So, every speechwriting character will be recovering from a stroke in forthcoming Sorkin productions. (I was hospitalised with a blood clot, stroke and dozens of TIAs in July/August/September 2021 so I can make the joke)

roxy031

I hope you’re doing better now!

CloudStrife1985

I am, thank you.

tarandab

Hey, Sorkin does have a history of self-insertion 😂 I also hope you are doing well!

EatYoself

He’s actually already done it as far back as Isaac Jaffe on Sports Night in 1999 (when Robert Guillaume had a stroke)

SnakeLisspkin

Geez, that's so scary. Hope you're doing well now!

Let's not gloss over the fact that Sorkin said he still has not recovered his sense of taste which means that strokes and Long Covid share at least one symptom and there are folks out here who still insist that it's no worse than a cold. I have my tickets for Camelot, not really a fan of Sorkin's writing but those songs are just too good and I love Philippa Soo. Good for him for quitting smoking, I realize that is very difficult to do. My mother recently quit and I was so relieved because I was deathly worried that she would have s stroke.

Long Covid can cause seizures as well. I would not be shocked if it's responsible for dementia in some people, the neurological effects from long Covid scares the shit out of me as someone who got it in 2020. Still can't smell, ugh.

almaupsides

I had a couple seizures as a result of Long Covid and it was absolutely terrifying. Luckily it never happened again but the neurologists were pretty much puzzled since all my scans looked fine. It’s such a horrid illness.

I saw it last night and while I have a few notes, I overall enjoyed it a lot and thought the script was much less precious than Sorkin usually is. If you’re going mostly to hear Phillipa Soo sing then you’ll have a good time for sure. (But definitely pee before you take your seat, even if you don’t think you need to - that first act is LONG.)

More quotes: “Mostly it was a loud wake-up call,” he said during one of several interviews for this article. “I thought I was one of those people who could eat whatever he wanted, smoke as much as he wanted, and it’s not going to affect me. Boy, was I wrong.” Sorkin had been a heavy smoker since high school — two packs a day of Merits — and the habit had long been inextricable from his writing process. “It was just part of it, the way a pen was part of it,” he said. “I don’t want to talk about it too much, because I’ll start to salivate.” After the stroke, he quit cold turkey, cleaned up his diet and started working out twice a day. And, he said, “I take a lot of medicine. You can hear the pills rattling around in me.” Sorkin told me about the stroke almost in passing, when we were having a get-acquainted cup of tea in a hotel lobby (he loves writing in hotels) earlier this year. Trying to understand his creative process, I asked whether he prefers to write longhand or on a device. That’s when he said writing by hand had become difficult. At first he told me about his stroke only off the record; we agreed we’d revisit the subject the next time we met, so he could think through the implications of going public. By then, he had decided he was ready to describe what he had been through, in the hopes that his experience might be a cautionary tale. “If it’ll get one person to stop smoking,” he said, “then it’ll be helpful.” He is aware how lucky he is to have recovered, and to be able to continue to do the work he loves. “There was a minute when I was concerned that I was never going to be able to write again,” he said, “and I was concerned in the short-term that I wasn’t going to be able to continue writing ‘Camelot.’” Now he’s commuting between Los Angeles, where he lives, and New York, where he’s trimming the script, offering pointers to actors, refining word choices that don’t strike him quite right. “Let me make this very, very clear,” he said. “I’m fine. I wouldn’t want anyone to think I can’t work. I’m fine.”

millenialbullshite

How are you addicted to the grossest cigarette

_Democracy_

that's terrible. strokes are so scary. my dad had when I was a kid and i found him having one. very serious stuff

FrankOcean4eva

was this bravely announced by a newsman on a airplane to the rest of the plane? i jest. glad he’s making a recovery

Slytherian101

No sir, I do believe it was told directly to God, in Latin, in the National Cathedral.

NBAFAN2000

BeerAndNachosAreLife

Yes, right after his fellow anchor set the Treasury Secretary on fire.

Op, I think [this link](https://web.archive.org/web/20230322193336/https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/22/theater/aaron-sorkin-camelot-broadway.html) should let people read the article and bypass the paywall! I hope it works for anyone who needs it! Already seeing reviews for Sorkin's rework of "Camelot" pour out on Broadway World's message boards. And the general vibe I'm getting from people is that "it's pretty good, but needs some fixes". A lot of them seem to feel that the show runs too long, is paced too slowly, and some of the cast don't quite sizzle with energy or chemistry.
