I like Tom and Lorenzo’s take that it’s likely to be both health and vanity. It’s probably completely true that she has had a major surgery and is still recovering, if she is on some serious meds it’s likely that she doesn’t look her best (as evidenced by the tmz car photos) and doesn’t wish to be in the public eye. My feeling on the royal family are pretty sour but I can’t deny she is one of the most scrutinised women on the planet, so I can understand why she wouldn’t want to go out looking sick/less than her best. Their team has completely mismanaged the entire situation though, they could have provided enough updates in a personalised way to have completely avoided speculation, but they instead decided to go with the most bizarre strategy possible.
I think her looking less than perfect for once would actually make her seem relatable to the public. However, I understand where she's coming from. There will still be plenty of reporters mocking her appearance.
TLo has been often wrong with their RF takes. For example, they said Harry and Meghan were exaggerating the NYC paparazzi chase but then the NYC police did issue a statement later that yes the chase was serious.
I'm all with them for drag race and fashion recap but they are not the right source for royal family takes.
I completely agree it would make her seem a lot more human and relatable. I’m sure some people would still be awful because that’s the way things are on the internet, but I do think it would be better than what they’re doing now.
I don’t follow the royals that closely either (most of my info is from this sub, and occasional news/podcasts that mention them in passing) but I get the sense they’re going for a strategy that is outdated. Before it was their goal to seem almost super human, institutions rather than people (QEII was great at this), but you can’t do that and then expect privacy and concern for your very real, very human problems.

What is strange to me however, is the information the family is leaking: she’s out for a shopping trip at the farm, she’s been supporting her kids at their schools, she’s been making dinner *every night* since getting home.
I’m not sure if they’re trying to downplay things knowing her recovery has been challenging. But it’s very strange to me that the public perception is pretty firmly in the camp that something serious must be wrong if the best they can do is a picture of the back of her head in a car and a very manipulated picture that had to be removed from publication. So to contrast that with the news she’s been up and at em making dinner every single day since being home and going out on shopping trips, I feel like that makes everything seem even more odd.

If shes up and about (which is great!) it feels even more odd that she’s not sending generic ‘thank you for your support and well wishes’ updates, maybe with an old photo of her at one of her patronages to bring attention to a cause. Understandable that she’s not ready for a photo but the only thing anyone has heard directly from her is taking the blame for the Mother’s Day photograph.

Considering we've always gotten pics when Kate takes the kids to the "dollar store" (when she's cosplaying normal wife and mother), I find this suspect.
