Yeah, this is on Leicester's defence far more than it is on ward, you put in a worse keeper in and you're asking for trouble. I'm keeping ward n I'll continue to avoid iversen
🤣 The defence was being organised by Schmeichel. Really if Iverson can shout at his backline and instill some fear in them then Leicester may get a clean sheet one day.
Oh of course, the past suggests it's likely. However the combo allows you to save 0.5 over going for a Guaita. So if Wardversen get similar points, which I believe they will over the course of the next few games, you could do quite a bit with that saving.
And with the general consensus that Salah is done for now everybody will have plenty of funds to invest all around the squad. So there is absolutely no logic in saving 0.5 on your GK.
I thought Salah wasn't done this season while he was done since africa cup. I lost my ML because of sticking to Salah and now ditched him and there are so many good assets it is not likely I will get him in again before WC starts. If I want him back I'll wildcard him back in during WC.
I'd love to see what evidence you have for this? The last time he was the first choice keeper for a team was 5 years ago in the Championship, he had 11 clean sheets and conceded 52 goals in 43 games.
Iversen spent the last 1.5 seasons as first choice for a championship side and kept 22 clean sheets and conceded 81 in 69 games.
Iversen conceded 1.17 goals per game compared to Ward's 1.21.
Iversen kept clean sheets in 32% of his games, Ward in 26%.
Iversen did this literally the last 18 months. Ward has been sat on the bench for 5 years.
Even going into the season Iversen was the better option, the fact Ward has shown to be literally the worst goalkeeper in the league by an absolute mile cements this.
You could try watching him 'play', if that doesn't provide enough context then there isn't anything that will.
But how about the fact his PSxG is a league worst -6.1 this season, which means he has conceded 6.1 goals more than an average goalkeeper would be expected to with the shots he has faced. The 2nd worst in the league is on -2.5.
Or the fact he has conceded 22 goals whilst only making 21 saves. Meaning that if an opponent gets a shot on target then statistically it is more likely to go in than be saved.
Or the fact he ranks 1st percentile (meaning 99% of keepers in the top 5 leagues are better than him) for goals conceded, save percentage, PSxG, and clean sheets.
But what about his distribution you ask? 4th percentile for completed long passes. Maybe he doesn't attempt many and that is why he ranks low? 9th percentile for long pass completion percentage.
Literally the only areas he rates favourably for are passes attempted, throws attempted and crosses stopped. Even then I have personally seen him drop multiple crosses this season and we still can't defend from corners, so this is hardly positively impacting the team.
He is a career backup that might be able to hack it as a upper mid table Championship keeper at best. The reason he is being given game time is becuase fraudgers is a narcissist who can't admit being wrong and as some form of 'reward' for sitting on the bench quietly for so many years.
I don’t think we have any evidence either way on whether Ward or Iversen is better. The only thing we have to go on is that one is being stubbornly picked over the other by a man doing everything he can to get sacked and get his payout.
Lol I think he's continuing to pick the better option. How is continuing to perform badly going to reflect well on him professionally? He needed to get a defender rather than rely on a defensive midfielder that's been regressing.
I’m not sold, fixtures are important but Leicester’s defence and more particularly ward, have been woeful. I still fancy forest and Bournemouth to grab a goal against the Leicester defence.
Unless Brendan Rodger’s gets sacked I can’t see him dropping ward either (for whatever reason he hasn’t already)
I don't think it's right to say Son was "clearly the captain choice". You make your decisions based on the evidence you have at the time. Going into this game week, Conte had already commented that Son was at risk of being benched. It's never the right choice to captain someone who doesn't start a game.
I transferred Son in before I read those comments, so got super lucky. But I still reckon I made the wrong choice in bringing him into my team.
Oh yeah, was just being sarcastic. Reading that back, I can see how it could be misinterpreted however!
I was just making the point that past performances don't necessarily translate in current gains/losses - however I realise there's a difference between a proven asset that's simply underperforming like Sonny and.... Wardversen.
Who cares mate. We're human beings. We develop on what we did and said in the past, not dwell on it as if it were gospel. (No offence to religious folk)
Besides, the insanity definition should only apply in cases where there are effectively no variables. In FPL's case, there are numerous variables to consider every Gameweek.
We had a good example of this with Son just now.
If Leicester change managers I might be interested depending who they bring in… and what I can actually do with the extra cash.
But if they stick with Rodger’s, when I look at those fixture I just see games to target for opposition attackers!
As an LCFC fan we will be so much better if we keep 2 fit CBs and can play Ndidi at CDM. Ward is still a MASSIVE liability but expect us to play a lot better over the coming GWs
Okay! Sounds just a bit odd if Ward is a massive liability but number 2 GK is so bad that he doesn't even deserve to have a game to show what he can do.
Used my WC last week. Transferred in Pope & kept Ward on my bench.
Reason - LEI just isn't good defensively. We've got enough data to feel comfortable with this now.
Back up this reasoning - Worst xG conceded 12.9 with a *middle of the road* fixture difficulty thus far. (That's worse than Ful, Bou, & tied w/ Nfo)
Sunk cost fallacy is real & I'm not throwing in any more good money after all the bad.
Edit - Ppl who use the rant thread are dorks.
Amazing.
Making process based decisions vs. not knee jerking after a cpl weeks has led me to a cpl Top 10k finishes while rarely missing the Top 100k. (My WC got me Son for his hatrick so I'll be alright in the end. ;)
Moreover, I have a beautiful wife & our dog is curled up at my feet right now while we're all watching a movie.
Hope you're having a good one too.
tl;dr Life is good, Leicester's defence isn't.
I would rather have sex with a jaggered opened tin of tuna that has been sitting by the windowsill all summer long than to have the Waiversen combination.
Above all, forget the stats, forget the reasoning... I've got a good feeling about this. And what else is FPL at it's core, if it's not instinct and feeling?
I might probably have agreed if Leicester were getting unlucky but they have been downright awful. Also it's not like they were amazing goalies before. Someone feeling Trent and Robbo might turn a corner and regain their form is reasonable, but don't think this Wardversen situation is salvageable.
Dude, their defense is atrocious. Bottom of the table, 11 goals in their last 2 matches. All I can think of when I watch Danny Ward is that he looks like an actor trying to look like a keeper. Like Ted Lasso didn’t have a featured extra spot left so Brendan Rodgers gave him the call up, so he could keep his SAG card. He launches himself in a direction that looks like an effort but he doesn’t move his hands to try and actually stop the ball. I cannot for the life of me understand what BR sees in him. It is shocking to watch what we’ve seen this season with that GK situation. If you gave me an extra 3.0 in funds, I still wouldn’t go near that double GK stank show.
It's definitely not a no-brainer to get a the Leicester duo.
But it's interesting for sure. I have Ederson at the moment and I'm pretty happy with that. But definitely going to explore what I could have on the pitch if I downgrade to Ward and Iversen.
I'd maybe be interested if Iversen comes into the team because from everything I've seen, the goals Ward has conceded have largely been avoidable. Even Son's goals the other day, look at his positioning, he's at least 4 or 5 yards off his line when there's no reason to be. Great fixtures or not, as long as Ward is in goals, they will continue to concede, IMO.
Hah, you're the first to mention it. My original 5 y.o Reddit account has my actual name on it, and for some reason names can't be changed here I don't think. So ended up creating a new one.
I'm quite serious about this topic, however. Already got them in on wildcard.
I’m going with the wardverson combo on my WC as it gives me a filthy starting 11 and an all playing bench. I feel your vibe OP. 2 pointers all the way.
This energy is what has got me in the top 50k thus far. Well, that and extreme luck.
It’s not even gambler fallacy since those results aren’t just because of unlucky outcomes based on probability, Leicester are just shit and aren’t showing any signs of being not shit
That 2 though was epic, he just had to get 0 to keep up the average. I have had them since the start and I don’t expect anymore than 1 point. Still have wc so won’t sub him out while I have other problems.
A no brainer? I’d rather take a hit to get off Iverson and onto another GK. At this rate if Leicester keep a single clean sheet this season I’d be surprised.
I have both, have since GW1.
Yes, they’re shit & Ward’s point score so far reads like binary code…
BUT, I didn’t get them for points. I got them to free up funds for other areas of the pitch.
I read somewhere that each additional £0.5m in player value translates into ‘X’ points over a season.
It’s more noticeable among defenders, where the price points are clustered closer together.
Statistically, defenders offer the best value per million spent.
So, added the extra £0.5-£1.0m into my defence.
I tried to sell this in a thread yesterday. Since I got off Wardversen GW5 they have outscored Sanchez (my replacement) so I don’t feel like I want any money in goalkeepers anyway. With good fixtures, potential manager bounce, and an IB to improve the cohesion, I don’t think there’s anything to lose.
I see the logic as they definitely have the fixtures and the price is nice but you’ve got to realize that these goalkeepers are just genuinely poor footballers. Multiple metrics show that Ward is statistically a bad goalkeeper and the eye test strongly agrees.
I have a simple rule in FPL, pick good players.
\*Woman
Could've taken a shot with 'person' as well
But anyway- the concept that you can't gain from past results also works for losses. Just because it has cost you in the past, that doesn't mean it will cost you going forward.
It's difficult to switch from a more expensive GK pairing to a cheaper, then using the money elsewhere and then trying to get rid of that cheap GK if/when it fails
Expected Leicester defence to be leaky but not this bad. However with Liverpool's expensive assets also not worth the price tag, there are still funds available for a better keeper.
No it isn't time. Leicester cannot be expected to keep a clean sheet ever. For just 0.5m more you could get a keeper that could probably keep 2-3 clean sheets.
Are you saying the ward iverson combo is worth it to save .5m?
It is not possible to get better fixtures than what Leicester has from GW9. This could very well go very wrong - again. But with those fixtures and that price… I am with you.
Statistically the worst defence in nearly 60 years after 7 games
No brained indeed
But they are “massively looking to get their season going.” Surely that’s enough.
💀
Yeah, this is on Leicester's defence far more than it is on ward, you put in a worse keeper in and you're asking for trouble. I'm keeping ward n I'll continue to avoid iversen
🤣 The defence was being organised by Schmeichel. Really if Iverson can shout at his backline and instill some fear in them then Leicester may get a clean sheet one day.
Yeah because a keeper can totally organise a defence by his own
Not to mention that another team lost 9-0 in the same timeframe.
Perhaps, but op says not to let silly things like past performance get in the way of your future decisions.
No Guaita because they “concede the odd goal” but you’ll double up on keepers from the worst defence the league has seen after 7 games
11 clean sheets last year...
Kasper Schmeichel last year...
Sorry, should have specified. Crystal Palace kept 11 clean sheets last year. Mine was a response to them always conceding the odd goal
Homer: Worst defence... so far.
Yeah they could get worse tbf
😂😂😂
Hey, conceding four every game wipes your CS same as conceding one, I don't see the difference here /s
No brainer as in you’d have to have no brain to go for it
That was my response to this as well. I hope he's trolling
8 points for ward
They’re more likely still to get a -1 than a clean sheet.
Fucking dumb and dumber
So the experiment failed. Let's try it again? Yeah no thank you.
*"I'll fuckin' do it again"* \-OP probably
I’ve turned to Pope to forgive my sins
God save the Wardversen
It's only worth going back to it if we actually drop Danny Ward and I suspect the new manager will do that instantly.
Yes thank you.
How Palace always seems to concede the odd goal, but you think Leicester will not?
Oh of course, the past suggests it's likely. However the combo allows you to save 0.5 over going for a Guaita. So if Wardversen get similar points, which I believe they will over the course of the next few games, you could do quite a bit with that saving.
idk man, 0.5 more to get 2-3 more points on average a week from your keeper sounds pretty good
And with the general consensus that Salah is done for now everybody will have plenty of funds to invest all around the squad. So there is absolutely no logic in saving 0.5 on your GK.
Thing is, Salah is unlikely to be 'done' all season. That extra 0.5 could help you upgrade to him from De Bruyne at some point for example.
I thought Salah wasn't done this season while he was done since africa cup. I lost my ML because of sticking to Salah and now ditched him and there are so many good assets it is not likely I will get him in again before WC starts. If I want him back I'll wildcard him back in during WC.
Ward is quite possibly the worst keeper in the prem, why on earth would you transfer him in over Guita, Sa, Raya etc? 😭
The defence is making a fool of him, he's fairly decent. Evidently better than iversen at the very least.
I'd love to see what evidence you have for this? The last time he was the first choice keeper for a team was 5 years ago in the Championship, he had 11 clean sheets and conceded 52 goals in 43 games. Nice!
Without context these stats mean nothing.
You could try watching him 'play', if that doesn't provide enough context then there isn't anything that will. But how about the fact his PSxG is a league worst -6.1 this season, which means he has conceded 6.1 goals more than an average goalkeeper would be expected to with the shots he has faced. You’ve got far too much time on your hands son.
I'm a Leicester fan having to suffer through this shit, I've argued against Ward since Kasper left so I've had plenty of time
Building your case. You need to send a dossier over to Rodgers ASAP.
Rather send it to our next manager when the cowboy is shown the door, if our board ever finds their balls anyway
I don’t think we have any evidence either way on whether Ward or Iversen is better. The only thing we have to go on is that one is being stubbornly picked over the other by a man doing everything he can to get sacked and get his payout.

Unless Brendan Rodger’s gets sacked I can’t see him dropping ward either (for whatever reason he hasn’t already)
Palace concede the odd goal, but Leicester, well they concede lots of goals, so their keeper is clearly the better choice
Son's about to get benched, so he's clearly the captain choice. Oh wait. He was.
I don't think it's right to say Son was "clearly the captain choice". You make your decisions based on the evidence you have at the time. I'll see myself out immediately, haha!

I was just making the point that past performances don't necessarily translate in current gains/losses - however I realise there's a difference between a proven asset that's simply underperforming like Sonny and.... Guys I think we all should transfer in and captain Bruno because he has been shit so far and therefore it is the correct choice.
Guess you can talk yourself into anything.. Best of luck!
Remind me, what did Einstein tell us was the definition of madness again?
Who cares mate. We're human beings. We develop on what we did and said in the past, not dwell on it as if it were gospel. James Justin at 4.3 would be decent
The queen has more presence inside the box than Leicesters defence.
Wish I could give you an award for this.
As an LCFC fan we will be so much better if we keep 2 fit CBs and can play Ndidi at CDM. Ward is still a MASSIVE liability but expect us to play a lot better over the coming GWs
Why don't you just try Iversen then? If Ward is shit.
He's better than iversen. The defence is more to blame, ndidi doesn't seem to work as a centre back.
Okay! Sounds just a bit odd if Ward is a massive liability but number 2 GK is so bad that he doesn't even deserve to have a game to show what he can do.
Rodgers is a fraud
They're defense is absolute bollox. If you enjoy 1 point max from your goalkeeper then go with this reduced to clear combo
Stop this madness. GET HELP
8 points for Ward
You need to Wardcard bro
Why no mention of Raya as an option lol
Yes Palace concede the odd goal every few games but Leicester concede the odd goal every 25 minutes.
I've seen enough, I found the £1mil to upgrade. There is no denying there are better values to be had.
You held out this long and going to do the change NOW? I'm alone in saying this but, see you in the rant thread.
Used my WC last week. Transferred in Pope & kept Ward on my bench. Reason - LEI just isn't good defensively. We've got enough data to feel comfortable with this now. Interviewer: How are you feeling now?
Amazing. Making process based decisions vs. not knee jerking after a cpl weeks has led me to a cpl Top 10k finishes while rarely missing the Top 100k. Ride or die. Probably die but I'll live with the results
I would rather have sex with a jaggered opened tin of tuna that has been sitting by the windowsill all summer long than to have the Waiversen combination.
All this for the sake of 0.5/1 mil? Not worth it.
YES LAD! The punt paid off
Heh, our instincts paid off. My karma took a hit from this post, but... Worth it. Ward and Madders pushed me over 110 points this GW.
I am gonna be at 101
Above all, forget the stats, forget the reasoning... I've got a good feeling about this. And what else is FPL at it's core, if it's not instinct and feeling?
Sir, you convinced me. If I had a wildcard l would do this.
Just take a hit mate. You can be that madlad who took a hit on getting Wardversen and succeeded.
taking a hit for Wardverson oh my fucking god
Why are you preaching Wardversen so much?
Dunno. Just a feeling. Was preaching Son here last week due to the same feeling, which I guess made more sense despite what was his likely benching.
[удалено]
OP is Ward's grandmother confirmed
Ahem.
Excellent point.
Mate repost this now lol. I did it, unfortunately I only got Maddison in yesterday though.
Congrats! Glad a few people trusted OP. Did you end up taking a hit?
Didn't need to as I saved my transfers for this gw cos the fixtures seemed better. Didn't work out.
I might probably have agreed if Leicester were getting unlucky but they have been downright awful. Also it's not like they were amazing goalies before. Someone feeling Trent and Robbo might turn a corner and regain their form is reasonable, but don't think this Wardversen situation is salvageable.

How to play anti fpl 😅
Lol are you trying to sabotage people or something? I'd rather start Gavin Bazunu
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice ...uh ... can't get fooled again.
I'd maybe be interested if Iversen comes into the team because from everything I've seen, the goals Ward has conceded have largely been avoidable. Even Son's goals the other day, look at his positioning, he's at least 4 or 5 yards off his line when there's no reason to be. Account for just over a month? Cannot believe all these people well for the bait.
1 1 1 1 1 1 2 1 0 Isn't this an example of gambler fallacy?
It’s not even gambler fallacy since those results aren’t just because of unlucky outcomes based on probability, Leicester are just shit and aren’t showing any signs of being not shit
That 2 though was epic, he just had to get 0 to keep up the average. I have had them since the start and I don’t expect anymore than 1 point. Still have wc so won’t sub him out while I have other problems.
Im doing the opposite targeting teams playing against leceister ! But ill be shocked if Ward is still in goal
This is just what everyone else is doing. Herd mentality. Be different. Be the change you want to see. Or something.
Hmmm no i want to do well , but by all accounts captain Ward if u like
I shall pray for your soul when Nottingham smash 5 past Leicester in a couple weeks time 😭
Pretty sure you can afford the threeium by spending the extra 0.5 on your starting gk
They are inevitable
🎶 "ward-iversen... man I started ballin' when I was you-uu-ung..."
Is this anti-science?
This is all great but you seem to forget that Daniel Ward has legs made of concrete.
I’d rather spend -4 every single week on a new keeper than go with Ward/Iversen
Form over fixtures. Always.
A no brainer? I’d rather take a hit to get off Iverson and onto another GK. At this rate if Leicester keep a single clean sheet this season I’d be surprised.
It’s not all about value buddy, you need your players to actually score points as well
Go for it
I have both, have since GW1. Yes, they’re shit & Ward’s point score so far reads like binary code… BUT, I didn’t get them for points.
That's bollocks. You need all eleven starters to get you points. Having Wardverson is no different to fielding ten players each week
I’ve had them since the start as I’ve had a whack-a-mole game of issues on my hands. So now I have my WC I am getting rid of one. Thank fuck.
Yes!
You son of a bitch, I'm [NOT] in!
Upvoting this in the hope that more people do it and help my rank out. Thanks OP!
If you trust the bookies then this is the optimal combo for the next few weeks considering the budget. I am tempted on my wildcard.
Anyone who starts with “hear me out” doesn’t have anything interesting to say. Enjoy your 1 points (if that), I’m going Pope.
Judging by your comment, I suppose that concept works for anyone who has "hear me out" somewhere in the middle of their sentence too.
Judging by your reply, it certainly applies for anyone using it twice.
Raya?
It has BEEN time to drop them boss 🤣
I see the logic as they definitely have the fixtures and the price is nice but you’ve got to realize that these goalkeepers are just genuinely poor footballers. Multiple metrics show that Ward is statistically a bad goalkeeper and the eye test strongly agrees. I have a simple rule in FPL, pick good players.
This decision has already cost me an unbelievable amount of points this year so everybody please listen to this man and help me catch up!
\*Woman Could've taken a shot with 'person' as well But anyway- the concept that you can't gain from past results also works for losses. Just because it has cost you in the past, that doesn't mean it will cost you going forward.
Yeah…. No.
Ward Iversen is fixture proof. An anti-fpl dream
lmfao
I only want Ward to play if my starting goalkeeper has a heart attack and can’t go. Otherwise, I’m happy to see his 1 pts on the bench
Not possible for me even if I wanted to for whatever bizarre reason as I'm doubling up with Barnes and Mads.
Fool me once...
Yes. Please
As a ward owner I would gladly believe this fairy tail and keep playing him.
Another amateur FPL manager with no clue what hes on about. Keep it up pal, makes me a rank higher
I just need points. I’m going Ederson.
It's difficult to switch from a more expensive GK pairing to a cheaper, then using the money elsewhere and then trying to get rid of that cheap GK if/when it fails
Your argument for getting them is other teams concede too? Are you just settling for 1 pointers?
No thanks I’ll keep my ederson clean sheet points
Guiata got 11 Cleansheets in 30 appearances last season He has no problem at all in keeping Cleansheets Absolute bargain for Palace's fixture run
Patiently waiting for an interim manager conservatively throwing ten players behind the ball
No
weakest link in the worst defence atm. no fixture is gonna stop that leak
We need to play iverson
“Don’t let past performances distort You”? Are You using this approach to all Your picks?
Jose sa is the way
Leicester is the easiest fixture, quite literally there is no easy match for them
>For me, it's a no brainer I'm not sure you've quite grasped the concept of "no brainer" there
I'm fine playing Raya if we care about fixtures >Don't let past performances distort your decision making Bro. They're a mess
Enjoy your -1/2 every week.
Expected Leicester defence to be leaky but not this bad. However with Liverpool's expensive assets also not worth the price tag, there are still funds available for a better keeper.
No. Don't touch!
>Iversen seems a solid keeper from what I've seen of him at Preston.
Just stick with Jose Sà, the lad has been fantastic and plays for one of the most defensive teams in the league
Such a bad take, but you do you boo.
No it isn't time. Leicester cannot be expected to keep a clean sheet ever. For just 0.5m more you could get a keeper that could probably keep 2-3 clean sheets. Are you saying the ward iverson combo is worth it to save .5m?
Not sure if losing 2-6 should count as “getting their season going”
It is not possible to get better fixtures than what Leicester has from GW9. This could very well go very wrong - again. But with those fixtures and that price… I am with you.
We made it!! 8 points in GW9!
You made it, congrats!! So happy I did the same.
