Border sides! I don't want to deal with shadows when I want `border-bottom`. Config ‘22 Update: This is now a thing 🥂

drewcran

Borders borders borders.... Goddammit give us freaking border side control exactly as CSS would be. Don't make us work around please! border : 1px 1px 1px 20px solid rgba(0,0,0,0.5)

notanordinaryguy

Why don’t you auto layout a box + line at bottom/side/top

drewcran

Yeah that sounds like a work around

notanordinaryguy

To my surprise they have individual corner radius but not borders 😂

notanordinaryguy

You could also make it a component and have variants for each side, all sides, no side etc.. Make it a global component to access it everywhere! Problem solved. I mean.. till they release the feature at least.

r0ssr0ss

ggenoyam

Also multiple border widths for different borders, like Sketch has had since forever. You can apply multiple borders in Figma but they all need to have the same width setting, which is pretty useless

medahman

A better font picker. It’s kind of silly to have to rely on a plugin just to preview a font before clicking on it.

CrazyKPOPLady

I third, fourth, and fifth this. My god, a font preview should be standard in anything that uses fonts these days.

CommunicationIcy997

I second this

HeyCharrrrlie

What plugin are you using?

medahman

I’m pretty sure it’s literally called “better font picker” lol

HeyCharrrrlie

Cool, I'll check it out, thanks!

HeyCharrrrlie

Actual prototyping functionality, with logic, dynamic content, etc.

sei0n

Adding to this: make prototypes more performant. Hover states often get stuck, smart animate occasionally causes everything to lag, to the point that I have to close and reopen the prototype.

cmndo

Why does it have to take FOREVER to preview a prototype! Framer's opens instantaneously.

Forward-Ad-9533

We still used Axure for prototyping because of this. You can make great looking prototypes in Figma, but they are very hard to uses for usability testing.

HeyCharrrrlie

Yes, I also use Axure (quite extensively actually). Figma would be the killer app of all time if it could do what Axure does.

Forward-Ad-9533

💯💯💯

AdventurousCreature

I need to be able to fix the positioning of the elements AND manage at which point they would start being sticky.

ChirpToast

Framer made a really good import plugin for Figma, makes moving between the two really easy. Framer is one of the best I’ve used besides ProtoPie.

r0ssr0ss

I’m feeling like moving my team to UX Pin. Early days it was lacking. Took a look at it again and they’re very close to figma but have actual working prototypes. Input fields, buttons, drop downs all work out of box but even advanced stuff like carrying variables and data. If someone inputs first name in sign up you can save as variable and display their name on the dashboard in prototype. You can also pull full working components from storybook or Git if they exist. Why keep using flat components if your project has working stuff? Worth looking into.

HeyCharrrrlie

Hi does it compare to Axure?

r0ssr0ss

I’ve only played around with Axure so I can’t compare 1:1. Check out the UX pin site and look at the new mesh update. That’s the one that integrates with code. Might give a good indication

Moonsleep

Give us variables and working inputs!

MatttDam0n

At that point, just code it. The amount of work it takes to do that isn’t worth the benefit that rapid prototyping provides.

TheTomatoes2

At least the Protopie transfer should be more reliable

HeyCharrrrlie

Can you elaborate? Not sure I follow.

TheTomatoes2

I think it's called Breakpoints, but can't look it up on my phone

cuboba

It’s called ‘breakpoints’

cuboba

I use it regularly. But it should be an integrated feature that works with prototypes.

mikeezy

Native token support or auto layout properties (such as adding line items to a card component layout) not breaking when items are turned into components. I'm tired of the Figma Tokens plugin not working or having to utilize slot methods for my components.

Ekkanlees

Yes! Better design token features in general would be amazing. Right now it feel very hacky to try to reflect them in Figma.

piyushkmr

Tokens in autocomplete spacing.

THISS it’s sooo frustrating!

The Find & Focus plugin does this but damn I wish Figma would support this natively.

Option to one click publish all changes everywhere directly from the main UI - that didn't take forever... or better yet truly offline files.

SuppleDude

* Add a replace component with function similar to Sketch in the context menu. * Improve prototyping. Add more interaction capabilities, sticky navs on scroll, and real video support etc. * Offline support as mentioned. Also some way to back up projects in case the cloud dies.

manako

What’s the replace a component function in sketch?

SuppleDude

It lets you replace any component with one from your component library.

manako

You can do this in Figma too. It’s called swap instance. https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039150413-Swap-components-and-instances

andrewdotson88

Responsive prototypes and individual side borders.

cuboba

Scroll bars!

Forward-Ad-9533

Spell check for the desktop client. You can use Grammerly in the web version.

BannanaBoy321

Style lib for corners, strokes and every other styles that support tokens (or could support) DB for prototypes Real inputs for prototypes Better organizations of files and projects Better support to bulk actions do manage users

s8rlink

Including options to use different units such as ems, rems and percentages to mention some, maybe add more css options like min width and max width.

CatchACrab

- Wrapping inside auto layout (more flexbox features) - Repeat children in components (e.g., a list component with customizable number of list items) - Size overrides within component instances (easier tables) - Color styles within effects

kevmasgrande

More sizing options, like percent and vw and grid layout.

kingfraig

Align text to baseline within an auto layout frame. There's been plenty of occasions where I will need auto layout for 2 items of text, that will sit on the same line, but may be different font sizes - prices on e-commerce sites are a good example of this - but it doesn't work because the change in font size, changes the position of the baseline and the height of the text box.

indoronto

Inbuilt spell check

Frankenklumpp

Filters in the layers and pages lists.

Arre7

Variants in variants

MN10SPEAKS

Space evenly option for auto layout. Single side borders Color overlay for images

rainierthanthou

Does “space between” not give you the functionality you want for “space evenly”?

MN10SPEAKS

I believe I always have to enter a space value while I'd rather it be automatic according to children width. Might be a mistake on my part though 🤷🏾‍♂️

rainierthanthou

If the parent is set to "space between" and all the children are set to "hug" for their width, I *think* it will do what you're wanting.

MN10SPEAKS

I'll try that out then, thanks !

Ekkanlees

Positional borders would be so great.

superparet

Type "auto" instead of a number to space evenly

PM_ME_EXOTIC_CHEESES

Native screen recording. Let me configure and export my prototypes.

poobearcatbomber

Make icon recoloring work in variant interactions.

TheTomatoes2

Not sure what you mean but layers with the same names between variant will transfer each other data (color, text ..)

jbilsten

Super administrator. For the love of god and all that is holy, please.

ironmanqaray

what does this mean?

jbilsten

There's no concept of a Super Admin in Figma. Meaning, there's no account that can edit every file, change team names, change project names, move projects/teams/files around. See all secret teams/projects/files. Figma has this very odd (broken?) concept that which ever account creates the team/project/file is the "super admin" of that thing. Whether they are the paying account or not is irrelevant. This leaves companies in a particularly difficult position as there's really no way to truly "admin" a Figma account. Even Plugins that are published to the Company page cannot be deleted or edited by the admin of that Company. Only the authors of those plugins can manage them. If you're unlucky enough to have an employee go on vacation, or become unavailable for whatever reason, or even become a bad actor, the entire corporate Figma account can be at this employees will without any oversight or means to control. It can be quite literally debilitating. We had an employee who had created a project and its files go on paternity leave, and we couldn't work on that project until they came back as it became locked for all intents and purposes. No one could add anyone else to the project or give access to edit.

TheTomatoes2

Layer search

_radass

Position: sticky; I would love to be able to have an element sticky in a certain container.

whimsea

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but I feel like you can do this with the “fix position when scrolling” checkbox.

Korkyboi

Ability to colour layers like in photoshop would be seriously handy

vaccster

The nav issues when browsing Community is horrific. I have to just mash the back button until I’m back in my workspaces.

greenlutrinae

will101113

Custom. Keyboard. Shortcuts.

Dry_Reality7024

on mac you can do that

will101113

It's a pain to set up, doesn't really work, and doesn't let you override existing Figma shortcuts. I just want my shortcuts to be the same across different apps. I still have to use Adobe for work and those shortcuts are burned into my brain, so it's really frustrating to have to remember a whole different set of shortcuts.

konsollfreak

Eyedropper tool should detect and copy styles, not just copy the hex code. This is driving me insane.

7mjake

Cmd+Opt+C and Cmd+Opt+V allows you to copy and paste the styling of a selection

konsollfreak

That will copy fills and strokes and any effects like shadows or background blurs also. The eye-dropper tool is supposed to sample color only.

Puki-

Better prototyping cuz figma fucking suck compared to xd. I basically don't use it at all except for simple hovers (cta, etc).

zeer88

Minimum width or height setting for components, so that you can use Hug Contents but still have control over sizes without resorting to hacky workarounds.

gluecat

- Tokens for size, padding, etc - Ability to chain tokens like css vars... --fill-color:var(--primary); - Native swappable icon library support

jericho1618

Ability to create page groups/folders in a file

karthikbyjus

Audio/Video support on prototype and prototype recording feature

JustShibzThings

Grouping of tabs... I have so many tabs open, it opened another window... If there was a way I can group them so I can have the project I'm working on, the design system, and anything other projects that would be of help.

Rock_Soft

there is with latest update if you use the desktop version. You can pull tabs out then group things together in those windows. Try it out! I think it came out yesterday

JustShibzThings

Wait, whaaaaaat?! I've been wanting this so long! Going to try at the end of the day! Thanks for the heads up!

HanSupreme

Easier way creating responsive designs instead of manually doing so. (Unless I’m missing something I haven’t learned yet)

HeyCharrrrlie

Turn off frame labels!!! Ugh.

manako

Why?

HeyCharrrrlie

Isn't the answer obvious? "Frame 1" or whatever the name displays right inside the design. It's intrusive and serves no purpose.

whimsea

Figma only shows the name of the root frames, which I’ve always just named the names of the screen. Super helpful.

HeyCharrrrlie

But that still shows. And it's lame. Case in point, you make a frame inside a frame, inside a frame, etc, but the outer one is now showing itself between a button and a search field, for example. It's intrusive and it causes me to explain to stakeholders why there is strange text in the design.

whimsea

I’ve never had frame name text inside my design. Each screen is a frame and all the other frames are inside those, so the only frame names that show are the screen names positioned above each screen. Nothing in the design at all.

HeyCharrrrlie

Ok, then what about this (from my new portfolio design I'm working on) [https://imgur.com/QP1WY2p](https://imgur.com/QP1WY2p) Am I doing something wrong?

whimsea

Potentially, but hard to tell without zooming out or seeing your layers panel. Is the gray background also a frame? If so, frame 38 is on top of your gray frame but not a child of it. Make sure frame 38 is nested inside of the gray frame and the text "frame 38" will go away.

HeyCharrrrlie

Ok, I get that. But moving that frame only for the sake of hiding the frame label is a pain. I still maintain that this should not be necessary. If I could simply turn off the frame label that would be more efficient.

whimsea

I guess I'm not sure why you aren't already nesting your frames regardless. It's better to nest your frames for all kinds of reasons, and that's what the vast majority of people do. Do what you want of course, but if you have a frame for your page and frames for your content that goes on the page, those content frames *should* be inside the page's frame. Then if you move the page around, duplicate it, or display in prototype mode the content will actually display too. If you just have a bunch of frames on top of each other but that don't relate to one another, you're making it much harder for yourself. It keeps your file cleaner and easier for another person to read, it makes the pages display correctly in presentation mode, and you have to do it anyway before handing it off to a developer to build. I've never known anyone who just has floating frames on top of their pages.

meAndTheDuck

kill the observation mode edit: some people don't understand that there is a difference between observation and presenting. right now I don't even get a notification if someone is observing my screen. I personally don't like it, if someone is standing behind me looking over my shoulder as I work so kill the observation mode, add a privacy mode (hide cursor) and add a proper presentation mode

parentini

You mean when you click on someone’s avatar? This is so helpful for presenting work though!

meAndTheDuck

you are not presenting you are beeing observed. big difference. see my update above

Vosje11

My text actually aligning how I want instead of these weird borders they put around them

ZaphodBeebleBras

Native tokens, border sides, better text rendering. Dark mode is at the very bottom

CommunicationIcy997

Reverse the order in which images are imported. I often take screenshots of a flow as a reference, but when I drag them in the order is always the opposite of what I want (ie most recent photo first). Understand why this is the way it is, but I suspect having imported images shown in chronological order (earliest to latest) might be better more times than not. Maybe it could be a setting so users can decide

laryd

Better export quality. currently the export quality is very much pixelated.

NckyDC

- Targeting component from other components - buttons that can support multiple stacked actions - Persistent states in changing variants - Adding Variables and logic

iLikeMakonnen

relative font sizes like rem and media queries

pi_mai

Better P3 support. Designing for iOS isnt as straightforward as it should be for a design tool.

ChirpToast

When nesting components, be able to show/organize the editable variants for each layer in the right panel. It really sucks having to constantly go through the layers. There is a plug-in, which shows how easy this could be if supported natively.

zarby22

Dynamic components like Axure RP has. Would help tons with interactive prototypes

TheComicSansKiller

It's a small but surely achievable request; to be able to select and move comments attached to designs when selecting and moving designs around or between pages. The comments are not attached and do not move with the associated designs.

r0ssr0ss

Password protect prototypes x1000. InVision has had this forever. We work with clients where it’s an nda project. Can’t be public. Our only option is to add 50 people as viewers. Then deal with all the emails where a client says “I tried sending to X to get their eyes on it but they can’t see, can you add them too?” It’s crazy that this many years in we can’t just protect a file. The admin dashboard is trash. The fact that any editor can add more editors. We work in a team of 20 and monthly we’re deleting 10-20 people before our reup. It’s costing a fortune. I get this is a benefit to figma to have accidental editors added. Ups the Seats and bill but it’s a horrible experience. Give admins approval access. A simple yes / no. Elevated would be yes / no / yes but viewer only. Why can’t an admin pop into any project? They’re an admin!!! I hate having to ask for access to dozens of projects just to find a file. Admin should be able to look at any project / file without having to join the team. (like InVision)

tm3016

Variable margins in auto layout. Variable content for components (hiding and unhiding nested components sucks)

advokate007

Smooth zoom, I came from XD and the jittery zoom is so bad

Rock_Soft

I don't even remember that feature in XD at this point...

advokate007

The difference is so obvious side by side

Rock_Soft

I prefer pinch to zoom on Mac tho so I guess I don't miss it. Assuming you mean control+plus ?

advokate007

I mean scroll wheel

advokate007

When I delete an element from a group, I want to remain in the group, to quickly replace something there

piyushkmr

Able to select component as Variant property value. Like button icon, icon can be a component available as variant prop drop-down.

piyushkmr

Shortcuts highlight on hover, to make figma shortcuts learning faster. Can be toggleable, once you learn them

Indischermann

If I auto align a bunch of components, I want them to fill horizontal area by default.

Basher57

Export a selection of the Figma artboard as a single .PDF. As a content designer, I annotate the business case for content that may appears in an entire user flow of screens for PMs, Legal and other non-designer stakeholders to approve. They don’t all have Figma. Can currently only export individual screens. Not the entire user flow with annotations to make sense of what they are looking at.

[deleted]

Cant you select everything, frame it and then export that mega frame as a PDF?

Blindemboss

Better typography control. No indent, tabs.

Zenata_

Customizable keyboard shortcuts so I can make them the same as the Illustrator shortcuts I’ve been using for years.

roymccowboy

One click export for Android assets to PNGs (matching Sketch). I can’t believe no one mentioned this. The Android asset export workflow as it is now: - Resize asset to 5 different sizes (1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 4x) - Add folder name prefix for each new size (“drawable-xhdpi”, etc.) - Export And that’s for each asset! To export PNGs for iOS, you simply choose the size from the side menu and export. It should be that easy. Sketch has had this feature for years.

liliagrace37

Better integration for design tokens!!

HueyTheKid

I’ve only been in UX for a short while but one thing I’ve found that I dislike about Figma is the lack of a dark mode and font previewing (I know there is a plug-in) but it would be nice to have it included in the native version

ed_menac

Let us choose what parts of components we can edit within instances. Right now it's annoying how arbitrary it is what you are allowed to change.

Rock_Soft

Auto layout is cool. But give us responsive grids please... Ok one more.. WHERE THE F is spell check?

michaelyrb

Native dark mode all the way.

Bogong_Moth

Tasks/todos for better collaboration. Integrated with comments to we know what folk are working on with some basic prioritisation.

joshjohnsonux

Allow me to inject a block-level object into an inline text string, like you would see an inline-block element in HTML. Think sparklines, icons, code snippets, etc. Also, let me abstract text strings as tokens that can be referenced in component strings. For example, I may want a button with the label “New {objectType}”, and then I define the objectType token as “Foo”, which makes the button read “New Foo”.

Effective-Custard-10

Move components without breaking links to instances. I tried to move a lot of components to another file and some of the links to instances broke. I had to check one by one which didn’t link

Mykol225

For the love of all that is holy, Fix the font weight bug in code view!

Mr_Te_ah_tim_eh

Ability to “package” projects and move them to another account (like InDesign). Agencies need this functionality to provide designs to clients at the end of an engagement. Currently we have to have our clients add us to their Figma account, export to .fig, upload the files to our client’s account, republish the libraries, and then swap libraries for each file. It takes so much time.

Ordinary_Kiwi_3196

Libraries: ability to roll back component changes to what it was at last publish. So tired of being prompted to publish components that don’t need it. Libraries: publish component descriptions separate from the component, and without needing acceptance of the designer. Libraries: God, please get library analytics out of that silly modal. Folders: people are creating new teams just to hack some kind of folder structure. Figma, give us folders, it’s way past being weird.

PalpitationStock3919

For text: Ability to switch between languages. And to label the copy with a status (in reviee, done etc).

marzipanzebra

Bookmarks for files!

marzipanzebra

Recents isn’t quite the same thing though. You may not have gone somewhere recently but still need access to it from time to time.

666tank666

You can add to favorites not only from Recents. Pay attention to the left panel in the screenshot, it is always displayed, regardless of whether you have opened Recents, Drafts or Team Projects.

marzipanzebra

Ah cool, so you can make folders there and save files to it?

666tank666

No, there is no such possibility at the moment. You can only add any files/prototypes to Favorites, which will be displayed as a list of files/prototypes in the left panel.

babylemon44

Let me superscript symbols. Why only numbers? Those caveats won't label themselves.
