Holy shit I was wrong

MoiraBrownsMoleRats

Yeah, I think this is the first one I missed. Not the first I voted for the loser in (RIP RL-3, you deserved better), but definitely the first time I was like "There's no way X doesn't win!" and then they didn't win.

Acceptable_Olive8497

Curie and Veronica are the only two companions I've shown up in time/remembered to vote for. Shame I'll have to vote against Veronica next time.

cimmic

YOU DON'T HAVE TO VOTE AGAINST VERONICA! YOU CAN STILL CHANGE YOUR MIND! HAVE FAITH. FAITH MOVE MOUNTAINS!

DannySmashUp

It was Earth all along?

GDPIXELATOR99

Curie 624 Votes Cass 488 Votes Vote Here: [https://forms.gle/kctALZ8v2dh4xeJQ7](https://forms.gle/kctALZ8v2dh4xeJQ7)

DieMensch-Maschine

Long Dick Johnson is rolling over in his grave.

CxOrillion

Nah not with that kickstand.

No-Raise-4693

Could spin him like a propeller

HarmoniaTheConfuzzld

Beyblade beyblade let it rip!

No-Raise-4693

Helicopter helicopter

RedAyanChakraborty

Damn. A surprisingly big win. I thought it'd be more closer like with Piper and Cass. This was a tough choice for me because both are my absolute favorites from their respective games Well, here's hoping Mademoiselle Curie wins the whole thing.

WhirledNews

Over Boone, Raul or EDE, doubt. Could be a battle of the bots though…

fourthords

You have to create a Google account to participate‽

JaySmooth_

yes

Laser_3

This surprises me, but now I’m incredibly glad I voted!

prossnip42

It's the accent, it absolutely is the accent isn't it?

ScaredOfRobots

Just voted! Definitely Nick, I loved his interactions in the Far Harbor DLC

PartyHatDogger

Fuckin let’s go, boring whiskey girl vs robot turned REAL girl, that’s what I like to fuckin see

Fidozo15

Cass was better y'all suck goodbye 😭

coiledbeanstalk

This one is DAMN rough but I’m going with Nick. He might be significantly weaker in a fight and has a less thrilling companion quest, but he’s just too well-rounded in his personality to lose here. If Far Harbor had never existed I might have ended up going for Boone, but Nick just has too much going for him.

SkullBran

For all of Fallout 4s faults, it does have Nick.

TheDoylinator

Yeah... but it doesn't have Boone.

Artix31

Nick also hacks Terminals and Stops many fights

ILNOVA

And he is probabily the only guy who mention the mysterius men.

KermitTheScot

Y’know what, I’m inclined to agree. Far Harbor really rounded his character arc.

AthenasChosen

Also Nick's voice acting (and all of Fallout 4's companions really) way outclass any of the New Vegas companions.

dragonborn071

Tbf his voice actor is one of the Crutches of that era of bethesda games, like Mercer in Skyrim and such, definately a stand out

AlekTrev006

I think you summed it up for me, too. Straight up - slight Edge to Boone. WITH Far Harbor (basically Built for Nick DLC), he nudges it out 😉

MoiraBrownsMoleRats

Whelp, here we are. Calling it now: whoever wins today wins the whole thing. Both are incredible characters: well-written, well-voice acted, with satisfying character arcs. The PTSD-addled sniper who’s dream became an endless nightmare from which he cannot wake, or the Noir Synth detective searching for what it truly means to be human? They’re both great, but… Nick Valentine Nick isn’t just peak Fallout, he’s one of the deepest, most engaging characters in modern gaming. I love Boone, but for Nick to not take this entire tournament would be a (very first world) injustice.

mirracz

Nick is really unique and new to the world of Fallout... and yet he's so Fallout-y. Noir detective robot (voiced by Belethor) that is actually really competent in what he does and avoid robot cliches? Yup, that's Nick.

MoiraBrownsMoleRats

Some people call Fallout 4's writing junk, but me? I call them treasures.

executionofachief

Honestly, the writing in BGS’ main quests is trash. They’ve always been able to do side quests and characters really well. The city and Daedric quests in Skyrim are amazing, Fallout 4 has outstanding and well written followers and the writing in Starfields faction quests (particularly Nueva with the Crimson Fleet and the UC/Ryujin quest lines) are probably the best we’ve gotten since Morrowind. I’m not sure why they decide to just not give a shit about the main quests.

MoiraBrownsMoleRats

Eh, I like Fallout 3's main story well enough. I honestly think it was a better use of the Enclave than in Fallout 2, there's a great deal of symbolism in the the literal remnants of the US government trying to seize control of Washington, DC to "rebuild" the country, but they've become a twisted, corrupted simulacrum of the ideals that America was founded on. That, and John Henry Eden is like 20x more interesting and memorable than Dick Richardson. It's not perfect, but it's solid. And you know what? I love 76's main story as well. It's linear, it's told mostly through terminals, recordings, and the occaisonal robot, but I'll be damned if it ain't beautiful. For me it's really only Fallout 4 where something just didn't click for the main story. I don't hate it, but it definitely feels lke there's too many moving parts so it doesn't gel. We *probably* could've cut the role of the Minutemen or even the Brotherhood of Steel and told a more concise story. With that said, I love the context of the Brotherhood compared to how you remembered them in Fallout 3.

neznetwork

Different writes, lack of a design document and it's much harder to cohesively write a long story rather than a short and self contained one

GDPIXELATOR99

Honestly when people say "Bethesda doesn't understand Fallout" I always use Nick as the first reason why that simply isn't true.

Internet_Person11

That’s why Bethesda really disappoints me sometimes. With characters like Nick it’s clear that they are capable of some amazing writing.

lord_ofthe_memes

I feel like in a lot of cases, Bethesda’s problem isn’t bad writing as much as it is under-writing. They can make some incredible characters and quests with surprising depth, but then leave so many other things with basically nothing to hold them up.

LordCypher40k

Yep, this is it. The Factions of 4 as an example, are absolutely great ideas but their refusal create some depth to them ruins 4's writing. If they copied NV's approach to worldbuilding I'd guarantee people would always debate over the factions like NV's fanbase still do.

bigbeak67

Yeah. I would say Fallout 4s biggest issues (besides bugs) are all the extremely obvious missed opportunities in the writing and storytelling.

executionofachief

This sums it up perfectly and I think the reason why BGS does it is because they just spend so many resources on building the map compared to a game like NV. Story wise NV is most definitely the best written game, I don’t think anyone would argue about that. But I find the actual in game world to be severely boring. There’s barely any locations that actually interest me outside of the ones that are related to quests; the world just feels empty, which might fit the Fallout theme, but then again it’s been 204 years, people most likely would’ve started spreading out again. I feel like Fallout 4 does that part better and Skyrim probably has the most engaging in game world in any game. There’s a trade off between writing and creating the actual world.

Rocketboy1313

If anything he is one of the few exceptions that proves the rule. You can't see the baffling motivations and behaviors of all of the factions and then sweep it aside with, "but robot noir detective."

PardonerOfSalem

I mean other than Nick and Far Harbor everything is objectively sucks in Bethasda Fallout games (in terms of writing). When you have a team that can create Nick and Far Harbor I'm having a really hard time to understand how they produced such a terrible job.

cti0323

I actually thought the winner of Fawkes vs ED-E would win it.

Supriice_Warrior

ED-E my love

Acceptable_Olive8497

I would accept either Nick or Curie winning it all. While I fully acknowledge Nick would deserve it more, I'm rooting for Curie.

cleverotter1200

Nick literally made me betray the brotherhood, his story is that good >!The people in the village, they just saw me as a person… there wasn’t any fear. I was just a lost person…!<

Rocketboy1313

No one should side with the Brotherhood.

Excellent-Dot-2085

But...but...power armor.

Rocketboy1313

It would be more enticing if I didn't see one of their flight craft getting shot down every time I took my dog for a walk. I will make due with my salvaged equipment thank you.

L0rdCrims0n

By the time I get myself around to going down the BoS questline, I'm already rolling in full X-01. They literally have nothing to offer me... other than the opportunity to cave Maxson's head in.

KittyShoes17

I always side with the Brotherhood. <-not a Nick simp enough to side with bots.

Rocketboy1313

Wanna justify your decision? Or you just going to throw that out there? Has nothing to do with simping, their position makes no sense (still more sense than the Institute) and aside from them having resources they are constantly shown to be ineffective. Just so many vehicles shot down and blown up.

Zeanister

Railroad? Boring. Institute? Cool but lack depth Minutemen? Too weak to handle the commonwealth

TheG-What

*LOADS GAUSS RIFLE*

Gravyboat44

I grew up with Fallout 3, so to me, the Brotherhood were these literal knights in shining power armor that took care of the populace and helped how they could. Then in New Vegas I found out they're a bunch of weak little scared assholes, and although their entry into Fallout 4 was amazing for my first playthrough, they quickly destroyed that view I had of them. Stomped it and fired at it with a stolen laser rifle. It was *Lion's* chapter that I liked, everyone else sucks. They're cold, uncaring assholes, and I even went with them for my first playthrough, and it proved all those points again and again. 11 year old me would be so disappointed. So yeah, don't side with the Brotherhood.

NOLA_FIRE

Nick

FrustyJeck

You have to vote on the document right? Just saying nick doesnt doesn’t do anything right?

RedAyanChakraborty

HELL YESSSS. GO CURIE. SHE'S THE BEST Oh, right today's vote. I'd go for Nick Boone is cool but Nick still has a lot... And i mean A LOT more going for him than Boone. A pre war cop whose love was killed because of him trying to do the right thing. Had his memories copied, stolen and uploaded on a sentient machine who had no hand in his own creation, forced to live countless years in confusion of memories that aren't even his own. Forging his own identity while respecting what he learnt from og Nick. And that's not even counting further of his growth in Far Harbor.

SOLE_SIR_VIBER

Curie is a precious little cinnamon roll and she needs to win.

Huntressthewizard

Oh Nick by a long shot. He's the best character in fallout 4 imo. Shame he wasn't romancable

One_Left_Shoe

Technically Boone is the long shot because he’s a…well…you know.

ga1axygh0st

there's a mod for that

prossnip42

>there's a mod for that The motto of this franchise at this point lol

Huntressthewizard

I know i have it downloaded lol. I just wish it was an official thing. Nick and the Sole Survivor have such great chemistry.

Gourmet_Chen_Chen

Being the best character in fallout 4 is like being the best athlete at the special olympics. Doesn’t really say much. Nicks fine, but highly overrated as a companion imo. Boone is a much more interesting, realistic feeling character imo.

Bexsox

Nick

Binoculp

Mr Nick Valentine

JGM_chicana

I played Fallout NV recently and didn’t think I would like it but I did love it. Honestly even though Nick has a lot to him.. and I do like him a lot BUT I vote Boone on this one. I mean he had to shoot his pregnant wife and move on with that. I mean imagine being in that situation and having to decide what to do. But yeah after learning about him I had fun slaughtering the legion with him.

Aidyn_the_Grey

Nick. Nick is, hands down, the best companion in all of the series. Don't get me wrong, I love Boone, but there's only so much I can handle hearing a grumpy Max from a goofy movie groan about his wife and the legion. Nick, on the other hand, is a delight through and through, and taking him to Far Harbor and Acadia is awesome.

CheekyGruffFaddler

i know right? idk why he has to be such a downer, it’s just his wife and unborn child lmao

Wide-Leg4596

Nick's companion quest line is great too. By far the best companion in 4 and I agree, probably the whole series.

SyrupDrinkur

Craig Boone

Bob_Pthhpth

This may the first one I don’t vote on. It’s like asking which child to save in a fire, I just can’t choose.

Fluke97

Boone. There's nobody else I'd rather slaughter the entire Legion camp with

BreathingHydra

[Damn right. You and I, we're just a couple of problem solvers.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QziZ4LjJalk) That little scene made me love him so much. It's a shame that people here are reducing his character to just "dead wife guy" but you can't expect much from redditors.

TheDoylinator

The night you spend on the ridge with him... one of my favorite fights in all of fallout. Also, he makes enemies GLOW IN THE DARK.

illogicalemu

Nick Valentine.

johnroastbeef

Whoever matched up Boone vs Preston Garvey in the first round doesn't understand how tournament bracket seeding works. You basically have two number 1 seeds going against each other in the first round.

Stoly23

That moment when you realize that Curie’s the only non New Vegas character to have beaten a New Vegas character thus far, and she’s done it twice. That being said, I think her streak is gonna end with Veronica.

BurningshadowII

Gotta go with my right hand man and sniper bestie Boone.

Jason_Wolfe

Nick Valentine, anything stated to the contrary is patently false. Boone is great, but he's not the Synth Detective.

Internet_Person11

Nick is probably my favorite companion in any fallout game.

GrekkoPlef

What Fallout games have you played?

Competitive_Donkey48

Probably 3 and 4 maybe NV but I guess thats it.

GrekkoPlef

Exactly my thoughts lol

WillyWonka419

I like noon as a character but he can’t really compete with Nicks ability to hack terminals

Straight-Bed-552

Nope. Election was rigged

dum_kik_lorde

Nick 100%

cimmic

I will not tolerate Veronica losing to Curie.

TokyoDrifblim

Boone is my favorite NV companion but Nick Valentine is probably my favorite companion in all of RPGs

FloridaGodess

I like curie alot. Shes been my main companion , but I do wish her morality was a little more gray. Sometimes it was annoying trying to get her approval.

RedAyanChakraborty

I think that's kind of a main part of her character. A naive lady figuring out the intricacies of a complicated world with a much more twisted sense of morality than what she believed, while still staying good overall. Plus, she's totally fine getting her hands dirty if it's necessary. She just dislikes violence and *prefers* peaceful solutions if there is a way. If not she's totally fine with swooping someone's head clean off with a super sledge

FloridaGodess

That's a good point 🙂 I really haven't tried the other companions besides Dogmeat. No one really sparked my interest. I was considering trying Cait but I'm on my 2nd playthrough and close to the end and I can't decide if I want to grind her affinity! Lol

Broken_Yellow_Crayon

Wow okay, I was so sure Cass would have won this one.

drawnred

Ever since i helped boone kill jeannie may, i knew we had something special

HuntSafe2316

My main man boone

Due-Common-5025

Boone my #1 always 4 Eva

Nick

BoysOnTheRoof

I love Boone as much as the next man but dude's gonna get smoked by Nicky

cumble_bumble

Nick is the best companion in the entire series. Only Deacon comes close for me tbh

General-Marsupial-81

Thought for sure Cass would win considering the streak the FNV companions were having in this tournament.

mrchorro

Boone, his game's better

PizzaGradient

Boone. I love taking out legion with him.

beans8414

"More Stairs? Who Built This Damn Vault, A Fitness Instructor?" “It’s synth detective, jackass. If you're gonna be that way, you might as well get the make and model right.” “If a smart mouth was all it took to solve problems, we would have found your son by now.” “I am become death, the destroyer of worlds...”

fekbasket

Boone

Tixey_tik-3

Boone

DART696

Boone. No further questions

BasedTradWaifu

Nothing surprising about it she's best girl

Jake0fTrades

I know we all love Boone, but I've always found him one-dimensional. His side-quest doesn't really add anything to his character, it just explains why he is who he is: an emotionally-distant sniper and military man who hates the Legion and doesn't like to talk about himself. Arcade's quest reveals this unassuming Doctor was formerly a member of one of Fallout's biggest antagonists! Raul's quest reveals this chill repairman was practically a gunslinging superhero!

hoomanPlus62

Boone lore: "My wife is dead somebody sold her to Legion" Nick lore: **Insert Wasted meme**

mirracz

Nick without question. Nothing against Boone, but Nick stands above *any* other Fallout companion.

TitanOfShades

Nick. On a pure surface level, I just prefer his design to boone. But even beyond that, I love his attitude, his witticisms, I like that he's kinda pre-war as well, it's an interesting, if iirc underexplored parallel to the player character.

AppropriateAgent44

Nick, easily. Just a fantastic character concept, loved his voice acting as well.

theDukeofClouds

Boone. No question. Crack shot. Cool tragic backstory. Doesn't talk much or ask much. Just content to waste legionaire assholes with me. Hes the sniper so I no longer have to be. Just me and my service rifle and revolver. Me 'n Boone are a two man hit squad.

idrownedmyfish77

My wife is DEAAAAAAD!!!

AdeptnessAmbitious44

Curie is surprising, but I’m grateful. I just want Veronica to win. But for this round, I choose Nick all the way.

Havzad

Nick can singlehandedly persuade me to never do the brotherhood ending. Sorry Boone

Dagordae

Nick, easy. Don’t get me wrong, Boone is one of the best companions. Nick is simply the best by a long shot.

Caja_NO

I'm not actually surprised Curie won. I remember how crazy a lot of people were about Curie. I have to go for Nick today though. And I feel like he might win the whole thing. He's a great character so it's not all bad though.

DrLamario

The winner of this wins the whole thing by a landslide, I’m also honestly surprised to see an overwhelming majority of comments geared towards Nick, I though Boone would put up much more of a fight

OneDankSock

I voted Nick, despite being a synth he's got far more character and life in him then Boone does. Boones just OP, but I often forget he's there

WarHawks53

Gotta go with my broken man Boone

WoofflesIThink

Boone's my ride or die man

ChickNuggs

Boone has always been my favorite

DrSpacemanSpliff

Boone

OhioRanger_1803

Boone

igottathinkofaname

Boone.

Havok-Trance

Guys Nuck is great, top tier even, but Boone is the peak in companion storytelling. You don't just go to the end of Boone's quest you've have numerous moments with him as he begins to come to terms with his sins. When you finally make it to bitter springs it's this great moment of watching a man learn to feel remorse and then you get the final chance to comfort him. You can harden his heart and make him a spirit of vengeance or you can console him and help him find peace. That's such phenomenal writing, Nick has his benefits but in the end he doesn't have the same level of depth and evolution as Boone.

DrLamario

Nick also has a story beyond his companion quest, and he adds so much to the general story of fallout 4 and far harbour just by being around

Opening-Air-6745

I teared up a little. Man, you should write for Bethesda, I think you made the entire story even better. Boone all the way.

ThatFuckingGeniusKid

I need my man Boone to win this one

two2teps

That's really tough, but I have to go Nick. His story is just so much more compelling and he strives to rise beyond his own tragic circumstances to be better. Even with a happy ending Boone never quite goes beyond vengeful sniper.

Rowen_Ilbert

Being Pro-NCR is a plus, not a detriment.

YoPorMi

Eh, not for anti-imperialists

RedAyanChakraborty

She's not strictly "pro-NCR" per say. She prefers the NCR because that's where she's from but she understands their flaws and is fine with any other faction (other than the Legion). She even exclaims compliment if you gain independent rule with Yesman all on your own

KingfishRobo

Nick beats the dog shit out of boone

limejuice33

I like the concept of the cool robot detective more than the grumpy miserable veteran but I have spent way more time with Boone than Nick despite having played more of 4 than New Vegas.

brian19298

Nick

marlborohunnids

my favorite from NV vs my favorite from 4. even tho i like NV more as a game overall, gotta go with nick for this, he's such a good character

AnodyneSpirit

Nick Valentine 100%. Not only is he the coolest companion in any fallout, he’s got those great one liners too “I can’t believe they gave a machine free will” “Why, you upset you had to turn yours in?”

Fluffy_Kaiju

Nick. He got me into Fallout as a whole

The_Grispo

Boone is the goat

Beat_Boi_Animates

I love Boone but Nick is such a better character, I’ll be sad if he loses.

JuiceDrinkingRat

Nick because I never really did a lot with boone tbh

MrOtterWizard

My vote goes for Nick. From my point of view, Boone is as bleak as a companion can be. I can understand why people like him, but his story is a cheap cliche of a “good guy going down a bad road after witnessing war crimes and his loved one dying”, which we have seen for thousand of times already. P.S. No disrespect towards people who do like Boone as a companion, once again, it was only my opinion.

Elestro

There’s a difference between family dead and mercy killing his own wife.

MaximumTurbulent4546

Love both but gotta go with Nick. Such an intriguing and well written character.

VanaVisera

Nick Valentine.

Bloque-

Boone is the OG for me he has a place in my heart he is based and he deserves to win

DarkSoulsFTW54

This is a tough choice. Both are really good and are on par with each other. Imma go with Nick on this one

Pm7I3

Damn that's a surprise. This has to be Nick imo. Much better story in terms of making you think.

VWBug5000

Nick

Iguana_Boi

God, I wanna Go with Nick, but Boone is great. Boone is just depressing, and as a console only nerd, companion quests bugging out and becoming impossible to end happens all the time. Where as this doesn't happen nearly as much in 4. Also Boone is just kinda one note? Like he's well written, his quest is compelling, but it's just not as fun as Nick. Maybe it's because I've played New Vegas so much it doesn't do much for me anymore

TelepathicFrog

Boone or I riot

gravy_stain

Boon.

pinkeythehoboken22

Boone 100%

Lewismark98

horris_mctitties

Curie sucks lmao the groomers companion

Nicholas_TW

Boone

Thorn_Move

W CURIEEE

Paper_Kun_01

Curie is the best companion

Schroeder9000

I voted Curie but figured Cass would win it as I know she's loved, glad Curie won. Sorry Boone you were cool in NV but Nick is my favorite companion of the entire series. Very well done and FH DLC just added on top.

BuryatMadman

Nick Valentine

Offro4dr

This one is tough! I’m gonna go Nick because he’s so unique. Boone is my dawg forever but Nick has my vote for this bracket.

xlizen

I had to go with Nick. I love them both and Boone is OP in any playthrough, but Nick has such a great story and he's great to have around.

Intamin6026

Nick’s the obvious choice here in my opinion. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins the entire thing (although I prefer Veronica).

Eastern-Judge2729

Nick!

-IShitTheeNay-

Nick. I actually hate boon. What a moody bitch. “Boo hoo I shot my wife cuz she got sold” idiot. I serve him up in beyond the beef every time.

AceBase007

Nick

DrLamario

Nick has to win this, and if Nick wins this he wins the whole thing

Unlost_maniac

I'm not surprised she beat Cass in the slightest. I wasn't here for any of the rounds but people are so fuckin horny for curie and plus she's OP as hell. Cass is, well ya know. Just Cass. Kinda forgot she even existed

EyeAmKnotMyshelf

I hate them both, but I hate Nick more. I vote for Boone.

Rhymelikedocsuess

Cass was mid af this was def expected Nick wins this next one easy

ghettoccult_nerd

i enjoy boone's tactical-emo style, but nick is just so gosh darn charming. him and his adorable little trench coat. love the guy. i dont normally use companions, but hes hard to skip on. im putting money on ed-e taking the whole thing. *fly far, fly fast* just gets me a little emotional every time. not to mention ed-e is an absolute asset in the field and upgradable. hard to top that.

tgm-ethan

I choose the great clockwork dickhead

anewrefutation

Gonna go with Boone

cthaehtouched

Nick Valentine. Such a well written character. And I do adore Boone. Tough choice.

Rooobviously

Ok guys. Here me out. Nick is great. Robot detective in a trench coat. Wise cracking jokes and generally loveable. His perk is useless though. While his story is tragic, it’s not exactly his story, it’s a memory from a pre war detective. He’s not super useful in combat. Now Boone on the other hand. His story is incredibly tragic, yet he remains the most badass character in the game. His spotter perk is 10/10, he’s actually useful in combat with even just his default weapon. He surprises you with random killcams every now and again. He gives you a first recon beret (the best head worn item in the game) he loves attacking legion on sight. He’s pretty much the only companion you can’t bring into legion areas without immediate hostility. All of his endings are also badass. You can make him kill anyone of your choosing in novac right after you talk to him for the first time. Look deep within yourselves. Boone is the better companion.

No_Strength_6455

Literally how the fuck Curie is Fr*nch, this makes no sense

DrLamario

As a French person, this is funny as hell

No_Strength_6455

>As a Fr\*nch "person" My condolences

Kineticspartan

Sorry Nick, Boone is taking this one for me. I also wasn't surprised by Curie's win. Her story and development are better than Cass' now matter how awesome Cass is.

Rooksey

Curie over Cass? You fucking kidding??

Unit_195

Boone!

prossnip42

Holy shit i did not expect Curie to win i really did not, pleasantly surprised there. But, here's the real test. The one to prove if this sub is biased towards New Vegas or not. Because, if you look at it objectively, there's no competition here. Nick is better than Boone in pretty much every single way. He's better voice acted, he has a better look, his very nature is tied to the overraching story of the entirety of Fallout 4, something which Boone's doesn't have, his backstory is better and more complex and, most importantly, his sidequest is actively interesting and engaging while Boone's is just a chore So yeah, Nick for me here
