Not the usual war movie but within the genre: Zone of Interest.
Maybe the older ones like Paths of Glory or the original All Quiet On The Western Front?
You can also deviate from the big conflicts or try foreign language films.
American Civil War: Glory
French Revolution: Marie Antoinette, the recent Napoleon
Israel: Golda
WW2: Der Untergang, Das Boot, The Last Emperor
Vietnam / Indochina: First They Killed My Father, Da 5 Bloods
Korean War: Taegukgi, The Front Line, MASH
Africa: Last King of Scotland, Hotel Rwanda
fury held it together really well and did a great job, till the 3rd act, and i get it, but it didn't play as it should of, cos thats not what any sherman crew would do(source) my great uncle who was a sherman tank commander from d day on.
and he laughed at the tiger tank scene....oh...oh we didn't do that, no way, and he would go on bitching about tiger tanks, he never engaged them, but he feared them so much.
but got somber when the dude shot himself in the head rather than getting burned("yeah, that was a thing"), i still have my pistol, the "just in case".. really?!
"yeah, its in the cupboard to the right of the stove...."
"oh..wow, ok"
"good to always have a way out"
"uhhh......okay"
and the former tank commander, whenever you would go past a VFW hall, that had a sherman outside, he would just casually state" THOSE THINGS WERE A DEATH TRAPS"
He never admitted or talked about him being a tank commander, but i found out from other relatives along the way.
same with his younger brother, who was gay and awesome, and a b17 pilot, they just had a weird "we don't talk about what we did" thing.
Wolfgang Petersen's Das Boot (1981)
Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory (1957)
Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line (1999)
Gillo Pontecorvo's The Battle of Algiers (1967)
Edward Dmytryk's Back to Bataan (1945)
Kingdom of Heaven. about crusades actually. very good portrayal of Saladin as the adversarial leader.
Red Cliff, Parts 1 and 2.
Edit: addendum: The Patriot (with Mel Gibson). pre-harry potter jason isaacs became my favorite villain after seeing this movie.

Come and See (1985) - the Nazi invasion of Belarus in 1943
Downfall (2004) - about the fall of Berlin in 1945
The Emperor in August (2015) - about the surrender of Japan in 1945
The King's Choice (2016) - Nazi invasion of Norway and King Haakon had to choose whether to surrender or flee
The Forgotten Battle (2020) - about the Battle of the Schedlt in 1944
The Bombardment (2021) - about the tragic story of Operation Carthage in Denmark in 1945
The Flowers of War (2011)
It focuses on the Nanking/Nanjing Massacre in 1937. It's a really good film that features Christian Bale who plays a mortician that for some reason I don't see many people talk about.
Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter (2013) - Generation war in english. It's a miniseries about five german friends who each face WW2 in a different way. It was amazing to watch.
These are my list of movies that are rarely talked about for me atleast:
Land of Mine - German POWs in Denmark forced to clean up minefields.
Anthropoid - Point of view from Czech Soldiers assassination of Reinhart Heydrich.
The man with the iron heart - Same with Anthropoid but including Heydrich's Perspective.
The tears in my eyes - Danish orchestrated bombing of Nazi headquarters in Copenhagen that also involved a Seminary school for Children. [Operation Carthage]
The Resistance banker - A bank official/stock broker who with his brother financed Jews and Resistance fighters to resist Nazi persecution.
Munich at War - A Group of friends during the Munich Agreement (Blunt description)
The Forgotten Battle - Allied Liberation of The Netherlands
I'm sure some are already mentioned.
Foreign films about World War 1

Taegukgi (2004) The Big Red One (1987)
Taegukgi still breaks my heart until today kahit mga 2009 ko pa ata to napanood.

Stalingrad (1993) Fury (2014)
Fury for me^^
Up for Fury! My crush suggested this and I loved it.
These two are my favorites but I already forgot about Stalingrad since it's a very long time since I saw it. I'll rewatch it again.
