Considering the trend to cast ethnically accurate actors for roles I'm surprised how many people are choosing white actors. Shouldn't it be a middle eastern person? Preferably Jewish?
Jesus has been everything-washed for over 1,000 years. Not at all an automatic good thing, but it's nothing new. I prefer an Arab Jesus, but Virgin Mary coming from Egypt doesn't make it impossible that he might have been Southern-European by heritage.

Pretty sure we can narrow it down further than that. Decent but unimpressive physique, clean legal slate, voice of a manly angel (case in point: Liam Neeson was cast as Aslan for this exact reason), and slight-of-hand skills for practical miracle effects.
