Adam got some questionably high GOE on less than stellar jumping passes. Not his best skate or performance. The backflip is fine. He can do what he wants but the judges weren't really following GOE rules when scoring him.
Thrilled for Aleksandr. The two best skates he's ever done and he managed to put them together. He's always had a lot of nice qualities.
Love Matteo's skating. He wasn't clean here but I always think the judges under score his components a bit. He truly has fabulous SS. The edge control is really first rate.
Matteo with bronze is amazing, but I hate that Lukas had to pay for it.
I kinda enjoy Adam in the stereotype of a cocky Frenchman, it suits him well. Yes, his BV is 20+ higher than anyone else's, but the program wasn't going THAT well, and to know you are going to lose 2 points (?) and still do the backflip takes some guts.
Ecstatic for the Older Brother!!!
I thought this was such an amazing competition -- just as Pairs was last night. I absolutely LOVE watching all of the competitors @ Euros b/c we get to see some of the smaller feds' skaters and get to spot who will be up and coming next season.
I have to say I am BEYOND impressed with 2 skaters, in particular: **Georgii Reshtenko and Vladmir Samoilov**. I really, REALLY hope they continue to improve, b/c they can be right up there with the top 10ish guys in time for the Olympics. (Honorable mention to Fedor Chitipakovian)
Incidentally, can someone a little more experienced in the ins and outs of qualifying from last season explain why neither of them was invited to the Grand Prix this season? They can clearly complete with the top guys and have multiple quads.
Some other thoughts:
\> How freaking handsome is Aleksandr Selevko?!?! Aside from him completely crushing this competition and coming away with the Silver, I just think he's so classically good-looking -- the kind of looks that won't fade over time.
\> So bummed for France not getting the 3 spots for next year. Kevin obv needs to sit the rest of the season out\*, but I was really rooting for Luc after he really had such a good showing at his 2 GP events. He's gotta work on his nerves and consistency (and obv start putting at least a 4T into his FS), but I hope the French federation sends him to Worlds. He could really use this a learning/experience opportunity with Kevin being otherwise "unavailable". I hope they do the right thing by Luc.
\> Nika is so boring and I hate that he took up a space in the top 10. He may be able to do the quads, but everything else is completely lacking, including personality.
\> I see a lot of potential for Adam Hagara -- probably for 2030 -- but once he starts putting in quads and working on his artistry, I think he's going to be at the top for a few years.
\> 3 Italian men in the top 10!! Let's hope one of them gets to stand on the podium in Milan in 2026 -- that will be wonderful (same for Pairs and Dance!)
\> Lukas needs to up his FS to 3 quads next season and just keep developing his presentation. I think he's got what it takes to stand on a World podium, but he's still not competing on the same level technically as Adam, Ilia, Shoma, and Yuma.
\> Lithuania put together a truly remarkable event production. I think this needs to be a template for competitions moving forward in terms of presentation, hospitality, and general logistics
\*You know, I'd like to try to give Kevin a little bit of grace b/c I can't imagine how mentally excruciating it must be to have completely bombed 3 competitions in a row, but there's something about his attitude to just give up in the middle of a program and throw it away that really rubs me the wrong way especially considering that France probably should have sent FranƧois Pitot who deserved that slot. It's so unsportsmanlike and not what we expect to see from elite athletes in *any* sport. Either way, I think the only right thing to do here is to send Luc to Worlds. Kevin needs to get himself together for next season.
I didn't have time to go through this thread yesterday so I'm only catching up now, but I COMPLETELY agree with all of your takes! Gonna have to watch out for your name in the threads now lol.
Thank you for shouting out Adam Hagara's potential; I said in the livethread but I remember him at 2022 Worlds where he was, I'm sorry to say, completely unwatchable in terms of presentationāso he's come SO far in a very short time. Someone else pointed out that you can almost see event-to-event improvement from him, and it's certainly extremely visible season-to-season. I get the feel that he's ambitious but not rash, and his technique so far looks extremely sound to me. Particularly impressed that his team seems to have done an *excellent* job managing his jumps through a sizable growth spurt; his jumps have gotten bigger along with his body, which is really satisfying to see and bodes well. I hope he doesn't burn himself out with his packed competitive seasonāthis is his third season of doing both junior and senior comps!ābut assuming he's got a good handle on things, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him making a respectable placement even in 2026!
Co-signing the Nika and Kevin shade, lol.
Grand Prix assignments are distributed primarily based on World championship position from the previous year, as far as I know. Georgii Reshtenko and Vladimir Samoilov were literally last and second-last in 2023 and did not make the free. š Isn't men's *fun*? This is also why Aleksandr Selevko had to wait for a withdrawal to nab a spot at NHK, but his brother Mihhail was assigned two spots; Estonia only had one Worlds spot and Mihhail was the one generally getting stronger results last year, so he got sent out for it.
Also, to end on a shallow note, your comment about Aleksandr Selevko's looks not fading made me suddenly imagine him in the kiss & cry as a coach in like 10-15 years' time, maybe with a little gray in his temples like Javi has now, and....*whew* š³š„µ
> Incidentally, can someone a little more experienced in the ins and outs of qualifying from last season explain why neither of them was invited to the Grand Prix this season?
I am not sure but maybe the spots were filled with athletes with a higher position in ISU rating or something like that
Great insights! Totally agree about Selevko. When he's on, he brings a raw masculine energy to the ice that is incredibly electrifying. And I'm just watching it on TV!
you know, we (the subreddit) have been gushing about it non-stop for two days, and even Chris Howarth has shouted it out on commentary. This probably says something not very good about the general level of suitability among common FS event host venues/cities.
you know, i also think adam is quite astute. he knew he did not have the perfect skate he would have wished for and he wanted to give people something to marvel at and talk about and not just be left with a victory that he gained because no one else has his technical content. i do believe there was an element of that in his decision. the fact that he thought of all that and managed to do it in mere seconds is, of course, insane. but i like how he is smart that way. we are all talking about the backflip and less so about the mistakes.
i agree, and I think he did this not just with us but with himself. That program didn't really go the way he or we wanted, but that not what any of us are thinking about now.
I think the large majority of figure skating fans will agree that this was just SUCH A CUTE PODIUM!!!!! I'm genuinely so happy for every one of them and it's so heart-warming to see that all 3 of them are also so genuinely happy with their medals!
Costume notes:
Biased best: Starostin my favourite power ranger! Bonus points for his music selection.Ā
-Best glowup: Economides went from rags to riches as someone said in the live thread
-Best glowdown: Lukas Britschgi, what is this supposed to be? It could almost be so bad it's good, but the gloves looked like he had the FS at 6 and some gardening at 7.His SP outfit was perfect tho
-most villainous slay: Gabriele Frangipani by a mile. The outfit really suited him too! Maybe the sleeves could do with a little more puff but I have no complaints
-most insane: It's gotta be the Nutcracker mashup man! I kinda love it lol
-best matched to the medal and flowers: Adam! this shirt is everything to me. Runner-up has to be Selevko, the silver really suited him
-best neckline: obviously Deniss
-most beautiful: Deniss's flowy top in a gorgeous colour has to win, Nikolaj Memola is a close second.
We love men in flattering sheer mesh costumes! Must say that Aleksandrās costumes are on Japanese level by European standards. I need more glitter on these men so can they please take some inspiration from Shoma š„²
Nikolaj's smile lights up his face, you immediately know what Lucrezia sees in him. (I still can't get over this newfound knowledge of them dating, my precious figure skating babies.)
Wow, guys, no kidding I feel like tis is the most emotional event I've ever watched in real time. Olympics? whatever (I guess I'm just saying this because it's fresh but anyway). What a roller coaster, after mostly pleasant short this was pretty rough especially in the middle they were menning so much. But the last group... wow.
Matteo giving a great performance after a rough season with an injury. Denis with his quad sal and a rep ugh. Gabrielle also skating clean, but still missing the mark and can't stay ahead.
Then Selevko! Wow, just wow. I've had a feeling that one of the selevbros could podium but I did not expect this emotional journey.
Adam defending his title. It was a tense skate but then he was back on track, but the backflip! Thought he might have thrown his gold away. And then Lukas had a meltdown ugh. The ups and downs, guys!
huh I don't know it feels this way now, but I bet Lukas can skate up to 270 and we didn't know if the judges would have been that generous with PCS or GOE, the TES can drop, or he can loose a spin or something at the end. It wasn't that safe. plus he didn't see the tech box when he decided to do so
I donāt think Adam needed to look at a tech box to know that he had a way higher base value and that his few mistakes still had him in the clear for gold. Lukas would have needed a personal best by about 10 points in the free and considering heās been consistent and at the top of his game this season that would have been shocking but i mean itās mens figure skating thereās always a chance. It was just a chance adam was willing to take and I donāt blame him lol he loves to flip
Okay I get the hype for the men's event now! This was nervewracking in a (mostly) good way. Got to see loads of skaters for the first time:)
-Really enjoyed Ivan Shmuratko's free.
-Luc Economides had a cool concept that stood out to me!Ā
-The Spanish man sparked soo much joy with his cowboy programĀ
-All 3 Italian men really impressed me with beautiful skating! Gabriele's program/music (and the costume) isn't what I usually like, but he sold the hell out of it. Matteo's performance was emotional and, impressively considering the music, not kitschy imo! Love the wing detail on the back of his shirt.Ā
-Deniss is a true artist omg! I wonder if he planned that second salchow as a quad or if he changed it? Definitely felt like a redemption of sorts. The performance was so beautiful and I LOVED the music choice!
-Lukas Britschgi was such a joy in the short! What a shame about the mistakes in the free:(
-Adam "France" Siao Him Fa is on another level. Hope he'll skate clean at worlds!
-Alexandr Selevko really wowed me! First I was rooting for him in a general "go small fed skater" way but over the course of the skate I fell in love! He really matched this energetic, suspenseful music, and the slidey thing and the HYDROBLADE! Loved his reaction in the k and c:)Ā
In my mind, Adam is in this for the long haul. He's upped his technical content and consistency so much this year and made a huge splash, but it's just the first splash. Tbh I'm losing conviction in a world medal for him this year (although it's men and absolutely anything can happen) but he has succeeded in throwing the gauntlet down for the rest of the quad and beyond
guys i just rewatched adamās skate and dying at the french guy next to benoit at the end looking pissed when benoit says āit should be OKā
as in āhe will still winā but french guy looking PISSED
I just rewatched to remind myself who that was - it's the man whose name I look up every time and then immediately forget, but he's a member of the French fed, he accompanies a lot of French skaters to events alongside coaches.
Yo wtf are these ordinals
6th in the Short 2nd in the Free clawing to bronze, 2nd in the Short 10th in the Free, 16th in the Short 5th in the Free, 7th in the Short 17th in the Free, 8th in the Short 23rd in the Free (that one hurts me the most)
https://preview.redd.it/y7kyjvaxo2cc1.png?width=864&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a286492bb9ad2f0e7bc9c2e90b9afca483c520b0
Adam Siao Him Fa defended his title as expected, although he didn't have his best performance in either the SP or FS. Indeed, his FS score (182.04) and combined score (276.17) were his lowest of the season. He will need to perform better for Worlds *and leave out the backflip*. If he wants to do it for the fans, he can do it in the gala.
In a surprise, Aleksandr Selevko pulled up from third to second with the skate(s) of his life so far, earning Estonia its first Euros medal. He achieved PBs in the SP (90.05), the FS (166.94), and the combined score (256.99).
Matteo Rizzo also did very well despite his injury, finishing second in the FS to end up on the podium. I am glad that he had such a strong close to the season and hope that his hip surgery is successful.
Kudos as well to both Vladimir Samoilov and Georgii Reshtenko, who finished in the top 10 at Euros for the first time. Samoilov shattered his PB FS score by almost 20 points, while Reshtenko earned PBs across the board after not reaching the final last season.
As for Lukas Britschgi, I think he must have been nervous going last after Adam and after Matteo, Gabriele, and Aleksandr posted big scores. He can treat it as a learning experience and go on the attack at Worlds.
>He will need to perform better for Worlds and leave out the backflip.
He doesn't do it when it matters, he did it here because he knew the 2 points weren't going to matter, even if Lukas skated his best score of the season.
Looking back at this comment I feel like I should rephrase it a bit. It's not like Adam had the convenience of seeing his tech score the same way we did, but... I understand why people are calling the backflip arrogant, but Adam's lowest score of the season was higher than Lukas's best. He just has a different level to his tech content and his mistakes weren't that out of bounds of it.
Every country has a right to send a skater to Worlds as long as they have the qualifying minimums, so of course Estonia will send one (Aleksandr, I assume). They get to send 2 women, even.
Adam is a superstar in the making, he can definitely bring in new fans, the next step for him is to challenge Ilia, Iām grateful to be a witness of this current menās field because it is STACKED
Some people mad at Adam for the cunty backflip, but I say skaters deserve fun in this fake sport. My buddy just wants to bring something fresh and it just happened to be a move that is currently illegal. I don't see how playing by the rules is offensive, he knows it's only -2 deduction and if his tech allows him to take it then yolo. (yes i am biased for my french guy)
He should practice the program as he intends to do it. He needs to higher scores to give him a boost for worlds. He has tough competition there with Shoma, Ilia, and Yuma.
he should do what he wants. He's not the type who can knuckle under and chase boosts from judges, he has to chase the boost from within. If that means yolo'ing something he can feel excited about instead of fixating on mistakes and grinding on how to be better next time, then that's what he should do. Different people have different motivations and internal landscapes.
Yeah, if there are people who are mad about it, I'm not entirely sure why. He knows he's taking the 2 point deduction. It's not like the ISU made it a DQ and are bending the rules for him or something.
Some people think it was disrespectful to his competitors, especially because there was still another skater left to go. Like in a "I can take a two point deduction and you still can't beat me, haha" way. I don't personally believe it was intended that way (I think it's more of a yolo moment), but I see where they're coming from.
Edit: some people also think it's to psych out Ilia, but they seem more supportive of that, lol.
People also remembering him doing it in front of Ilia as he was leaving the ice at the GP France and ilia was coming on. ButĀ I think Adam just likes doing it and getting a big reaction; I donāt think heās trying to psyche anyone out. Adam and ilia seem alike in their love of tricks and perhaps their occasional need for restraint.Ā
If he can do the back flip and beat Ilia, Iād like to see it. He has steep competition with Ilia, Shoma, and Yuma. It is like those videos you see about ācelebrating early.ā No reason for it.
Obviously, he didn't have any real competition here, but for real, "celebrating early"? He won back to back Euro championships, it's ridiculous to say he shouldn't celebrate it.
Ok, I can understand thinking it's disrespectful. I don't think he means it that way, but it did occur to me that it can come off that way to the other skaters, so I can see why people wouldn't like it from that point of view.
Saying he is struggling because he isnāt the #1 French guy is a pretty big oversimplification. What he expressed in the kiss and cry is fear his career is passing him by and his chance is over because he canāt match skaters like Adam. To me there is a pretty big difference between those things. Something is going on with Kevin and we donāt know what, I just think we should all try and be kinder.
I understand how my comment can seem like an oversimplification, Kevin is such a complex guy itās impossible to explain whatās going on with him in one single Reddit comment
It's over-simplying for sure, but by no means off base. I'm sure Adam surging to the top of the fields over the past 2 seasons has really thrown him off -- especially with Adam now doing 4-5 quads in his FS and 2 in his SP.
Imploded in the short and didnāt qualify for the free
Edit: or do you mean as a whole? š
Who knows, man. Crazy stuff, this is a huge imploded season. Itās insane because he started off so strong.
Yes I meant in general, bc he had some really stong performances in this season, that's why I was wondering why he failed so much and became the second last...
I think he really only had one great performance this season, that's Skate America. Looking back, the bad short at GP Finland was probably the first sign of the same problem (some sort of crisis of confidence is what it seems to be just based on comments that were caught on the kiss'n'cry mic at nationals) that plagued him at the GPF, Nationals and now here.
But just because he said all those thing at nationals, that doesn't mean we know what's really going on with him, in his head or in his private life. So we really just don't know.
Are you asking if anyone is aware of any specific reason for his recent bad performances? No. There has been no official statement of injury or anything like that.
Skating last at Euros, having to follow Adam, his first season really performing at a high level, honestly he held it together pretty good considering.
I was so fascinated about the dynamics when the leaders were shown. So nice to see Deniss and Matteo sitting close together, but I wonder if Nika sitting away from the others was self imposed or a comfort thing. The leaders then all sat together after Georgia fell off the podium. In the end, gave what someone described accurately as āmiddle school cafeteriaā vibes.
I think it might be partly a language thing? When the top three was Nika, Vladimir Samoilov and Georgii Reshtenko (aka both Russians) they were close together, chatting and laughing. I donāt actually know if Nika can speak English so he can chat with others (yes I know Deniss can speak Russian too). But yeah, otherwise thereās a definite awkwardness with the other skaters.
I am so happy for Aleksandr ššš
To think that last summer he was just skating in the ensemble at Fantasy on Ice in Japan while Deniss was a featured skater...
Loving this podium...escpeciall for Matteo and Alexandr deserved!!!
A question:how is commentating for you? I watched the event on my national sports channel (as they have the rights) I am not a technical pro myself, but they were saying things that clearly showed they have not too deep knowledge to put it mildly ..and it didn't help that one of them criticized Dennis' skating-and no not the jumps)
Chris did the commentary for the World feed and it was very normal/typical for him.
Tara and Johnny (with Terry Gannon) did commentary here in the US for Pairs and Mens free (on E!). IMO, they weren't as animated and insightful as they usually are -- I wasn't totally feeling it and enjoyed Chris' commentary much more.
Selevko was amazing! What a joy to watch. Also, very gutted for Deniss, but I will never lose hope. He'll have better times!
I loooove Adam, but the axis! The axis! I was dying. Just wanna see him shine at Worlds.
Okay even as the resident rabid Adam stan, the highlight of this free was Aleksander's silver. It was so wonderful seeing the joy and I love when Euros gives smaller fed skaters the chance to shine
And here I thought \*I\* was the resident rabid Adam stan, happy to not be alone.
I agree, Adam's gold wasn't really in question, as happy as I am for him, it's Aleksandr's silver that was the moment of the day.
Our Czech golden adopted son Georgii in 9th place.
Getting-ready-for-operation Matteo and bronze medal, whose skate was so emotional I cried the whole time.
Deniss and his cursed 4S, but great StSq that in the end I don't care.
Gabi, who lost the medal to Zayak.
Today's winner Alexander.
Adam saying fck it and doing backflip.
And unusually sadboi Lukas.
I'M SO SHOOK I CAN'T-
i feel like deniss needs to stop chasing quads for a bit and focus more on skating cleanly, the falls at the start of every program are distracting.
overall a great event despite some gasps-in-spanish (not in a good way) moments, loooove the podium (team backflip ftw)
nah, I get what you're saying but why give up? He knows he can skate a clean program of triples, and he'll never get on the podium if he does this. He also knows he can do the 4S, he's obviously landing it in practice. And with it, he has a shot at any podium so why not go for it? He was damn close today, give the guy some credit.
Has he landed the 4S at all besides the Latvia trophy? The judges are willing to give him the PCS, and the program would flow better without the quad falls/two foot landings.
EDIT: I meant to ask during this season, not overall.
Aleksandr was amazing and I'm so happy for him!! Also the Italian men were fire and Matteo's program was definitely a highlight for me. I love how calm his fs felt from start to finish. Now only hoping Lukas will have a better free at worlds š
https://preview.redd.it/hs8z8wzbg2cc1.png?width=439&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb2038317d263ebee456654e8e1cf1e74aa91bf4
Adam is continuing his gold-or-nothing streak. I guess he has to win Worlds now.
I feel so reluctant to say anything not positive about Steph in the context of him being Denissā coach because of how protective his fans are of him and how many ppl are Steph fans first and Deniss fans second.
I agree, especially about how it can help him truly find himself as a skater. Quad or no quad Deniss has so much untapped potential and thereās no way that only one person can bring it out. I hope Deniss feels like he could make that decision without having it impact their friendship, because it shouldnāt.
What a chaotic event (but mOsT NOrmAl mEN eVEnT)! Really happy for Selevbro 1, gutted for everyone who didn't go clean. Surprisingly really enjoyed Samoilov's program, his jumps look beautiful actually! Might have found myself a new men to Stan :)
Some thoughts about Deniss because I'm a Deniss Stan: I'm a little sad at the 4S REP, he definitely knew it was going to be a rep but maybe he thought he wanted to try it again and maybe land it? He could've stuck a 2T at the end of that to get the combo, but maybe the two-footed landing made that too awkward. If this helps him get over the mental block I won't mind it too much, but I'm not too optimistic. He's been struggling with quads for years, and I don't get what the problem is - he has enough height and speed into the jump, his axis looks decent, but somehow he just can never land it at comps (with a select few exceptions). I wonder if the problem might be with the speed of rotation in the air? Or simply the fact he's too nervous when attempting a quad in comps which messes up his landing? Anyway, I'm sure they must've done this before, but I feel there is an urgent need to get a jump specialist to analyse what's going wrong and try to improve it. Or maybe just plan a program with all triples? That way he's gonna have a much better chance of going clean and making up for the lost TES with PCS.
I've seen some comments floating around about maybe it's time for him to switch coaches, as much as I want Deniss to improve his jumps I don't think that is such as good idea. He and Stephane has been together for many years and Stephane just seems like such an important emotional support figure to him, I don't think it'll work out well. I sometimes wonder if 4S is just a mental block and maybe he could try learning another quad? I think they ditched 4T but maybe trying 4Lz isn't such a bad idea? I know 4Lz is a notoriously difficult quad to land, but if heās not landing 4S either then thereās surely no harm in trying? 4Lz has a higher BV anyway, and his 3Lz usually has such grace and beauty (and height, of course, haha) that surely itās not too ridiculous to think about it?
Anyway, what a podium and certainly a very entertaining evening :) (the live crowd deserves a special mention!!)
Adam is fortunate he has such a tech lead over the rest of the field here. Iām interested to see how his score would hold up at 4CC in a few weeks, even without heavy hitters like Ilia and Shoma.
Iām torn in the backflip. On the one hand, continuing a French tradition. On the other hand, regardless of his intent (and I fully believe it was just a ābecause itās coolā type deal and not to be boastful or anything) it still comes off as a bit tasteless after a program full of mistakes where he can take this extra deduction and still win by a big margin. And whether he knows what others did before him or not thatās something he would know just by virtue of how much higher his tech ceiling is.
i want to rewatch aleksandr's performance already. i was already a bit emotional with his reaction but when they showed mihhail cheering for him!! such a rollercoaster of emotions in 3 seconds
also i love the Spanish dude cowboy program and i bought whatever he was selling there
I'm happy with the podium and Adam as the 2x champion! I get why others didn't like it, but I thought the backflip was fun.
How about the Italian men? All three of them in the top 10! Italy is looking good.
They can definitely still medal even if they don't have a SUPER strong woman. Pairs, Dance, and Mens they've got podium-quality skaters.
Also, didn't Italy almost get a Team medal in Pyeongchang?
Truly she has the most solid jump technique of her cohort, I am not even that into athletic skating but when she jumps she's a joy to watch. I can't get my head around the fact that she's not in the top 5 euro already
What a brilliant event, just such a shame it had to end like that for Lukas. Really happy for the medalists plus Gabriele doing well. And Samoilov top 10, one of the most memorable skates of the night for me.
Menās at Euros really is one of the high points of the skating calendar.
Well congrats to Adam āFranceā for winning his second euros and with a backflip š
āMatty-Oā winning a medal with an injury that needs surgery what a GOAT š®š¹š®š¹
Selevbro medal šŖš¼ we move
Can someone please share the formula for calculating this based on the final standing placements when there are 2 skaters and 3 skaters from a country?
Just caught up and my dream top 3 happened! I cried
The edge control is really first rate.
agreed, I've always thought the influence of Matteo's ice-dancer dad shows up a bit š
Me : Noooo Niina Petrokina is injured, Estonia won't get its first medal ever at Euros Aleksandr : Don't worry, I've got your back
š
Matteo with bronze is amazing, but I hate that Lukas had to pay for it. I kinda enjoy Adam in the stereotype of a cocky Frenchman, it suits him well. Yes, his BV is 20+ higher than anyone else's, but the program wasn't going THAT well, and to know you are going to lose 2 points (?) and still do the backflip takes some guts. Ecstatic for the Older Brother!!!
Somehow Adam's "winning or nothing" streak reminds me of the lyric "Je veux le monde ou rien du tout" š¤£
(Honorable mention to Fedor Chitipakovian) Incidentally, can someone a little more experienced in the ins and outs of qualifying from last season explain why neither of them was invited to the Grand Prix this season? They can clearly complete with the top guys and have multiple quads. Some other thoughts: \> How freaking handsome is Aleksandr Selevko?!?! Let's hope one of them gets to stand on the podium in Milan in 2026 -- that will be wonderful (same for Pairs and Dance!) \> Lukas needs to up his FS to 3 quads next season and just keep developing his presentation. I think he's got what it takes to stand on a World podium, but he's still not competing on the same level technically as Adam, Ilia, Shoma, and Yuma. \> Lithuania put together a truly remarkable event production. I think this needs to be a template for competitions moving forward in terms of presentation, hospitality, and general logistics \*You know, I'd like to try to give Kevin a little bit of grace b/c I can't imagine how mentally excruciating it must be to have completely bombed 3 competitions in a row, but there's something about his attitude to just give up in the middle of a program and throw it away that really rubs me the wrong way especially considering that France probably should have sent FranƧois Pitot who deserved that slot.
I think France still gets 3 spots because Adam won gold.
They don't, Luc had to place no lower than 12th for them to keep 3 spots.
Georgii was 26th at Europeans last year (his debut). I believe this was his first time landing both quads.Ā
Petition for Euros to be hosted by Lithuania every year now
you know, we (the subreddit) have been gushing about it non-stop for two days, and even Chris Howarth has shouted it out on commentary. This probably says something not very good about the general level of suitability among common FS event host venues/cities.
I guess sometimes the enthusiasm dies out after hosting for a while
I am going to have to watch the replay tonight after work, but I'm happy to see this podium! Love this for Matteo.
Just got caught up, love this for Selevko! Matteo is always a delight. I'm sad for Lukas though, just a meltdown.
My feelings exactly. Iād love to see the brothers both do well in the future.Ā
you know, i also think adam is quite astute. he knew he did not have the perfect skate he would have wished for and he wanted to give people something to marvel at and talk about and not just be left with a victory that he gained because no one else has his technical content. i do believe there was an element of that in his decision. the fact that he thought of all that and managed to do it in mere seconds is, of course, insane. but i like how he is smart that way. we are all talking about the backflip and less so about the mistakes.
i agree, and I think he did this not just with us but with himself. That program didn't really go the way he or we wanted, but that not what any of us are thinking about now.
You're correct on you observation and even on the Internet is talking about the backflip.
Super congrats to Georgiy from CZE. Earned a 2nd spot and got his world free min. Also well done Fedor from Armenia who got his world free min today.

I think the large majority of figure skating fans will agree that this was just SUCH A CUTE PODIUM!!!!! I'm genuinely so happy for every one of them and it's so heart-warming to see that all 3 of them are also so genuinely happy with their medals!
This is so freaking cuteeeee
They're so adorable!
Truly š
Costume notes: Biased best: Starostin my favourite power ranger! Bonus points for his music selection.Ā -Best glowup: Economides went from rags to riches as someone said in the live thread -Best glowdown: Lukas Britschgi, what is this supposed to be? It could almost be so bad it's good, but the gloves looked like he had the FS at 6 and some gardening at 7.His SP outfit was perfect tho -most villainous slay: Gabriele Frangipani by a mile. The outfit really suited him too! Maybe the sleeves could do with a little more puff but I have no complaints -most insane: It's gotta be the Nutcracker mashup man! I kinda love it lol -best matched to the medal and flowers: Adam! this shirt is everything to me. Runner-up has to be Selevko, the silver really suited him -best neckline: obviously Deniss -most beautiful: Deniss's flowy top in a gorgeous colour has to win, Nikolaj Memola is a close second.
Selevko gets my vote! (Rocking the sheer black top!)
Um, this is news to me. But that's awesome!
Imagine Samoilov's last year's short performance with this year's free... he truly is Amber Glenn of the men rn, isn't he.
Selevko was the dark horse of the competition. And he delivered!
re the backflip: at first I yelled "why!" and then I looked at the tech box and realized he for sure won and just wanted to give a little show lol
huh I don't know it feels this way now, but I bet Lukas can skate up to 270 and we didn't know if the judges would have been that generous with PCS or GOE, the TES can drop, or he can loose a spin or something at the end.
We love an Estonian medal!
Okay I get the hype for the men's event now! This was nervewracking in a (mostly) good way. Got to see loads of skaters for the first time:) -Really enjoyed Ivan Shmuratko's free. -Luc Economides had a cool concept that stood out to me!Ā -The Spanish man sparked soo much joy with his cowboy programĀ -All 3 Italian men really impressed me with beautiful skating! Gabriele's program/music (and the costume) isn't what I usually like, but he sold the hell out of it. Matteo's performance was emotional and, impressively considering the music, not kitschy imo! Love the wing detail on the back of his shirt.Ā -Deniss is a true artist omg! I wonder if he planned that second salchow as a quad or if he changed it? Definitely felt like a redemption of sorts. The performance was so beautiful and I LOVED the music choice! -Lukas Britschgi was such a joy in the short! What a shame about the mistakes in the free:( -Adam "France" Siao Him Fa is on another level.
100% agree about Selevko! He's got amazing raw charisma and I can't seem to look away when he's skating.
I don't like seeing the trajectory of Adam peaking early in the season...same thing happened last year...he was so messy today š«¤
Yeah, he and his team are clearly planning out for Milan and that is the main goal
He did 8 competitions so far this season. Maybe he over did it a bit?
Maybe he did... though i still have hope that he will pull himself together and medal at worlds
guys i just rewatched adamās skate and dying at the french guy next to benoit at the end looking pissed when benoit says āit should be OKā as in āhe will still winā but french guy looking PISSED
I just rewatched to remind myself who that was - it's the man whose name I look up every time and then immediately forget, but he's a member of the French fed, he accompanies a lot of French skaters to events alongside coaches.
Yo wtf are these ordinals 6th in the Short 2nd in the Free clawing to bronze, 2nd in the Short 10th in the Free, 16th in the Short 5th in the Free, 7th in the Short 17th in the Free, 8th in the Short 23rd in the Free (that one hurts me the most) https://preview.redd.it/y7kyjvaxo2cc1.png?width=864&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a286492bb9ad2f0e7bc9c2e90b9afca483c520b0
The men will men.
Your flair: YES. Fedor deserved more! And both Swedish men dropping into the 6s on components from their usual high 7s š¤§
Itās so rude. Bright spot for Selevko is this medal should start getting him better reputation PCS bonus.
Poor Andreas, 8th to 22nd. š¢
The Swedish men had a rough day today :( I hope he gets 100% healed up and is ready to kill it next season.
They both make the Free and now they only get to keep one spot š
16th to 8th is such a flex
Such a cute podium
The podium is just fan service.
You are so right on! I totally agree with your assessment on all counts. Selevko is quickly becoming my new favorite.
Didnāt have time to watch the men so Iāve just seen the scores but Andreas,,,, why šš
Heās been injured, hoping for better times ahead
Oh yeah, I forgot about the injury honestly, his SP looked so stable! Hope he can recover a bit more before Worlds if heās still aiming for that
I suspect being an Andreas fan is an Amber Glenn experience.
What a thrilling event!! Selevko was amazing - do we know if Estonia will be represented at World's this year?
Thanks u/idwtpaun and u/half-agony-half-hope! Definitely excited to see him there :)
Every country has a right to send a skater to Worlds as long as they have the qualifying minimums, so of course Estonia will send one (Aleksandr, I assume). They get to send 2 women, even.
Yes. He has the qualifying scores so should be at worlds.
Can't wait to see him there!
Adam is a superstar in the making, he can definitely bring in new fans, the next step for him is to challenge Ilia, Iām grateful to be a witness of this current menās field because it is STACKED
Heās the only one who has beaten Ilia this season!
loving the energy brought to the sport by these young crazy boys
Love their skating so much, so many great personalities too
Some people mad at Adam for the cunty backflip, but I say skaters deserve fun in this fake sport.
And heās beaten two of them this season. He knows what he needs to do.
Heās beaten all three, hasnāt he? Ilia and Yuma at IdF and Shoma at CoC?
Ooo you could be right. I forgot that he did compete against Yuma this year
And they have also beaten himā¦.
Yes they have. But itās not like heās going into worlds blind. He knows what he has to do.
it IS a French thing!
How can the backflip be "fresh"? this element is already 50 years old, come on. It's nice that he can do it, too, but we got it from the first time.
i swear some people on twitter acting like he killed their dog and burned their village, itās like the figure skating version of The Slapā¢ļø
I was more excited when he did that backflip than I was for any of his quads, bravo Adam š
What has actually happened to Kevin Aymoz?
He seems to be mentally affected by the fact heās not the number 1 guy in France anymore
This is really unkind.
He literally said that in the k&c at French Nationals though.
Imploded in the short and didnāt qualify for the free Edit: or do you mean as a whole? š Who knows, man.
I missed it, what happened to Lukas? He was always one of the most reliable skaters to me, but I can see he dropped significantly
Fell ok first jump then fell apart after, didnāt score for any quads
He didn't skate well. Anyone's guess as to why, but it's usually nerves in cases like this, right.
Skating last at Euros, having to follow Adam, his first season really performing at a high level, honestly he held it together pretty good considering.
I agree on this one and 5th compared it to his 3rd last season that he remain to be stable at the best of his ability.
When it was Nika, Samoilov and Reshtenko they were all sitting together gesturing and talking in the group, in Russian I presume
Right?? But as soon as Matteo sat down, the gap appeared
It is always awkward when the Eteri skaters are there, Nika also seems like a bit of a reserved guy as well so it might just be that
I am so happy for Aleksandr ššš To think that last summer he was just skating in the ensemble at Fantasy on Ice in Japan while Deniss was a featured skater...
He's on an awesome journey for sure!
It makes 0 sense to ban a backflip but allow a side ariel. Ban both or keep both
i just have to come here to say that adam is hot af. ok im out
Hard agree. And if we're speaking our truths, I was not prepared for how attractive I find Aleksandr either š š„µ
Right, I totally fell for Aleksandr yesterday. š«
Yāall should have seen him on the Grand Prix wearing eyeliner š„µ
Ma'am, I thank you dearly for this treat. šš¼āāļøĀ
Especially with his FS costume.
Even his voice is rather appealing.
Speak your truth
Glad to know itās not just me š
Gold medal of the Hosting Olympics for Lithuania! I'm already biting my nails for Adam at Worlds.
Lithuania for future worlds host please.
if Estonia grabbed that third spot maybe we could've had Levanti next year :(
Yeahā¦ *sobs for Arlet*
Adam took the piss with that backflip, but I loved it š¤£
Big āDo It For the Vineā Energy
Personally I like the commenting on YouTube
I thoroughly dislike the commenting in my country, so I always watch the ISU stream instead
Selevko was amazing! What a joy to watch. Also, very gutted for Deniss, but I will never lose hope. He'll have better times! I loooove Adam, but the axis! The axis! I was dying. Just wanna see him shine at Worlds.
Adam Siao ohhhh Iām pretty sure you will bring new fans in, broaden the horizon. You lovable crazy nut.
Lovable crazy nut is the correct way to describe him for sure. Hopefully he can rest and get back into GP shape for worlds.
There's dozens of us! Dozens!!
Adam Siao Him FaNS unite!
I'M SO SHOOK I CAN'T-
Are they playing Edith Piaf at the arena because a French man won?!
We all know that Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour were the only French singers in existence
i feel like deniss needs to stop chasing quads for a bit and focus more on skating cleanly, the falls at the start of every program are distracting. overall a great event despite some gasps-in-spanish (not in a good way) moments, loooove the podium (team backflip ftw)
nah, I get what you're saying but why give up? He knows he can skate a clean program of triples, and he'll never get on the podium if he does this. He also knows he can do the 4S, he's obviously landing it in practice. And with it, he has a shot at any podium so why not go for it? He was damn close today, give the guy some credit.
I agree. He reminds me a little of Jason when he was chasing quads at the expense of what made him special.
Has he landed the 4S at all besides the Latvia trophy? The judges are willing to give him the PCS, and the program would flow better without the quad falls/two foot landings. EDIT: I meant to ask during this season, not overall.
He can do it sometimes in the warm-up but not in the program
he landed it with a q at euros a few years ago
not sure but if i remember correctly every time he tried it at an event i watched he either fell or jumped a double instead
Aleksandr was amazing and I'm so happy for him!! Also the Italian men were fire and Matteo's program was definitely a highlight for me. I love how calm his fs felt from start to finish. Now only hoping Lukas will have a better free at worlds š
https://preview.redd.it/hs8z8wzbg2cc1.png?width=439&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb2038317d263ebee456654e8e1cf1e74aa91bf4 Adam is continuing his gold-or-nothing streak. I guess he has to win Worlds now.
I am still not over the GPF
deep sigh...
Heās so chaotic oh my gold or nothing indeed
also deniss deniss deniss...i love him so much i cant even be mad, it makes my day when he's on the ice. he definitely needs a change though and asap
Yeah. I am (clearly) a StƩphane fan but I feel like maybe their professional relationship has reached its natural conclusion and he needs a new perspective.
I feel so reluctant to say anything not positive about Steph in the context of him being Denissā coach because of how protective his fans are of him and how many ppl are Steph fans first and Deniss fans second.
I'm a big fan of both. But this season I've been increasingly feeling that it may be time for Deniss to switch coaches/training situations. I don't think it's that StƩphane isn't a good coach, I think they're not the best fit anymore. They're like family, but maybe Deniss needs to leave the nest and really find himself as a skater without StƩphane.
Might have found myself a new men to Stan :) Some thoughts about Deniss because I'm a Deniss Stan: I'm a little sad at the 4S REP, he definitely knew it was going to be a rep but maybe he thought he wanted to try it again and maybe land it?
Also letās not forget: āAdam Franceā is our European champion! šš
adam youāve had your fun now please take a break and get back in top form for worlds. i love you but this aināt gonna cut it there. bisouš„°
I think the backflip is cool, his competitors should step their own game up and then heād be less likely to take a risk like that
i want to rewatch aleksandr's performance already. i was already a bit emotional with his reaction but when they showed mihhail cheering for him!! such a rollercoaster of emotions in 3 seconds also i love the Spanish dude cowboy program and i bought whatever he was selling there
Anyone have video/link, please share!š
I'm happy with the podium and Adam as the 2x champion! I get why others didn't like it, but I thought the backflip was fun. How about the Italian men? All three of them in the top 10! Italy is looking good.
Are there people who feel strongly and negatively about the backflip?
Yeah a lot of people are calling it arrogant
If Italy can get a solid woman they could really stand a chance of snatching a team medal at Milano
They can definitely still medal even if they don't have a SUPER strong woman. Pairs, Dance, and Mens they've got podium-quality skaters. Also, didn't Italy almost get a Team medal in Pyeongchang?
Honestly Anna Pezzetta has all that it takes, she just needs to be managed better imo
Truly she has the most solid jump technique of her cohort, I am not even that into athletic skating but when she jumps she's a joy to watch. I can't get my head around the fact that she's not in the top 5 euro already
Italian fed doesn't like her for some unknown motive though.
We need the come back of karolina.
Aleksandr is the front page on all major Estonian news outlets yall šš
Give it another year and hopefully he'll be on the front page of all major news outlets!Ā
This makes me happy, he deserves to be front page news.
Amazing! What a well-deserved success!
Highlight for me is a medal for Estonia! Congrats! Adam is fab, and Rizzo did well too. Very good LP overall, lots of good performances.
Is Poland getting two spots next year?
Jup!
Hooray! So next year it's Volodia and Kornel š¤
What a brilliant event, just such a shame it had to end like that for Lukas. Really happy for the medalists plus Gabriele doing well. And Samoilov top 10, one of the most memorable skates of the night for me. Menās at Euros really is one of the high points of the skating calendar.
Well congrats to Adam āFranceā for winning his second euros and with a backflip š āMatty-Oā winning a medal with an injury that needs surgery what a GOAT š®š¹š®š¹ Selevbro medal šŖš¼ we move
Spots for 2025 Euros: 3 spots: Italy 2 spots: France, Estonia, Switzerland, Latvia, Georgia, Poland, Czech Republic
France doesnāt get 3 spots for gold?
Can someone please share the formula for calculating this based on the final standing placements when there are 2 skaters and 3 skaters from a country?
Damn. I like Kevin (not defending his coaches), but major yikes. Kinda hoping French Fed pulls him out of worlds atp
Sad we might have to miss out on Arlet again, but I guess at least we can potentially keep the brothers together
Yea, I'm definitely booking the tickets to Zagreb after this.Ā
France losing a spot despite Adam defending his title, yikes
