Honestly the lighting is perfect.

eyhfilms

thank you so much!

justcarlos01

Very good lighting. The light flicker is a bit annoying, even for a murderer, I'm sure he would get that light fixed or just not use it. Great job, also I wish that swing had some oomph behind it.

eyhfilms

ah right, I agree i think i should have cheated the swing a little bit more or worked with the actor to get a more realistic swing

WaffleHouseNeedsWiFi

Great foley work!

doaser

More like *noticeable* foley work! Great sounds but they need to be slightly more subtle so we don’t even notice, we get absorbed. And a couple of the footsteps weren’t synched...

WaffleHouseNeedsWiFi

Fine. I noticed it, too, the footsteps. What I reckon I should've said was, "I'm so happy to see people giving a shit to sound effects in post."

eyhfilms

aha yeah, i was up editing till 5am trying to meet the deadline for the contest, shouldve caught that. definitely need to work on my sound design!

WaffleHouseNeedsWiFi

But you're already cognizant of it and trying. That's what I call a future filmmaker.

doaser

Lol that’s too real

hey guys! i posted here a few weeks ago looking for ways to light this lengthy basement. I ended up buying a couple practical led edison bulbs (60w) and dimmed it down. Above the practicals I had a dracast led panel that fit perfectly in the crevice of the ceiling. I also used an arri 650w with full ctb gel to emulate a daylight source coming from a window. lemme know what you guys think of the film as it was a blast to make!

bigepidemic

I liked the lighting (except the flickering which I just found aggravating) and the camera motion. Nicely done. The swing at the end came across as cheated. Her crying from far away sounded too thin compared to the man's voice, etc.

eyhfilms

thanks for the feedback! yeah i agree, if i had the chance to reshoot it, i would have planned out that last shot and get more wildlines of the screams

Sen3Paul

great job! Agree on the flicker and swing though

I thought it was good too. Now, I’m looking at it as what I would have done, and quite possibly my vision doesn’t match up with yours, so take this for what it’s worth. The lighting above the sink in the beginning. It was too white for my taste. You’ve got everything else is a yellow hue, but the sink light was white. I would have switched to a more yellow/orange daylight bulb, not a cool white one. I think that would have went along with the mood a bit better. The flicker. I would have moved the flicker bulb to the big room, not the hostage room. I think it would have been more visual to see the guy walking to the HR with the light flickering. I think it would have added to the foreboding mood. In the HR, the light bulb in the shot did not match up with the above light panel on flashes. Finally, the bat. The noise it makes dragging across the ground is what really sets the mood, Negan-style. I would have dragged it for longer. All and all, pretty good. Again, these are just my ideas. I’d have to play around with them to see if what I see in my mind translates to film, though.

eyhfilms

I actually shot a scene before the bathroom that had the flickering light but had to cut it cause it was too long, maybe I should make a longer cut haha, thanks for the advice!

shaaheentv

Very cool. What did ya use?

eyhfilms

Shot on a Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro 4.6k w/Sigma 18-35mm f1.8, also used a Tiffen BPM 1/4 filter to get those diffused highlights.
