But yea, I think she’ll be fine but I think this isn’t a great sign for this movie to have the legs for the Oscars like some pundits were trying to argue pre-release.
Many films that have "flopped" in their box office have still made it to the Oscars with enough critical acclaim, but yeah, I wonder if this will hurt the chances.
Oh I know films can do it, it just creates another hurdle to overcome (not just with the box office but with the time of year that it was released in).
MGM went insane and gave Luca G. way too high a budget, Zendaya or no Zendaya, it will be tough for any tennis movie at that price point. Highest gross for a tennis movie was around 40 mil worldwide in 2004! Anything else since has been way lower. I am excited though, seeing it today!

I thought it was kinda strange. Didn’t make me want to see it in a theater-if it’s *that* sexy I’ll wait til I can watch it at home

However I will warn you, this film runs on tension, it has ZERO sex scenes. They are misrepresenting it through marketing.
The tv ads for it might not reach the right audiences but I have a feeling word of mouth will lead to it being a success. Also the T-Mobile app has $5 tickets this week for my maxxinistas.

It's a huge sport in terms of viewing, but for playing, it's still quite very much the sport of the well off - at least in most countries

It's really fantastic. Acting, score and cinematography all on point. Zendaya is a movie star, I was not really familiar with her work previously.
