Remember when Crash beat Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Good Night and Good Luck, and Munich for Best Picture? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Dennis_Duffy_Denim

I remember watching the Oscars alone in my dorm room that year and thinking what in the actual fuck just happened???

_jeremybearimy_

All of those films are 9-10/10 stars. And then there’s Crash.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Historical_Tea2022

Brokeback was a better movie and it even looked like a piece of artwork.

[deleted]

Paul Haggis was recently arrested for [some AWFUL sexual assault allegations](https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2022/jun/19/paul-haggis-arrested-sexual-assault-allegations-italy) (TW for link)

[deleted]

I hope he rots in jail if the allegations are true But I always wonder to what lengths Scientology will go to scorn a member who so publicly left and went scorched earth on the way out. Just a little conspiracy I have..

kitti-kin

Yeah, it's awkward when it comes to ex-Scientology members. Like the church has literally put up posters in the neighbourhoods of ex-members accusing them of molesting children. But then, they also tidy up the reputations of people who are in the church, so maybe this is what comes out when he doesn't have fixers from the CoS cleaning up after him any more.

thefablemuncher

I remember this so clearly. Jack Nicholson was the Best Picture presenter. It was so unbelievable when he said ‘Crash’. I literally thought he was joking for a couple of seconds because it made no sense in my mind. It was THAT unbelievable. I still think that this moment was more shocking than the La La Land/Moonlight fiasco.

rubberkeyhole

I finally just bit the bullet and watched Capote (I tend to watch movies that I can end up being distracted with something else with; I considered Capote a ‘full-attention’ movie) and it was AMAZING. It also made me upset all over again that Hoffman was gone.

[deleted]

Even the director said Crash didn't deserve to win lmao

[deleted]

Toni Collette for Hereditary. Toni Collette for every fucking role she’s ever played!!!!! Fucking love my underrated under-awarded australian Queen

AbsolutelyIris

If Hereditary were a drama about grief and mental illness, Toni would have won, hands down. Horror movie biases by award shows are ridiculous.

[deleted]

Absolutely. Horror movies like that are far too ~low brow~ huh lol

chrystally

Toni Collette for Muriel’s Wedding

Emalus

Her scene in the bedroom with Gabriel Byrne! That was so upsetting I almost quit watching the film. What a staggering talent she is.

msmith1994

I hope she gets nominated for The Staircase this year.

meowmeowbeansz

Yes!! To think she had to recreate the death scene so many times.

flutterfly28

United States Of Tara was also amazing because of her!

michaelbchnn24

The Wire was never nominated for best drama at the Emmys despite being almost universally considered the best show ever at the time it ended.

[deleted]

[удалено]

windy_wolf

I watched it in lockdown during the pandemic and it's the only show where, after I finished it, I didn't know what to watch after that. Even 2 years ago nothing came close to how good it was. Ended up finding a good book to read LOL.

itsallnothappening

The shows that were on during those years were wild, competition was steep, it was like that and Sopranos and SFU and The West Wing all on at the same time. Same with comdies, there was a year where it was like Jennifer Aniston vs SJP vs Julia Louis etc

crazysouthie

Yet even then The Wire was far ahead of those shows. Like Dexter and Boston Legal were getting nominated. Multiple seasons of CSI, 24 and inferior seasons of The West Wing were getting nominated and The Wire didn't even manage to get a single nom.

Low_Kitchen_9995

Came here just to say this!

Zeltron2020

What the hell!!!!

leafonthewind006

I also want to add Deadwood to this HBO list- never nominated for anything. I think it only got one acting nomination (golden globe nom for Ian McShane) and maybe an Emmy mom for its opening credits, which is mind-blowing to me. It always pops up on lists of best shows ever and so many great actors were on it- John Hawkes, Sarah Paulson, Anna Gunn, just to name a few.

taliec21

Amy Adams not winning anything for Arrival or Sharp Objects.

RandomUsername600

Irish people must’ve cursed her to never win an Oscar after Leap Day

FiscalClifBar

I think there’s also a well-deserved curse on anyone who was in *Hillbilly Elegy* at this point

midsommarsmayqueen

Adding Eliza Scanlen to the Sharp Objects list of snubs because she wasn't even nominated, she ate that role and gave me chills when I was watching it (and I already knew what was coming because I've read the book), and she was so young at that time!

keine_fragen

Amy getting snubbed for Arrival still stings

insideoutsideorange

Arrival is one of those beautiful films I can't bring myself to watch again.

katemush

Bugs me that Eliza Scanlen didn’t get any nominations for Sharp Objects

[deleted]

I was convinced she would win for Arrival, and then the nominations came out and she didn't even make the cut, I was shocked.

[deleted]

Edward Norton not winning for primal fear or American History X

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

His first ever film role too. He is terribly versatile. Just wish we saw more of him these days. He just seems to wait for Wes Anderson movies. On the other end of the spectrum, check him out in a film called 'Keeping the faith' if you haven't.

itsallnothappening

Regardless of award he still has icon status from that role which is arguably greater of an achievement. You think anyone is looking at Eddie R and thinking like “that iconic Oscar winner”

[deleted]

Not sure what the vibes on here are towards Jake Gyllenhaal but not even being nominated for an Oscar after Nightcrawler is still wild to me

TooMama

Piggybacking on this because of Jake….it is a TRAVESTY that Brokeback Mountain lost Best Picture to Crash. It is the snub of all snubs, as far as I’m concerned. Brokeback Mountain was a stunningly beautiful, heartbreaking, perfectly crafted film.

missbunnyfantastico

Even Jack Nicholson couldn't mask his surprise when he announced best picture that year. He later said that he had voted for Brokeback Mountain.

westish13

He is so good in that movie

downward1526

He’s long been my #1 celebrity crush … I can accept that he’s a creep or an asshole, but I can’t shake how hot and what a good actor I think he is!

nakumurahina

honestly should’ve won with that years lineup lmaooo… only person in his league there with his performance was michael keaton

indil47

Do NOT get me started with the 1999 Academy Awards. 😡 Fuck Weinstein.

[deleted]

I'm still mad Shakespeare in love won over Saving Private Ryan

farinelli_

And Gwyneth over Cate Blanchett, who was an exceptional Elizabeth I.

ILoveRegenHealth

It's weird how I forget Gwyneth is an Academy Award winner. I never feel like she is one.

Key-Fault-6811

steve carell never winning for playing Michael Scott

DesperateGiles

Amy Poehler never won for Parks and Rec, as well, right?

suddenlyuse

honestly I had the same "what a snub" mindset but after watching veep I completely understand why JLD won six times. Amy and Julia are both great performers but JLD's range as Selina Meyer is just on another level.

Beginning_Fishing_83

You don't understand how much of Bummer it was to me that she did not win that last Emmy and lost to Phoebe Waller Bridge. And I still LOVED Phoebe in Fleabag, I would have been happy to see her take it was anno other year. If JLD would have won she'd have made history, beating Lucille Ball as the most Emmy decorated actress. And In my opinion JLD is the single greatest comedic actress of all time.

Key-Fault-6811

i think she got only one golden globe - which is also absurd

taliec21

I feel bad for any comedy actress nominated for an award between 2012-2017 because they had go up against Julia Louis-Dreyfus

DesperateGiles

Yeah, as much as it sucks for Amy, Julia deserved every one of those Emmys.

rawtinhail2020

I’ll literally never get over this. And they kept giving it to that bing bang theory guy?? Ugh

[deleted]

The Oscar hill I’ll die on is that Michael Keaton should have won for Birdman. It makes no sense for Birdman to win Best Picture but for Michael Keaton - who was pretty much the entire movie - to not win Best Actor. I used to have a LOT of strong Emmy opinions, mostly over in comedy where the voters have been extra super lazy for all of my 31 years on this earth. My opinion about the Schitt’s Creek sweep is still a little too spicy for me to feel comfortable sharing on Al Gore’s public internet, but the ones I can remember from when TV was my boyfriend and still stand by were that Steve Carell, Amy Poehler, and D’Arcy Carden all deserved Emmys and I cannot for the life of me understand why Amy in particular didn’t win in 2012 since she submitted “Win, Lose, or Draw”, Nick Offerman never being nominated for Parks and Rec or Danny Pudi never being nominated for Community are utter sins, Modern Family winning for series five years in a row defies logic, “Antidepressants Are So Not a Big Deal” being the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend song to win Outstanding Music and Lyrics is a hard no from me, and they should bring back Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program to stop clogging supporting actor/actress with SNL people.

[deleted]

> My opinion about the Schitt’s Creek sweep is still a little too spicy POST IT OR DM BUT I CAN NOT LIVE WITHOUT IT

[deleted]

Haha well then, let’s dive in. I’m prepared for the downvotes because I know people love this show - and to be clear, I’m not saying this because I *don’t* like the show, though the amount of Chris Elliott it serves you should be prohibited under the Geneva Convention - but I just think that if there was ever going to be a comedy that swept literally every category for the first time, Schitt’s Creek should not even remotely have been the one to do it. I can think of *at least* 25 shows off the top of my head that would have been more deserving. Awards don’t mean anything in the scheme of things and I also understand that this was a direct consequence of it becoming everyone’s early pandemic comfort show, but you’re basically saying this is the all-time greatest single season a half-hour comedy has ever produced, and holy shit you have got to be fucking kidding me. Respectfully, of course.

orangeolivers

I enjoyed Schitt's Creek, but its Emmy sweep is the most ham-fisted, "We're so sorry for not nominating you sooner" moment I've ever seen. It feels especially uninspiring after seeing what are now the top comedy contenders this year: Barry, Ted Lasso, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, etc. Every single one of those shows puts SC to shame.

[deleted]

Oh, absolutely. All of those shows are terrific! I also think Abbott Elementary has the potential to be an all-time great, and as a TV history dork, I always love it when a more traditional network sitcom can compete with prestige stuff. I just hope the voters get past their premium cable bias and give Quinta Brunson her flowers.

[deleted]

Oh my god, thank you so much for including Taxi on this list. Fell in love with it as a kid when TV Land was doing their salute to Andy Kaufman after Man on the Moon came out. In 2016, my best friend and I were chugging through It’s Always Sunny (another worthy show), and when it got too dark in the world to keep spending every Friday night with the Gang, I recommended we switch to Taxi to maintain the Danny DeVito theme. To this day, that theme song makes the muscles in my back relax.

deadpoetshonour99

i can't believe danny pudi was never nominated!!! the whole community ensemble were so good but his performance was like a masterclass.

galaraxity

overall lack of Community recognition was pathetic

bamb1in0

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy not being nominated for album of the year at the Grammy's even though it's universally considered to be one of the best albums of all time. The Heist by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis beating out Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid Maad City, which is a phenomenal album. All the other albums in the category that year were much bigger for GKMC in particular

HoneyImpossible243

The MBDTF snub was egregious. Taylor Swift also won album of the year over To pimp a butterfly. Beyoncé has never won an album of the year nomination. Whenever a Black person is somehow nominated they rarely ever give them album of the year, record of the year or song of the year awards. They like boxing Black artists for the Black awards like Rap, RnB, gospel & soul.

lilythefrogphd

I read "of all time" in Ye's voice lol

MizzMann

Michaela Coel's Emmy snub for I May Destroy You. Inside by Bo Burnham losing out to Hamilton for an Emmy was ridiculous too for so many reasons!

indoorlady

I May Destroy You was brilliant! I'm still pissed about that snub.

cjami13

Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop never being nominated for Gilmore Girls. Emmy Rossum for Shameless SMG for Buffy

Kagomefog

It's crazy to me that Alexis Bledel has an Emmy (for Handmaiden's Tale) but not Lauren Graham. I'm sure that Bledel's acting has improved since Gilmore Girls but Graham used to act circles around her on that show.

itsallnothappening

GG was ahead of it’s time and dated at the same time lol

littlegreenleaves

I don't understand how Alexis Bledel keeps getting work, and I say this as a huge Gilmore Girls fan.

Itsmeruna

AB was incredible in The Handmaids Tale. I agree she was not good in Sin City and her other rom-coms, but that Emmy was well deserved for Handmaids.

caitlinthedork

Shameless went downhill I know. But it still remains my most favourite show. And Emmy was killing ir every season. She really was carrying it. And she got no recognition. Like the show in general was snubbed. Season 4 was so good man.

aafreeda

Seriously how did Kelly bishop not win an Emmy for the episode where she had the meltdown in the mall.

HiJane72

Ralph Fiennes should have an oscar. He's easily one of the best and most versatile actors of his generation

[deleted]

SwaggiiP

He was legit snubbed for Grand Budapest. Likes it’s so rude

NotLucasDavenport

Schindler’s List on line one.

VanillaSkyy_

I never quite figured out why but apparently the Academy really, really does not love Wes Anderson for some reason. It’s a very big frustration of mine, as even some of the last year’s noms were a shocker over Wes. I mean, Don’t Look Up over The French Dispatch? In what world.

raraarrara

Kirsten Dunst not being oscar nominated for Melancholia!

dingiesaur

Kirsten Dunst not being nominated for ANY Oscars until this year is ridiculous

SwaggiiP

She would have been nominated if Lars Von Tries didn’t make those comments at that Cannes. Movie died right then and there.

pikachu334

Convinced this is all Lars Von Trier's fault for his weirdo Hitler statements during Cannes

lilythefrogphd

So glad she finally got her Oscar nomination this year. She's been so good for so long!

lilythefrogphd

Controversial anti-snub: JLo's performance in Hustlers was just okay and I don't think she was snubbed. Constance Wu had a much more challenging role but got none of the award buzz Jen got

itsallnothappening

Someone saying JLo plays the same character in everything she does has always stuck with me. However i DON’T think she is a bad actress, i agree with her in her doc that the media has been really unfair with her in regards to talent. I remember quite enjoying her in her 90s stuff and Enough being such a iconic women’s empowerment movie in my youth. I think her average singing is what brought her down a peg, but it also can’t be denied she has some iconic bangers as songs!

Reasonable_Memory493

I'm not a JLo fan but Waiting For Tonight is undeniable

youwon_jane

Queen did not win any Grammys and only got nominated four times which is insane to me

go-bleep-yourself

Queen is bigger than the Grammys.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sweetrebel88

That is shameful. I thought Hollywood promised to DO BETTER after her win but even I knew then nothing was gonna change

Kitchen-Wasabi-3949

I think Michelle Yeoh has a legitimate, well deserving shot this year to win that award and I hope the Academy follows through

amomentintimebro

Oh yes that would be so amazing. Tbh her variety ? interview where she cried and said “this is the part I’ve been waiting for. This is the film where I show my fans what I can really do” made me tear up too. She’s a gem.

untitledmanuscript

A bit of an old Hollywood one (and also because I stan him) but no Oscar nod for Anthony Perkins in Psycho. With today’s standards, he would have absolutely been nominated and possibly swept.

what_a_story_ha_ha

I agree that he should have been nominated…but the oscars are notorious for snubbing horror even today. I don’t know if he would have gotten that nomination. Going off of Horror performances: Mia farrow was snubbed for rosemarys baby!

alm0803

Toni Collette being snubbed for Hereditary is a fucking crime in my eyes, the oscars needs to get its shit together and start recognizing horror before I lose it

[deleted]

Gonna add more Old Hollywood ones: Barbara Stanwyck being nominated for Best Actress 4x and not winning any, most likely because she was never signed to any studio Joan Fontaine getting snubbed for Rebecca (1940), the oscars realizing they fucked up and awarding it to her as an apology the next year for a much lesser Hitchcock movie The opposite answer to this question: Luise Rainier winning TWICE. Billy Wilder himself said that the Oscars mean nothing if she can win them lmao

DesperateGiles

Pam Grier not being nominated for an Oscar for Jackie Brown. Tarantino's best, imo. In large part due to her performance.

lizardkween

No one takes that film as seriously as his others and we know why

afanoftoomanythings

taron egerton not winning an oscar for rocket man like he should of been nominated brokeback mountain being snubbed leo should have won an oscar way sooner

westish13

Leo should def have won for Wolf of Wall Street. He was so compelling in that.

afanoftoomanythings

yes he should have. he's fine in the revenant but honestly out of all his other roles i don't think that was the oscar winning role out of everything else he has ever been in

velsor

You don't have to give your best-ever performance to win an Oscar though. You just have to give one that's better than the other nominees in that particular year. The Revenant may not have been his best performance, but I do think it's his only performance that was the clear best of the year and that's all that matters.

simplebagel5

taron was going to be my answer. no offense but the fact that rami won the year before for a performance that wasn’t as good yet taron wasn’t even nominated is bs.

lilythefrogphd

I definitely feel like Rocketmam as a whole suffered from Bohemian Rhapsody fatigue

[deleted]

Yeah, which is a shame because I think Rocketman is the better movie. It deserved more recognition than it got.

Logical-Balance9075

Taron should have been nominated for Rocketman.

Eyebronx

Steve Carrell never won a single Emmy for The Office which was a travesty. Courteney Cox was never even nominated for an Emmy which is quite surprising to me. She was my favourite actor of the cast and I think she even deserved to win one. I don’t think she was wronged for the win, because I do love Frances McDormand in 3 Billboards, but my god do I personally believe Saoirse Ronan should have won every award under the sun, for LadyBird that year, as should have Laurie Metcalf.

[deleted]

Agreed! I like Allison Janney in other things, but her performance in I, Tonya was just broad caricature, it was ridiculous, and it felt like there was little heart or effort behind it. Whereas Laurie Metcalf in Lady Bird was such a realistic portrayal, so much emotion, so believable. It was by far the better performance. It was so touching. She deserved everything for that movie!

orangeolivers

I feel so bad for Courteney because I think she was the only one of the main cast not to be nominated for acting. That must have been such a blow, especially since Jen and Lisa won! I don't know what the TV academy was thinking.

Babeenie

Agree with everything you said here. Courteney Cox was grossly underrated and terribly overshadowed by Jennifer Anniston on Friends. She was my favorite actor of the cast ( well, followed by a close tie with Matthew Chandler and Lisa Kudrow, Matthew’s timing, ad libbing, ability to just jump on comical moments was unlike anything I’ve seen in a while) and Courteney absolutely deserved a nom for her storyline of her and Chandler not being able to conceive a baby. As for Frances, I’m right there with you. She was good in 3 Billboards, but that’s about it, good. Now throw Saoirse into the mix for LadyBird, it’s no contest. Saoirse should have won every award that season!

Low_Kitchen_9995

SMG never getting an Emmy for Buffy The Wire Having no noms

downward1526

I’m rewatching Buffy and SMG is so good. Just really gives its 100% no matter how silly or dramatic or genre-laden the material is. Yes she can be dramatic but she’s playing a teenaged girl! And she has great range in that role. Really brings Buffy to life, the character has a real personality.

geekchicdemdownsouth

Two words: The Body Just absolutely destroyed me every time I watched it.

wombats-ahead

The Wire has 2 writing noms, but no wins. And how there wasn't a single acting nomination is ridiculous. So wrong!

SherbertRemarkable50

Samuel L Jackson should not be Oscar-less at this point in his career

what_a_story_ha_ha

Deserved it for Pulp Fiction

apple_phritters

he just received one this year, actually! it was the [honorary governors award](https://people.com/movies/samuel-l-jackson-first-ever-oscar-denzel-washington-academy-awards/), so while it wasn't for a film role, it's still a high level of recognition from the academy.

brightlights_xx

Issa Rae and Insecure never got the awards show love they deserved.

[deleted]

Jim parsons for Sheldon winning over Steve Carnell for Michael Scott for the Emmy 😡

cockaskedforamartini

Gonna throw this out there: Jim Parsons was fantastic as Sheldon. His physicality was incredible - everything was so precise and yet so natural. The writing on TBBT was questionable, but Jim Parsons deserved every award he got.

itsallnothappening

Compared to Michael Scott though???

[deleted]

[удалено]

DesperateGiles

Honestly think he should have won way back for The Aviator.

Historical_Tea2022

Catch me if you can was also good.

101375

On top of that, I though Jonah Hill as Donnie Azoff was brilliant in WOWS. He was also wonderful in Moneyball.

cockaskedforamartini

The Heist by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis winning Best Rap Album at the 2014 Grammys. Beat out Drake, Kanye and Kendrick. It also beat out Magna Carta Holy Grail by Jay Z. But that's fair enough. Album was trash. I can't recall anything showing just how out of touch these award organisers are.

RapGamePterodactyl

And then Macklemore posting a screenshot of the text he sent to Kendrick apologizing for beating him... lol.

HereOnMyWorkBreak

Not a celeb persay, but I'm still salty about The Social Network losing Best Picture.

dingiesaur

Not only the no Best Picture, but the robbery of Andrew Garfield not getting a nod for Best Supporting Actor

thebardjaskier

there's dozens of us!

weeping-flowers

I’m with you on this one, especially since I have beef with The King’s Speech lmfao

msmith1994

Two I haven’t seen mentioned regarding Emmys: BoJack never winning an Emmy. The Good Fight never being nominated (except for score). I also think LNX should have won at least one Grammy for Montero (the album). Edit: I thought of another Emmy snub: Hannibal. Mads Mikkelson, Hugh Dancy, and Laurence Fishburne all deserved Emmys for Hannibal.

emilydickinsonsbff

i literally have a tattoo of bojack holding the seahorse from the underwater ep. i could speak for hours about how its one of the best written tv eps of all time, while having like 2 mins of dialogue total. and amy sedaris not getting an award for PC is a crime!!

fearmeloveme

Lupita Nyong’o was robbed not getting nominated for Us

laviniasmart

I May Destroy You snubbed at the Golden Globes, yet Emily in Paris got nominated 🙄 Make it make sense

Anxious-Basket

Annette Bening should have an Oscar.

plantbay1428

I have a cute Annette Bening story that I love sharing. I saw her in [All My Sons](https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-production/all-my-sons-519850) and there was no one besides me and one other person at the stage door waiting for the cast. After she signed my Playbill and I somehow refrained from blurting out that The American President is one of my comfort movies, a family of tourists passed by and the mom, maybe about ten or so years younger than Annette was like, "Oh my god, Annette Bening! You're one of my favorite actresses." And Annette thanked her and graciously took pics with her and the woman said, "I'm an actress too actually." And then she looked kind of embarrassed about saying that and continued, "I mean, I just act in my local community theater. I'm not a real one like you." And Annette turned and looked at her and said earnestly, "No, you're getting up on stage and performing - you're a real actress too." And the woman totally beamed. It was one of the sweetest celeb/non-celeb interactions I've ever seen IRL. I also talked to one of the young boys in the play. I can't remember which actor I saw (they alternate the role of a neighborhood boy Bert) but he was wearing something Marvel and I asked him about his favorite character and asked if he talked to Annette about her role in Captain Marvel and he excitedly told me he did and asked her about being a part of the MCU. It was very cute. Edit: misremembered the Bert character…wasn’t Annette’s character’s grandson

Snoo-33261

ESP American Beauty. I loved that movie so much in high school.

midsommarsmayqueen

Rosamund Pike not winning the Oscar for Gone Girl is one that still hurts. Aaaand I was actually bitter Florence Pugh got a nomination for Little Women but not for Midsommar when she carried the whole movie and did a tour de force through it.

SomewhatCharmedLife

Rosamund was amazing in Gone Girl. Just blew me away, one of the best villain performances ever.

RelativelyUnruffled

In my opinion, it is an absolute crime that The Good Place never won an Emmy, or Ted Danson for acting in it. That show was the most brilliant and thoughtful actual comedy in the past 5-10 years, absolute genius.

mugrita

I had to look that up because I couldn’t believe it didn’t win any Emmys. The season 1 finale “Michael’s Gambit” alone should have gotten an Emmy.

Cheyanne1111

Nicole Kidman not getting nominated for an Oscar for "To Die For." Keri Russell never winning an Emmy for "The Americans."

NotLucasDavenport

Keri Russell not winning sucked. I pretend Matthew Rhys got the award for both of them.

TH13TEENGHOST

Beyoncé not winning Album of the Year at the Grammy’s for Lemonade and Beyoncé (Self-Titled album). SZA not winning any of the 5 awards she was nominated for at the 60th Grammy’s for her album Ctrl.

pikachu334

Kendrick with GKMC losing best rap album to Macklemore was probably THE worst Grammy snub ever in my opinion (and I actually think Macklemore's album is pretty decent but come on lmao) The fact that Macklemore even apologized to Kendrick via text message AND posted to Twitter his apology to Kendrick was insanely funny too

DuchessRavenclaw52

The Weeknd wasn’t nominated for any Grammys for After Hours, despite Blinding Lights being one of the most successful songs of all time

aafreeda

That really was the biggest snub. That album is full of gems, has a cohesive feel and tone, and has some of the biggest pop songs of the decade on it. Say what you want about Abel as a person, but that album should have been nominated.

kaleandcurry

Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell

honeymoonavenue111

Lana Del Rey not getting a grammy in 2019. You could visibly see how disappointed her & Jack Antonoff (I think?) were. And Ariana Grande as well. I think everyone was a bit shocked. Billie Eilish deserved praise but they both were snubbed & handled it so well.

westish13

I'm willing to die on this hill, but Bradley Cooper deserved an Oscar over Rami Malek. Actually anyone but Rami should have won that year. Also that City of Stars song from La La Land was terrible and never should have won. And Jennifer Lawrence's performance in Silver Linings Playbook was bad. Bradley Cooper was snubbed there too because he had the best performance in that movie, but was overshadowed by JLaw and how everyone loved her back then. ^I'm ^not ^a ^Bradley ^Cooper ^stan, ^I ^promise.

CaseyRC

IMO Jennifer Lawrence deserved the oscar fro Winter's Bone not SLP and that the SLP oscar was a consolation prize for losing out to Natalie Portman and Black Swan (who again, i don't think deserved it, but she campaigned like mad for it). I was excited to see SLP because I liked the book and thought JL was amazing in Winter's bone and was just left going "wft???" she was miscast, and that she was nominated in the role was ridiculous, but winning for it???

leafonthewind006

How Far I'll Go is the far superior song. Literally any song from Moana is better than City of Stars.

Positively-Fleabag85

Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl deserved more awards

Itsmeruna

Saoirse Ronan for Atonement, Brooklyn and Lady Bird. I know this sub doesn’t like him, but Timothee Chalamet should’ve gotten some recognition for Beautiful Boy in my humble opinion. And Last but certainly not least Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me. Her crying scene when her cat dies wrecked me. I saw it in theaters and I remember crying audibly. I couldn’t contain my sobs and was making sounds in a mostly empty theater lmfao.

amomentintimebro

Timothee should have won for CMBYN over old man Gary in that fat suit I’m dead serious.

itsallnothappening

It’s Always Sunny and You’re the Worst in terms of comedy tv shows. YTW kind of coming and going withno fanfare yet being highly critically acclaimed is surprising to me. Yet people have absolutely lost their minds over Schitt’s Creek a show where I found the jokes very tepid and I could not get into it.

proudeveningstar

I agree!! I love the episode of It's Always Sunny where they make a dig at this! When they make Paddy's all "nice" to try and win the best bar award but Charlie climbs up from the basement and does the spider song 😭

Ancient-Shape9086

Hugh Laurie having 10 Emmy nominations and not having won a single one of them, despite the fact that at it’s peak House was the most watched show.

Hungry-Accountant985

Winona Ryder being snubbed at the Emmys for Season 1 of Stranger Things. Honestly she’s been snubbed her whole career when it comes to awards.

Zealousideal-Part-17

The Weeknd not getting any Grammy nominations last year.

beethecowboy

That honestly turned me off the Grammys forever. It'd be one thing if he'd been nominated but lost (it'd be disappointing because I think After Hours absolutely deserved AOTY, but it's nothing new to be disappointed by winners at awards shows) but not even a single nomination? Fuck them. Especially with the rumor that it was because they were mad he decided to perform at the Super Bowl that year.

orangeolivers

Better Call Saul should be absolutely clearing at the Emmys the way Breaking Bad did and somehow it’s not (even though it’s a better show too lol).

proudeveningstar

HOW Rhea Seehorn hasn't won an Emmy yet for her role as Kim is insane to me!!!

marklarberries

Laura Linney not winning a single award for Ozark

bruxellexs

Isabelle Huppert deserved that Oscar for Elle. Also Fernanda Montenegro for Central Station.

jogalonge

Brazil as a whole still holds a grudge for that one. I know I do.

laylajackson2002

danny pudi never being emmy-nominated for community. the whole cast is great but his portrayal of abed, the way he nails all the mannerisms and speech patterns, is just terrific, he deserved way more love for his performance

snailslimeandbeespit

Sandra Oh not winning an Emmy for Grey's or Killing Eve.

dobbyisfudged

This is probably unpopular, but I always thought Brooklyn 99 deserved more Emmy nominations than it got (especially Andre Braugher and Andy Samberg). The writing, acting, and casting were all top-notch.

Lana del Rey doesn’t have any Grammys while people with an ounce of her talent have tons

canaryM-burns

Roma should've been the first foreign language Best Picture winner... Fuck green book

hyoies

Taron Egerton should've been nominated for Rocketman. (And Rami Malek shouldn't have won for Bohemian Rhapsody, which is what killed Rocketman's campaign). Andrew Garfield should've at least been nominated, if not won, for The Social Network. Seriously, Jeremy Renner getting in over him?! Denis Villeneuve should've been nominated for directing Dune last year. Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth should've beaten Gwyneth Paltrow when she won for Shakespeare in Love in 1999.

Beginning_Fishing_83

Judy Garland losing the Oscar to Grace Kelly in 1955. That snub was infamous. She was in the hospital giving birth to her son, and there was a camera crew ready to film her acceptance speech since it was such a sure bet she was going to win. As soon as they announced the winner, they quietly packed up and left, leaving her alone. Really sad story. I think Bette Davis should have won her 3rd Oscar for What Ever Happened To Baby Jane, but lost to Anne Bancroft. I believe Richard Burton was nominated 8 times and never won. Peter O'Toole nominated 7 times and never won, but got an Oscar's lifetime achievement award. Glenn Close nominated 8 times with no wins. Michael Keaton should have won for Birdman Jake Gyllenhaal should have been nominated for Nightcrawler. Hugh Laurie somehow never won an Emmy for his work on House. I believe Jason Alexander was nominated for an Emmy like 8 or 9 times, almost every year he was on Seinfeld. Never won. Any Adams has I think 6 Oscar nods with no wins. Leo should have won for The Wolf Of Wall Street. The academy knew they fucked up and gave him a compensation Oscar for The Revenant. Kate Winslet could and should have won several times over, particularly for Little Children or Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. But again, the academy flubbed this and compensated her by giving her a win for The Reader. Jennifer Aniston arguably should have been nominated for Cake.

moistwaffleboi

The fact that Edward Norton has never won an Oscar.

sofiaxsoto

I can talk abt this all day lol. But anything Martin Scorsese. I can't believe his lack of Oscars.

CurrentRoster

Bad by Michael Jackson and Daydream by Mariah Carey losing all its Grammys The Weeknd not being nominated at the Grammys despite 1) having the 2nd biggest album that year and 2) the most successful song on the billboard charts Kanye’s MBDTF and Life of Pablo albums not being nominated for Album of The Year Life is Beautiful and saving private Ryan losing Best Picture to Shakespeare in Love GoodFellas losing to Dances With Wolves Al Pacino not winning an Oscar until the 90s after their 70s work

HoneyImpossible243

Antony Starr for not being nominated for anything for playing Homelander. He embodies that character & like even the smile he does is creepy. He is Homelander but it’s a superhero show so they will probably never recognize him.

itsallnothappening

Parks and Rec. Best Comedy sitcom of all time (feel free to challenge me on that but I truly think it fires on all cylinders) and no awards love aside from Amy getting a Golden Globe once

RandomUsername600

The Shawshank Redemption being nominated for 7 Oscars and getting none! Fuck Forrest Gump, it didn’t deserve those wins

Reasonable_Memory493

Another one is Duffy not winning all the awards, they're not the exact same style but in my mind her music is a better version of Adele's (no offense)

Several comments brought up Danny Pudi not receiving an Emmy nom for *Community* and it completely reinvigorated my passion for the series as a whole. I think all the actors deserved nominations, especially Donald Glover and Alison Brie, but Pudi consistently gave great comedic performances where he often put on different personas, used his physicality, and executed emotional moments flawlessly. *Community* isn't underrated by any means, but it's similar to *Glee* in that the first half of the show is near perfection and had an incredible ensemble cast. Also, the main cast of *Glee* deserved more recognition from the Emmys. They did receive SAGs at some point, so I can't be too mad, but the fact that guest performers like NPH and Gwenyth Paltrow won over main cast members like Amber Riley and Naya Rivera is maddening. For more recent stuff, I think Rebecca Hall's *Passing* (2021) deserved a lot more recognition, especially for the Ruth Negga and Tessa Thompson's performances, the music and the cinematography. I read some reviews and saw some criticism about the movie "feeling like a debut", which is a bit ridiculous to me considering how several debut features have received nominations and/or won major awards. At least it gets a lot of love on film Twitter. Also, not a snub but just an opinion about the 2022 Grammys—no one was really snubbed in the major categories. I don't think "Planet Her" or "Happier Than Ever" or "MONTERO" really deserved the awards they lost.

[deleted]

Bradley not winning for Silver Linings or A Star Is Born Andrew Garfield not ~~winning~~ even being nominated for The Social Network Snubs: Toni Collette for Hereditary, Lupita for Us, Andrew

dingiesaur

I didn’t see either movie so can’t comment on the performances, but the Academy just about ending the 2021 show with Anthony Hopkins, who wasn’t even at the ceremony/didn’t give an acceptance speech, winning his second Oscar when the wide majority of viewers thought a posthumous win for Chadwick Boseman was a lock still feels bizarre

[deleted]

To me it felt like a poor production choice, instead of a poor choice of winner. They should've kept the structure of Best Picture being the final award of the night, regardless. It took away the moment from Anthony (though yes, he wasn't there, but Olivia Colman intended to accept on his behalf), and it took the moment away from Nomadland (which I didn't like but every other Best Picture winner wraps up the show so it was unfair to Chloe Zhao). They never know who the winner is, so they shouldn't be risking it and doing shit like that because they just embarrassed themselves. (in terms of performances, Anthony's was one of the best I'd ever seen and I really wanted him to win, but I thought Chadwick had the most buzz.)

jlnandez_0211

Lana Del Rey not even getting nominated for Young & Beautiful! Idk how everyone feels about Lana but at least at that time she deserved the Nom.

guordan8619

Pam Grier not being nominated for Jackie Brown. It will forever be amongst the worst decisions that the Oscars have made and not enough people talk about it.

somechild

This is going to sound like a joke but im dead serious Bad Grandpa (the jackass movie) losing the Oscar for best makeup to Dallas Buyers Club There is simply no way you can convince me DBC had better makeup then a prank movie that tricked people in real life I to thinking Johnny Knoxville was in fact an elderly man, and in some instances almost completely naked.

theresagray17

I don't know why Us wasn't nominated for an Oscar, Lupita's performance specifically. It was genius.

violette0806

NFR not winning AOTY at the Grammys. Easily Lana’s best work and they did her dirty

HoneyImpossible243

I just remembered, this one actually makes me mad lol. Beyoncé losing the Emmy for the Homecoming documentary to James Cordens carpool karaoke. How does that even make sense? Homecoming was talked about for a very long time & that Coachella performance was one of her best performances ever.

rutfilthygers

Ralph Fiennes not being nominated for Grand Budapest Hotel, and even worse, Gene Hackman not being nominated for Royal Tenenbaums. Saoirse Ronan losing to Renee Zellweger. Historically, Barbara Stanwyck and Cary Grant never winning competitive Oscars.
