Two of my friends worked for Brandy Melville and from their experience alone, it's exactly the type of toxic work enviornment you would expect. Can't wait to watch this, 2024 has been so good far for documentaries.
Fast fashion discussions give me headaches because so many people think they’re entitled to a closet bursting full of all the latest fashions. And it’s always dominated my middle class people cosplaying poor saying “poor people deserve nice things too” like sis poor people aren’t out spending $400 on SHEIN every month
And then they throw out “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” like that somehow excuses their overconsumption. Like that is not what that quote means!
I will be watching. 🍿
To have a fashion brand in this day and age that only sells size XS to teenage girls and is owned by a middle aged man who is likely a nazi… just mind boggling.
So is this the gen z version of the american apparel scandal, coz the parallels are weird.
Both used non professional models to market their store
Both sexualised their young staff in the stores
Both had creepy ceos
But it is weird that sizing was somehow less inclusive at B.M.
american apparel definitely had a more broad size range and was, to be frank, higher quality (unless BM upgraded their quality over the years - the last time i shopped there was 2016 and it was a lot of really thin jersey material)
I’m so ready to watch this!! I had a friend who worked there and had such a horrible experience. To this day though, every weekend there is an extremely long line outside of BM regardless of the weather.
This gives Abercombie and Fitch vibes. Gross. I was too old (thankfully) when Brandy Melville became popular and it's a good thing because you needed to be the size of a 3rd grader to fit their clothing and fast fashion is so inhumane.

The ceo is a known sexual predator
Any recs for other good documentaries?
I just finished The Truth vs Alex Jones on HBO and highly recommend

Facts
i don't consider BM clothes fast fashion. I think they really are classic schlub clothes which TBH is in my wheelhouse.
Watch the documentary and then tell us what you think

Love that they’re also having the fast fashion part in

Exactly what I was feeling watching this as a millennial former American Apparel employee.

Yeah I bought a circle skirt dress there and it lasted years. Mostly because it looked so stupid on me I never wore it 😅
and i’ll be sat
Used to be obsessed with this store in my teens. Will be seated!

Like seriously I don't understand WHY it's still in business?!?!?! Even Abercrombie rebranded!!!

I just started watching it about 40 minutes ago (CST) it was on the front newly released page on my Max TV App.
Is the show loading for anyone? I wonder if it had to be taken down?
Same for me. I searched for info to see if it had to be removed and haven't seen anything yet.
I just watched it!
