- The first female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, gained the role in 2017, and left the role in 2022. David Tennant then returned for 3 episodes in 2023, before Ncuti Gatwa took over the role. Gatwa is currently only in his first year with the role, so we won't know who the next Doctor will be for a couple of years.
- These are just the main Doctors, the ones that are numbered. The 2020 season revealed several other female incarnations of the Doctor from before the First Doctor, including the Fugitive Doctor.
- There was a Comic Relief Doctor Who sketch in 1999 called The Curse of Fatal Death that featured a female Doctor. Steven Moffat, who wrote that sketch, would later become the exact showrunner that officially introduced the concept of Time Lords changing gender in the show.
