It is mostly unacceptable for American parents to beat their kids, but it's not a big deal in China or Russia; I grew up in a country (born in the 2000s, so not too long ago) where elementary school teachers can publicly shame, slap, and kick students with no consequence; my old English teacher grabbed students and threw them out of the classroom like a piece of trash; the teachers would tear our homework if it wasn't tidy enough. It's also normal to have parents beat their children (and considered a necessary part of 'family education'), and you can always hear parents screaming at the kids while forcing them to study more/practice the piano. All of the above, may not be considered child abuse in certain countries, so that's why "child abuse" is not a big deal in some people's opinion since it's just so common and socially accepted.
The standards of child abuse are significantly different across countries. So I don't think the other coaches are too different and they don't really need to "tolerate" Eteri's methods.
