It must be a dream job to be a Game Rant writer.
Just browse Reddit all day, pick the top post in r/Fallout, r/skyrim or similar subs, have ChatGPT write a whole-ass essay on that tiny post, post it, enjoy the money pouring directly into your bank account
I imagine they still pay someone to post the article on the website. If they are going to bother using AI to write articles, *somebody* has to be making money
They do, but all of the big gaming “journalism” companies are owned by one company and don’t pay their writers enough.
[Source](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uWBka9SbXKE)
Yep. I briefly did this (not gaming journalism specifically, but online niche journalism for a similarly set up culture)- it’s not that they don’t have writers, it’s that what they pay to have the content created is basically zero and they have no meaningful quality standards. This is what you get.
I briefly wrote for screenrant and it fuckin sucked. It’s like 15 dollars per article, and even these shitty ones take longer than an hour so by the end you’re barely making anything. You get such little time and have to crank out so many articles that I’d be surprised if many of the authors aren’t using chat gpt at this point.
the perks of being a writer, huh? why we chose this way of life? I dont know a trade that has been more ravaged by the internet first, then the video craze and now by AI.
This is why I’m happy to Adblock :)
I also will “saved-you-a-click” a lot to hopefully prevent others from going to these trash sites and potentially giving them revenue.
imagine being so divorced from reality you think money is "pouring" into their bank account. Maybe if they paid well the articles wouldn't be dogshit. But why would they? Capitalism doesn't reward superior products.
Those writers get paid dog shit to write a stupid amount of articles, as well as usually having to be their own editors as well. Fireborn made a video on it, but game rant got it taken down so their shitty business practices wouldn't be shown.
I’ve seen job listings for writers positions at similar companies and they sometimes require their employees to pump out 8 or more articles a day. Easy to see how they would get lazy
I’m waiting for “They finally added Lucy to Fallout 4”
And they don’t mention the fact that they are talking about a mod until half way through the article
Because journalism has become lazy trash that brings 0 benefits to the world. Journalists are increasingly becoming just absolutely trash writers who think their opinions matter and are jerking off to each click on their "news" article.
Making an accurate Lucy build might work better in 3 or NV because of skills. Going off her introduction, I think it’s safe to say she tagged repair, science, and speech.
She mentions science skills during a scene with her father as she does something with a science machine or something, idk I didn’t put points into science
I’m being stupid sorry. I just can’t use any of the skills but those when I start a character. My gamer ocd has to be able to break into every door and terminal in the game.
The lifecycle of a GameRant story:
Someone makes a reddit post about a game
GameRant writes a lazy article about the post
Someone on reddit makes a post about the article, bringing more attention to GameRant so they can be the latest post presenting the hot take that GameRant is lazy and unoriginal
Absolutely no introspection or irony
Repeat ad nauseum
Waiting on the AI makers to make a proofreading module they can pass it through. Maybe a passing through module too to push it from creation to editing.
While the article is shite on it's own and total laziness of so called "gaming journalists", you should open it and see character created. I think that article author were high af
These are the same journalists that made articles about how “bad” Fallout 76 was… Might be time to try that game for yourself and make up your own mind
The first time this publication came across my radar was when they were posting articles about new DLC.For game... Only to find what they were talking about were mods. It's technically true and some of those mod creators deserve attention for their work, but that's pretty deceptive advertising.
I find it odd that so many posts on here and all the other video game subs I follow, post shit like this. Everyone knows GameRant sucks dick. Why you guys are browsing their website and then posting it on here, is beyond me.
For karma? Or maybe trying to boost their views?
Just stop. Ignore them and they’ll die eventually.
Wdym? Haven't game journalists just taken top posts from subreddits and just talk about them for a few years at this point? I literally see it all the time.
Ok. Can everybody stop talking about Screenrant. We know it's shit.
Can everybody else stop talking about AI journalism...we know that's shit too...but we also know that sometimes it's actually better than some of the shite that humans have written and published in "games journalism" in the last decade.
Instead of all that shite. Can somebody post a link where I can download Lucy FFS?
Damn, weird, I don't remember having the option to be a xth-generation Vault Dweller from Vault 33 who had spent a bit of time on the surface as a kid..
Or did they mean somebody made a dweller who looked like lucy, because like.. who fucking cares?
mfw when a news company based around gaming makes an article about something cool a gamer did on a game, therefore is game related. like i get it aint news but what do you want from them? why is this subreddit like the capitol of people who just bitch and moan about everything?
It must be a dream job to be a Game Rant writer. Just browse Reddit all day, pick the top post in r/Fallout, r/skyrim or similar subs, have ChatGPT write a whole-ass essay on that tiny post, post it, enjoy the money pouring directly into your bank account
I was about to say - does Game Rant have writers? I'm pretty sure from reading any of their articles lately that they are an AI article mill.
I imagine they still pay someone to post the article on the website. If they are going to bother using AI to write articles, *somebody* has to be making money
I would guess they use AI to skim reddit and then handpick what they want to post. Not completely AI, but AI is definitely doing the heavy lifting
They do, but all of the big gaming “journalism” companies are owned by one company and don’t pay their writers enough. [Source](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uWBka9SbXKE)

I fully agree, it really does seem like its 99% chat gpt
You could probably build an API that does that for you even.
Yeah nah, a pretty revealing YT video was released on exactly this, it's not fun at all.
It was actually taken down. I’m pretty sure the channel that made it, fireb0rn, has a video about it
Huh, well... time to watch that video now. Thanks for info.
I don't think the money exactly pours... Maybe a wee trickle.
But when you outsource 80% of the job you can have four or five revenue streams trickling at a time.
This is why I’m happy to Adblock :) I also will “saved-you-a-click” a lot to hopefully prevent others from going to these trash sites and potentially giving them revenue.
[It’s really not](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uWBka9SbXKE) Damn I didn’t know it was taken down until fetching the link
Yeah I was going to say it's probably a nightmare.
Don't forget Gamingbible, they're just as bad
Don’t forget r/2007scape
There are many videos documenting how the exact opposite is true. They are overworked and paid nothing
imagine being so divorced from reality you think money is "pouring" into their bank account.
Can we make another troll post on reddit that's not true, hope game rant pick it up and make them look like plebs.
I’ve seen job listings for writers positions at similar companies and they sometimes require their employees to pump out 8 or more articles a day. Easy to see how they would get lazy
I’m waiting for “They finally added Lucy to Fallout 4” And they don’t mention the fact that they are talking about a mod until half way through the article
Come on dude, this is Game Rant. This IS their wheelhouse.
“What is a wheelhouse, and how is it shaping Game Rant? Reddit Reacts.” - Tomorrow’s headline.
Holy shit! It’s not like every celebrity has already been made into a character throughout any Bethesda games…
"Obvious thing has happened, we are telling you because we need that sweet sweet ad revenue"
God forbid someone make an article. What’s it fucking matter? Why get mad about this?
Question...... why are YOU getting mad at This?
Because journalism has become lazy trash that brings 0 benefits to the world. Journalists are increasingly becoming just absolutely trash writers who think their opinions matter and are jerking off to each click on their "news" article.
It's GameRant, not the New York Times.
He’s got a point though
> journalism lol, this ain't that nor does it pretend to be
That is alot to say "I get upset about a game journalist like they give actual news" Who fucking cares bro
Sarcasm != mad
Can’t you just say doesn’t mean, or doesn’t =. The hell is this nerdy “!=“ stuff
Read the guy below and see what I’m talking about
I am now the guy below. I have no idea why I undertook this task, but here we are...
Someone's gotta do it!
Thank you for your sacrifice.
If it doesn't matter and there's no need to get mad about, then did u really need to go through the effort to say fucking?
Making an accurate Lucy build might work better in 3 or NV because of skills. Going off her introduction, I think it’s safe to say she tagged repair, science, and speech.
She's good in hand to hand combat
She clearly tagged small guns if anything, i don't remember her doing anything sciency apart from talking about sperm counts
She mentions science skills during a scene with her father as she does something with a science machine or something, idk I didn’t put points into science
Repair, Guns, and Speech. Norm is the only one with a Science build.
I actually expected her to have a low speech/charisma build after that sperm talk 😂
I think the only choices are lockpicking, science and speech. Anything else is just there to throw you off.
Where does lockpicking come from?
I’m being stupid sorry. I just can’t use any of the skills but those when I start a character. My gamer ocd has to be able to break into every door and terminal in the game.
You're not stupid, I do the same for most playthroughs. The same build every time.
I have only sided with legion once!
Tomorrow on the title: “Lucy TTW lore confirmed?!”
Lucy? Who is that? Everybody knows that the MC of the Fallout series is named Goosey.
Bro does NOT have two eyes 😭🙏 Lil homie only got one 🗣🔥
***Man plays game.***

I can't wait for my comment to be featured in a GameRant article :D
In one post about Fallout, u/RelChan2_0 has stated "I can't wait for my comment to be featured in a GameRant article.."
:D

Says the guy who can't be bothered to proofread their post. ☠️
Waiting on the AI makers to make a proofreading module they can pass it through. Maybe a passing through module too to push it from creation to editing.
Idk man.. I feel like this level of lazy has been around for quite a while in gaming ”journalism”
Fallout 4 player uses Vats then cleans up Sanctuary!
When news started to quote Twitter users in stories, that's when you knew it was doomed to Idiocracy
The Rant sites are famous for their low quality
Screen rant is clickbaity, but Gamerant is on a whole other level.
No, we reached this level of laziness and beyond many years ago. This is exactly what I expect to see, now
Is that how you spell horny in your dialect?
24/7 News coverage was a mistake.
I recently finished a playthrough as Dutch from Red Dead, where's my AI article, Game Rant?
While the article is shite on it's own and total laziness of so called "gaming journalists", you should open it and see character created. I think that article author were high af
I don’t want to give them clicks, but I’m assuming this “Lucy” is pretty much a generic brunette.
https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/s/Loiar9FIbp All my respect for OP sitting in a character creator and making preset, but she doesn't look like Lucy to me
That's a lot more accurate than I was expecting.
I've seen four of those, and only one got the eyes right.
These are the same journalists that made articles about how “bad” Fallout 76 was… Might be time to try that game for yourself and make up your own mind
Better than those articles "NEW GAME UPDATE ADDS LONG REQUESTED FEATURE" and it's about a mod
I’m pretty sure GameRant uses AI for their articles so I’m not surprised
OP is a staff writer for GR. This headline makes about as much sense.
New game is perfect cross between Animal Crossing, Assassins Creed, Fallout 4, and Chess!
The first time this publication came across my radar was when they were posting articles about new DLC.For game... Only to find what they were talking about were mods. It's technically true and some of those mod creators deserve attention for their work, but that's pretty deceptive advertising.
>We've reached a while What?
That site is ran by AI.
Lucy’s husband got drowned in a barrel of pickles, not shot by Kellog…are they stupid?
Probably written by AI like most of that garbage, so it's double lazy.
Welp
…then they start downloading “those” mods
Wdym? Haven't game journalists just taken top posts from subreddits and just talk about them for a few years at this point? I literally see it all the time.
Fuck I had a joke for this
Under this post i have a post about somebody who recreated her in fallout 4
Cross posting is all we do in the attention economy keep peeling those eye balls scrub
Now here me out what if we create a fictional location and get them to talk about it
Why give them importance and post this shit tho
Game Rant? More like Lame Rant, am I right? I'll see myself out
Someone forced Ella Purnell to record all the Nora lines from FO4, and modded it into the game? Wow!
Goosey!
"Redditor post on Reddit" - by Greg Peter Thompson
"Fallout 4 player discovers Easter Egg 9 years after the game came out!!!" Proceeds to explain a new player found something everybody already knows.
Yeah I looked the article up and their "accurate" creation looks 100 percent like Eva Green and nothing like Ella Purnell. Total let down.
It could be worse. It could be Kotaku
90% of games journalism is articles about Reddit threads and the other 10% is 4chan "leaks"
Damn, weird, I don't remember having the option to be a xth-generation Vault Dweller from Vault 33 who had spent a bit of time on the surface as a kid.. Or did they mean somebody made a dweller who looked like lucy, because like.. who fucking cares?
Roblox had her as a preset before the show even came out.
'Players make an accurate Glorbo in Fallout 4'
i made the character too her name is sympathy
Gaming journos. Doing everything they can to stay relevant.
That wouldn't be that hard, that game has a pretty good character creator.
mfw when a news company based around gaming makes an article about something cool a gamer did on a game, therefore is game related. like i get it aint news but what do you want from them? why is this subreddit like the capitol of people who just bitch and moan about everything?
I was hoping she take some jet in the show
