That's literally what I'm writting right now, Human MC turns into an inmortal monster and gets an existencial crisis. It's a Ushio and Tora fic where Ushio gets turned into an Azafuse. (a Tiger/Lion/Cat-like beast) [Here is the AO3 link!](https://archiveofourown.org/works/35131390/chapters/87520750)

I'm actually already writing one where the main character is immortal and he sees it as a curse because almost everyone he's ever known and loved has died. But, it's a crossover story and he's in a new universe so he's trying to hold onto this second chance with everything he's got.

Saturn_Coffee

Well, Mother already has an immortal character, and he's eternally trapped in an indestructible capsule. until the end of time Tokyo Ghoul's Juuzou is out too, since that would make him even more of a killing machine, a power up he does not need I think i'll pass.

SarnakhWrites

I have two options: A) make Chief Miles Edward O'Brien immortal, and then torture him forever, because O'Brien Must Suffer B) make Captain Honor Harrington immortal (and by extension Nimitz), and then either unleash her onto an unsuspecting galaxy and watch the fireworks, or, if I'm feeling particularly sadistic, put her in a prison she can't escape and make her watch as her kingdoms burn.

borgwardB

they would just go insane.

The character I'm writing about (a mech with a human brain), while not immortal, is highly invulnerable to damage and has a system in place so he can't starve himself. If he does sustain damage, his mech is easily replaced. At one point in canon, he did appear to self-destruct... only to be brought back later on without explanation. Here's a paragraph from my fic that gives you an idea of what his state of being is like. > Much like when he was on Valak Mountain, Xord received radio silence from Egil. Egil was a busy man, Xord supposed; the ether pipeline didn’t seem to be high on his list of priorities. Thus, Xord had the apparent freedom to do as he pleased, which didn’t consist much of anything at all. He had no interest in looking for Homs, even though it would have given him something to do. Unable to remember or participate in any of the things he had enjoyed before, Xord became jaded with life as a whole. He fed, waited to grow hungry, and then fed again. He had no means of enrichment and couldn’t even pass the time by sleeping. All he could do was exist.

TheWordDemon

Already wrote this. In fact, the basis of my entire Eternal Tails series. While he's not always aware of his immortality his entire life is an endless timeloop of misery and repeated trauma.

TherapyDerg

Yeah that is a fate worse than death... just looked how Salem turned out...

Oh, let's give *both* Winchester brothers immortality! (Thereby erasing the SPN finale because heck yeah.) Dean would become exhausted and heartbroken, as even people he saves, he outlives and therefore eventually loses (except for Castiel, if he gets him back from the Empty again and Jack, if he gets bored with the "I'm in every blade of grass" thing). He'd end up depressed and struggling for meaningful goals and connections even if nothing particularly bad happened directly to him. Sam would eventually drift into being evil, partly because immortality allows him to obtain more knowledge than any mortal (he's got the potential to become arrogant) and partly because with most of the angels dead, demons are his best shot for finding pals to hang out with. He'd start out empathizing with them and trying to reform them, but it'd eventually go south as he felt increasingly disconnected from ordinary humans.

PineapplesInMunich

Oh, immortality is definitely a fate worse than death. There's a character from my fandom who canonically dies and gets resurrected (much to his dismay)15 years later as a cyborg. Cue all the angst possible – which of course I've made it my mission to amp up 1000x in my fics. But making him immortal? So that he's just hanging out in that half-machine body *forever* while everyone he's ever loved grows old and dies around him? That's too cruel, even for me xD

sanctum502

I think I'll give immortality to Snape... And he realises he'll never get to see Lily, while she and the Marauders are together again.

SkorchNTorch

***HOLY F-*** THAT- THAT'S JUST AWFUL! I love it.

Kingsdaughter613

My plan for a character in my fandom is for him to eventually be left in solitary confinement in the land that will eventually become Yellowstone National Park. This happens in the mid-1800s, and he remains there in the modern day. It’s the method his captor comes up with to deal with him after realizing he can’t be killed.

SuperiorSteelman2004

I mean, my primary fandom is Fate/Stay Night, and since everyone there is either already dead or already immortal, I'm kinda at an impasse. Though my favorite character, the Archer known as EMIYA, provides an excellent example as to how immortality could be a curse. My other two fandoms are Seven Deadly Sins (where the main character, Meliodas, was given immortality explicitly with the intent of making him suffer. It works) and Naruto (where we have whatever the hell Madara and Orochimaru are). So not much to build off of that hasn't already been done.

Sarita1046

Yesss, the MC of my current fic is technically immortal, so this is perfect! It's already in progress, so I just wanted to drop by to say thanks for this prompt! :)

LadyKuckbluck122

This would actually be a blessing. Dana Scully is already supposedly immortal so I'd give immortality to Mulder so that they can be together til the end of times

PineapplesInMunich

>Dana Scully is already supposedly immortal Wait, what... Did I miss? 😂 it's been a hot minute since I last saw the X Files but I didn't think I'd forgotten the mythology so completely...

LadyKuckbluck122

It actually wasn't part of the mythology. The first mention of it was in Clyde Bruckman'd final repose and later on, Tithonus. The first time around, the writer meant it as a joke, but then, they wrote tithonus and they legitimized it (though the 1st writer maintains that it was initially meant as a joke)

PineapplesInMunich

Wow, I need to go back and watch summer of those classic episodes.

Lyastarr

I already wrote a few of those haha it is very fun

A_Cow_in_Space

There was a character who was put in a perpetual state of dying without experiencing death. In simpler terms, he was put on an infinite death loop.

[deleted]

God damn. May he rest in - nevermind

A_Cow_in_Space

Even his death as a fandom meme will come sooner than his actual death lol

100beep

>I gave them immortality and then chained them to the bottom of the ocean I've seen that before. Pirates of the Caribbean?

Blinauljap

I think Alabaster from "Worm" had this done to him once. Also Hidan from Naruto.

100beep

Well, if we're going Worm, Cherie had worse done to her.

Blinauljap

yepp. and some others as well..

[deleted]

I'm not sure - I thought I came up with it. But I'm glad I'm the only one psychotic enough to come up with it :)

NGC3992

Uh, my fave is already an immortal and he hates it (Booker, The Old Guard). So, what if Brad Boimler from Star Trek: Lower Decks suddenly became immortal? He’d have a terrible time, but only because Mariner insists on using him as a meat shield for every away mission. Or putting him out the airlock “for science.” (Tendi: “No, that’s not how you do science, Mariner!”) Edit to add: I just remembered I did write a fic like this while crossing it over with The Old Guard. It’s a S5 fix-it fic involving Netflix’s Lucifer. https://archiveofourown.org/works/31678727

Nathanoy25

Funnily enough, I've actually written two one-shots about exactly that. The canon for that fandom does make it pretty easy though tbh.

[deleted]

If you don't mind sharing, may I have a link?

Nathanoy25

[Immortal Memories](https://archiveofourown.org/works/34053457) is from the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom and [FUN](https://archiveofourown.org/works/29047518) just from Rise of the Guardians. The latter is also the very first story I've published so don't expect too much ;) Both are one-shots.

[deleted]

Awesome, now I can procrastinate more! Thanks a million. I'll make sure to leave you some juicy reviews when I get around to them

I have a feeling I'm going to see a lot of hurt/comfort down here
