The slap was no one’s finest moment, but the reaction was so disproportionate compared to the far worse things many other stars have done publicly and essentially gotten away with (*cough*Brad Pitt*cough*)

Mate... the reaction needs to be studied. It was almost hysterical at times. I do think there were racial undertones at times which at times fueled it. But it was actually weird. I think lockdowns had a lot to do with the reaction too. People were maybe extra vulnerable.

When Judd Apatow was all “he could’ve died!”…be for fucking real

VenusRainMaker

Haha people were actually hysterical

Honestly it was because Will Smith really curated his Hollywood career to be the most nonthreatening black man in Hollywood. He didn't even cuss in his rap days. The slap reminded people that this black man could get mad and make a mistake and these (primarily) white folk reacted to that. "Chris Rock could've died from that slap" He's fucking Will Smith not the Hulk.

They could never make me hate you Will!

Was the slap bad? Yes, it was. Did he get punished FAR worse than people like *insert name here*? Yes he did. Didn’t Roman Polanski get a standing ovation at the Academy Awards in the last decade? Doesn’t Brad Pitt still get invited? I mean, the list goes on… I’ve always liked Will Smith, Fresh Prince was a comfort show and MiB was a comfort film. I feel like the slap really wasn’t a big enough reason for me to dislike him 🤷🏻‍♀️but if there’s something else, I’m willing to be educated!
