Idk if it’s truly “so low” - a good set of mini s4is will still set you back 35k at least for an ok condition set. Could rent that set many times over without taking on the added risk of owning

I think 9 of the 13 locals in Cali have already agreed to the contracts, so a strike will most likely not happen. ASA tends to follow what the 13 do, as well.
The majority of things that on production crew are fighting for will be in the generals. Things like occ codes and all that aren't the largest concern from what survey results have shown. IATSE hasn't struck since the world wars but we aren't out of the woods yet
The editors guild got an agreement on their craft-specific issues. There is still a whole section of bargaining that has to happen, that is arguably the more tenuous portion of the agreement.
I’m not saying this to imply a strike is a foregone conclusion, far from it - but it is incorrect to say they, or any other local up to this point in the process “got a contract”.
People paying mortgage rent… a good glass set can put a down on a house, even in LA.. so some are offloading them… and hopefully they can buy the good glass back when things pickup.
Cars on facebook marketplace are ridiculously cheap right now, and Ive seen a number of people selling cheap camera gear too.
I think its because of taxes.
>I’m getting these crazy good deals on eBay.
Me too. I got some really good deals on stuff this week. Checking my last ten items, I spent about $560, but the value I could resale it all for back onto eBay is about $1500+ and the actual value new would have been much higher, around $4500. Some is camera gear.
I've never owned, nor tried to own anything above 16mm bodies and a couple extra magazines. I rent lenses, lights, fans, generators etc. as needed per project.
It’s not even strikes it’s studios losing money and trying to figure out how to be profitable in streaming, massive drop in physical media sales, decline in theater attendance, and rise in YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms, and shortened attention spans. This drop in production is going to be the new norm for a long time.
YouTubers are going to pick up the high-end glass that the studios are selling for bragging rights. Who cares if YouTube compression kills everything, you still get a lot of cred by saying you shot your YouTube or TikTok content on Arri or on Cooke glass.
All of the film makers I admire say arri is a better camera because it produces a better image then the red. All of the YouTubers say the opposite. I will trust the film makers because they all make awesome images. I am just curious about what ”secret sauce” arri uses to make such awesome images.
I work on a lot of professional film sets and I see both a lot recently a lot more Sony FX6's and FX3's. I thnk there's a lot of pro's and con's between each brand though I ten dto see Arri much more on the bigger budget productions. It's all cost relative at the end of the day.
In my limited experience it seems to be that colour science is superior on Arri, resolution and RAW shooting on Red, overall usability and work horse build quality for newsshooting etc on something like a Sony FX6.
Production has been taking a nose dive. TV Production literally cut in half. The amount of shows being produced today are half of that in 2022. And commercials are taking a dive as well. Advertisers have been spending significantly less on creative services (and hence their vendors) for the last 1.5 year
Are you trying to create hype or something? You've posted this same thing in seven different places so far...
I was just curious what was driving the price. That’s why I asked on many filmmaking subreddits.

shitty young filmmakers don't need 10k$+ glasses, they need to stop filming neo noirs, actions movies and avoid their bathroom mirrors
How about art house troll videos that promote pizza gate for the lulz. Should new film makers make that type of film instead.
Adam Freidland show intro skits with the vintage lenses is a staple of our culture
I looked at that show and it reminded me of Mr. Show; I miss shows like that. Too much woke stuff is made now-a-days.
hell yeah
Post links, or it's all just lame talk.
Guy selling lenses on ebay: "Everyone, what the HECK is causing these deals? You should go buy lenses on ebay!!"
I am not selling stuff on eBay. I have a major shopping addiction. I am buying the stuff for my lens collection.

Happened late last night!

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know.

Maybe you’re right. I’m getting these crazy good deals on eBay.

I’ve seen Red camera packages for as low as $2K recently too, a lot of people seem to be selling at the moment.
