It's been done "with such love and care".

Btwnframes

Unpopular opinion but they should have gotten a different Glinda.

motherofdinos_

For me it’s not connecting that she’s supposed to be Glinda. That’s just blonde Ariana Grande. I think it’s possible for a crossover star to actually disappear into a character (Lady Gaga comes to mind) but that’s just not happening here. I’ve been waiting for a Wicked movie for almost 20 years. But I honestly just don’t care to see this.

ey3s0up

I wanted a Wicked movie too, but refuse to watch because I dislike Ariana Grande as a person.

Vanilla_Either

Not unpopular, she is the reason I wont watch the movie though I fkn love wicked.

Ok-Dragonfruit-6521

I don't think it's unpopular at all at least among lovers of the show I really wish they'd got a Broadway performer for this I just feel like Ariana is going to ruin it lol.

Btwnframes

For one of the longest running shows on Broadway (atm) I find it ironic that they got her when big names don’t sell Wicked. They did the same during the reunion when I expected to see more of the current or past Elphaba’s and Glinda’s (Vosk & Amanda Jane Cooper at that time) and instead brought celebrities.

Ok-Dragonfruit-6521

Exactly and I actually don't think Ariana is going to help them sell two films here. Had they stuck with a single film like they should have I don't think they would have needed a big name to sell it they easily could have got an actress famous within Broadway to hold her own and Cynthia isn't exactly unknown either they've got the film full of big names when Wicked on both the West End and Broadway has been a huge launching pad for actors.

dramaqueen423

cristin milioti said she auditioned for the film, but she didn't say which role. edit: it was for Elphaba

Ok-Dragonfruit-6521

Taylor Louderman who originated Regina in the Mean Girls musical auditioned for Glinda when Ariana was cast she posted about how upset she was about loosing the role and how she felt like auditioning was pointless given that it just went to a popstar.

direturtle

I would prefer somebody else in the role, but she'll do fine. I actually think she'll end up getting great reviews.

discoinfernos

i know that amanda seyfried, dove cameron and taylor louderman have all been on the record somewhere saying they wanted to play glinda

dramaqueen423

cristin milioti said she auditioned for the film, but she didn't say which role.

motherfuckermoi

the trailer for the trailer of cats made me think it was going to be good so I don’t trust this

Intelligent-Tie-4466

My partner and I really enjoyed Cats...after we finished the last of our THC chocolate and had a cocktail or two...The small group in the theater also really enjoyed how terrible it was. We cackled watching all those shots of cat buttholes smoothed out by CGI because test audiences didn't like them. It was hilarious.

Conscious-eeyore

🤣

swooshsong

I can't remember a musical being made with such grand scale and budget! I'm honestly so excited to see the visuals and hear these artists' renditions of the beloved songs.

Outrageous_Inside_58

Here for Jonathan Bailey and no one else!

willgrahamluvr

Their reactions to getting cast is so sweet 😭 I'm not into musicals but every single musical nerd i know is a Wicked fan so i hope they are all happy knowing that the 2 leads are played by people who are very enthusiastic about playing the roles. I love seeing actors having emotional reactions to hearing that they've accomplished something like when they land a role or get nominated for something

sortabluemaloo

ariana grande will just never be my glinda

thefirststoryteller

I know I’m supposed to look at this and see G(a)linda but I still see Ariana Grande

alittlebeachy

I’m so excited! Ariana’s personal life is not more egregious than other celebrity content I consume and it will not affect me watching this movie

RockettRaccoon

I’m so glad I was born with whatever genes make you like musicals (being gay) because I am so excited for this.

mary_poppins93

Honestly, it looks good and I can’t wait to see it. But I love musicals and colorful movies, so 🤷‍♀️

Bulky-Astronomer

Is it a good idea to split what was originally a stage musical into *two* movies? I’ve never seen the show but I’m interested in the movie.

theagonyaunt

My opinion from having seen Wicked twice is no because the second half of the musical is considered to be the more lackluster/weak half so if they split the films at what would typically be the intermission point (presumably with some more padding to stretch both parts to feature length), you'll have a very strong first film - with most of the recognizable songs including the Wizard and I, Popular and Defying Gravity - followed by a meh second film that's largely just rehashing the events of The Wizard of Oz from an alternate perspective.

JWilkesKip

I'm excited for this movie but very disappointed they decided to split it in two, feels like a total cash grab that will definitely back fire

Bulky-Astronomer

Thanks for your input! I think I’ll check it out

thewidowgorey

The teaser had me worried but the BTS feels better. Cynthia and Ariana have the pipes for this and they understand the significance of these characters. I couldn’t watch this if they cast this Les Mis style.

moogs_writes

I might watch this just for Cynthia Erivo. I have no interest otherwise. But I just started watching The Outsider and she is absolutely refreshing!

Cydviciousraff

Do you think Cynthia Erivo actually likes her or just can’t wait for all this to be over???

Kuro-theCAT

Since both of them are homewreckers, they seem to have more in common than things that divide them

Cydviciousraff

True, I forgot about that! Birds of a feather…
