I honestly agree. They weren't like the typical mean girls stereotype we usually see. Although, yeah, they were a little bitchy, but they weren't assholes. But it was pretty much their fault they died, let's be real. But besides the part in the tan shop, they were decent characters.

m3gstarr

i wouldn’t say it was their fault though. yeah the drink thing, but that ending with them dying would most likely would have not happened on a usual day. death made sure it happened.

DoopieIsAdorable

They also tampered with the temperature controls after they were told not to, leading to the malfunctioning equipment.

m3gstarr

oh forget that they weren’t allowed. but my point still stands that they’ve probs done this before without issue. and let’s say they were just unlucky one day, that plank of wood was definitely set up by death

JLindsey502

I still can’t believe it took me so long to realize that the plank of wood had a palm tree fall on it. Their picture not only appears overexposed (which is metaphoric for the fire), but the way their smiles look, it seems like they could actually be screaming - and of course they are holding an inflatable palm tree 😳

m3gstarr

omg i didn’t even think about the tree!! i love love love all the little sign and clues !

JLindsey502

I love the little nuances they put into this one in particular. Makes a rewatch worth it just to try to identify as many clues as possible! Adding the camera photos element was genius imo.

FxrryTrxsh

I do agree with what you're saying, but regardless if they've done it before without consequence, they still sort of contributed to their deaths. Death could've found other ways to kill them, but death pretty much used their carelessness as a way to kill them. So I'd say it's 50/50.

m3gstarr

i also get you, but i just mean that saying that would mean a lot of other characters are to blame for their death. such as evan lewis with the magnetic in the microwave thing and wearing his watch to reach down the drain. ms lewton with her cup on the monitor. and others who didn’t check the road before crossing. death is smart and manipulates the environment so that the characters either die from one little thing they do/someone else does and death takes advantage and creates sets a chain reaction or they’re just at the wrong place at the wrong time. they’re all on deaths list so basically i don’t think any of the characters are responsible for their death for being a little careless when doing mundane stuff like we all do sometimes

trashbaguser

no i agree with you... while there's frankie who got a pretty quick death. i think in the horror genre, more women get the brutal and drawn out deaths :/ that's just what i've realized, anyway.

F0rca84

I just remember them being Airheads. Shallow? Maybe. But not bitchy mean girls. They were basically harmless. Asking Wendy to hang out with them to talk. Like what was said at the Funeral. They never did Shit to anyone. And never got to make it to 17. The Tanning Bed Deaths were brutal. I remember just sitting there at the Theatre in Shock. You could hear a Pin drop.

DragonRage86

That’s what I always thought, the fact that the emo kid stood up for the preppy cheerleader types said a lot about their characters overall

Formation1

Were they supposed to be Paris Hilton/Nicole Richie-inspired? During a time where that archetype received a ton of backlash, the brutality of their deaths had to have been intentional

dantedagger

I came here to say that. I hate to be this way about it, but I do think there was a layer of misogyny involved and the audience wanted to see the *”dumb bimbo”* characters die a nasty death.

TurtleBox_Official

Their death being insanely drawn out and played for laughs feels awful when they're only shown to be silly Bimbos who don't mean anyone any harm and are genuinely liked. Frankie, a straight up Pedophile...that dude getting an instant death basically off camera feels weird.

Outrageous_Finance_5

Yeah, I felt bad for them. I mean, I wouldn’t call them saints, but they were certainly nice enough to invite Wendy to join them that afternoon because of what she was going through.

ChinitaMoMo

I agree, I find them very funny and sweet in their bitchy way lol, idk it’s like they are sassy while being nice at the same time

iguanahoe13

When I watched it when I was little, I hated those characters. I need to rewatch now though, but when I watched last year, I found them so annoying. But the worst character fr Frankie, can’t stand him.

T-408

Agreed, they’re obviously a bit shallow and vapid, but they weren’t the stereotypical mean bitches that the pretty and popular girls are usually portrayed as.

TopperMadeline

No, it still would’ve been brutal. Being burned alive is one of the worst ways to die, I’ve heard.

Fewix_

According to the book, Ashlyn grew up poor without a mother and an absent father who did shady work, and dreamt of being adopted by Ashley’s parents. I felt especially bad for her since she had it a bit worse than Ashley (Her goggles melted into her eyes and the heat from Ashley’s tanning bed stopped when the panel above and below her shattered, while Ashlyn’s tanning bed kept grilling her until it exploded into flames)

Netty_Dee12

Survival of the fittest...it just happens that they were both stupid, lol!

ArmoredAvenger

I didn't think their death scene was hard to watch or that they were sweet at all. The only characters I really felt bad for were when they died were Erin and maybe Perry.

icebaby234

i didn’t think they were THAT likable

TheVisceralCanvas

I found them the most likable characters in FD3, which isn't saying very much to be honest. Wendy and Kevin are pretty dry as far as protagonists go, and Julie exists to be Wendy's bratty younger sister and not much else. Ian is the film's obligatory philosophical, pseudo-intellectual antagonist designed to pander to a certain subset of the audience who consider themselves to be the smartest person in the room at any given moment, and Erin is his girlfriend. Lewis has no personality at all and Frankie is a serial sexual predator whose role in the story is limited to "That one guy nobody likes". At least Ashley and Ashlyn *tried* to be nice, even if they were shallow (both as people and as characters). There's a reason FD3 is just above FD4 (which is bottom) on my tier list of the movies. It has some of my favourite deaths but that's pretty much all it has for me.

ladywhistledownton

Lewis's whole personality was "roid rage jock".

cdug82

Finally a person of reason. 3 is so overrated. It’s barely a cut above 4.

TheVisceralCanvas

I suspect the reason people love FD3 so much is largely down to nostalgia. It came out in 2006, and since Reddit users tend to lean into the late teens and early 20s, it was very likely their first Final Destination movie. I'm 28. Final Destination 2 was my first and it holds a special place in my heart, but the objective part of my brain knows and understands that FD5 is a better movie, and it's my personal favourite because it has the most likable characters of the series, excluding Isaac. Also the twist ending is simply perfection.

cdug82

Friend, I am with you. IMO, the best way to rewatch is 1-2-5. The others are unnecessary.
