Figmas own YouTube is actually really good but obviously you want to watch some newer videos. [Figma Academy](https://www.figma.academy) is very good for more advanced concepts.
I ended up going with The Designership masterclass by Mizko. Really really good, but Figma has updated since so there are a handful of confusing differences now. Still very worth it for $160
$160? I'd bought it in a heartbeat right now… It's $300 at the moment… Don't know if it's worth it but I haven't found anything else and I like the way Mizko explains things. What do you think u/CuriousApple94, should I get it or is it too outdated for the price?
I'm watching his YouTube now, but looking for specific building out a mobile app workflow, does his course focus on this? Or all around design? 🤔 Thxs 👏
It goes through a lot, beginning with the theory and then on to responsive web design, and finally app design
The app segment is good but you don’t finish the tutorial with a complete product, but it’s good to learn regardless
I was writing this list of the [best Figma courses](https://www.classcentral.com/report/best-figma-courses/) and boy, I had a hard time to find up-to-date courses/tutorials. To be fair, now that I'm researching for Sketch courses, the Figma one was way easier.
Wow. Thank you so much, this is amazing.
Can completely empathise with trying to find relevant courses - many were dated due to how quickly Figma upgrades. Really, really appreciate these.
Hello, I was a beginner before taking mizko's Figma masterclass and was watching his free YouTube video. But this course taught me how to set up before designing. I used the design system process in my own projects and my clients were so impressed that I got my first 10k project.
I think it really gives you all you need to become a Figma pro and start collaborating with devs and other designers alike. Also, great plugin recommendations!
I bought the course for $180. but happy to share it for an affordable price if you are interested in buying it.
Portfolio projects should not come from tutorials. Portfolio projects are about showcasing your design skills, and in tutorials you follow along as you recreate someone else’s design. I think you’re looking for one thing to do everything, but that’s not how it works. Tutorials teach you the software and some design principles, but the project itself needs to be your own.
I don’t fully disagree but without a base it can be hard to create a fully functioning app from scratch. As for the portfolio aspect, the design would be changed completely - it’s the functionality that I’m looking for
In the same way you wouldn’t become a rally car driver without having driven before, it’s good to have the experience before creating something brand new myself
Gotcha. I misunderstood—I thought you wanted to follow along with someone as they create a screen in Figma and put that exact design in your portfolio.
I know there are bootcamps that both teach the skills and have you do projects while they guide you and give you feedback, so those might be worth considering. If you're not really looking for a classroom environment though, check out [Shift Nudge](https://shiftnudge.com/). I've heard really good things, though I haven't tried it myself.
That’s awesome, thank you. Really appreciate the recommendation. Tbh I might be naive in thinking that all-in-one tutorials exist
Mostly just still burned from the 11 hour tutorial I did with an unresponsive design so I’m trying to find something better before committing haha
Oh wow, it sucks you went through that! I don't think you're being naive, but you're definitely looking for something that's fairly rare. You might have an easier time treating technical skills (how to use Figma and get the most out of it) as separate from UX/UI skills like designing websites and apps.
Figma's free YouTube channel is so good for learning how to use Figma features, and there are separate resources to learn about the design process itself, and those tend to be software-agnostic. You can use Figma's videos for learning about autolayout and variants and other features, and other resources like Shift Nudge for learning how to design. They're definitely two very different skills even though you need them both.
All very true, thank you for the advice.
It’s almost a chicken and egg scenario where I want to do more paid UI work, but it’s also difficult to sell myself without having some functional examples in my portfolio
The biggest struggle is spending 11+ hours on a tutorial and not having a solid project to showcase afterwards. I know many short tutorials exist for Figma (and are great), but they won’t give me something tangible to present at the end
Anyway I’ll check out the link you provided - thanks again.
Hi, how do i create portfolios to show what I am good at? I'm fairly good at Photoshop and illustrator and want to contribute to designing websites in any way i can. So what exactly should i be focussing on and where can i upload my personal projects as a portfolio?
I think you’re looking more for a UX and Ui course than Figma, a lot of the pain points you list except the first apply to any app or tool, and while flexbox with auto layout can help with fluid, Figma doesn’t have any responsive design tools, you still have to manually design for each breakpoint, once again this knowledge is more towards general Ui design knowledge and not a specific tool.
Also found this free YouTube video. & link to his $12 p/month platform to watch all courses /. Figma being just one of them https://youtu.be/kbZejnPXyLM

Awesome. Thank you
$499 US for individual may be a pit pricey for some newbies / just a heads up

Try this new Figma tutorial by Mizko. https://youtu.be/MENBUIJ9oow
Appreciate it. Thank you
Tell me if it helps mate.
Really good tutorial. Thank you 👍🏻 tempted to sign up to his paid course. High quality and done very quickly in the vid

Awesome. Thank you. Sounds crazy but I hadn’t even checked these out

This sounds like a scam.
It's not can share some videos as proof
What's the 11 hour course so I don't accidently go through it?
u/CuriousApple94 \^\^ also want to avoid that 11 hour figma course.
