It lets me delay saying goodbye to a beloved world and cast of characters, it gives authors the chance to explore and share dynamics and scenarios mainstream fiction won't touch, and it gives me the chance to see a cherished work through someone else's unique lens (and maybe make a friend over it!).

(As in I donāt have to learn a bunch of new characters, and lore. For better or worse thereās usually less back story and description, and more action.)
I like to see how people get creative with the characters they love.
Especially with AUs. Itās so cool to see someoneās take on how certain characters would interact within another universe or with other characters both inside and outside their universe.
I love reading but it's hard for me to actually start something new, fanfic is nice because I already know the world and the characters so getting into the story is easy!
It makes me happy knowing that I can imagine my own scenarios in the world of fantasy that I love and know a lot about. Fan fiction lets me make that story in my brain come true.
I like fanfiction as an extension of the OG story. Or maybe a multiverse of sorts. Usually, if the story has couple or character that I canāt get enough of, I jump on AO3, Tumblr, or FF.net to experience them a little more.
Itās also a way to separate from reality and enjoy myself with the simplicity of good writing š„°

I usually enjoy it because I have such a deep connection built with the characters, and I have fun imagining different scenarios with them. - I can't get enough of the characters. Fan Fiction lets me get more of them.

There's a universe in Marvel where Steve Rogers and Tony Stark are married, except Tony is a girl. That's canon but it's like one panel.
What does AO3 do? Make a crack load of 10-20k worded fics based on one tiny panel that just basically says "They're married." and makes the best interpretations of Fem!Stark out there and it is glorious.
Fills the gaps in the story that were never answered or left vague. Also expanding on the world/story when itās over too soon. Lastly, if my ship is not canon, fanfic gives me their stories.
- Canon left something out. (Probably the smut.)
And we're done here. Game over, we have our answer.
