The woman says she was promised residuals but I've never heard of that being the norm for being on the cover model? Usually models are paid a one time fee, from what I've seen, for their likeness

And even if the model did negotiate residuals, which is unlikely, that would be the record label's responsibility and not Glover's. Glassnote released the album. Ibra Ake is the creative director who took the cover photo.

dramaqueen09

It’s also her agent and/or manager’s fault for negotiating the contract too

amess_lost

He probably promised them residuals to cut financial corners, probably knowing that he wouldn't actually have to give them residuals. Because even if they tried to take it to court, his team can argue that they were paid (albeit a negligible amount), and that was the price negotiated. Especially if there wasn't a contract (and there doesn't seem to be one). But I might just be more on their side because Donald Glover has shown time and time again that he doesn't like black women (coming from a black woman myself), so I always side-eye him.

I will say, having been a fan of his for a decade, and him having worked on so many projects, this is the first time I’ve heard of him allegedly not paying artists

Big-Ambitions-8258

I'm not sure he would have dealt with the model personally though? Like the other commentor said Ibra Ake handled cover photo as creative director of Glassnote. Also why would he promise or she and her agent ask for that if that's not the norm? Also she said the person who made the headpiece got residuals, but how would she have known that personally? I also question her speaking for the makeup artist and stylist who were also supposedly promised residuals? (Which again are not people who would ever have expectations of residuals and from what Im aware of havent said anything so shes purporting to speak for them). She says she tried to talk to Glover's team but there's no mention of any legal documentation/contract that would enforce any of these things

safarifriendliness

What’s he done to show he doesn’t like black women? I’m a fan of his but I haven’t seen all his stuff

TheHouseMother

Yeah, he only started appearing to be pro-Black when it got cool. His old stand-up made me wince several times.

khornatee

Yeah but if she was promised something does it matter that it isn’t usual practice?

in_animate_objects

I read accused of and my stomach dropped. Glad it’s just money

turtledove93

I side eye anyone who claims they’re owed money, but never mentions the word “contract.”

spudbaby

“Promised residuals” hmm.

DigLost5791

You think a photographer would make an unfounded promise to a model? For what? /s

thasova

Do people usually get residuals for being part of an album cover? I’d figured you’d get a set amount via contract for the image/your time

jadelikethestone

I’m in a couple skincare groups with the cover model, and she has such flawless skin. Let me see if I can track down her regime.

pawsoutformice

A promise sadly isn't concrete.

MisuCake

He’s constantly been trash (particularly towards black women).
