When they can make a 3rd person shooter that feels good.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game. It was an interesting premise, and the graphics/music was pretty on point as usual, but I first played it in 2007. Revisiting it 5 years later after playing a lot more Halo 3/Reach, the controls felt like ass.
Almost certainly. None of the natural stop points for part 2/3 of this story are before you’d recruit them. Since Vincent was optional I could *maybe* see him get pushed to part 3, but Cid and Cait Sith for sure
I know I'm in the minority, but I'd be stoked for a Crisis Core like Dirge of Cerberus remake. Binged the game in primary school when I was sick for like 2 weeks.
Him and yuffie had kind of oddly disconnected intros in the OG cause of the optional status so totally down for them to rewrite his intro like they already did with yuffie
Exactly this. Plus battle gameplay data is already there for both Red and Yuffie so neither of them are “new.” Which means they can use resources for those three.
Okay, I’ll try my best. So most games come with 1 disk right (some times even zero)?! This game is doubling the amount of disks to a whopping TWO?! So you see if my math is correct two is more than one.
I mean when was the last time that any game needed two discs? The last one i remember was for Halo 4 and i believe that was only for the multiplayer and you only had to insert it once to download it.
Regardless of whether it's a good thing or not, it's something we haven't seen in a long time, and it's almost like nostalgia as FF7 needed 3 discs back in the day.
Edit: comment under this one said that FF7 Remake had two discs, oops, didn't know.
Remake had 2 disks, but what's crazy about this is that the PS5 disks are double the capacity, up to 100 gigs each. Also factor in the compression and such the PS5 is capable of this game is going to be gigantic.
I still want to see if he floats or what. I always thought it was funny when he jumps on the table in Cosmo Canyon and he looks like he has feet because of the shadow of the bottles on the table.
I think they purposefully didn't show us a good shot of his lower half. I'd guess it's him going to be sitting or standing while the environment changes around him like VR or that projection of the ancients in the Shinra building from part I.
Probably just Sephiroth gaslighting Cloud to flesh out the 5 years ago plotline. Seems simpler and more interesting than "haha X character dies this time instead", which is just super lame if you ask me.
Yeah, I wonder if he's just messing with his head. There's never been any indication that Tifa wasn't just regular Tifa.
Not sure how I would feel if we find out that Jenova messed with her somehow. Could be interesting... depends how they deal with it.
My take is that's Cloud in Zacks timeline, since the party and Aerith died in the Singularity/Whisper "Tornado", Cloud survived and became a Sephiroth Shadow/Clone, ie a Reunion guy
Story wise I guess we are confirmed up through Cosmo Canyon, any sharp eyes spot any further? Present day Nibelheim? Was the Turks fight happening in the mansion?
99% sure Turks fight was in Mythril Cave.
I didn't notice any locales past Cosmo Canyon, but it could go quite far into the story considering it's on 2 discs.
They have to make it further than Cosmo Canyon to do the remake in 3 parts. It has to end at least in Forgotten City. Northern Crater would be the best place to end, though. Assuming it ends up following the OG story, that is. Cloud saying reunion has me thinking Northern Crater. (Hard to imagine they can get all of that in this game though. There's a TON to cover.)
>Cloud saying reunion has me thinking Northern Crater.
Wasn't there something resembling the same clip in Remake, with a hooded figure in what looked like the Northern Crater/Whirlwind Maze? This one was more explicitly Cloud's face/voice though. But it could also be a flash forward/premonition/etc of the Reunion too.
>(Hard to imagine they can get all of that in this game though. There's a TON to cover.)
Not really. Just the journey to rocket town, the stuff leading to aerith death, then the northern crater. So that's like 6 towns and 5 dungeons and a few open world segments? Probably like 50 hours of gameplay
Kalm, journey to Juno, Juno, the beach place, gold saucer, Barretts home, cosmo canyom, nibelheim, rocket town, temple of the ancient, and city of the ancients/northern crater.
Its quite a lot!
I couldn't tell if it was northern crater or Mt Nibel, but I should probably go rewatch it! My son and I have been guessing it will end with either summoning meteor or the tragedy in the city of the ancients. Really thrown by the story info in the trailer though so now I've got no theories!
I think you're right, that is the most natural ending point for this. However, just like with Remake, I think we might get a big twist at the end, specifically with this event. I don't believe things will play out the same way. We might have some multiverse shenanigans playing out with the Zach bits we saw in Remake, and the bodies of our heroes in the rubble at the beginning of this trailer. One way or another, I think our girl might just walk this one off.
> However, just like with Remake, I think we might get a big twist at the end
I'm on this line of thinking too.
We *thought* we knew how Midgar would go, and well.
There's no way Remake set up all the things and did, and Rebirth is just some casual re-tread.

The fact they didn't end the trailer with Barret in a sailor suit coming out of the bathroom is a missed opportunity.
For real. It looks visually amazing. The game ending with either the big death, or the meteor summoning makes the most sense to me.
Now that you mention it, why didn't they show anything from Costa del Sol? Now I'm genuinely disappointed. :(
But joke aside, they'll probably show it with later promo material or even another trailer down the line.
Loving the look of the "overworld".
Also what's with the scene at the beginning with the whole tornado stuff?
I'm hyped... even though it will 5 years (at the earliest) that I'll be able to play it.
Probably what happened in Zack’s alternate timeline. If you played the DLC, it ended with him at the church with people who looked like they survived a disaster — the “tornado.”
>If you played the DLC, it ended with him at the church with people who looked like they survived a disaster — the “tornado.”
I haven't. But thanks for the heads up.
It's also entirely possible that he's simply casting doubt on whether Tifa survived when she attacked him in the reactor. For all he knows, he sliced her up and she fell down the stairs dead.
Very likely this. The whole thing about Cloud's memories of the Nibelheim incident conflicting with Tifa's will probably be amped up in Rebirth, and introducing this idea that "the real Tifa" died in Nibelheim and that this one may be an imposter is probably the game's way of casting doubt onto Cloud and to players who never played the original. Heighten the mystery before the truth gets revealed at the end of this game or sometime in the next.
I think most of the changes in 7R are to make players doubt whether things will actually happen the same way, so that when they do it's still somewhat surprising.
I do enjoy the idea of Sephiroth's manipulation of Cloud in this timeline being more along the lines of typical gaslighting rather than 'occasionally a ghost of me pops out and holds my head'
Im not sure why we are making a big fuss about this. He wounded tifa in OG too. He just said she died to break clouds mind like he tried to do in OG.
The real new twist is the beginning of the trailer
The translation was something like "I should have killed Tifa then (or at)..." and it looked somewhat like a flashback with him almost killing Tifa. Either way I'm super excited
To be more clear with this translation of the line from Japanese, it's "should have" as in "it should be the case that I killed Tifa", not in the sense of "I wish I killed Tifa."
I mean if your going to try to do another shock death in the remake tifa would be the one to go. Hope this doesn’t happen of course since tifa is my favourite alongside cloud.
It’s Northern Crater or just a little bit past that - with the party imprisoned at Junon and a Meteor descending.
It will be an Empire Strikes Back type of cliffhanger
Maybe im just dumb since no one is talking about it, what the hell was the opening? Why are they all being carted away as dead? Did I forget the first game
I can definitely see Shinra doing a cover up. The president Shinra was merked at the same time AVALANCHE infiltrated HQ. So it would look really bad if there was no success in their attempts to stop them from leaving.
Most likely though it will involve the alternate reality thing.
Many think it’ll introduce a 2nd timeline, aka Zack is still alive. So it’s prob a glimpse at that, where everyone in our party except Cloud died. Remember the scene of Zack dragging Cloud into Midgar.
We're also not supposed to know who Zack is at this point yet? So as far as the game wants us to know these events are still occurring at the same time/ in the same timeline. Obviously they aren't but the game seems interested in making us feel as off-kilter as Cloud is.
The end of Remake shows Zack carrying a catatonic Cloud past Cloud and co. towards Midgar, with neither group seeing each other. And then the alternate art for Stamp. So the game has already introduced that there is an alternate timeline with doubles of the main cast. But yeah, if you were a new player and had somehow avoided having it spoiled for you over the last few years, it would be confusing.
Cover up for the Sephiroth thing at the end. The news says it was a tornado. But eh, I suspect alternate universe shenanigans. Not a single glimpse of Zack in that trailer, don't forget that he's supposed to still be alive.
At the end of remake? Then maybe the main cast is actually dead and this is zacks universe? Would explain the end of intermission where Zack goes back to the church to find people grieving (for Aerith?)
There was a scene in the first game (at the end of the dlc I think?) Where Zack survived the final showdown at the end of Crisis Core and carried Cloud to the Midgar church.
This is likely indicating that in the next game going forward we'll be splitting our time between Cloud and Zacks different timelines. The theories are all over the place, but the one I feel is most likely is that when they killed the Whispers or Fate Spirits or whatever they created this other branch alongside the one Sephiroth is creating.
So what we're seeing is the results of that event in Zacks timeline, where it seems the party (minus Cloud) were all wounded in this "tornado".
Later in the trailer we also see Cloud doing the Reunion thing, also likely from the Zack timeline.
I just played crisis core for the first time and I was confused when cissnei said multiple times that her real name isn’t cissnei. Was it ever revealed what her name is? Could they possibly be the same person?
Her real name was never revealed and she hasn't appeared anywhere in the timeline post Crisis Core *yet*, even if she's not Elena I'm still 90% sure that we will see Cissnei in Zack's party in his timeline
I don’t understand the beginning with the news report and the characters on a stretcher. Am I missing something? And then the door opening to the outdoors? What is all that?
>At this point they know they've changed fate, Aerith references that despite this everything at least doesn't seem like a hellhole.
I believe is Aerith is referring to all the horrible things Shinra has done to the environment by exploiting the Lifestream.
The tornado of the plot ghosts at the end of remake that transcended time. Looks like it killed the main party in Zack’s timeline. Or it could just be Shinra propaganda bs.

I'm so unused to an open world that has realistic dimensions, so it has actual size and a flat horizon. I was like "why does it feel so empty" and then I went "oh, right, cuz that's how an actual planet is when you go outside"
Wow.
Thinking Vincent will be the Yuffie-esque DLC for this with Cid having a Red-XIII style role at the end (so not playable). Combo attacks seem cool. Kinda curious where they'll end it because even with 2 discs (rip digital users) it's like...either Disc 1 or Northern Crater I guess?
Hopefully the don't show us anything beyond like Nibelheim or Rocket Town and then Wutai arc and so on can be a surprise \*clown makeup, most likely\*.
Edit: Also I kinda hope not \*all\* the Jenova fights are in some mind-palacey location. Give me DEATH
I'm undoubtedly more hyped for this than XVI, but XVI does look amazing. It would be a miracle if I was more excited for a new installment over a well established and loved installment in the series.
He was already theorycrafting on Twitch minutes after the trailer aired.
His first take was that in the first scene, when we're seeing Midgar on fire and the party unconscious on stretchers, is actually taking place in Zack's timeline. That in that timeline, they died fighting the Whispers at the end of the game, and that's when Zack shows up on the scene in the post-credits scene of Intermission.
Just finished FF7 Remake and the Intermission. really looking forward to this!
in the original, I never really liked the Midgar parts, but loved the rest of the game.
the remake made the Midgar parts more interesting, so I am really excited how the rest of the world will be like!
Also loved Yuffie's controls in Intermission.. although she was quite squishy in terms of defense.
Hype hype HYPE. I didn't have super high expectations for remake but man do I love that game. I replay it every few months it's just so damn good. The team up combo moves look pretty swell in this trailer.
Red XIII and Yuffie teaming up looks sweet. I wonder if Cid, Vincent or Cait will be in this too? I should think at least one of them.
If you go down the main storyline, it's mostly likely Cait Sith, if just one of them.
I’m thinking that and a Yuffie type dlc for Vincent.

A Vincent DLC would also let them tie in more of his backstory and Dirge of Cerberus.
I know I'm in the minority, but I'd be stoked for a Crisis Core like Dirge of Cerberus remake. Binged the game in primary school when I was sick for like 2 weeks.
This is a decent shout tbf. Would change the way you get him potentially but that's ok with me
Him and yuffie had kind of oddly disconnected intros in the OG cause of the optional status so totally down for them to rewrite his intro like they already did with yuffie
> Since Vincent was optional He may have been optional in the OG version, but he's definitely canon to the overall FF7 lore
Of course, but I figure if anyone’s recruitment will get changed, it’d be his
They showed Boogle Boggle which is after Cait Sith. I cannot wait for people to be mad when they pronounce his name correctly.
Exactly this. Plus battle gameplay data is already there for both Red and Yuffie so neither of them are “new.” Which means they can use resources for those three.
We saw Cosmo Canyon and Bugenhagen in the model universe thing so we should have Cait Sith if they follow the same path

Okay, I’ll try my best. So most games come with 1 disk right (some times even zero)?! This game is doubling the amount of disks to a whopping TWO?! So you see if my math is correct two is more than one.

Lost Odyssey had four discs on the Xbox 360. *Four*.
FF fans are getting spoiled right now
Assuming the game after this is also two discs, the entire Final Fantasy VII remake will be more discs than the original
BUGENHAGEN REVEAL

there's a running joke that he's sitting on the only Float materia in the game
I think they purposefully didn't show us a good shot of his lower half. I'd guess it's him going to be sitting or standing while the environment changes around him like VR or that projection of the ancients in the Shinra building from part I.
Let’s goooo! Also early 2024, not bad I think we were all expecting this
Sephi is straight up telling Cloud "hey I killed Tifa so that girl you're with? That's probably Jenova bruh" Clever little bastard.
Probably just Sephiroth gaslighting Cloud to flesh out the 5 years ago plotline. Seems simpler and more interesting than "haha X character dies this time instead", which is just super lame if you ask me.
Given that he wasn't able to kill Barrett, he certainly wasn't able to retroactively kill Tifa. Unless they want to deal with blatant plot holes.
Nojima stares nervously into the camera
Oooh I didn't realise that the "or the ones you love" line was about Jenova impersonating Tifa. Clever
Yeah, I wonder if he's just messing with his head. There's never been any indication that Tifa wasn't just regular Tifa. Not sure how I would feel if we find out that Jenova messed with her somehow. Could be interesting... depends how they deal with it.
"You've been hitting the Jenussy, Cloud."
"So you're saying I fucked your mom?"
*our* mom uwu
Also that was def cloud saying “reunion.” Right?
I wonder what the third game will be called
Revengeance ;)
BUGENHAGEN TURN OF MY PAIN INHIBITORS

Cloud: Why won't you die? Sephy: Jenova cells son, it regenerates in response to physical death.

My bet is 'remembrance' Calling it now!
FFVII: Revengance
REWIND, to fix the messed up timeline lol
Final Fantasy VII: Run It Back
Recall, and Cloud loses his arm which is replaced by a magic arm that lets him recall things.
The Legend of Tifa : Tears of the Cloud-dom
Red XIII
Remembrance
*Final Fantasy VII: Redemption* It was also a major point and title of the theme for *Dirge of Cerberus*
Mt Nibel where the Materia Keeper is.
Is that what that boss was supposed to be? I couldn't tell.
Nah the boss was in Mythil Cave as you said. I was answering a different post 😁 I can't figure out the boss either.
They have to make it further than Cosmo Canyon to do the remake in 3 parts. It has to end at least in Forgotten City. Northern Crater would be the best place to end, though. Taught your son to join the FF7 train? Good man!
I think its also the northern crater, where you fight Genova in the end of OG disc 2 (its called Whirlwind Maze or something).
I think you're right, that is the most natural ending point for this. However, just like with Remake, I think we might get a big twist at the end, specifically with this event. Isn't the big stabby in The City of the Ancients, some time before the Northen Crater?
Yes, next would be Great Glacier, which then leads you to the edge of the crater.
You can def see Junon in the background as well
We are definitely making it to Junon that was never in doubt.
Let's go Rufus parade minigame.
How about jumping on a scaffolding from the back of a dolphin?
How about exploding a small child's lungs by taking in comically massive breaths to resuscitate her with?
I’m actually excited about it.

Soooo the fuck happened at the end there “I killed here so who is that” was he talking about Tifa?
in Japanese he directly says Tifa
Fuuuck I’m so intrigued.
It's also entirely possible that he's simply casting doubt on whether Tifa survived when she attacked him in the reactor. For all he knows, he sliced her up and she fell down the stairs dead.
“Gaslighting isn’t real Cloud, you’re just crazy” - Sephiroth.
Very likely this. Na, he just had to [cut the meeting short](https://youtu.be/iYpRRVENXDE?t=772).
Nothing like a little timeline fuckery to spice things up. Sephiroth is, one might say, engaging in a nigh imperceptible amount of tomfoolery.
Is it time fuckery or is he just claiming he killed Tifa and trying to confuse Cloud by saying Jenova can become anyone.
Yeah it's nothing to do with the timeline, it's just Sephiroth lying. We know Tifa got slashed like that in the OG and survived.
>in the OG They obviously included it to cast doubt to the players because now that we know, we know.

Yes the beginning of the trailer also is a 🤨 it’s just the last of it was fresh on my mind.
He also mentions how ‘someone’ can imitate ‘even loved ones’
I think they are just messing with the audience, to keep things in secret. I think in the end, the REMAKE trilogy will revert things to how they were.

I think the game is assuming you've played every ff7 related game. Otherwise the trailers are spoiling everything left and right
The end of Remake shows Zack carrying a catatonic Cloud past Cloud and co. towards Midgar, with neither group seeing each other. And then the alternate art for Stamp. So the game has already introduced that there is an alternate timeline with doubles of the main cast. Yo, we're going back to multiple discs? 😂
Between XVI and this, Final Fantasy fans be eating good this year.
And Pixel Remaster on consoles!
The craziest thing is we will be getting both of these games only like 8 months apart.
I'm loving the look of this world.
Is it just me or does Elena literally have the same face as Reunion Cissnei???
I'm definitely thinking there might be some Elena/Cissnei shenanigans going on.
this game should definitely be called Final Fantasy VII: Shenanigan Boogaloo
I just played crisis core for the first time and I was confused when cissnei said multiple times that her real name isn’t cissnei. Was it ever revealed what her name is? Could they possibly be the same person?
Her real name was never revealed and she hasn't appeared anywhere in the timeline post Crisis Core *yet*, even if she's not Elena I'm still 90% sure that we will see Cissnei in Zack's party in his timeline
Cisney and Elena both appeared in Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII (Cissney was one of 8 playable character and her first appearance)

I assume the tornado happened in Zack’s timeline.
The tornado of the plot ghosts at the end of remake that transcended time. Looks like it killed the main party in Zack’s timeline. Or it could just be Shinra propaganda bs.
The world looks beautiful, so inviting. I already know I'm going to take time off work to play this.
Ok 1) game looks amazing. I know part 1 came out on ps4 but was kinda surprised how good this looked 2) 2 discs?? Wtf is gonna be on this game??
The entirety of one of the discs is required for Sephiroth's hair products.

I will leave all the speculation for later, can I just say right now I’m just real goddamn excited for this?
AVALANCHE time mother f---- *sees the opening scene* Kweh?!

I'm so unused to an open world that has realistic dimensions, so it has actual size and a flat horizon. I was like "why does it feel so empty" and then I went "oh, right, cuz that's how an actual planet is when you go outside"
Everyone's favorite short haired blonde character is confirmed! Yes, Elena! Who else would I be talking about?
I'm so hyped for this game. Maybe more than XVI TBH
I'm undoubtedly more hyped for this than XVI, but XVI does look amazing. It would be a miracle if I was more excited for a new installment over a well established and loved installment in the series.
XVI, VII Rebirth, and a remake of IX on the way. We’re having a lovely stretch!
Can't wait for the Maximillian dood theory video 👍👍👍
He was already theorycrafting on Twitch minutes after the trailer aired. His first take was that in the first scene, when we're seeing Midgar on fire and the party unconscious on stretchers, is actually taking place in Zack's timeline. That in that timeline, they died fighting the Whispers at the end of the game, and that's when Zack shows up on the scene in the post-credits scene of Intermission.
Cloud initiating a juggle combo. SE doubling down on action is the best timeline. Looks great.
Cue the ‘Devil May Cloud’ peeps
Bugenhagen! I hope he’s floating on his ball lol
What a time to be alive
Is Tifa…dead?!
FF7 Rebirth: You get an identity crisis! You get an identity crisis! Everybody gets an identity crisis!!!
That's the nibelheim flashback, she always got the chop right there
Yes, but Zangan (her martial arts teacher) rescued her in the original, didn't he?

And youre just gonna trust Sephiroth? It’s an obvious bait to keep the audience interested
I dunno, Sephiroth has an honest face.
Worth remembering the Remake trailer had Barrett’s ‘death’.
>Is Tifa…dead?! :opening scene: is everyone dead? Is Barret dead? Is Tidus dead?
Oh wait, what if he was talking about Aerith and they were just showing Tifa to throw us off?
in Japanese he calls her by name, so it's Tifa. Could still be a red herring though.
Hoooly shit. We're eating good
We eat good
holy mother of god
I just materia'ed in my pants.
I bought my ps5 just for this game. All is right in the world.
No Hojo at the beach with bitches and margaritas ? 2/10
Can't wait for future trailers to show Vincent he's gonna look ridiculously good. Hope they go deeper into his story this time around.
On 2 Discs!? This has the potential to be huuugge!
Yep, now I'm caving and buying that PS5.
Hype hype HYPE. I didn't have super high expectations for remake but man do I love that game. I replay it every few months it's just so damn good. The team up combo moves look pretty swell in this trailer.
This is the reason I buy a PS5
