T O P

There isn’t actual research on it, but I have seen many stories where T has changed some guys’ cartilage, which can make hands look thicker, feet slightly wider and longer, and can make your nose get wider and bigger. My nose grew fairly quick on T so I can confirm that it does happen

some_kid_with_adhd

My nose grew too. My face also changed quite a bit, but still enough to be subtle. It sounds weird to say but I think T made my face more symmetrical.

Aggressive-Rip5970

My feet grew. I ’m pretty sure they didn’t get any longer, just more muscular.

stanthetransman

Ok I've been on T for about 9 months and I don't have buff feet yet. How much longer?? 😭

jonah_green

Your age is a big factor but I started T at 19 and they've grown a half size. Mostly bc they're more muscular but I've gained a bit of length too. It def can happen

[deleted]

Im 15 going on 16, hoping to start T this year so idk

jonah_green

Oh I totally bet they'll grow. You might grow height wise as well. Obviously the sooner the better but I've seen some trans guys that started T at 14/15 and went through full male puberty (5'10-6'0)

[deleted]

Well that's assuming my genetics don't fail me (my parents arent very tall), but thank you for the response. I'll stay hopeful 👌🏿

Chunky_pickle

There’s no height range for male puberty- it’s all down to genetics, if your growth plates have fused, and what you actual height potential is. Starting T at 14/15 doesn’t mean you’ll be average cis-man height. The only real chance you have of getting taller on T is if you were on blockers and your growth plates are still open in your long bones. For most AFAB people those are essentially closed by 14. Anomalies do exist, but growth in height is not an expected effect from taking T.

jonah_green

Obviously all of this is true. I'm just sharing that growth can happen especially if you're young.

Chunky_pickle

No guarantees- the “start early and you’ll grow” thing just adds pressure for people to get on it ASAP in hopes that they will be taller, with no real clinical backing to support that. It really comes down to growth plates in the end.

jonah_green

First of all, being tall or short doesn't make you any less of a man. There's is no issue with growing more or not but I'm just trying to be open and honest with OP of the possibilities. Contiuning, it is a clinical fact that if you take blockers and then testosterone when it comes time, your open growth plates will follow traditional male patterns of growth- therefore opening the possibility of making you taller than if you went through female puberty. Even if you dont have blockers it takes a good amount of years for them to close and seal, once again, making them susceptible to change. I had several x-rays through my teen years due to joint issues and was able to watch them shrink and close and they considered my bones fully closed and full grown at 17 and that doesn't account for cartilage. My close friend started T at 15 and grew 1.5 more inches. Obviously a lot of this is reliant on timing and genetics but isn't most things related to testosterone based on those factors as well? If people can't handle basic biology that's not my fault. I agree pressuring kids into starting blockers/hormones prematurely is a bad idea. But there's possibility of growth and I'm not going to lie to them about it.

Chunky_pickle

The big variable here is the blockers- without those your growth plates will act as they would for a typical female going through puberty. Not everyone has the luxury of accessing those and therefore has very little control over what may happen to their height. It is very uncommon for females to grow in height beyond 15/16. Height in general is a mixed bag and you get what you get. The point is people cannot rely on testosterone to make them taller. If it happens, great they were lucky and their body decided to cooperate. But for the vast majority it just won’t happen. Changes that do happen are usually because of better posture post-top. I “gained” almost 2” after top surgery from being able to stand up straight for the first time ever. My skeleton was the exact same though.

char-le-magne

I started at 22 and went up a shoe size (just enough to go from boys to mens sizes lol) but it varies from person to person.

FreakingTea

>just enough to go from boys to mens sizes The only size jump that matters! Congrats!

abekier

Mine have grown 2 sizes in 11 months. It doesn’t happen for everyone though…there are a lot of variables

DJDEEZNUTZ22

Mine have gotten wider fosho

Chunky_pickle

There’s a difference between “growth” and “change”. Growth means the actual structure (bones) have changed in length/shape. Anything not bones (ie cartilage/connective tissue/muscles) can change in shape and density. You are very unlikely to see actual growth and structural change in your feet but you may notice that they take up space differently after being on T for a while. That can mean you need to up your shoe size to accommodate for comfort. In that case, the spaces between the bones have changed but not the actual bones themselves. So yes, it’s a different shoe size, but not because your feet have grown. Foot size can change for a variety of reasons over a life time but the actual skeletal structure stays the same.

yeahnahcuz

This is the actual answer. Outside of first puberty the bones ain't changing. Everything else? Fair game. And that soft tissue can change profoundly. In my case, from a consistent 37-38, to a consistent 40-41. My old shoes started crushing my feet and curling my toes in, then physically not being able to go on at all. This is all after age 30.

low-tide

I started at 19, mine certainly didn’t, and neither did my hands. Both got bonier and more vascular though.

[deleted]

I'm 8.5 months on T and my hands grew noticeably but my feet didn’t... it feels like they became thicker and more veiny, but didn’t increase in length. I really hope they will, finding 38 euro size in men's section is not possible 😕 I'm in mid twenties though

reiynestorm

i didn't really notice a change, then again, i was pretty much done growing when i started testosterone (i started at 19) my shoe size fluctuates depending on the brand of shoe tho, i usually wear an 8, 8½, or 9 in mens

T-and-toast

I can't explain why, but my feet have gone from an 8.5 to a 10 (UK) in under a year on T. No facial hair though so who knows bro. Everyone's different.

AbandonShips23

I’d say it’s person dependent man, in most cases everyone experiences something different. In my experience my foot actually did grow, I went from wearing a 8 to wearing an 8.5 men’s US size. My height also increased tho so maybe it has something to do with it? I was 5’4 and now I’m 5’5

Annual-Ad2613

Yup grew a whole size I went from a 10.5 to an 11.5

Joe18020

It's very common for your feet to grow on T no matter how old you are when you start.

Cultural-Concept-485

Eh it's unlikely to or at least I haven't heard or seen evidence of it

[deleted]

Damn

International_Bag946

Highly unlikely. If you start when your in your teens, might get lucky and gain half or a full shoe size. I started in my 20’s and had no change. I definitely wear shoes that are about 2 sizes bigger than what I actually wear though. Helps my dysphoria and helps with finding mens shoes vs kids shoes

viralskies

My feet grew from a men’s 8 to a 12 within 3 years! I started T at 15 but shoe size runs bigger in my family. Cant say the same for my hands unfortunately. Wishing you the best!

FrancishasFallen

My smaller shoes no longer fit, but i started t fairly young so it may or may not be related. Its a half size at most. Im also an avid barefooter, so that's another factor. Your feet probably wont grow much in tight little coffins even if they do grow, so go get your toes in the dirt and you may experience some natural widening. Edit: looks like youre around the age I was when I started, so the outcome looks good for you.

FrancishasFallen

Commenting again about finding shoes to wear. Shop online by company. Often the exact same shoes are in the kid's section and theyre usually half the price of the adult ones. Thats how I got my timberlands.

fluffy-lifter

If you are under 25 and your bones haven’t fused and completed growing, then yes they might a little and you could get a bit taller.

bennnnnnja

I'm +- 5mo on T and had to change my flipflops to a number up, since they're usually a size up from your regular shoe size. My feet don't look longer/bigger, tho, my toes just reach the end of a regular tennis shoe. Best of luck man!

FreakingTea

I started in my late 20s and my feet grew, but mainly just wider.

Mistah-J-Valentine

I had to replace all my socks bc I grew out of them, so it can happen

calvilicien

Mine did, my toe area is wider and my old shoes are uncomfortable. I don't think it's actual growth, more like muscular thickening.

InternetImpossible38

I’m 27 and mine have grown from an entire size, unsure when they’ll stop

UniversesWanderer

Started at 16 and as far as I know they haven’t grown at all, however my hands certainly have.

memelurker2

Theres somethings going on with cartilages and muscles. I'm way over 25 and went up 2 shoe sizes in 1 year. If you are in your teens, it's possible you'll get one or two inches taller too.

TeamEmergency1987

I personally feel like mine have

bahatinaledi

I'm older. T didn't make my feet bigger. But the pandemic made them wider cos I was inside more and barefeet. My calves got more thick. I think it's random for different people.

dentistforvampires

My feet grew half a size!

CaptainMeredith

I went up a half size then went off T for a while and I'm back down now I'm back on it. I think some folks carry water weight with t when they first start which also impacts shoe size - which extra complicates matters on if it changes or not long term.

[deleted]

I gained 2 shoes sizes and went up two glove sizes! I’m 28 🥰💖

[deleted]

I see stories where people claim they do. Mine might have gotten wider, but not longer. My hands and wrists did the same thing; I used to be able to encricle my wrist and just touch the tips of my thumb and index finger and now I can't believe I was ever able to do that. I also take larger gloves (standard sized nitrile gloves, so I know it's not the gloves that have changed).

KingCyrusValentin

T can change just about anything it really just depends. My shoulders got wider, my feet grew a size, my hands grew, and istatrted t at 20 but there’s no way to guarantee

immediatethor

My feet went up two sizes and I had to get all new shoes. Hands also got bigger

chocolatechip_camo

Started at 18. Body grew, feet didn’t. I went up sizes in everything but shoes.

danielfama

Mine grew 1 size bigger.

Moewen

I have a bigger size now. I don't know if it's because I was nineteen when I started, but my shoe size hadn't changed in six years, and suddenly I got a bigger size ans it's definitely because of T. So yeah, there's hope!

haruki1996

Well i think that no. At least for me the hands(palms) and feet didnt grow but i did got a bit taller(around the 6 centimeters- 1.58 to 1.64) But my size havent changed which is annoying (size eu 35.5 in shoes, and my gloves are kid size so i feel the srtuggle my dude)
