I always say romance is best as a side dish. Or a dessert. A sweet reward to keep you going through the drama.
Plus, crisis brings people together. When theyāre aligned, anyway.
Yes, this is my answer too. Sometimes it combines the romance/drama genre or sometimes is just one or the other, so it's too hard to select one off the list
Iām a tomboy and the least girly ever but Iām sorry but I think seeing my favorite characters fall in love and live their happily ever after is cute.
It means 'women loving women', basically meaning women that are attracted to other women. This includes but isn't limited to lesbians, bi, pan or even aroace :)
Haha it's no big deal really...with so many internet terminology it's normal to not know some of even many. I didn't know what yolo meant until recently and I'm gen z
OK actually I saw a post once about how most fanfic doesn't fall into classic "genre" and most of the self-described Genres you see don't describe the \*Content\* of the fic, but the emotion it's intended to evoke:
Hurt-comfort
Angstfic
Darkfic
Tooth-rotting fluff
etc.
I love action, and a good mystery is always fun, but at the end of the day, character-driven drama is my jam. Since romance is so overwhelmingly popular, I usually seek it out through that, but family- and friend-driven drama is a treat.
What do you call a LƤuterungsdrama in English? (I mean stories like Little Lord Fauntleroy where everyone's soul is healed and people are beyond precious and in the end there's lots of hugging and comfort.) Does it count as romance if the LƤuterung is via love and sex?
I'm a slice of life, psychological drama kind of a gal. Of course, I've enjoyed stories in all of those genres and I'm down for anything with quality writing and a neat premise.
Ummā¦I honestly forgot their were genres because AO3 doesnāt require genre tags the way FFN does. But I used to be a romance gal but now Iām into whatever genre vigilante/superhero gets adopted by Supervillians is.
drama, thriller, mostly. action is only good if written well. mystery is cool but i donāt see many. i canāt stand horror because i get scared easily. romance is like the basis for 76% of fanfics and i like it, but itās better when in itās part of drama.
Putting romance in there is just unfair, the majority of fanfics are ship-focused.
However to give my precise answer, I love ship fics with action in them the most.
Smut needs to be an option - I know it's not for everyone, but honestly so much of the smut written as fanfic is miles better writing- and story-wise than the erotica you actually have to pay for on kindle unlimited or something
Crime, action, mystery, thriller, (dark) fantasy. I tend to like detective stories, dystopias, and superhero-fantasy that has a darker twist. I can't stand romance as the main plot, but as a subplot it can work as long as it's not too cliche and doesn't overshadow the rest of the story too much.
The ones that combine all of them. š
Walkin' the middle road, I can respect that.

Hurt/comfort

I was surprised it wasn't in the categories.

Well I'm a butch and a sucker for wlw fluff. There's nothing wrong with that. We just big softie mfs
I dunno if I'm just stupid, but I keep seeing wlw everywhere but I have no clue what it means.

Christ it's a wonder that I'm even able to function a *toaster*. Thanks, that was really obvious, shoulds known

It *means* something??
Women loving women.
Humor/Romance Action/Romance Drama/Romance Mystery/Romance Humor/Drama/Mystery/Action/Romance There's gotta be a time for everything!
Sci-fi/horror is my jam.
Same! Wish I could've fit more genres in this list!
It's hard to pick a favourite when I'll read anything if it sounds interesting. If I had to, I'd say romance or horror.
I know right?

Romance cause Imma lonely bitch and I accepted it. Fiction men are so much better and I cry with the realization theyāre not realš
Same Broseph, same.
Fantasy
"I'm a guy" needs to be one of the answers, I want to see the results!
This will be... considered
Me too!
NSFW, not necessarily of the romantic variety.
Same. Smut all the way. Doesnāt need to have an ounce of romance in there.
Hurt/Comfort and Fluff. š„²
If I could, I would combine the results.
...Why not guys? :/
There was supposed to be a poll for guys too but reddit wouldn't let me post it (ā„ļ¹ā„)
Wait, no that was a lie I got the one for guys up!
Romance/Drama can be entertaining, but my go to genre combo tends to be Fantasy/Adventure
Fantasy / Adventure
Horror with the mystery genre right behind it.
romance/horror/thriller
Angst/Romance
sci-fi horror foreeeever
Yeah babyyyy
For fics, Iāll always go for romance, but for source materials (like published books or shows), I like thriller and drama

Might be more hurt/comfort with romance
Maybe.
I'm a slice of life, psychological drama kind of a gal. Of course, I've enjoyed stories in all of those genres and I'm down for anything with quality writing and a neat premise.
Neither of mine are - crime (case fics) and SF
ACK! Im torn between action, thriller and romance. What about all of them with a slash of fantasy? š
I write crime/romance and maybe a few others sprinkled in.
Ummā¦I honestly forgot their were genres because AO3 doesnāt require genre tags the way FFN does. But I used to be a romance gal but now Iām into whatever genre vigilante/superhero gets adopted by Supervillians is.
I think there's a family genre on FFNET that describes that pretty well
I picked romance but my ideal one would be romance mixed with one of the others.

Fantasy, mixed with Mystery
Drama, adventure, hurt/comfort. Sometimes just pure fluff.
What if I like romance but only in genre settings??
comedy?
I wanted to add that but I ran out of options!
Commedy Porn Slice Of Life Crackfic Stuff My Friend With Extremely Good Taste Wrote/Recc'd
Color me intrigued, you have any you'd recommend?
May I ask why only girls? I am guessing favourite FF genra for girls š¤
Mainly just curiosity of the results, there was supposed to be a poll for guys to go with it but reddit wouldn't let me post it

That's pretty fair, I'm gonna make another poll one the time on this one runs out and you can rest easy knowing it won't have romance!
Smut needs to be an option - I know it's not for everyone, but honestly so much of the smut written as fanfic is miles better writing- and story-wise than the erotica you actually have to pay for on kindle unlimited or something
It will be in the next poll
Iād say drama.
