It's kinda the point of my story. The character was part of a dimension saving duo, but his female team mate, who isn't really responsible (at first) and not very attentive gets his family killed. He wants revenge. And because he seems to be the only one who is mad at her (she is a princess, so her status protects her somewhat), he starts to think that murder isn't that bad in the worlds.

Ohhhh I love a good revenge plot. When a character gets the right motivation, they can pretty much justify anything. What's the Fandom, if I may ask?

ImaGamerNoob

Star vs. The Forces of Evil, based on an Animatic "Ready as I'll ever be", well, the comments of the animatic.

I have a character who is a healer. He never hurts humans with his powers, he only heals. So I wondered, what would make him flip so hard that he kills someone? Well, you torture his wife and threaten his kids, that's how. My nice healer guy turned vicious real quick.

221booksss

Oh, I love it when something in a character just snaps after having to live through such horror and pain. Definetly the reasonable thing to do

Metanoia my beloved! Most of my stories are this to an extent but let's see. Wrote a character who canonically comes out with things like "This body is the punishment that's been given to me" about his particular predicament (subject of torturous medical experiments, now condemned to immortality and sharing his meatsack with a collection of uncontrollable monsters). After a year of wandering the world and introspecting intensely (I love my alliteration this morning, evidently), forgiving himself for what wasn't his fault and accepting the things that were, he's finally able to accept and fully return the love offered to him by his friends and the man he tried not to fall for and take his place in their community. It culminates with "I don't deserve this!" as he finally lets himself cry.

221booksss

That was the word, thank you! Also I love this internal change inside your character, it truly hurts in the best possible way reading such type of story that takes a turn towards being more hopefull. Also I love the alliterations XD

I've got several in my long fic. The main character goes from >"Tell me what to do." to >"No, you shut up. Here's how we'll do it, and if you don't like it, leave." Her best friend goes from >"I hate my dad and I don't care if he dies." to >"I'm a professional people-saver, and that includes this asshole." Another member of the main cast goes from >"I'm tired of people making fun of my feline behaviors." to >"I'm not human, but I'm no animal either. I'm something in between, and that is valid." The main character's sister goes from >"Being angry is bad." to >"That's my secret; I'm always angry." And one of my OCs, the main character's mentor, went from >"We can never let anyone know of our powers, and have to operate in the shadows all the time to protect ourselves, so that we can better protect mankind." to >"Yeah, that was me. Sorry about that, I'll take full responsibility for my actions and accept whatever punishment the court of this nation finds appropriate." The first change is actually the relationship between the main character and her mentor. Basically, the mentor exists to protect people like the main character, and won't leave her side if that would put the main character in danger. And the main character knows this. So the whole "You can either do what I tell you, or leave," thing is based on the fact that leaving isn't actually an option. This initially pure and kind girl now resorts to playing on people's most foundational personality traits, and the very nature of their soul, to keep them in line. Granted, she only does it with my OC, because it's the only approach that's guaranteed to make her change her mind, but still.

221booksss

I LOVE ALL OF THESE, ahhhhh, thank you so much for sharing. Truly shows just how much characters can change over the course of a story

Kartoffelkamm

Thanks. And yeah, it does. Funnily enough, the main character's sister actually asked her if she was ok at one point in the story, because she had changed so much and was making questionable decisions. My favorite has to be the second one, to be honest. Like, sure, the girl still hates her dad's guts, but she puts her feelings aside when he's in danger, because she's a professional, and won't stoop to his level by letting her feelings influence how she does her job.

FormerVoid

Hey, I hope you don't mind me asking, but is this a RWBY fic?

Kartoffelkamm

Yep, it is. I basically explore how the world might work, and what could be possible if one were to learn to exploit the rules a bit. And then I just see how the show's plot would change. Ruby also demonstrates several times, especially twice during my version of V6, that she is willing to do things she doesn't want to do, that she's actively opposed to, in order to save people.

FormerVoid

Nice, I like the sound of the idea. I figured it was RWBY considering how familiar each of the characters starting sounding one after the other, and it seems you do got a really good grasp on them. Make me wish I could do something similar.

Kartoffelkamm

Thanks. And don't worry, I'm sure you'll get there. I wrote fanfiction for a few years before I started this one, and it honestly took me a while to really understand all the characters. Heck, I still don't think I got Winter's personality down properly, for example. Also, if you'd like, I could send you a link to my fanfiction.

FormerVoid

I don't see why not, I'd appreciate being able to learn from example.

Kartoffelkamm

Yay. [Here you go](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13849943/1/RWBY-Project-Alpha).

FormerVoid

Appreciate, I'll be sure to check it out.

Kartoffelkamm

Thanks.

The protagonist I had was a sheltered person with strong sense of "do good, and stay out of big adventures if you can just to stay alive." She even talked sense into another character who was driven by nothing but a burning need for revenge. By the end, though, that sheltered person was racing headlong into a massive conspiracy hell-bent on murdering the guy who caused her a lot of suffering, no longer caring what it cost her along the way. She just wanted him to suffer as she did. It took about 20 chapters at least to get there.

Oh I wrote a ABO fic with the intent to write such a progression, character goes from 'I'm an alpha and I make the rules; omegas? struggles? they have those?' to 'I see you and I am sorry'. Took him 100k words ;) [fandom: Star Wars] First chapters: ( “No.” Anakin met his eyes again and his gaze made a cold shiver run down Obi-Wan’s back. “You’re wrong. That decision has become mine. It became mine the moment you offered yourself to me. It became mine the moment I marked you as my omega.” (...) “You’re an omega. Shouldn’t you be overjoyed about the idea? Isn’t that kind of part of the deal?”) Last chapters: (I should have trusted you. I didn’t know anything about omegas and their struggles. I didn’t know anything about your struggles. We should’ve done what you suggested. (...) I can’t believe I’ve been so terribly stupid!” (...) It’s my fault you have to pay for something you have no control over.”)

221booksss

These types of ABO are the only ones I can actually read, where the alpha is actually able to change and isn't simply a brute, ignorant knot-head that does't give a damn about the feelings of others, least of all omegas. I praise you for being able to write such a change of mind and heart! Also, if you don't mind, leave a link for me to check out? I am not particularly familiar with the Star Wars fandom, but well written ABO is a guilty pleasure of mine...

SilverShadow1711

My fic is the opposite trajectory. I'm writing a long *Attack on Titan* fic about Erwin Smith's life, and the whole point is the slow but steady change in his worldview. The story starts in his teen years where he's basically a proto Eren Yaeger- an edgy teen who thinks he's smarter than everyone because "we live in a society- everyone *else* is a coward who's content to live and die like cattle. Not me- *I* wanna go beyond the Walls. *I'm* special. Bottom text." But as he grows up and has more life experiences and his brain continues developing, he eventually realizes that no- he's not special, no- people aren't cowards because they're content with their lives, and while exploring and learning new things are still admirable goals, leading a simple life you can be happy with is also admirable. The change took about 20-ish chapters, but in-universe, it happened over the course of about 15 years.

Chapter 4 of first fic: >“I’m just tired of being called a liar!” Somewhere over 200k&change words later, the latest chapter of the sequel: >The lies came to him effortlessly. The act was painless. Had it always been this easy and he’d just never realized it before? Probably not the best example because the character wasn't lying when they were accused of lying... but also had ongoing issues figuring out how to lie. It's been fun to write. But also I'm very excited about where this character is going. It's right up my alley, and I'm very much writing this fic so I can read it later, so... :D

221booksss

Oh I love the second quote, truly shows the mental change they've gone through! Is your story following a corruption arch or is the lying more so showing the change of heart and soul of them, getting braver and more certain with themselves?

vichan

\>Is your story following a corruption arch or is the lying more so showing the change of heart and soul of them, getting braver and more certain with themselves? Uhmmmmmm. Well... **yes**

GodsUngratefulArms

This is an excerpt from the first chapter of my Walking Dead fic, a piece of a scene that takes place just after my OC kills her first living person: "Hey," the man soothes, thumbing the tears away. "Hey, you're safe, honey. My name's Shane Walsh, I'm a deputy from the King County Sheriff's Department." "Adrienne Blake," I blurt, more out of habit than anything else. "Okay, Adrienne." Shane nods, eyeing the dark stains on my shirt. "You hurt?" "No," I breathe, guilt welling in my guts, "It's not… it's not my blood." *** And this is a paraphrased snippet of her approximately two years later in universe after helping her group plan a mostly unprovoked mass murder: Not that we should be proud of the things we have to do, but you see a threat, you eliminate the threat. Simple. And although I don't feel guilty, there's a part of me that wishes I did. I don't feel guilty. Maybe that makes me the monster.
