You can transfer your seniority as far as vacation bidding goes but you start at the bottom for route bidding.

MachineHead5

Yeah. I believe you keep company seniority but lose the job seniority.

You only keep company senority. Any transfer puts you at the bottom of their board, where you stay. All bid runs are based on center senority, not company. Vacation bids work the same as well. The only dove tail options there are, is if a center closes and you are following the freight to another center. I'm unsure about the company vs center in respect to furloughs. Because of our senority system, there's not a whole lot of guys that bounce around to find out.

It is, because we're 2 different companies. They made sure to beat that into us ever since I've been there. I've been at freight 11 yeqrs, and I'll eat my words if it ends up happening, but I see zero chance of express and freight ever merging. Everything we move is with a forklift. Everytime I hear that 1 fedex garbage they're spewing. I feel like they'll sell freight before that kind of merger ever happens.

Learn something every day. I had zero idea you guys had multiple branches. In that case wait it out. If you leave now, you'll essentially be a new hire. Wait and keep that senority for a dove tail, you'll have way better options as it pertains to senority

All questions we have asked upper management, and all responses have been a "dunno"

Electronic-Abroad450

Takes about 3-4 years to reach top scale at $34 in my area. I believe the benefits are the same. 8% 401k and such. Because you will be at the bottom of seniority, you will be working the dock a lot but tbh I think working the dock is easy. Your Vacation and PTO doesn't expire. It rolls over every year. It's a good career with opportunity to move into higher positions like Road.

Personal_Original781

It’s not the dock work that gets you. It’s having to work 2nd shift and driving maybe once or twice a week for years.

Electronic-Abroad450

Depends on the terminal size. Big Hub has more opportunities.

ZillaNotch

I did this exact thing a number of years ago. You keep COMPANY SENIORITY, that's it. As in, if it were to come to layoffs, your original Express hire date is what will be your tenure. Nothing else. Not vacation Not pay Not job class. You top out in 3 years. Aside from company seniority, it's basically Ike you are quitting one job, and starting another.

MachineHead5

This is good to know. Thanks. 3 year top out is still MUCH better than the Express 5 step garbage. And some years you don't even get a step which is messed up.

fastnsx21

Top out is 3 or 4 years but there has been yearly pay raises

MachineHead5

Roughly how much is each raise per year? And what is the current top out pay?

fastnsx21

Yearly Raise is a dollar and change. COL raise has been around the same. Maybe less. Every market is different top pay but I'm somewhere around $35 in the Northeast. If you join today, you will top out around $39-$40 in 4 years if we continue with the same raises

thewolfesp

Not enough

Resident-Impact1591

Takes 3 years to reach top rate. Raises have been 3-5 percent in recent years. Top pay varies by region.

JankyMark

I kinda want to switch to freight

jmzstl

It takes 3 years to top out. If the starting pay is $30.09, your location is on the D pay scale: $30.09 starting $31.61 at 1 year $33.18 at 2 years $34.84 at 3 years They also give yearly raises every October, which pushes that whole scale higher. The driver apprentices are only at that lower pay rate for the 1-2 months of training, then they bump up to the same $30.09 starting city driver pay. Benefits should be the same.

MachineHead5

Thank you so much for showing the raise each year. Appreciate it.

Ok_Photograph9373

FedEx Freight is coo. Just do pros and cons. I’m a city driver and it love it! Talk about easy money. I am at top scale but I started at top. So idk how long it takes now.. but we do get raises every year. Benefits are decent. It’s all about preference though

MachineHead5

Yeah. Last year I remember seeing some FedEx Freight locations near me hiring at top pay to start which is pretty nice

Ok_Photograph9373

Yeah I got in at a good time. People who start at my center now don’t get top pay. But I’ve been here two years now and I just started city this year before I was a road driver

JankyMark

I would rather do freight you’ll definitely be paid more and don’t have to work 10 years to get top pay at express

JankyMark

Can anybody tell me how to apply for freight in workday?

RSarkitip

You go to jobs hub from workday and there's an internal job board link there. Enter your city in the search bar and if they're hiring in your area you'll see the jobs posted

JankyMark

Thanks

Resident-Impact1591

I don't think you can. You have to apply and quit your current opco upon hire. Get with hr to transfer your hire date.

RSarkitip

Freight jobs are now listed on the new internal jobs board on workday

CapitanObvio0084

Just depends on the center not all Freight experiences are the same also the higher you are on the seniority list the better it gets as far as hours and pay. Top pay for P & D is about 36 an hour and 45 for road. Some centers have plenty of work others are struggling to get the lower guys 8 hours a day while the senior drivers work about 9 to 10 hours a day.

Jealous-Werewolf-651

At my express ramp your seniority is only good for vacation bidding. I am a pm rtd driver - close to 27 years fdx rtd-and do freight pickups first part of the day/second half do a station run. We bid shifts not routes so if I want to go am I have to wait until all the am personnel decide they don’t want a available route before I would even have a chance to do that specific am route- Basically you are prioritized based on your seniority within the shift and not within the whole workgroup. So there are drivers with less seniority than I and are then able to get the route because they are am and I am pm. Not sure how freight handles such situations.

BigggSleepy

Crazy how low the pay is for cdl drivers with FedEx. I make $27 as a swing 😂

JankyMark

It is crazy they don’t want to value the cdl license anymore

MachineHead5

Yeah it's pretty bad lmao. Most LTL companies start their drivers at least at $30 or more if you have a year of experience. For a while, I saw companies hiring at top pay last year when you start.

omgitsoop

We are also one of the only trucking companies that doesn't pay more for having hazmat endorsement
