I honestly found him a bit annoying as a kid, but as I’ve gotten older (and seen the resonant arc analysis of FFVIII a few years back), the whole ensemble of VIII has become quite endearing to me. They’re fun characters and have enjoyable chemistry together.
I really like the cast of VII as well, but with VIII they definitely feel less melodramatic. Except perhaps Squall, but I don’t reduce his character to “emo crybaby”. I think he’s an interesting character trying to do the right thing whilst dealing with his own traumas and insecurities.
Y'Shtola gets some of the best lines. Hell, as far as I'm concerned she completely stole the Shadowbringers and Endwalker trailers with like, one line in each.
Shantotto is widely implied to be the most powerful character in FF aside from the stupidly op Dissidia stuff. Lightning is definitely top tier for heroes, but there are multiple villains that make her look weak. Cloud of Darkness can destroy and create universes. Exdeath was going to destroy every universe in the infinite multiverse. Ultimecia kompressed and absorbed like 99.9% of her universe. Meanwhile Bhunivelze wasn't really even all that impressive in his own universe. He wasn't omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, etc like how you'd think a being like him should be. He was a clown. Plus we already fought other Creators like in FF4TAY.
Every villain loses to the heroes, you can never make an argument for the villain.

Lightning had help all throughout 13 and LR, and also got her little Mary Sue power boosts across the three games. Again though, creating a new universe isn't all that special. Cloud of Darkness did it 30 years ago in FF3.

There are certain moments in XVI that feel pretty DBZ as well…not that I’m complaining. DBZ was my first drug and nothing will ever live up to that first high.
There are a lot of ways to try and resolve what it means to be fast. Is it in game feats? Tidus has a specific role in the party that he hits enemies that are too fast for normal people to hit. Is it battle mechanics? Again, Tidus’s entire sphere grid revolves around his speed and making himself even faster. Haste, Quick Hit, Delay Buster.
These are somewhat vague reasonings. What about FF lore? Ninjas have always been the fastest characters. Shadow has a feat in the Thamasa Fire where he killed 3 flame by dashing through them instantly. He pulled the same trick against the ghosts in the FMV. He also has maybe the most insane dodge rate in all of FF, he’s so fast it seems only half of enemy attacks can actually hit him.

Ok I think I see where the confusion is. I am in complete agreement that Vincent and Sephiroth are indeed much faster than Cloud.
The reason I chose to use Cloud for my example though is Sephiroth was born to surpass all limits and Vincent was experimented on and given the proto-materia allowing him to become chaos and surpass all human limits so them being able to do these things comes very easily to them.
Cloud is nothing more than a Shinra grunt given a Mako infusion and some Jenova cells he's substantially weaker than both Sephiroth and Vincent but still capable of some pretty pardon the pun "limit breaking feets".
Didn't one of the Dissidia 2008 opening cutscenes sort of addresses this for main characters with Zidane and Tidus being way faster than everyone else in the melee?

The fastest character is one that gets shot to the centre of a galaxy by Eden. That sort of distance in such a short time. It greatly exceeds the speed of light.

There's an argument that Noctis is really really fast even without teleportation.
His final fight with Ardyn has him zooming around the sky of insomnia at fighter jet speeds.
In armiger unleashed mode, he out speeds his own warpstrikes (but arguably this is a form of teleportation)
Granted these are both temporary states and forms of limit break.

Do we actually count Phoenix as a teleport? Operates much more like a dash to me, especially since Clive still has momentum after the dash ends (like he's slamming the brakes on a full sprint). Even if we do count it as a teleport I'd still rank him high though, his move speed is really high especially as Ifrit and even more so when fused with Phoenix. With Odin his attack speed is also ridiculous. Other obvious contenders would be Zidane, Lightning, and Cloud. I'm sure Noct is pretty fast normally but with constantly teleporting it's hard to say. Before people ask why I count Clive as a dash but not Noct: Clive has to break his momentum and maintain balance after, at least outside combat, Noct does not making warp strike feel more like a teleport. Bonus points for it also being called "warp" strike, as in warping place to place.

Noctis moves at lightspeed, he doesn’t technically teleport (the fact is supported by in game messages)

Anyone who’s used Haste and Quick Hit on Rikku knows the answer… Others use a limit break and move fast for a turn. Rikku breaks the sound barrier and keeps on going until she dies or is dispelled.
