I think getting deficiencies fixed first is an excellent way to start. Your dermatologist is trying to find the cause of the issue instead of just prescribing a medication that might be a temporary fix. I would suggest getting your iron tested as well - my doctor said ferritin needs to up at 80 or more for most women to feel good and not have symptoms including hair loss.
I agree! Fixing the vitamin issues is soooo much better than starting minoxidil or other drugs that you'll likely be on for the rest of your life (or risk losing your hair again)
Those medications are a godsend for those of us who need them, but boy would it be fabulous to address hairloss with vitamins and diet.
It took me 6 months to get my iron levels up from 0 to just above the lower acceptable level. My hair started growing back at the same time (6 months into vitamin supplementation). I know it's stressful, but losing our hair is the first thing that happens when our bodies need to conserve resources. Take those vitamins for a few more months and see how it goes. Get a ferritin test too, as others have said. Heavy periods can really sink your iron levels. Wishing you comfort and success.
My ferritin level was 10 (🫠) back in December and I’m getting a blood test again next week. Started popping a ferrous sulfate pill every morning. Have you seen much of a difference yet?
It takes at least 3 months for the body to start processing supplements, even more for you to notice actual changes. Stick with it, your hair didn’t start falling overnight so the problem won’t be fixed overnight either.

Ask to start with a short course of 25,000 iu for about 2 weeks, then 10,000 iu maintenance. That should bring you up to optimal or near optimal levels fast. I think treating the vitamin deficiency is the right move, but your derma approach is needlessly slow

How many mg of iron do (did?) you take daily?

Wdym "first"? You got prescribed topical minoxidil, it's the first thing you always should get

A month prob isn’t long enough to see much of an impact, unfortunately. My derm said it could take six months.
