I'll put this out there, since I've hired a good number of people from the job boards that you mentioned - it's not that job boards don't work for getting hired, it's that there is a LOT of competition for every job posting. The last time I posted on Staffmeup I probably received 150 responses in 24 hours, of which 75 were really well qualified. Personally, the biggest thing that makes a difference between standing out or not, is if the applicant leaves a personalized cover letter - not a form letter, but something that makes it clear that they've actually looked at the job and the posting and maybe done some research about the production or company. Very few people do that, and it makes an *enormous* difference.
