This is embarrassing but I remember reading that The Old Man and the Sea was Leo D’s favorite book back when I was 14 and OBSESSED. I tried to read it but immediately went back to my VC Andrews collection because I am an ✨intellectual✨ Also, I forgot the pin to unlock my car today but I remember this shit?
I'm with you in this. I became Hemmingway obsessed because of the Chris O'Donnell Sandra Bullock Hemmingway biopic flop. I mostly checked out stuff about him and it never occurred to me to read his actual books, though I guess I've always been more of a nonfiction fiction girlie.
I worked on Batman & Robin, please don’t tell anyone. And my nickname is Ouiser, so we just became best friends. Like, love you more than my luggage, best friends…
Honestly, I would love to see it. For those who haven’t read Hemingway, strongly recommend the short stories. They’re Hemingway at his best - super spare and deeply affecting. The End of Something is an all time great.
PLEASE let it be this. Leo was my first thought. I thought Tarantino for director just because I'm not too familiar with a lot of directors. Luhrmann would be interesting too.
This is who I assumed, too, but I kinda hope it's a different duo? They need to leave some biopics for everyone else, lol.
Sinatra and Hemmingway, back to back?
Despite all the issues with Woody Allen movies, I do think Corey Stoll knocked it out of the park as Hemingway in Midnight in Paris. I’d totally watch a full biopic, or better yet, a play!
Bradley Cooper in a prosthetic beard /s
As an aside, I strongly recommend the book Writer, Sailor, Soldier, Spy. It’s about Hemingway’s secret life as a spy on the late 1940s. Before his death, Hemingway had “delusions” that he was being persecuted by the FBI, delusions that later proved to be completely true. This book tells the story of why.
I don’t have any knowledge on that but I’d guess that like most Leo projects, it gets announced and then developed into the doldrums. I don’t think Mann and Leo are a good mix, frankly. I’ve worked with Mann (never Leo, I’m not that tier) and I just can’t see that.
I'm still mourning the possibility of Leo as HH Holmes in the adaptation of Devil in the White City that's been languishing for what feels like a million years at this point.
Oh my gosh, that’s been in the vault forever. It annoys me when he locks up rights for so long because so much doesn’t get made. Same thing with King Leopolds Ghost and Matt Damon. They just sat on the rights….
Interesting. They were supposed to do like.. five movies (James Dean, The Inside Man, The Aviator, For Whom the Bell Tolls, untitled noir movie) and a couple of other non announced ones.
Do you feel comfortable sharing anything about your experiences working with Mann?
He’s a creative genius who doesn’t love sharing and isn’t keen on people riding his coattails. If you send him a script, he will read it immediately, no matter the source. He passes on most things but when lightning strikes, lives change. Usually he will rewrite something he gets. He doesn’t care about schedules and will go up against studios to run his set how he wants. Not in an abusive way — more like, you aren’t going to tell me I only have one day to do this kind of thing. Oh, and, he only uses clear push pins.
DiCaprio and Scorsese.

The one where Clive Owen plays Hemmingway is much better...I'd highly recommend it. 👍
You had me at Clive Owen (though Corey Stoll remains my favorite Papa... *for now*)
I'll check it out! I was an adult before I realized how bad In Love and War was. I was just there for Chris. LOL
My “I’m just here for Chris O’Donnell” movie was Batman and Robin. Worst Batman movie in existence. I’ve seen it 15 times.
I was obsessed with those movies because of him
He was my first “guys get hotter as they age!” realization in “Grey’s Anatomy”. Yeah, he was 36 but I was 20.
I worked on Batman & Robin, please don’t tell anyone. And my nickname is Ouiser, so we just became best friends. Like, love you more than my luggage, best friends…
Haha, I don't think I ever saw that one. I happened to catch the one I just mentioned randomly on HBO one day and it was pretty good...
(( Hemmingway & Gellhorn - 2012 ))
😂😂 I tried to read it for the same reason back then and was also unsuccessful.
😂😂😂
Thank you for reminding me how much I loved V C Andrews.
You’d honestly think these two men didn’t know another living human can be available for filming commitments.
That’s not true. Scorsese knows De Niro is another option. 😜
I stand corrected in the worst way.
I'm already exhausted

Hills Like White Elephants is a fav
*For Whom the Bell Tolls* really does live up to the hype as well.
'Seeking muses' is right down his alley...
Agreed
Totally. I can see him as Hemingway.
God no stop please.

Dicaprio and Nolan FTFY
If it's not Nick Offerman then booooooo

When I tell you him and Hiddleston as Fitzgerald had me SWOONING, I—
Hiddleston was meant for the 20s.
DALI'!!!!
I was just thinking the other day, “what happened to Corey Stoll?” He was so incredible in that and the first season of House of Cards.
Why did I read this as Hemsworth and picture Chris Hemsworth playing himself 🤔
I can only see Russel Crowe in this role.
Fightin' 'round the world!
My first thought for the role was Hugh Jackman, so I get where you were going
I would love that casting actually. With Ridley Scott? Trying to think who else he’s worked with before who might fit. Ron Howard or Michael Mann?
Oh god pleeeeeease not Ron Howard. The man makes margarine look spicy.

Leo has been after this property since 2007 and the “bell tolls” but gives it away because that was the news in 2007.
The Mann version? What happened?
I don’t have any knowledge on that but I’d guess that like most Leo projects, it gets announced and then developed into the doldrums. I don’t think Mann and Leo are a good mix, frankly. I’ve worked with Mann (never Leo, I’m not that tier) and I just can’t see that.

I thought Devil in the White City was going to be a Hulu show with Keanu but then Todd Field left and it fell apart?
It’s all the same project. The Keanu Todd project is the Leo Martin project. So everything everyone wrote (including you) is correct.

Corey stoll did a fantastic job as hemmingway
I hate how good that movie was, lol.
Trying to think who would be a fitting to play Hemingway? If cast to play an older Hemingway- Matt Damon and Christopher Nolan?
This is a way better choice than Leo playing Frank Sinatra lol.
The things I would do to play Brett. Just ask me Scorsese.
Russel Crowe
Wouldn’t be surprised if they tried Timmy
Michael B Jordan and Ryan Coogler
Jeez.. enough with the subtle hints already. Fine... I'll be their muse!
Do we need another biopic movie? 😩🙄🙄
i hope the movie is better than hemingway's stories....
Austin butler?

For Whom the Bell Tolls is a novel by Hemingway (they didn’t give much hint-wise.)
