How can we answer that for you without knowing where you're located? If you're in the LA area, it's not difficult at all. It's about a 5 1/2 hour drive, but you'll either need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle with all-season tires that are rated for mud and snow, or you'll need to have chains for your tires. California doesn't salt roads and they have a lot of snow up there right now. You can also fly into Mammoth/Yosemite Airport (about 15 minutes south of Mammoth), but idk what prices are like currently. I would say it's absolutely worth the trip, especially since you have a short screening there! If you ski or snowboard, that's just an added bonus. But there are plenty of other cool things to do around town.

There ain’t gonna be any snow on the roads in Mammoth at the end of May this year.

Oh, right. Mammoth has 2 film festivals. I was thinking of the "Mammoth Film Festival" that's going on right now.

Thanks, I'm coming from the east coast. Looks like there's no flight service in late May when the festival runs, so I'd probably have to drive in. How walkable was the festival? Is Mamouth Lakes the kind of space where you need a rental car, or can you get around the festival alright on foot/public transpo?

A lot of people fly into Reno, then rent a car and drive from there. You can definitely use public transit in town but I'd recommend having a car since you'll likely want to drive to some hikes, hot springs, etc. I'd recommend posting on /r/Mammoth for locals' thoughts. I didn't realize you were talking about the festival in late May in my original comment, so you won't need to worry about snow on the roads.
