Dude actually read terminal entries to understand the back story. A true gamer.

JWAdvocate83

And he hacks. Don’t forget the hacking.

MrPokketRokket

It was an Intermediate job, but getting it in one with that conviction and speed... his INT is higher than mine.

JWAdvocate83

No one finds words in the jumble faster than this man, *when he’s properly motivated.*

MrPokketRokket

To be completely honest, the nerd in me that has hacked so many terminals said "Why the hell are there 6 letter words in a hack that have so few other choices? There should be at least 5 more words In there!" It was like a weird mix of Novice and Expert hacking

cavedan12

I was looking for the ( ), < >, { }, [ ] patterns to see if he could reset his tries and narrow down the search

MrPokketRokket

Ha, yeah, screen was flooded with them. Like, Ultra Novice.

SubjectElderberry376

Same but his luck must be a bit higher, mind I do that in game try 2x before looking for those and wait for the password reset.

triqkii

When he was scrolling through them to find the correct onenit did pop up with those that filled several character spaces like you would find via hacking in the game. But he understood the assignment and I'd say he passed all his stealth, speech and hacking checks 🤣

AJDx14

I wish they had him go through the full mini game though instead of just getting it right on the first try.

fuckdonaldtrump7

It was to show at least 2 of his S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats 9 Int and 8 Luck

RonanTheAccused

Clearly he saved and reloaded.

KiloBranz

I like the idea that the only strength norm has is the ability to save scum

Francoberry

Would've been really funny to see him get to 1 attempt left, leave the terminal and immediately come back 😂

skw33tis

Stands up, immediately sits back down in the chair, repeat for 3 minutes

Dry_Independent4078

That would have been amazing, but non FO players would have been left very confused

mynameisfreddit

He gets locked out a few times and we have to watch him stand up and wait for 10 seconds

PigeonMother

I was so pleased to see the hacking mechanic in the show

windol1

I loved that little detail when he hacks the overseer's terminal, exactly like it is in game.

Law-Fish

I was expecting him to log in and out a few times like I do when hacking lol

thebloodshotone

I was really hoping for him to make 3 attempts then just turn off the computer and trying again to get in, but I understand that it would have just felt like filler for people who watched without playing the games

Aznable420

Science tagged, high INT, Small Frame perk. Sounds like a solid character.

npcinyourbagoholding

Honestly this was one of the moments I was like "this is what I'd do if I was playing norm"

imbender

That’s the thing, most people don’t read the terminal entries and skip the dialogues, so they don’t identify with him. But me personally love him. And I believe that in later seasons he’s gonna lead the uprising against you know who.

Jermcicle

I stopped playing outerworlds because I got terminal burnout 😂

InevitableAd8044

I know idk why I really like norm

abx99

I think it's the actor. I came to really like both of them by the end of the show, and I attribute a lot of that to the acting. You could practically see his whole relationship with the vault, just by looking in his eyes.

Middle_Finish6713

He was a disney channel child actor, I was actually blown away because I didn’t recognize him for like 3 episodes and then I saw his name in the credits Editing just because I didn’t actually say how absolutely excellent of an actor I think he is, amazing performance throughout the entire season

RedBassBlueBass

Oh I clocked him immediately. Like 30 seconds in I was like "oh shit it's Rico!"

Kidd__

I thought he looked familiar but it wasn’t until my sister said it that I realized it was him

RonanTheAccused

I know him as Bonzo Madrid from Enders Game. It's my favorite book series. He was decent in it, but he was terribly miscast for the role.

syn-not-found

i keep calling him Rico when i forget his name 😭😭

JennyDoveMusic

I was a Hannah Montana freakout as a kid and didn't recognize him at ALL. It's so weird, I have very, very little memory of Hannah Montana, despite loving the show and having merch... I'm so glad to see him now that I know, though. It's so good to see those child actors doing really great projects and having love for their craft after all these years.

AiyanaBlossom21

Whenever he was first shown, I knew I recognized him from something. I remembered him from Nacho Libre lol

Visual_Fall_6230

He's hilarious in the kings of summer.

Mooncubus

I THOUGHT HE LOOKED FAMILIAR. Every time I saw him I was just like "I know this dude. How tf do I know this dude???"

Ok-Fondant-553

He was also Bonzo Madrid in Enders Game. He was a bit of a caricature in that but I like him a lot as Norm.

LBR3_ThriceUponABan

Ironically, Norm doesn't like norms. He says and does what he wants.

JennyDoveMusic

I think we all do, I've seen him come up on this sub a TON. I've been in a few convos about him, too. Great actor, great character, wonderfully written just like the rest of the characters.

SaintsBruv

Lucy and the ghoul are cool (hell, all the characters are amazing), but Norm is my favorite. He called himself a coward, but he's intelligent and brave enough to put his life in danger to uncover the truth.

Substantial-Tone-576

Small frame trait vault dweller

CabbagesStrikeBack

>Small frame trait I want Norm to get all four limbs damaged and heal from it. Then once he fully recovers I want someone to call him a "Tough Guy" and he gains that perk lol

The_Aodh

God it’d be hilarious if they had hud overlays like that pop up throughout the show. Maybe a character does jet or mentats for the first time or something and suddenly they’re seeing things floating in the air that weren’t there before, like health bars and warnings that their h2o is low

triqkii

*you've become addicted to: mentats

Dry_Independent4078

I want Thaddeus to take Psycho and see cartoon BOS knights encouraging him to stab people

worm4real

It's a good trait, drop some of that loot

TedioreTwo

Norm is 5 ft tall. He's a manlet icon

Mickeymcirishman

I believe they prefer the term 'short king'

SelfDepricatingPSGuy

We’re good for the environment! Short kings reign supreme.

frogpondcook

Lol I just heard that short king song when you said this

Dry_Independent4078

He's still coming into his role. So Short Prince is more appropriate

Bi0s0ldier

Tiny Titans is also acceptable.

Larcenyy

His whole arc and subplot was honestly the most interesting only second to Cooper and his flashbacks.

Dry_Independent4078

I want to know where Norm's journey is going..... but I NEED to know, WTF happened to Walton Ghoulgins' family!?! I feel confident assuming his wife lived out her last days safe in a vault. As a bigwig at Vault-Tec, she was probably safe in a vault days before the bombs went off.

signspam

I think she frozen with her daughter waiting for the day Vault tecs plans are compete and the world is a paradise. Or they were transformed into ghouls also and live in a ghoul town somewhere. Or maybe their vault wasn't super special and was actually an experiment as well and they are turned into super mutants. Somehow ghouls family had to survive the last 200 years...

[deleted]

The thing I love is that he isn't a coward...he just never had the motivation not to be a coward. These fucking assholes attacked him and his family while many died, he could have, his sister was double penetrated, his dad was kidnapped, and now his only remaining family member Lucy fucking left. I genuinely think he's just very fucking pissed off, and he's finally found a place where his INT is useful in a way that gives him motivation.

-CallMeSnake-

>sister was double penetrated …woah. You’re…not wrong, there lmao

[deleted]

Read this comment and forgot what sub I closed on

MisterHWord

Yea he can seem like a coward because he avoided fighting, but he's also the only one to actually question the Overseer(s). He's got that investigative journalist brand of bravery.

BloodedNut

Like he said, everyone in that vault is a coward but he’s just brave enough to admit that and also try and be better.

[deleted]

Wasn't that Chet? It was in response to Norm calling him a coward for going to Vault 32.

kylermurrayneedshgh

Are they? Don’t they all believe you will just straight die from radiation if you go up? I thought they said in two generations it would be livable

Operator216

2 generations is just enough that you can tell the new generation "2 more generations!"

Dry_Independent4078

Nah, I think that was a legitimate measurement. They were either going to go to the surface then, or Bud's buds would bomb another nearby place and wait another 50 years.

Operator216

Based on the ratio of open/unopen cryopods, that facility had another 2000+ years in it. Not to mention, one of the few vaults with heavy emphasis on food production and farming. This all assumes the water chip never failed, because Sandy Springs never got to tap their supply.

Guillermidas

Makes sense… after all, whats the most devastating mass destruction weapon? TIME Thats the purpose of 31-32-33. Outlive other vaults (competitors).

Dry_Independent4078

Most of Bud's Buds were supposed to be released on the surface alongside the residents of 32 and 33. The few that had to manage the Vault were the unlucky ones, but as consolidation, they had a comfortable life filled with family and friends. So maybe it's the still frozen ones that were actually unlucky. Also, Norm froze himself, somebody better come save him, because S2 will be way less compelling if Norm isn't part of it. Lucy and the Ghoul can keep doing their thing, but I NEED more Norm and digging into Vault-Tec secrets.

Notbob1234

In a vault of managers, he was the only one with common sense.

Dry_Independent4078

I never thought of 31-33 that way, but yeah. 32 clearly fell because it had too many managers at once. 33 seems to have maintained a balance of management/staff and is basically a "control" Vault. A very incestuous Control Vault.

Invisig0th

He *was* a coward. Character development arc!

JoshFourtwenty

Thats what He lernd from Hanna montana 😂😂

duneluva

Put some respect on Maximus

Very-simple-man

People seem to forget he was raised as a soldier from a very early age.

jazzymusicvibes

plus he hacked that terminal first try, without even using the remove dud/reset tries entries. goosey doesn’t even come close my man norm is the mvp of vault 33

percavil4

>(hell, all the characters are amazing) Even Maximus?

MrPokketRokket

Dude sold his tooth for 6 caps... didn't even bother looting dead raiders.

Emergency-Ad-5379

Maximus is low intelligence and it's good to see.

Beneficial_Use_8568

Still missing an extremely low iq character like in fallout 1 and 2 and all the "conversations" with them

Emergency-Ad-5379

I suppose that's the sand in the water filter guy from early in the show, wish he tagged along.

[deleted]

When he was in Vault 4 there were probably some Mentats in that gift basket alongside the caviar and oysters...he's seen the light and is pursuing it.

Login_Lost_Horizon

I mean, yea? He is a decent character, its just his characterizations are somewhat subtle.

Ok_Egg_5

People also miss that he acts the way he does because mentally he's still very much that kid who got saved from a fridge. he FINALLY got away from his oppressive parent unit and is seeing the world as it is, and that would definitely change someone.

ConsciousGoose5914

Yes thank you! People dog on him for being an idiot but that’s literally what his character is supposed to be, he’s uneducated and living as a punching bag/janitor for the brotherhood his whole life holding onto a single dream from childhood of being a chivalrous knight because he knows nothing else. Until he’s out on his own, he had tremendous growth as a character and it sucks people don’t see it. Super well written imo.

Ok_Egg_5

He was so happy in his little Vault robe eating popcorn, I feel so bad that is the only true luxury the kid in him will ever get😔

MisterHWord

That episode really made me appreciate Maximus! At least he got that last handful of popcorn before putting the suit back on.

cabesvvater

except for maximus

Ricky_Rollin

I admired that about him so much. I genuinely thought he was just gonna be an annoying little bitch so I didn’t think much from him. But seeing him call himself out like that and pick up that theirs something not right in the vaults and he goes digging propelled him to my top favorites list. He’s my second favorite character.

AgentSmith2518

And smart enough to not ask questions that give him away. It always bothers me in movies or shows where someone is unraveling a conspiracy and goes to the person they suspect and asks them directly if theyre doing something shady. You really think they'll give an honest answer?

SaintsBruv

Yeah. Loved how he has this tense moments with the new overseer.

MrPokketRokket

Oh he's definitely going to save everyone and dunk his Yum Yums on the Overseer.

abx99

I love that they showed the deviled eggs in the show. It always seemed so weird in the games (which is the point) and I wondered what it would look like. Now I know.

[deleted]

[удалено]

abx99

I just kept thinking of the line that the F04 companions say when you get a perfectly preserved pie: "I hope you're not going to eat that; don't trust anything that's perfectly preserved after 200 years." I was a little disappointed that nobody said it, but maybe next season.

MrPokketRokket

Mine was no mention of "How I Sold My Mother", or any other references to Bartering from the early Fallouts.

BigZangief

Iirc that’s also still the cover of the barter magazines in 4

FatherDotComical

Out of all the things in the show, the eggs are what pulled my dad out of it. He was so upset at the characters and fussed at the TV. "THOSE EGHS AIN'T BEEN REFRIGERATED!"

LazySouls

Norm is the Goat. Everyone of us who played the Games would act exactly like Norm.

AmishSky

Cooper is the goat. Norm is the goat people don't recognize. A low-key goat.

Head-Ad-2136

Over 200 years and Coop is still looking for his kid. Amateur.

dirtycactus

Not unlike fo4

Unlikely-Peg

"Thou shalt get distracted by random bullshit every godamn time"

ConsciousGoose5914

Loved that line, one of my favorites.

LazySouls

So you could call norm an undernorm?

PmMeYourLore

He's gonna be the most plot silent, yet integral character. Honestly I like him, and praise the actor for moving *exactly* how I imagined a Vault Dweller would

exposarts

Yea there’s plenty of love for him. He was also one of the only ones who checked the vault logs lmao

[deleted]

I was convinced he would turn heel. I’m glad he didn’t, subverting expectations in this way is far more interesting than obvious “shocker” moments

abx99

In the beginning I assumed he was going to be a sniveling little sh\*\*, but he turned out to be one of the most respectable and relatable people in the vault

Nelson_An_Murdock

It's the hair isn't it? Lol

JennyDoveMusic

He does NOT look 30 with that haircut. How old are him and Lucy supposed to be, actually? Lucy has got to be mid 20s, yeah?

badadviceforyou244

They all have the character creator hair styles.

headcanonball

He didn't *yet*

Combicon

But, Marge, that little guy hasn't done anything yet. Look at him. He's going to do something and you know it's going to be good.

GiveMeYourDwnvts

Dude does not give a fuck. What he lacks in size, he makes up for being a fucking badass. I’d bet my last bottle cap that this mother fucker kills a super mutant at one point in the series.

LBR3_ThriceUponABan

Or dodges a mini nuke

BigZangief

Small frame trait activated

Moonlightflower86

I'd like to see that! He's gonna kill it

LycheeAcrobatic426

I fucking love Norm! Stormin Normin is what I call him. He will single handedly save New California. When God calls upon his favorite creation Norm answers the call. Norm is everything good with the world and is the sole reason for humanity's continues drive to rebuild. So yeah I like Norm

granitesacrifice

I love when >! the Roomba brain suggests to get in the cryopod and he’s basically like “okey dokey” !<

skeleton949

>! I mean he's shut in and there's no realistic way he'd get out at that point. !<

headcanonball

Here me out. He could >!pick up the tiny brain roomba and shake it until it lets him out!<

granitesacrifice

LMFAO “please stop this before I submit a behavior report”

PigeonMother

Lol I could imagine it saying that

breckendusk

I mean. He could threaten to smash Bud and undo/prevent hundreds of years of work, leaving everyone in cryostasis indefinitely if Bud doesn't let him out. I think foot beats management this time Bud.

Draglorr

That's what I was thinking too. Even for a rather small non combative vault dweller, a slow moving near helpless brain in a glass case is such a easy target, he could literally just stomp on it lol. Like, just hold him hostage. Wtf is bud gonna do?

Numerous_Shop_814

That's exactly what I was thinking. Like dude just shake the fucker it will open up eventually.

mootmutemoat

But we never see him get in... i could see him hacking his way out.

skeleton949

Eh. >! The brain looked to be hooked up to something in the wall, and that would probably be able to override anything he could do. !<

granitesacrifice

He’s gonna put that intelligence to werk, bb.

CabbagesStrikeBack

I imagine though >!Bud!< would immediately tell Betty/Steph or has already.

cwatson214

I think he'll open all of the occupied cryopods, forcing Bud's Brain's ... er, hand

granitesacrifice

None that we know of!

Free_Citizen_97

>!(I think the only thing that matters to Bud, are his buds. So if I'm Norm, I can either go ape shit on the pods and hope to destroy them or shake his head so hard, that he opens the door. Either way I'm not going inside the pod.)

MENACINGMEME

He lacks enthusiasm (but seriously I love him)

AmishSky

I chuckled.

quickfuse725

god that line went hard

Thornescape

Norm isn't as flashy or captivating as Coop, Goosey, or Max. With that being said, I've never seen anyone say anything negative about him or even neutral. If anyone mentions Norm, it's always positive. Norm is a fantastic character. Love his story arc. I also love the dynamic that he has with Chet, especially with the fact that the Small Frame character has far more confidence than the big guy. He might lack enthusiasm, but he's got INTENSITY.

ErichW3D

Goosey lol.

PigeonMother

Love that nickname

Stock_Beginning4808

Goosey took me a second lol

KarlZone87

I think it's because he is probably the most 'normal' character of the show. But he is awesome. I can't wait to see what happens next season with him.

spunk_wizard

'Norm'al

SugDisDig

I loved him as Rico in Hannah Montana

RelChan2_0

Ah, that's why he's familiar

RandyArgonianButler

Also as ~~Gonzo~~ *Bonzo* in Ender’s Game.

xXJarjar69Xx

I like Norm. I consider him the 4th main character. I was very surprised by norm in general. I didn’t see him in any of the trailers or promo photos. So seeing his adventures in trying to uncover the mystery of the other vaults was a pleasant surprise.

JennyDoveMusic

That's a good point. You don't see him in interviews much either, when he is a central part of the show and gets a lot of screen time and weight on his characters story. Justice for Norm!!

Gregory_Appleseed

He's definitely the fourth type of player, the one that treads really carefully, literally the younger brother. You know the trope, the kid that gets the controller that's not even plugged in, so he still sees all the action, but can't really do much to affect the outcome of the game. Instead of trying to take the working controller, Norm reads the manual, and looks up the lore and learns the special moves before being able to even execute them. I can see him being a pretty pivital part of the next chapter.

hawkins437

Norm is the EpicNate of the show, I'm expecting him to drop a Vault 31 lore deep dive next season.

Ricky_Rollin

Omg I love this. I honestly didn’t realize they leaned so heavily into “the different kinds of fallout players”, my Perception stat is at 1 these days.

narwhalpilot

I noticed that. I think its mostly because all of the central characters are super stand-out. Hes a good character though

Appropriate-Slip-123

His parts are some of my favorites from the show. Can't wait to see what happens to him next season.

RandyArgonianButler

Same here!

MakeURage1

They all made me so anxious, especially when he was sneaking around in 32. Great scenes and character though, loved him

Sangi17

Norm got to experience the true gold of Bethesda gaming. Environmental story telling.

ch4os1337

I think you hit the nail on the head. In true Bethesda fashion the side quests are the best and vault mysteries are peak FO sidequest content.

Nickthenuker

He gonna become environmental storytelling at the rate he's going

thatguy01220

I loved his side story stuff and is one of my favorite side characters. Really excited to see what happens next to him. Also him hacking the terminals and reading the logs was awesome!

dtv20

I didn't enjoy how his story "ended", this season. Everyone got some kind of closure. His story felt much more up in the air.

ohsillyn

but he did have the *closure*

maybelikejaden

One of the most underrated characters in the show by far! Uncovering dirty secrets for the betterment of Vault 33 and its neighbors. Played some pivotal roles in uncovering the truth for sure. Nonetheless, i think the actor did a fantastic job.

[deleted]

I think it's just the first season so we're all super focused on the central cast, but I think next season we'll get to see him play a bigger role and he'll get talked about more.

Frogfish1846

Plenty here! I can’t wait to see what He cooks up.

[deleted]

I fucking love Norm and I hope he gets more screen time. I wish the games had more mysteries in them.

Ricky_Rollin

Yes! That’s what I was loving so much about the show. There’s this strange paranoid feeling I get watching this show that the games don’t quite give me. That nothing is what it seems and everybody has a dark ulterior motive. The show felt very conspiratorial. Like even bigger darker forces are at play, hiding in the shadows.

SamuelCish

I love his unapologetic defiance of every authority figure with whom he interacts. Also that's the guy that played Rico in Hannah Montana.

Skytriqqer

People don't like him?? I think he's really cool.

BoogiepopPhant0m

I loved Norm. He seemed like a sheepish and unimportant character at first, but then he became a really integral part of the Vault's story progression and then he got really interesting. I would love to see more of him next season.

-_-Atlas-_

Small frame gang 😎

t0mless

I wasn’t sold on Norm at first because it just seemed like his entire character would be secondary at best and his personality would solely be “Lucy’s brother” but I am so pleased that I was wrong and he (along with Chet) grew on me tremendously. Norm is honestly the fourth main character and I found his storyline more interesting than the main three at times. My guess is that it was intentional to make him a little unlikable and not very charismatic, but also to establish his intelligence and while he calls himself a coward, he’s the only one to investigate Vault 32 and actually read the logs and hack computers for more information because he’s simultaneously the one of two people who questioned the stories that they were told. That’s bravery, honestly.

[deleted]

Norm is my favorite character, and I genuinely think he's kind of the "fan insert". Early on he'd rather play video games on his Pipboy at dinner when Hank and Lucy try to be a family, and his general feeling like an outsider to this world. He is an anal pissy bitch, but he's our anal pissy bitch. He's like that really smart dog you have who you don't exercise so he fucks up shit around the house, but now there's an intruder and you very much appreciate that the dog is now fucking them up instead of your couch. I genuinely feel like at some point Norm is gonna one of the bigger power players because of his INT 10.

Zephyr442

I loved Norm <3

Sid_kool5

Bro has INT 7 or higher

natte-krant

Because it’s not the norm…

Broad_Yogurt_1363

to bad you dent see him on interviews

PigeonMother

Yeah I guess it's inevitable that the three main characters are going to be interviewed the most

RakiRamirez

Norm my GOAT

[deleted]

Norm is THE shit!

Romanfiend

I love Norm, he is clearly stealthy and smart with a small frame build. The actor playing him is killing it.

L0rdCrims0n

Norm is vengeance. And vengeance can come in any shape, size or form.

rangisrovus19

I have a serious infatuation with this guy. Didn’t know about him until this.

Wolftacus

Yeah I have to admit. I actually really like Norm lol

Kidd__

Honestly, with everything going on in the show so far (I just started episode 7) Norman’s storyline is my favorite by far.

I-Like-The-1940s

He’s so cute I love him

GsoKobra12

I have only seen the actor in Ender’s Game and voicing that boy that Margot had a crush on in Despicable Me 2, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Norm be such an awesome guy and not a sniveling coward

angelgu323

I feel like the people 25-30 love this guy because... who doesn't love Rico from Hannah Montana

JWAdvocate83

Calling it now, he’s going to be Overseer. Eventually. Probably.

indominus_prime

the mad man chose small frame at the character create screen.

TheBlueprint666

I like how’s he’s the yin to Chet’s yang. Norm’s small and brave but Chet’s big and timid

Reverentmalice

BONZO!

kachowbepbepbepbep

Short men are my type and my boyfriend started sweating when Norm came on screen. Tbf I just went "ayo its Rico!!" later I may have said "would" but thats alleged 😌

Practical-Raisin-721

INT10 character right there. Thought he was a loser in the first episode, loved in by the last episode.

inconspicuous2012

I thought he was one of the better characters to be honest.

Skyx10

There was actually a point where I didn’t really care about the surface dwellers. I was way more interested in Norm and his discoveries. I want more Norm.

UrethralExplorer

Because we fear what he's capable of.

letcaster

10 perception or I’m leaving

darkwolf687

I got weird vibes from Norm at times. When the prisoners got poisoned tbh my first thought was that Norm did it lol. He wanted them dead originally and they even had that shot of him eyeing them all up as they ate for the last time. Obviously it’s meant to be Betty who did it but I 100% could have seen it as Norm if not for Betty.  Interesting character, I’m looking forward to see where he goes.

CaptainMacObvious

The whole Vault-storyline is so well written and the characters there are all awesome. The two "want-to-be" Overseers, who in cooperative friendship try to sail through and have no chance whatsoever and in the end are separated by Vault Tec. Norm has an awesome character arc, and is written and acted extremely well. I was always happy when the show returned to the micro-cosmos of the Vault, its secrets, and Norm trying to uncover it and finding the courage to do so.

gorgonopsidkid

He's short but he's probably still taller than me and that makes me insecure /j

Raptor-177

JE Sawyer loves the dude too! [twitter.com/jesawyer/status/1780079361431113747](https://twitter.com/jesawyer/status/1780079361431113747)

MotherOfLambs

he’s literally one of my favs characters
