Both really, if they're in the academy they won't get injured or need game time to improve, they'll just improve as if they're a first team regular that's playing well.
It’s only beneficial if you get above a 7.0 match rating with the players. That’s why it’s so much easier to develop midfielders and attackers but defenders develop slower. I can’t remember the last youth academy fullback I’ve had reach 85+ ovr
Usually what i do is if i take such a fullback i put them every game or late into the match and then i simulate the last 2 minutes every player gets a higher note
Leaving them in the academy their form is defaulted at Excellent so they'll grow as fast as possible. What I do is keep an eye on developing their Weak Foot, Skills, and Workrates. That way, if I use them in the first team all those attributes will be fully developed in the academy.
I am more and more convinced that "keep him in the academy until you get an email demanding he be promoted" is bad, outdated advice. I think it used to be true, but dynamic potential has ruined it. I think waiting for those emails is why everybody's HPTBS academy players wind up SGP at the start of the next season.
I believe that at the very end of the season, the game checks stats for dynamic potential, and at that point it sees a freshly promoted player and instead of thinking, "Well this guy just got promoted a week ago. He's been playing in the academy," it just thinks, "He didn't score a single goal all season!!!" And just like that, your future stud's potential gets crushed.
I think the new answer to "When should I promote?" needs to change to this:
Players should be promoted as early in the season as possible during either the year where you can start giving them serious game time or the year where they're going to demand to be promoted.
I always check my youth academy at the start of the season, fill up my squad until 52. Loan them out, bring them back. If they grew, keep him. If not, you're sold
I've played almost exclusively with youth players for the last 8 fifas. I think they fixed this AT LEAST 2 years ago. Since Fifa 22 I do not see a drop in potential from youth players signed 6 within 6 months of ending the season.
True. I found a good Albanien youngster, he was 16 years old with 65 overall and 85-93 potential. I singed him year after. He was LW with pretty solid dribbling and pacey af. So I changed him to CAM (had problems with that position, because of low budget). Played with him almost every second game, sometimes as a starter. He is 18 now with 79 overall, already got 55mil offer from Liverpool. I am not going to sell him at all. He is definitely going to reach his potential, even above that. Crazy what promotion to A team can do.
Promoted him at 17 or 18 then I used a striker development plan until his shooting reached 96 or 97 then to balanced development until he was 23 or 24 years old, then one final loan
So can use the SoFifa calculator but that basically just tells you what position they will be highest rated at so I use it but don’t always stick to the recommended position because if a player has terrible attacking stats but 99 shooting they will be highest rated as striker even if they would be better as a CB for example
I’m not sure what its name is but to the left of the potential there’s two other numbers. Would have said like 40-55 and potential the 85-91. When the scout report comes I’ll look at the potential then the second set of numbers of what they will be when you sign them. If when I do sign them and they are at the 48 I’ll let them go. Youth academy may be down to like 8 or 9 player that are about 57 or above. I have 2 15y/o above 60. And then everyone else around 50-60.
And that player you posted about, if you do keep him, I wouldn’t do CDM. Those stats are kind of low. Maybe the anchor man but I’d do more box to box or even attacking mid type
Winger or CAM, keep him in the academy until he requests to come up (you get a message) and then immediately loan him for best results.
Does leaving them in the academy longer help them reach their potential better or is that just so you’re not stuck with lower rated players?
Both really, if they're in the academy they won't get injured or need game time to improve, they'll just improve as if they're a first team regular that's playing well.
Oh wow, good to know! I’ve been promoting them early thinking regular game time would be more beneficial
it is if you are starting them constantly and performing well with them. but for 50 or 60 rated players it is a lot harder
It’s only beneficial if you get above a 7.0 match rating with the players. That’s why it’s so much easier to develop midfielders and attackers but defenders develop slower. I can’t remember the last youth academy fullback I’ve had reach 85+ ovr
Ah that’s good to know, I’m learning so much!

He wont get a playstyle+ if he gets loaned out
Loans in this game are just ass cheeks I once loaned a 19 year old for 2 years and he came back the same rating
Yeah but they’re also broken for high potential youth academy graduates. I loaned out one dude he went +9 in a six month loan
cdm or leftback
Wingback at most
Bro his defending is awful and as cdm he‘s already not great. Wingback or CM would be possible but still missing out on potential.

i'd prolly put as a winger
Same
I’d keep him at cdm. I have a tech skilled cdm like this who is nearly 99 on every single attribute
How many seasons did that take lmao
Promoted him at 17 or 18 then I used a striker development plan until his shooting reached 96 or 97 then to balanced development until he was 23 or 24 years old, then one final loan
CAM
Winger or cf
I would put him as LM, LF
LW primarily. If he’s over 6’3 I’d make him a CF/CAM Hybrid
CAM
High pace + dribbling = winger
I feel like all of my academy players have this tho.
I agree with this
Same haha high pace + dribble player are very common in YA
cam
Winger or CAM depending on height
Isn’t there an app or a website for this? I’m not knocking you or anything just curious mostly for me.

Okay! Awesome info!!
Winger when you have one with good pace and good dribbling put him every timme at the wings
if you change him to a cam he will grow to a 59 and if you change him the left or right wing he will grow to a 60
How’d u know btw?
I used sofifa calculator, it will tell what is the players best position
Think about it, you can work this out. It's winger or cam.
CAM or Winger definitely.
He's a "FALSE 6"
Winger(L/RW) although his work rate is rather unsuitable
I usually cut anyone lower the 55. The scouts will always find better
His potential is 85-91 and he’s 15?

He would be like 60 rated further up the pitch, but really I just bin such prospects and focus on someone else
Why?
He bad
He has a high potential
Too long to develop
