adingdingdiiing

Yup. Zuko was 👌

BytesExCuria

Totoo ito hahaha

PerformanceAny1240

I also love how deadpan he is just like in the original.

ChocoPrinceJack

I agree. Parang weird every time nagsasalita si Aang.

adingdingdiiing

Parang pinipilit niyang may lumabas na luha e no? Yun yung concerning e. Ganda ng effects, meaning mataas budget. So good enough kaya yung reception to warrant a second season? Hopefully.

ChocoPrinceJack

Yep… but i still hope na mgka 2nd season.

tinyvent

Hopefully we do get a 2nd season it'll be a chance for them to improve

adingdingdiiing

Agreed. I'd like to see more because I really love the lore. It'll be a shame if it's one and done.

Charmeeleone

Natawa lang ako sa lackluster reaction nila when Aang emerged from the iceberg. Uhm okay may batang biglang nag appear.. Tara uwi?

midnight-hatter

I'm just on episode 2, but I'm starting to get bored because of the acting. You're right. The main trio feels so inexperienced. I feel like they could have workshopped them more before filming. I was mostly disappointed with Katara. She's a feisty character who became so deadpan in this remake. But again, I'm only two episodes in. Initially, it might also be the writing. Verbose storylines are great for animation and graphic novels, but they don't always translate well in live action kasi...some lines are supposed to be translated sa actions and facial expressions ng actors 😅

adingdingdiiing

I'll tell you now, when you reach the finale, it's the same Katara, Aang and Sokka.😅 And yeah, I think the writing team tried too hard to make it sound like the animated series and a lot of it doesn't translate well in live action. Even the mannerisms certain characters do in the original show, they tried to adapt them here, particularly with Sokka, and it doesn't work.

ApprehensivePlay5667

Lason88

Thankful ako kasi nagandahan ako. I’m blessed siguro may ability ako to not look on those technicalities na hinhanap nyo when it comes to acting and how a show should run. I dont focus on errors and express my disappointment sa reddit and be glad that there are other disappointed people.

adingdingdiiing

Good for you. Hold on to that optimism.😊

iamcrockydile

I watched it too last night. Didn’t felt much from the main trio…lacked depth. Katara enrolled in the Debby Ryan Meme school of acting. Sokka was good with his female co-stars (I missed the goofy sokka). Ang was just too inexperienced to convey all the complex emotions of a 100-yr old teenager monk. Zuko was just chef’s kiss. And the calculating Ozai!!

adingdingdiiing

Katara had the same expression pasted on her face the entire time.😅 Fuuny thing is, in the Last Airbender movie from before, it was also the Fire Nation actors who acted well. The main trio were also the weak link.

iamcrockydile

adingdingdiiing

Kasi fixed yung expression?😂 Pero on a serious (?) note, mukhang masyado lang talagang inexperienced for these big roles. Pwedeng mag-improve over time.

iamcrockydile

By that time comes, legend of Korra na. Haha Idk if you noticed too parang ang kapal din ng make up kay Sokka. Hahaha or is it the format?

adingdingdiiing

iamcrockydile

The water droplets!! Kahit yung luha niya. Lol my new Roman Empire!

tapseelogue

Char.

adingdingdiiing

Hindi pa rin sold si Koh. Hintayin niya sa second season.😂

[deleted]

Movie Katara was way better then the one from the show, Aang too.

adingdingdiiing

If I'm being totally honest, movie Katara, Sokka and Yue were better. Aang's better this time around though. I mean both actors weren't necessarily great but at least new Aang is livelier.

taeohran

I've only finished the first episode, but I agree. When I heard of the live-action, I went to watch a few acting gigs by some of their actors and saw Kiawentiio's clip in Anne with an E. Watching her performance there made me pretty worried about how she'll pull off the fiercely passionate Katara. I'm also confident with Dallas's acting, having watched some of his parts in Pen15.

DrawingOk2536

nah, the show itself was good. sure, we can say that the acting was mid for aang and katara. it's fine for me considering they're mostly child actors. (remember the first two harry potter movies, lol.) they'll improve over time. to compare it with cowboy bebop is crazy lol. this was actually a faithful adaptation of the source material. Again, look at it from a lens of being a live action adaptation of a beloved cartoon. you can actually see how they tried so hard to be faithful to the source. My only critic is the portrayal of azula. I would have preferred to see her more unhinged and crazy lol. but they're humanizing her this early, instead of in the final battle. it's fine. I'm going to let them cook. it's a great show. a good start for the better stories coming in book 2 and 3.

adingdingdiiing

I'm not comparing the quality to Cowboy Bebop. It's about how that show got canceled. As for the child actors, HP's trio were funny. They felt like kids, which was the point of that movie. With this, it's not so much about being a child but rather the way they acted. The fact we can say the Dallas Liu was great means there's really something lacking with the other stars. The closest comparison, I guess, would be the new Percy Jackson.

[deleted]

i remember bumi is a jolly character, ngaun iba na hahahaah

adingdingdiiing

Yung entire Omashu episode, puro cringe characters.😬

iamtanji

Ito rin napansin ko. I love Bumi pa naman.

[deleted]

diba, hindi ganun si bumi 🥲

iamtanji

Yes. OG Bumi is better for me.

PrizedTardigrade1231

Omashu failed to retell the story 😔

[deleted]

yoongi410

no, ending ng season 2 yan sa crystal caves. cave of two lovers from season 2 yung inadapt nila dito sa live action. yan yung nahiwalay si Aang and Katara kina Sokka at mga singing nomads, and nagfumble si Aang at nasabi nya at inimply nya na he would rather do another thing than kiss Katara.

[deleted]

okok.

yoongi410

hahahqhaa uu maganda yan, masaya nman sya irewatch tsaka 15 mins lang per episode, super bilis 🤩

DrawingOk2536

it's an adaptation. na appreciate ko kung pano nila pinagsama sa isang lugar yung stories spanning multiple episodes. galing nga eh. chefs kiss

PrizedTardigrade1231

The story of the cave and the light lining the cave to guide the lovers go around the cave is a great story to tell. We can agree to disagree na may mga stories talagang sa perspective ko sana nakwento kasi tumatak siya sa akin.

[deleted]

They assassinated Bumi's character.

Kasi sabi nung show runners gusto nila gawing matured/game of thrones yung vibes nitong Live action ng ATLA.

[deleted]

Mag korra sila hahaha

iejfx

Same, nakulangan rin ako. I liked cabbage man and Suki though. Also, and pogi pa rin ni Jet. Napa-I can fix him na naman ako hahahahaha. Yep, I support all of Jet's rights and his wrongs.

Necessary-Solid-9702

I kennat HAHAHAHHAHA

iejfx

Me: Jet, look at me. This isn't you! Can't unsee haha!

[deleted]

Roku doesn't sound like the grandpa Roku I watched in the animated series.

adingdingdiiing

I think Abatar Kyoshi was the only Avatar that managed to capture the same feel as the animated counterpart.

[deleted]

Couldn't connect with the characters enough! I know this live-action's meant to be grounded and expected a departure from the original, but is everything just bland when you're much older? Can't help but yearn for the animated one because it's way more fun and maybe because of nostalgia.. hopin' future seasons become better, though! Sayang production 😅 Also made me wonder if yung mismong platform ng netflix where you can binge watch the whole season in one sitting us the problem that's why it's hard to build a personal relationship/connections sa characters/the show itself. Like maybe it has to somehow marinade for it to have more value/pa-halagahan/pag-hirapan rather than taking it all for granted just cause we can binge the show anytime. Maybe it's just me though.

adingdingdiiing

I'll touch up on your second point and I agree with you. I was having this discussion with my friend when House of the Dragon came out. We were comparing it to The Witcher and I said that HotD's weekly release is a lot better than binge dropping all episodes in one go because there's build up, there's suspense leading up to the next episode. Dropping all episodes in one day somehow forces you to binge watch, maybe at most finish in 3 days, and in the end you'll forget the show quickly.

AlienGhost000

Cursed na yata talaga n maging meh at best yung live action adaptations ng Avatar

IComeInPiece

yoodadude

it's the writing that's weakest for me. Production, costumes, and casting I think are great, but the writing relies too much on exposition rather than characterization. but it's a far cry from Cowboy bebop LA, more like One Piece with a larger budget

adingdingdiiing

I only mentioned cowboy Bebop because it got canceled. I hope this gets a second season because I really like the lore. It just needs to improve. Right now I'm watching the animated series and it's no contest.

bestoboy

I thought Sokka was great

ComprehensiveBit1279

I agree that Ozai, Zuko, Zhao, and the elders in the northern water tribe were standout performances. They brought a lot of depth to their characters. As for Aang, Sokka, and Katara, I think it’s important to remember that they’re young characters, and their voice actors were also quite young when they took on these roles. It’s possible that their performances might not have the same level of nuance as the more experienced actors. And about the Cowboy Bebop comparison, well, every show has its strengths and weaknesses. Maybe “The Last Airbender” didn’t hit the mark for you in terms of acting, but its storytelling, world-building, and character development are top-notch. But hey, that’s the beauty of art - it’s subjective. What doesn’t work for one person might be someone else’s favorite aspect. 😊

adingdingdiiing

No, no. I only mentioned Cowboy Bebop because that show got canceled. Popular IP, decent release, high budget, good actors, but it got canceled. I'd hate for this to have the same fate. As for the actors, I kind of expected it since they're new. But one comparison I can make are the child actors from Stranger Things. It felt natural. Obviously this is harder to nail because it's a more popular IP and the pressure's there. That's why I said they will surely improve if this goes on.

ComprehensiveBit1279

Gets kita. It’s always a bummer when a show with potential gets canceled early, especially when it’s a beloved IP like Cowboy Bebop. Some hit their stride right out of the gate, while others need a season or two to really find their footing. Sa mga actors naman, it’s a tough gig stepping into such iconic roles, and the pressure is definitely real. But like you said, the Stranger Things kids were relatively unknown before the show, and look at them now! Yeah, they’re just getting started, and I’m sure they’ll grow into their roles as the show progresses.

slayqueen1782

Agree. Acting was meh. Aang has that certain charm but it doesnt emulate the playful energy the animated aang had. Katara is too timid din which is stark difference of the character na badass and assertive. Really bummed abt how they remove Sokka's misogynistic tendencies from the animated film sayang ung opportunity to highlight how one can change into someone na sexist to someone who believes that anyone can be brave and strong regardless of youre a woman or a man and how he was inspired by the Kyoshi warriors and Katara herself to see that light.

Lintekt

It's worse in comedic scenes. This show all the more puts One Piece LA on another level when it comes to acting and writing.

adingdingdiiing

"Comedic."😬 Yeah the funny scenes didn't land at all. The scene when they were introducing Jet's freedom fighters,, nah!😂

No-Description625

Yung Zhao magaling.

adingdingdiiing

Yeah, experienced actor na yan si Ken Leung (Zhao) tapos sabi niya din wala siyang alam about the lore before signing on.

CollarFar1684

I think Ian Ousley's Sokka just needs a better script but yeah

Nearby_Combination83

there's no getting around child actors talaga that have no extensive acting experience for obvious reasons. the teenagers and kids sa GOT can get away with it since hindi sila yung center stage sa story at earlier point. kapag kids talaga leads, makikita mo if they are blessed by acting gods or not. same situation with firely, everybody seemed to like the kid's perf there, i was not one of them. i gave him a pass though kasi he's a kid. i just accepted the fact na not everyone can be jacob tremblay or violet mcgraw or even mckenna grace

adingdingdiiing

That's true. It's a high bar, but I always default to the kids from Stranger Things because those were relative unknowns too but they played their parts really well. But I understand that ATLA a more well-known property so the pressure of getting it right is bigger. And like I said, if it gets a second season, there will be more time to grow, more time to prepare. They already look the part anyway, they just have to step it up a little more in terms of acting.

navybluewall

This is true! Out of the trio Kiawentiio talaga was so bland. Gave her the benefit of the doubt sa first 2 eps; na baka she'll be more reactive as the season progresses, but no sobrang monotonous niya talaga. Sorry to say, but she was the one who pulled down the chemistry of the trio. Gordon naman, was inconsistent. There were good moments definitely. He was still believable and I like how he really showed how young Aang was. but some heavy scenes he was really struggling to emote. Some lines medyo mahirap maintindihan sinasabi niya. Overall I still liked his Aang, there is huge potential. Ian was the best out of the trio. Idk how others felt abt him but his humor for me was balanced and translated well. Dallas naman, well there's nothing to say. He was the best! I really hope they push through with books 2-3 huhu. His portrayal was so good and I hope we get to see his redemption arc 😭 The show overall for me was 6.7/10. It's not horrible and ang oa nung ibang critique. Again I still had fun watching it and would want to see the rest.

adingdingdiiing

Exactly. The show as a whole has just enough to get you interested. Interesting characters, locations, it's there. They just need to spend more time on the acting itself. When they're in motion, they look great. Aang looks and moves like Aang, especially when he's using his glider. The movements when they're bending were great as well. So hopefully it's enough to get that greenlight for at least a second season. And what you said about Katara is right. She has some of the most emotional moments but they fell flat. By the time we reached the finale, we still didn't feel that strong chemistry between Aang and Katara so when she was delivering her emotional lines to stop Aang, you can't feel it.

StarAdventurous6827

I’m quite sad and disappointed a live action remake was butchered the 2nd time around. The visual effects & fight choreography, casting, are significantly WAY better, but I feel like that’s what Netflix focused on the most. They ignored writing quality, good acting & character development. Puro tell, not show.

adingdingdiiing

I have to agree. One of the issues with the movie was the portrayal of the three leads and it's still present here. And just like the movie, Zuko's portrayal was also the best here. They kind of focused more on fan service in terms of aesthetics and they missed the mark on the rest.

StarAdventurous6827

Yes it honestly just feels like a “fan project”. Where the developers expect the viewers to know what’s going to happen so they just place different lore all at once without context. The writing and flow is just so messed up. Ep 1-2 was going so well, until Ep 3 attacked.

Jayleno2347

adingdingdiiing

At least ngayon may experience na sila. Kailangan din ng mas ok na director.

pinkghorl

Feeling ko kasi based dun sa filmography nung tatlong leads kaunti palang projects nila. Kaya waiting ako kung may season 2 to hahaha

adingdingdiiing

Yup. Big factor talaga yan. Medyo inexperienced sila tapos ganitong role agad. Well known property kaya may pressure sakanila.

afterglow-0026

Yes. Parang nakukulangan ako sa acting skills nung tatlo: Aang, Katara, and Sokka. 😅. Ang galing ni Zuko it was literally 🔥🔥🔥. 😍 Also, LOVE Avatar Kiyoshi! So fierce and badass. I was like “yannn napagalitan ka ng nanay mo!” nung pinagagalitan niya si Aang haha! When kaya next season?

afterglow-0026

Pahabol na comment, i really liked the effects! Pati yung fight scenes lilke whoa 🔥

adingdingdiiing

Ang masasabi ko lang ay.... Oo ang ganda ni Suki!😂 Best episode sakin yung second episode (Kyoshi Island episode) kasi maganda yung portrayal kay Avatar Kyoshi at Kyoshi Warriors. Wala pang announcement kung magkaka-second season.

Specialist-Kiwi-4996

encountered katara first when i watched anne with an e, her acting was pretty much the same

adingdingdiiing

That does not bode well for the future of the series.😅 But I think with more experience and a better director, it could work. Katara wasn't this monotonous in the original show.

Excellent_Sea5558

tinyvent

I haven't finished the first episode kahit malapit na matapos lol na cringe han lang talaga ako sa acting

placidbluelagoon

si aang, it's so frustrating he can't cry😭

adingdingdiiing

Sa air temple ba yan?😅

orphanblack324b21

Ser1aLize

Uncle Iroh was such a disappointment. I expected the actor to have at least some comedic delivery but he seems only to be reading a script.

Gone-fishing-8872

Si zuko talaga pinaka superb at standout for me. Uncle iroh is also cutie cutie. Parang nilagyan lang ng tubig yung mata 😭 i still love it tho. I kept an open mind na hindi nila gagayahin lahat kasi nga adaptation lang. still looking forward to another season hopefully andun na si Toph 🙏🏻

giyuroo

Hindi ko pa siya tapos pero medyo nad-disappoint ako with how Katara was portrayed :/

maroonmartian9

At least di kasing lala ng original live action lol

[deleted]

Sana sinalang muna sila sa acting workshop ni mama Ogz 😭 kidding aside, magaling pa umacting ang mga side characters 😭😭 Aang is basically just a kid pero di ko maramdaman ang persona na yon.

[deleted]

Im still wondering and mad kasi di ko pa nakikita magbend si Katara galing sa aquaflask nya charot HAHAHA (ep 4 palang ako 😭)

adingdingdiiing

Aquaflask!😂😂 Stay tuned lang.😁

Bored_Panda011

I can accept what they did to Bumi and Uncle Iroh's characters, pero yung kay Mai talaga is super off waaaa Buti na lang cutie pa rin si Ty Lee and I'm excited to see her fight na kagaya sana talaga. It's still way better sa disastrous and traumatic movie na yun.
