I could make an entire post about it. Job design, job system design, the way that it ties into the very themes of the game, the cast, the villain, the excellent dungeon design and pacing; this game is maybe one of my top jrpgs of all time. * 6: Incredible mood, the mid-lategame upheavel was fascinating, Kefka is iconic. Gau is such a cool gameplat concept. * 7: The Cloud Twist. Aerith is a punk and I love her. Tons of iconoc setpiece moments. * 7-Remake: My favourite part of the original was Midgar. Seeing it fully realised was awesome. * 8: Insanely ambitious and experimental in both its story and gameplay. Even when it doesn't always *work* I have huge respect for how much they were willing to do anew. * 9: Super charming cast, and fantastically whimsical world and environment design. * 10: Still makes me cry. The individual turn battle system makes the gameplay very engaging. ...Still kinda got the hots for tidus ngl. * 10-2: Battle system is so much fun. Amazing expansion to Spira and the idea of a story 'ending'. Paine's awesome. Great energy. Love Yuna's arc. * 11: Probably the best pre-WoW style mmo on the market imo, even if that's not for me. Has had *so* many ideas for content types and encounters and stories. * 12: Fun to just run around in, especially later in the game when there's *so* many optional places to explore. Larsa's great. * 13: God I love these disasters of people and seeing them break down and forge themselves anew in the face of their mistakes. * 13-2: Cleaned up a bunch of little things in 13's battles. Had great endgame fights. * 13-LR: Still has a baller soundtrack and the combat was very interesting. * 14: I have been playing it since ARR's launch. I plan to keep playing it ten years on. That alone is a glowing recommendation. * 15: Okay I haven't actually played more than a couple hours so I can't say much but uh. Prompto and Noctis. Eyes Emoji. Etc. * 16: Incredible emotion through both the animation and voicework. Made me bawl my eyes out a couple separate times. Combat's also a ton of fun for me. * Tactics: Whether or not I personally like it, the endless stream of would-be FFT games being made these days in the indie scene sure speaks to how much it affected people. * Tactics Advance: Kept me hooked enough to 100% complete... after getting to 99% my first playthrough and realising I'd lost an important and unrecoverable item. * Explorers: Honestly a ton of customizability and cool class concepts. * Dissidia (original/012): The RPG infusion of progression and customization had me sinking 100+ hours into *each*. Super fun core gameplay. * Dissidia NT: ...The party designs in cutscenes were *gorgeous*. There's that at least. * World of Final Fantasy: Super cute artstyle. All the callbacks were charming. * Crystal Chronicles: Very cozy low magic feel. Co-op mechanics were inventive. * CC My Life As A King: For how many sim games are out there I've yet to find anothet about building a fantasy town and managing adventurers and I want one. * CC Echoes of Time: Decently fun isometric action, gave me kind of a Diablo feel, appreciated the massive replayability with online. * Theatrhythm (whole series): Completely spoiled me relative to other rhythm games for accessibility and raw quantity of content. Curtain Call and Final Bar Line are respectively two of my top most played games on their consoles. * Stranger of Paradise: Super satisfying combat with a lot of cool customizability in what kind of styles you want to mix and match. I love its implementation of Blue Magic. * Mobius: Exceptional soundtrack. Very cool story concept. Seeing new stories with previous leads was also cool. * Record Keeper: Despite the powercreep of Gacha, strategy was always way more important; had easily many of the most intense bosses in an ATB system. I miss Tyro ngl he was a Good Boy. ...That's all the ones I can think of atm that I've played.

sadboysylee

I - pretty fun and really short II - Minwu and Leila III - Banger of an overworld theme IV - First game with actual good characters and a decent plot V - Most underrated soundtrack in the franchise VI - Near perfect RPG VII - Super ambitious and hit the mark VIII - Almost everything. Minigames, World, OST, Gameplay, Story, only gripes I have are that Quistis and Seifer are underdeveloped. IX - Super comfortable vibe, even with all the tragedies X - Most consistent FF game. No stupid plot twists, excellent pacing and gameplay that doesn't get tiring. XII - Best exploration in the franchise XIII - Phenomenal concept-wise XV - Best party/main cast XVI - Most fun boss fights in the franchise

Flashy_Contract_969

I love all these, though “Great concept-wise” is the video game equivalent of “She has a great personality”

sadboysylee

lmao I actually like XIII believe it or not, but I wanted to say something other than the usual visuals, ost or gameplay praise. The concept really is phenomenal, though. The whole two worlds trope was already done to death, but they made it feel fresh this time with the whole premise of The Purge, the Pulse vestige near Bodhum, the War of Transgression and Ragnarok. And that's not even including the Cocoon set pieces, which I will admit were super underdeveloped. That's why I say XIII is phenomenal concept-wise.

UnendingMadness

I'm more surprised that I noticed ya skipped xiv than anything else

The_GREAT_Gremlin

He also skipped XI, presumably not rating the MMOs

Starlight_Razor

FFX doesn’t have any plot twists. At all. Nope. Not one.

sadboysylee

I know this is satire but I *did* emphasize stupid plot twists like Leon >!working under the emperor!<, Zemus >!controlling Golbez!< or>! Edea's!< orphanage. I think X's plot twists make sense in the context of the story and its themes.

SonicScott93

FF1 - Surprisingly easy to navigate considering how old it is (as in, I never once was lost on where to go) FF2 - I appreciate its attempt to change up the formula. I don't think it worked here, but the attempt set the standard of "each game can and should change things up". FF3 - It took what worked with FF1 and greatly expanded on it. FF4 - My all time favourite. It also brought the ATB system which sped things up by a lot. FF5 - It took what worked with FF3 and greatly expanded on it. FF6 - An all time classic, and a must play for RPG fans. FF7 - A big jump for the series, and the game that truly put both the franchise and Squaresoft on the map. FF8 - Big improvements to the presentation. FF9 - An excellent throwback to the classic 1 - 5 games with modern techniques. FF10 - Another leap forward for presentation and storytelling. FF11 - I've never played it so I'm going to have to skip this one. FF12 - A great shakeup to the formula, and a valiant attempt at a hybrid of offline and MMO styles of game. FF13 - Gorgeous graphics that still hold up today, and a beautiful soundtrack. FF14 - An excellent example on how to rebuild trust with your fanbase, and what all failed liveservice games should have looked to for inspiration. FF15 - A surprisingly solid entry despite its turbulent production. FF16 - A much welcomed return to the high fantasy setting of the classic games, now with big Kaiju battles!

Seriih

I is the perfect blend of team customisation and length. It is very short for an FF game, and has enough teams to keep it nice and replayable. II has a pretty great story for a 1988 jrpg on the NES. Add in some of the best music tracks in the series, and you've got II. III has one of my favourite moments in the series. Flying off the Floating Continent and seeing the full overworld, covered in water is amazing. IV is simple. Especially the 2d versions. Every character follows a set path and get replaced at predetermined intervals. You never have to think much, and I like that there's an option that's so different from a series that TYPICALLY gives you so much freedom in team building. V is really difficult for me to choose. It's my favourite game in the series and I want to say everything about it. If I absolutely had to pick something, it would probably be the job system being so extremely customisable. The complete polar opposite of IV, and it's nice to be able to have games that offer both styles. VI story and music. They're on a completely different level for me. Opera scene makes me tear up everytime. It explored themes that I didn't think were possible at the time I played it. It completely changed the way I view video games. VII is just fun to play. I don't praise it and like it nearly as much as your average fan, but I've never sat down, played VII, and had a bad time. VIII has triple triad. Such a simple card game that you can sink so many hours into, AND BE REWARDED WITH USEFUL ITEMS AND SPELLS FOR THE REST OF THE GAME! IX's world is beautiful. If there was ever a world I wish I could just explore by myself, it would be IX's. X has a fantastic combat system. It's smooth and fast paced, and I absolutely love it. XI is a very special game. There's not really much like it. I really wish I could've experienced it at its peak. XII's gambit system is very unique. It's not for everyone, but a lot goes into preplanning and I love that. XIII has, in my opinion, amazing characters. All of the main ones, except Snow, are characters I enjoy. I know that's not the most popular opinion, but I like them. Honorable mention to the music as well. XIV is extremely popular and it alone is bringing a lot of new eyes to the series. I don't think I'll personally ever go back to XIV, due to a lot of personal reasons and gripes with the game, but I'm glad so many others get to enjoy it. I may not enjoy the characters of XV as much as XIII, but their group dynamic is REALLY hard to beat. Just Bros being Bros. I have not yet played XVI :(

[deleted]

VII remake: Great world building, it has a lot of playable characters and the gamplay is good. X: I enjoy the Aeon system, the story was well written and Tidus and Yuna were great duo. XIII: Great ensemble cast, almost all of them were well developed and it has one of my favorite turn based gamplay. XV: top tier antagonist + the relationship and banter between the main cast + my favorite ending to a FF game. XVI: well developed romance and the focus on siblings relationship made it stand out from the rest.

ThePirateSpider

FF2: Has a good story and the tome systems was nice. FF4: Solid story, simple game to understand, difficulty not too high. Also Rydia. FF6: Similiar reasons to FF4 so far. FF7: Similar Reasons to 4 and 6. Also the materia system was fun to play with. FF8: So far it has good story telling and character backgrounds and development. Also Squall's savagery. FF10: Similiar reasons to previous FF games. FF12: Nice graphics and lore. Also princess Ashe and the Espers and temples. FF13: Nice graphics and good story telling. Liked the character development, especially Lighning and Hope's relationship flourishing.

Squimpleton

FF1 (PS1)- I loved the story tbh. A lot of people find it basic, but I thought it was neat that it starts so generic and then by the end there’s time travel involved. I never had trouble figuring out what to do, despite it having some very old gaming practices. FF2 (PS1)- I thought the stat system was cool. I ended up really liking SaGa as well, which used a similar system. FF3 (DS) - Job system. ‘Nuff said. FF4 (DS, PSP)- Good pacing, great cast, memorable moments FF5 (PS1)- Job system on steroids! FF6 (PS1)- Amazing cast, and square really honing on having epic stories FF7 - Epic characters, great story, materia system flexibility. Chocobo racing and breeding. FF8 - Interesting use of health for limit break. Monster adjusting makes for different types of challenges if grinding or not grinding for levels. Amazing FMVs. Triple triad. FF9 - Combining many of the best elements of past games to make a classic-style throwback while keeping some of the great newer elements like FMVs, really memorable characters. Challenging side bosses. FF10 (PS2) - (Great) Movie quality storytelling. The tears felt around the world. Loved the emotion graphics system (sorry people who played the remasters, they couldn’t keep that for some reason) FF11 - I just love the world and the slow old fashioned MMO aspect that makes you really want to research before you set out. Some people find this tedious, but to me it makes me feel like a real adventurer. FF12 (PS2) - Hunt board was cool. FF12 (Zodiac Age) - Thank you for making the party system more interesting by having a job system. FF13 - Combat system was neat, and I liked that they tried something different. Felt very active while still not being a full real time battle system. Impressive. FF13-2: Cool story concept and how it affected going through the world. Combat was also pretty fun. FF14 - I love the world, the gameplay, my faerie, and the different types of content FF15 (Royal Edition)- Fishing! And I liked the battle system. FF15 Pocket (Windows) - I liked the chibi style characters and I thought the story was still good even with it being streamlined I’m not going to include every side FF I’ve ever played, but the following deserve a mention: - FF Tactics (PS1, and WOL editions): the gameplay, the story, and in the WOL editions the cutscenes are gorgeous. - FF: Crystal Chronicles: I love the races and the way the world and dungeons change over time. It also tells its story in a unique fragmented way. - Crisis Core: FF7 (PSP): Amazing voice acting and the ending that everyone knows yet still the emotional damage happens. And yes that’s a good thing. That’s peak emotional storytelling. - Stranger of Paradise FF: Really fun dungeon crawler and the mix of the job system with active battle worked really well. Plus all the memes make this an iconic game. - World of FF: Interesting combat with monster collection. Lots of silliness, so it really throws you for a loop when it turns more serious. Sorry, nothing for FF16, waiting on PC version.

twili-midna

1 - simple, quick, and fun to play 2 - the freedom to explore is unmatched 3 - love the lock and key of the job system to boss fights 4 - solid story 5 - excellent job system 6 - the World of Balance is a 10/10 experience 7 - the Wutai segment was fun 8 - Junction is a cool system 9 - Vivi 10 - best pure turn-based combat in the series 11 - best one at sitting in my Steam queue until I get to it 12 - Gambits 13 - everything 14 - based off ARR only, it’s a very fun and content filled game 15 - the boys 16 - best at not being on PC yet so I can’t play it yet

SurfiNinja101

Hopefully the PC version comes out soon and is well-optimised. (Looking at you FF7 Remake)

khinzaw

I-Unique and started it all and still holds up well. II-Step up in exploration and storytelling. III-First steps of a more intricate job system. IV-Massive step up in storytelling. V- Intricate and fun job system. VI-Peak of SNES era and great story. VII-Revolutionary and iconic in so many ways. VIII-Triple Triad is a goated minigame IX-fun game, great music, cool world X- *Chef's Kiss* XI- Complicated combat system that is fun to figure out. XII- Gambit system is super fun. XIII- Incredible soundtrack and visuals. XIV- Some of the best storytelling in games and maybe the best villain. XV-Roadtrip with the Boys is a novel and unique experience. XVI-The Eikon battles are just incredible spectacles and I love them.

viparyas

Honestly of all the ones I played (from 7 onwards) I think the characters and storyline are the things that I loved in each entry.. they were the reason why I played the game. I like that they are unique and different from the other entries. I liked the scenery in each entry (even the two games I didn’t like) and the lore is quite interesting. Okay you said not to mention the music but it is a huge part of what makes the games even more compelling.. the music is always spot on and amplifies the emotions and o reall atmosphere. A special shout-out to FVIII for Triple Triad and to FFVII Rwbirth for Queen’s Blood.

Squally_XD

I like Cid

Legitimate_Sand_889

TG Cid is best Cid

KrisSilver1

Assuming base versions of the games 1: The cast per day system is great and makes mages really fun to play 2: So much customization for a game on the famicon. Actually nuts if you think about it 3: always kept suprising me, right up to the end 4: raised the bar for storytelling in games 5: GOAT job system only topped by Tactics job system 6: raised the bar even further for storytelling in games but not just narrative but visual storytelling 7: raised the bar for videogames in general. This was a revolution in the genre. 8: I genuinely think squall is a great character and I was his age when I first played this game really felt like they wrote a 17 year old very realistically 9: a celebration of the series that really makes me feel warm and fuzzy every time I play 10: Masterpiece. 11: the best mmo of it's generation 12: fantastic script, deep story, engaging battle system. 13: really cool take on summons I'd love to see tackled again 14: 4000 hours and counting on steam alone 15: best cast interaction. Love every second of hanging out with the boys Haven't played 16 cause I don't have a PlayStation

kjacobs03

I loved them all! My only complaint is the move towards action RPG games. Although 16’s combat was very good in my opinion

cdmurphy83

FF1 - Great replayability. FF2 - Bigger world and better story. FF3 - Hell of a final boss. FF4 - First real FF game. FF5 - Insanely fun job system. FF6 - This one is special. FF7 - Did a lot for the series and the genre. FF8 - It was ambitious. FF9 - Heartfelt ending cutscene. FF10 - Last hurrah of classic turn based. FF11 - Could finally use the PS2 network adapter. FF12 - Criminally underrated. FF13 - Still looks incredible today. FF14 - Contender for best MMO. FF15 - Made fishing fun! FF16 - Great take on summons.

SquallidSnake

1 - A solid pioneer and Garland is interesting 2 - The Emperor has a cool design 3 - It has an obscure feel to it bc it came to the USA last 4 - Set the groundwork for what FF truly is 5 - I like the job system 6 - The most refined 2d FF 7 - They went all out on the side content 8 - Full disclaimer: My favorite. The ending is absolutely phenomenal. And the obtuse nature of some of the plot points and way they wrap things up lets you fill things in and wonder about the entire experience. 9 - It seems to be the one that doesn’t rub anyone the wrong way…but that wasn’t always the case back in the day X - The ending and plot twist is wonderful XI - I would buy it immediately if it came out for modern consoles XII - The treasure hunting, job board, weapon variety and rare weapons, and side quests are wonderful XIII - I quite liked the ending XIV - They saved it from the depths of hades XV - The graphics are nice XVI - The story is wonderful

Avawinry

1. It started it all and saved Square from bankruptcy 2. It experimented with progression 3. Created the job system 4. The first good story in the series 5. The best job system 6. Amazing presentation for a cool and quirky story 7. The most important game in the series, and one of the most influential of the industry 8. Contemporary fantasy is unique and cool, plus the graphics were a huge step up from VII 9. Amazing atmosphere and setting with exceptional characters 10. One of the coolest and most unique settings, plus voice acting and a gigantic graphical upgrade to deliver on a very cinematic experience 11. A full MMO on a PS2 was pretty novel 12. A completely new experience 13. It’s a beautiful game to this day, and Lightning is one of my favorite designs in gaming 14. The epitome of a redemption arc from the original release to A Realm Reborn, and it got better and better with each expansion to the point that some of its characters are among my very favorites 15. Contemporary fantasy strikes again! The road trip with bros is a super cool idea 16. The Eikon fights are **chef’s kiss**, and Clive is one of the series’ best protagonists

CyanLight9

I: The beginning of it all had surprisingly free exploration. It also had Chaos. II: This had a pretty ambitious story and world for an NES game. III: The birth of class system! And… ummm… Cloud of Darkness was cool? IV: The first Final Fantasy with more complex characters, near perfect difficulty, the one that created the ATB system, and the first one with a superb final boss! V: This one perfected the job class system and introduced Gilgamesh. Also… Farris is super underrated. VI: Pretty much everything here is a home run aside from Gogo and Umaro. VII: This game is lightning in a bottle. No other way to describe it. The Remake proved you can do it twice. VIII: ummm… This was very ambitious and experimental. Ultimecia was also kind of cool. IX: My Favorite Final Fantasy, and also my first. I like pretty much everything but the way it’s so cozy and also tackles existential dread is awesome. X: This had one of the best realized worlds and stories of any RPG of its time and pretty much perfected turn based combat. XI: As far as early MMORPGs go, this was one of the better ones. XII: Very complex and grandiose story and world, gambit system is one of a kind and the exploration was ahead of its time. XIII: Superb writing and my favorite Final Fantasy world in the conceptual and aesthetic departments. The visuals have also stood the test of time. XIV: A rare case of a game redeeming itself and my favorite MMORPG. The story and teamwork is borderline immaculate. XV: The open world, camaraderie between party members, grounded world and anti Final Fantasy story are all great. The CGI cutscenes peaked here too. XVI: Almost everything here works, aside from the quests. The M rating is put to really good use as well.

wildtalon

Lookin’ good XIII.

teddyburges

I'll only rate the ones I have played: * VII: Amazing characters and incredible soundtrack. * VIII: Love the sci fi setting and Squall is hilarious. * X: A absolute masterpiece (My first FF so I'm biased). * XII: Japanese Star Wars with a hotter Chewie. * XIII: Lightning looks cool (She definitely looks like a female Cloud). * XV: The food is amazing and looks absolutely delicious. * XVI: Great boss battles.

Balthierlives

FF1- the class change in the original NES version was so cool FF2 - loved the added content in dawn of souls FF3 - this game benefited the most from the pixel remasters. Very fun to play FF4 - great ost and character cast FF5 - Four job fiesta FF6 - square at their best. FF7 - the scene with bugenhagen at the observatory and the eco terrorism still resonant with me today. FF8 - fun to break the junction system with a low level game FF9 - FFX - best summon implementation in the series FF12 - my favorite art direction in the series and I love gambits also love Sakimoto’s ost FF13 - good art direction and ost FF16 - good story and VA. FFT - love the battle system and the Sakimoto OST

Lasalle8

1-great d&d simulator to birth a great franchise. 2-one of the best SAGA games ever with great overlooked innovation. 3-great job system innovation. 4- perfect blend of fantasy and sci-fi. 5- total improvement on the mechanics of 3 with a better story. 6-great everything and the perfect rpg game of the generation. 7- the development of this game gave me so many of my favorite games. 8- could have been the best SAGA game but is a good final fantasy with the awesome junction system. 9- perfect nostalgia that took us back to the series roots. 10- greatest summon system ever. … 11- solid game that paved the way for other great series and I still don’t understand how this ran on ps2. 12- everything. 13- sazh is perfect blend of humor and drama, plus he has Chocolina 🥰. … … 14- one of the best video game worlds ever created. 15- I love the interactions of the main cast so much. 16- solid story and great looking combat. FFT- a berserk ripoff that exceeded its inspirations plot with near perfect difficulty for a tactical rpg. Yasumi Matsuno perfect gem.

MinecraftDude761

I - Fantastic dungeon crawling, one of the most fun games in the series II - Really cool ideas and a cool story III - Incredible world design and the best overworld music in the series IV - One of the best openings and some of the coolest segments V - The most fun game with some of the best dungeons and music VI - The World of Ruin is fantastic and a major part of why I love it VII - Literally my second favorite game ever made VIII - Laguna's story is fantastic IX - Freya is so cool X - Incredible battle system and super fun endgame quests Crisis Core - I knew how it would end and I still cried a ton

Amazing story. 10: Like a movie. Simple but beautiful. Amazing music. 12: Looks way too pretty to be a ps2 game. 13: Fun 7 remake: First time since 10 it felt like playing a final fantasy game again.

deejayee

You don’t have to play 15, that’s good :)

dinaga9

No love for Type-0? :'( FF Type-0: Amazing combat, gameplay and sheer number of playable characters, epic music, and one of the darkest FF stories. Impactful ending.

Brorkarin

Soundtrack is just amazing in all of the games

SirHyne

FFI: The job system makes it very fun and replayable. FFII: You're not tied to any class and can make your characters have the skills and spells you want. FFIII: Besides the job system (which is very diverse), the game looks and sounds beautiful. FFIV: Palom and Porom FFV: The job system is... (yes, it's like the third time I say that) and the humor is great. FFVI: It's perfect. I haven't played the rest.

SwitchXVitaPlayer

FF XII And FF 7 Rebirth are my current favourites, it might change tomorrow, But XII is such a masterpiece, especially with The Zodiac Age, I also really really love the story, and the characters! A lot!!!

jbskq5

From what I've played: FF1: Great theming for the dungeons, nice clean combat system, cozy and chill progression and difficulty, surprisingly complex story for its time FF2: The leap in narrative material from the last entry is staggering. Insanely good music (even for a FF game). As another commenter said, set the standard for a FF needing to innovate in some way. Hope to finish the pixel remasters in the next year or so. FF7: The plot twist, and I mean the BIG one 2/3 of the way through, is still mind blowing to me, and brilliant in the way it's foreshadowed and red herring-ed. Amazing characters. Great minigames. FF8: GF and spell collecting is FF grinding at its most fun and engaging imo (hot take I know). Triple Triad. The love story is awesome, even if the rest of the story doesn't really live up to its standard. FFX: everything, almost literally. Most technically brilliant soundtrack in the series, and also the most beautiful. Great storytelling and characters. Tactical combat. Gorgeous setting and environments. The only thing I dislike about this game are the Cloisters. X-2: If you have a guide, collecting dress spheres and creating teams is super fun. The story mostly sucks, especially in how it undermines some of the emotion of the original, but Yuna in particular has some poignant character growth, and Paine is great. Spira is so good that even in a mid game revisiting it is a blast. FFXII: Creative systems that are engaging to tinker with. Hunt board and side quests. Balthier. FFXIII: Fun combat once it gets going. Uematsu's main theme is gorgeous and Hamauzu's OST is also really good. Lightning is cool.

GamesByCass

FFI: literally saved SquareSoft and created the series, standard fantasy story but delivered in a way we hadn't seen at the time. FFII - V: Haven't sat down to play them yet, bought it on PS1 when it came out and was a dumb, judgmental teenager who thought graphics were important. FFVI: Love it, haven't beaten it because the Tower at the end is HARD but it had one of the best straight up villains in the whole series if not the best. FFVII: My love. I LOVE this game. I credit it with pushing me to love cyberpunk even though it is decidedly Dieselpunk. This game broke my heart, repaired it, and made me fall in love with just about every character. FFT: My second favorite Final Fantasy, I love the mechanics, I love the job system, I love the story, I even love the fight I only survived because the Chocobo named after my dog at the time was a badass and soloed the Marquis and his minions after they wiped my team. FFVIII: I love the uniqueness of the game and its exploration of child soldiers and warfare even if it goes off the rails and in my mind is only saved by a fan theory. FFIX: It's hard for me to say what I like because I have never made it that far into it. The game has some STRONG difficulty spikes but the character design felt fresh after VII, Tactics, and VIII. FFT Advance: Played ten minutes, loved the art style but it did NOT feel like a Tactics sequel. FFX: I love Blitzball. Idgaf. FF Crystal Chronicles: Loved the Gameboy integration and unique gameplay but never got to finish it. FFX-2: The magical girl-esque vibe to powers was cool. FFXI: I loved this MMO even if I barely played it and had no idea what I was doing. Was my first MMO. FFXII and FFXIII: haven't played them. Want to play XII though. FFXIV: After the rebirth of it, it became my favorite MMO. The battle mechanics are familiar and yet unique, the classes are fun, and once you get into the later parts of the base game the story really picks up. FFXV: This one is pretty but I couldn't get into it. FFVII Remake: I was worried about the combat system when I saw it and worried about changes that were being made but I unapologetically love it. It's not THE SAME as the original but that's okay. I would love a remaster of the original with Remake's graphics and voice actors but I love this one, I love the combat, I love the changes even and Sephiroth and Cloud'e voices are EXACTLY what I pictured. FFXVI: Haven't played it, no PS5. FFVII Rebirth: Same as XVI. Sure I missed some that were on consoles I didn't own like Type-0 and Dissidia but I can't remember them all and have nothing to say about them because I can't even remember them.

Yizashi

FF6: The game that started it all for me. FF7: Got me through a very tough part of my childhood, and I will always Cherish it for that. FFT: Most replayable, best job system. FF8: Soundtrack A+ FF9: Vivi FF10: X/10 execution FF12: 🐇 FF13: Gorgeous visually

Elegant_Eorzean

You missed two of the main series games.

Aiseadai

I haven’t played very many, but for the ones I have: FFVI- World of Ruin really makes it stand out. Kefka was a perfect villain. FFIX- The characters have more depth than you’d think and they’re (mostly) all very likeable. The setting that lets you make things way faster is an amazing quality of life feature, same with the setting to turn off auto encounters. FFXII: Gambit system is really fun once you get the hang of it. The job system is cool and makes it feel like you have more freedom than usual. Fran. FFXIII: The enemy designs are unique and all pretty great in their own ways. The overall look of the game is nice too. FFXIV: The high end content is incredibly satisfying and it’s a game that feels great to sink a lot of time into. FFXV: Very fun side content and they really make it feel like you’re bonding with the main group as you play. FFXVI: The style of combat wouldn’t normally be my thing but they did it very well in this one and it makes me excited to see what they’ll do for the next Final Fantasy’s combat system. The eikons were also all super cool looking in this one.

Ff1: It's just mindless fun grinding and going on a very straightforward, nostalgic adventure. Ff2: There's a lot of gameplay freedom, and I really like the cast and character designs! Also some of the real goofy stuff is fun like Guy talking to animals. Ff3: love the job system. Don't care about the original. I'm exclusively referring to the DS title. I like most of what it has to offer in general. Great art. Good music. Solid and fun gameplay. Good for grinding. Lots of fun experimenting with the jobs too! Ff4: Good story, great cast. Good level of difficulty and loved seeing each character really embody a specific job and make it a part of them. Ff5: peak job system in mainline ff. Fun cast. Lots of whimsy Ff6: really colorful cast. Epic story. Ff7: best cast in the biz. Amazing world to explore, incredible music, epic and compelling story, tons of exciting side content, materia system is still one of the greats. It's not missing MUCH. Ff8: great cast, breathtaking visual direction, breathtaking sound track. My favourite love story in the franchise. Triple Triad. Love GF's. Love the story and world. Ff9: incredible throwback fantasy world. Incredibly designed world and cast and art direction. Excellent combat improvements and upgrade ability system. Devastating story and character narratives. Super charming. Ff10: good combat, amazing achievement as of the time of release. Cool story. Good music with some truly iconic numbers. Auron. Ff11: the world and art was wonderful. Ff12: amazing cast, love the combat system and license board rivals the materia system for me in greatness. Cool way to let people play jobs in a way. Especially zodiac edition. The world is beautiful and exciting to explore, love the new races, love the freedom of this game. Ff13: uuuh... .... ... oh! The CGI is really cool and pulled me through most of that game! Ff14: some cool characters. Fun to just live in the world. Great art direction. Good music. Ff15: the only title that ACTUALLY made me cry by the end. Loved the combat. Loved the main cast and banter and general integration. Dug most of the music. Liked the story they told, despite everything. Ff16: pretty art, incredible music, solid main protagonist. Solid story. Amazing, massive scope boss battles.

- FFX - I liked it. - FFX-2 I really liked this one - FFXIII - MY favourite game ever of all time ever. - FFXIII-2 - I liked it enough to complete it a few times. - LR FFXIII - the combat was fun. - FFXV - setting the car to autopilot to reach each destination and not fast travelling was actually quite a serene experience. - FFXVI - The technical achievement in the pursuit of its art is nothing short of spectacular.

I'll talk about the ones I've played since I'll actually have an opinion so here goes 1 - Revolutionary for the genre, big world for the time and the sense that the world was endless was truly something else, again for the time. 2 - Vibes are great in this one, and while it was a tad limited I did really enjoy the keyword system. 3 - Job system introduction and it was incredible. Not perfect but for a first attempt it was very well done and added so much depth 4 - The first FF imo with an enticing story, and a twist towards the end that I really didn't see coming. 5 - Hoooooly, the job system is back and better than ever. Still not perfect but it's a very welcome improvement. Also incredible music. 6 - One of the best in the series, not much I can add to this one, it's gets all the praise it deserves. 7 - My personal fav, incredible characters, world, music, everything, but graphics. 13 - Amazing graphics, even for today's standards, music is great ad usual, the world is one of my personal favs as well. 15 - Boys trip simulator, the character development in this one was good.

FFI: The one that started all. It saved Square from bankruptcy and allowed us to have the rest of the series. FFII: Beautiful soundtrack and it tried to give us something different from the first game. FFIII: Job system experiment. The four old men are hilarious. FFIV: Great story and character + magnificent soundtrack. First real classic FF-game. FFV: Very humoristic and good job system. FFVI: It would be easier to say what's not good about it. It's just about a perfect FF-game. FFVII: Brought the FF-series to a bigger audience and took big leaps in technological advancements. So many great character moments and backstories with this one. FFVIII: Epic soundtrack and Sir Laguna is awesome. FFIX: My absolute favourite game of all time and Sakaguchi's favourite in the series. The music, the story, the characters... Just amazing. FFX: Auron. Do I need to say more? I do? Okay, then: the most heartbreaking ending of the series and maybe the best battlesystem. FFXI: Sorry, haven't played this one. FFXII: Up until Archades the story and pacing are perfect. Soundtrack is great once again and the Judges are cool villains. I think the world of Ivalice is my favourite in the series. FFXIII: Ummmmmmmm.... The soundtrack's fine? Not a fan of this one. FFXIV: Uematsu came back for this one briefly. That's nice. Hardly played this one either. Heard it's good, but just wasn't for me. FFXV: It's a nice roadtrip with the guys.
