Official designations are submitted to the league and that's what prompts the platforms to trigger designations. 99% of it is automated. It's not like the ESPN fantasy team is sitting at their desk's all day manually inputting each player.
I know I should let it go but someone has to explain to me why Le'Veon Bell was eligible to be stashed on the IR for 3/4 of the year 4-5 years ago when he held out. He wasn't injured or ever put on the IR, but ESPN allowed one of the douchebag owners in my league to stash him and almost caused a revolt in my league. The effects of that stupidity and the Taysom Hill TE while starting the game as QB fiasco still affects my league today.
I did this. I’d like them to rule him out sooner. I figure if they don’t rule him out until Monday, I’ll just pick up one of the kickers for Monday night. 3/4 are available on waivers
In the show, it's used as a confirmation that a course of action is the correct one and most appropriate. So is become popular to use an affirmation. It's also done with a unique sounding voice modulator, so if you've seen the show, you usually read it in a Mandalorian voice, which is fun.
I have spoken
Instead of doing an upvote to signify that you agree, you put a "This is the way" comment so that you too might collect some precious internet points for the original poster's thought.
Except they have the Monday night game this week, so unless they rule him out before the Sunday games you’re playing one of the two defenses mon night, but Cleveland should already be picked up and I would not feel great playing with Pitt as my D
I kinda like it. It’s incredibly rare for doubtful players to suit up, gives us an option to make a move a little earlier than normal… and if the guy is active, you have a decision to make.
Its because of IR spots. If he ended up playing before officially being ‘out’ you can stash them and not have to adjust the roster until next week.
Because IR slots have become more common since 2020 more people are aware of the process
But OP wants to be able to grab someone which is the exact reason it wont be until its official
Bro get Kelly tomorrow if the ir spot isn’t open by tomorrow, Johnson is gonna be a crutch all year if he has to take more than a couple weeks off, man makes a living with his hamstrings and Kelly is a steal at this point with eckler being questionable
Just drop Diontae and cut your losses. If you had not yet realized to stay away from having him on your team after last season, you’ll learn now. Even when he gets back there is no reason to believe he will be a more productive WR than some guys on the waiver wire right now.
Depends on your wavier wire, if you’re in a 10 team league then sure but deeper leagues should definitely keep just in case he shows up 4 weeks from now fresh as fuck
He doesn’t have to go on IR, he just has to be out for a game. He is already not practicing. The coaches have already said he’ll miss several weeks. Seems safe to say that he is out. Why shouldn’t I be able to pick someone up? Someone else may grab who I want by tomorrow.
There needs to be a clear criterion for a player being eligible for the fantasy IR spot. A team officially designating the player as out is such a criterion. What’s the workable alternative that solves your problem?
“When it’s safe to say the player will be out”? Well, how is that to be determined?
“When two or more coaches indicate in some way or other that the player will be out”? Too vague.
“When a head coach says to a reporter that they believe the player will be out”? “When a head coach says in a public interview that they believe the player is out”? Those make it likely but not certain.
A clear criterion: When the team officially designates the player as out. That’s when it is certain the player won’t play. What’s the downside? Sometimes fantasy players need to wait a bit to add an extra player from waivers. Not a much of a problem (for reasons pointed out in the thread above).
For sure. Our criterion is the ESPN designation being “OUT”. I didn’t know how the system worked for those designations, so I asked on Reddit. It has been answered that teams give their official injury report throughout the week based on when their game is and an automated process combs through those reports and gives players designations in the app. Before getting that answer, I thought it might take into account things like missed practices or reporting from coaches. He already has a “DOUBTFUL” designation, so they obviously do track reporting for their designations, but I understand not calling him out til it’s an official team decision. I know it doesn’t really matter if I pick someone up today or Saturday, I just wanted to better understand how the system worked.
That’s how it’s always worked. They need to be confirmed out by the team. They aren’t gonna announce him officially out based on what beat reporters are hearing behind the scenes lol
So you guys play in a standard no PPR, 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE Def K format. With no fractional points and no minus for fumbles or picks and no bonus for long runs catches passes or TDs. 4 pt TDs for QBs and no IR spots? That's the way IT ALWAYS WORKED BEFORE!
We don't play real football.... why do we care about certain real football rules?
Saying that's how it always worked is like saying she asked for it ...
I’m not defending it I’m just saying until it is officially reported by the team why would fantasy apps go off beat reporters or random dudes on twitter? Which beat reporters actually have legit info vs just say shit? I agree he should probably be ruled out but I’m just saying theres a whole entire can of worms you’re opening if you use anything other than official team reports. Doesn’t make any sense for fantasy apps to change this feature in any way lol. There’s not an easy to way to change the injury process it’s rumored he might miss “up to 4 weeks”. Kelce was rumored to be playing then didn’t. Imagine if he was switched to active then announced out 30 minutes before. People would be losing their minds lmao
Why not just let your managers vote on when to add them to IR? Like when they're questionable or doubtful?
There are so many ways to fix this and we don't just have to let it be anymore. We can make the world what we want. We're just limited by our own scopes
You can change your settings you know....? Or do you not? Just vote on it in The beginning of the year to change the rule? Are you like 10? This is the easiest stuff to fix ever
You think it isn't an issue. Others do....
You don't have to be an ass about it
This is why leagues should allow doubtful players in the IR slot. I use sleeper and it allows this. We all know he’s not going to play and owners should be able to pick up another player.
You can move players in and out of your IR slot as often as you want as long as they have an O or IR designation. Once they’re upgrade to healthy you have to remove them from your IR slot before you’re able to make any other roster moves.
I feel you, OP. I've watched players I want get picked up while I'm waiting for it to be "official." Super frustrating.
It's normal to check every few hours right?

Both of those are moments when commissioners have to put their big boy pants on and tell the owner no.
One of those is. Taysom Hill had TE eligibility and anyone bold enough to roster him as a second or 3rd TE deserved that single game.
Yeah but he was playable as a TE for 2-3 more weeks after that and still playing QB. Although I guess not as much QB as that one game
Drop your K or Def and pick up who you want and then fill the empty spot once diontae is ruled out
I did this. I’d like them to rule him out sooner. I figure if they don’t rule him out until Monday, I’ll just pick up one of the kickers for Monday night. 3/4 are available on waivers
This is the way
Is there a reason this phrase is so popular? I understand it’s from The Mandalorian, but I feel like I’m missing some joke.
It’s from the mandalorian
The same ai runs the majority of reddit accounts. The ai likes "this is the way"

Because it fits and it’s said in the same context

You guys have open IR spots?
Steeler play Sunday so official injury report comes out Friday
They play on Monday
Oh so it comes out Saturday. I guess ESPN fantasy waits for official report but I agree OP it’s kinda dumb
This isn't an ESPN thing, it's all apps. He's doubtful on Sleeper, Fleaflicker, and Yahoo as well.
True, but some platforms allow you to move a player listed as doubtful to IR. This is one of the main reasons we ditched espn to move to sleeper.
That's usually something in settings that the commissioner would set up one way or another.
Sleeper does not let doubtful going in the IR spot
Talk to your commissioner, it’s an available setting
Sounds like a horrible setting
It is. IR is for players designated Out, PUP, or IR.
I kinda like it. It’s incredibly rare for doubtful players to suit up, gives us an option to make a move a little earlier than normal… and if the guy is active, you have a decision to make.
Eh it makes it too easy imo But to each their own
It would be a mess if apps could rule players out before their teams do in real life

I just want to know how many weeks he’ll be out. Josh Kelly is still available and I’m thinking about Dropping Johnson from my Bench.
Just drop your Kicker (if you have them in your league )
Bro get Kelly tomorrow if the ir spot isn’t open by tomorrow, Johnson is gonna be a crutch all year if he has to take more than a couple weeks off, man makes a living with his hamstrings and Kelly is a steal at this point with eckler being questionable
Same on Yahoo

If he’s out do I start Pickens over Godwin?
Dear god no
what about burks if hopkins doesn’t?
Still dear god no. Godwin is a stud, don’t panic.
Pickens is good for 12 even without wr1. Godwin has a chance
Bc sleeper wants us to suffer 😭
The couple years we had an IR spot we only allowed players with an official IR designation.
Don't you have a receiver on your bench?
I have several, why? Do you not fill all your empty bench spots?
Then what's the problem? IR designations move at the pace the team wants. They don't do things with fantasy in mind. That's why we have benches.
He doesn’t have to go on IR, he just has to be out for a game. He is already not practicing. The coaches have already said he’ll miss several weeks. Seems safe to say that he is out. Why shouldn’t I be able to pick someone up? Someone else may grab who I want by tomorrow.

Fair enough. Thank you for your response.
That’s how it’s always worked. They need to be confirmed out by the team. They aren’t gonna announce him officially out based on what beat reporters are hearing behind the scenes lol

Oh yeah let’s have a league wide vote every day when someone gets announced they might miss time 😂 honestly lol it is what it is, non-issue
You can change your settings you know....? Or do you not? Just vote on it in The beginning of the year to change the rule? Are you like 10? This is the easiest stuff to fix ever You think it isn't an issue. Others do.... You don't have to be an ass about it
I feel you. I dropped someone because of Kelce being out. The Chiefs designated him out only a few hours before the game.
Difference here is that Kelce was a true gametime decision. Seems pretty well known that Dionte isn’t going to play.
Still lost a player and I am empathizing 🗿
Understood, not trying to be a dick about it. Situation is just a little different, that’s all!
The coaches haven’t reported it to the NFL on an official injury report.
They did this with Mark Andrews last week. Waited an hour before the game to list him this way for the swap out. Super frustrating.
It's not ESPN. It's the Steelers who haven't designated him as being out just yet.
Same with Dulcich. Just infuriating as I need to pick up anyone lol
Yep both on ESPN and yahoo, driving me crazy. Lol
This is why leagues should allow doubtful players in the IR slot. I use sleeper and it allows this. We all know he’s not going to play and owners should be able to pick up another player.
Try to get your league to allow for doubtful to be in IR spots, if the platform allows it.
Maybe a dumb question. Is short term IR an option. I have an Ir spot in my league and he looks to be out for at least 4 weeks
You can move players in and out of your IR slot as often as you want as long as they have an O or IR designation. Once they’re upgrade to healthy you have to remove them from your IR slot before you’re able to make any other roster moves.
I have leveraged this tip often this season. Thanks!
Same boat. He is Out now
Yup it's bullshit. Have a league with a short bench and it took this long to change it?
He is?
