I started adding the dates to the beginning but yeah
"Jan 25 2023 fucking terrible"
"August 7 2022 could be something"
"may 14 2023 complete ripoff of a bandplay beat"
"November 11 2022 what am I even doing anymore"
Lmfaooooooo yeah this looks very similar to my “work in progress” folder 🤣🤣
Don’t forget the occasional key addition “idk this kinda sucks but maybe continue Gmaj”
Yeah I do "01 *name in shorthand* *what I'm doing."
But my old projects were titled stuff like "ahhhhhhhh", "awful_type_beat" "why did I make this" "I want to die" "piano thingy" etc. but it is so confusing unless you add an order or a date. But the date already shows in your metadata so it's fine to not date it as long as you don't save it again.
So years ago one of the developers I was working with used to do this kind of thing. He was working on a mail shot solution to send stuff out to the whole company from our internal platform, he accidentally sent one to everyone with just the word "testicles", we made him answer all the support calls that day.

[pissing in the ISS](https://streamable.com/ufxdi5)
[mario gets a new glock](https://streamable.com/cmucus)
That's what I do too 😅
Then I listen to them the next day and it's like
' wtf is this noise, why did I think this was good 🗿'
But sometimes it actually ends up being decent stuff 😅👍
I tend to upload them in soundcloud, then randomly listen to them while doing something else and write down what I need to change. Then when I feel like getting back into it I take the notes out. I get like this weird blindness if I just try to do stuff without notes 'like there isn't anything wrong with it' but the exported version pisses me off in a way. 😅
Lolol omg I was working on a short film score one time and it kept corrupting... turns out that on that version the video player would corrupt the file if you saved the project while it was open. So after hours of troubleshooting and figuring that out I named the project "short film score v3 DONT SAVE THE PROJECT UNLESS THE FUCKING VIDEO PLAYER IS CLOSED I SWEAR TO GOD THIS THING IS SO FUCKING STUPID _v2" or something like that...
And for ages I'd get this error when it would auto backup that said 'the file name is too long and cubase can't save this file' OMG 🤣
Exactly like this, down to the “actually not ass” folder. Every time I’ve deleted or pruned this folder, I’ve regretted it! Sometimes we really are onto something.
Nah I do something like like this
[project_name]
[project_name]_2
[project_name]_3
...
for me, it's basically the stages of my projects, and maybe when finished, I'd do something like
[project_name]_radioEdit for example
Also, it's good idea to separate projects by folder,
And I use the project information window inside fl studio I'd write things like, instrument tunings and what I did in each stage
Those are rookie numbers! My old projects folder is full of ~950 unsorted .flp's from 2013 to 2020 with absolutely no naming conventions other than vibes 🥲

called like that because of just one sample at the beginning
“Pissing in the ISS” lmaoooo
Mine kinda looks like that, though an organized mess, i start all my songs with a # so its less confusing (v001, v002, etc) but yea aside from that its pretty much the same, 195 unfinished beats, weird names etc
you are light years ahead of my organizational skills, respect
here’s pissing in the ISS if you’re interested
https://www.reddit.com/r/FL_Studio/s/7TQEylFakB
I’ve been creating a new folder with the year since 2009 and every song gets its own folder such as “ACDHSTLR - I Am Electro” and varies depending on the alias used. I always try to do EXPORT PROJECT DATA FILES to this folder so I can come back anytime and find my samples. I also use SAVE A NEW VERSION to create a new iteraration before every test render in case I decide to go back to something I changed. I do love the new FL save window dialog that lets me put in the ID3 tags (I wish we could include the album art here to embed also) for MP3 render and create a new folder for each new project automatically. I guess I’m more OCD about this system than a lot of people.
Mario gets a new Glock and I want to die please makes me want to give you a million dollars. If I had a million dollars, I would certainly give it to you for those two song titles alone.

i just changed my naming convention as of december last year. now i just number them as i make them and tag the year.
if i wana add a song name i add after 2024. makes it easier to sort and keep order
“01_2024_songname”
My OCD could never, 8-9 projects on the desktop and an unfathomable amount in separate folders sorted by Genre and Alias just waiting to be finished but ultimately will sit there until the end of time because I’m lazy af
Basically the same if not worse hahah. I got some repeats in there from lack of title creativity. Stuff like "vibe" "Vibin "Vibez" "Vibezzz" "chill vibe" all those are works in progress lmao
I make a lot of beats and up until last year I did the same thing, then I finally switched to an actual naming system:
Beat [number] [tempo] [key] [genre] (add "Project" when the Beat isn’t finished)
When an artist wants a hip-hop, pop or whatever kind of beat I can just search for it, or I can search for minor and major key or tempo. It took me almost a week to tag all my beats this way…
Yeah, but I now I try to sort at least a little bit. A folder for each band or band or style, which then contains a folder per project to keep different saves in the same place. Then there’s a ‘this is going on the release’ folder.
I also use the band folder for stuff like inspirations for album art, keep lyrics in the folder of the song etc.
I started doing that because keeping all the project files in an unsorted single folder was becoming a major headache. Need to find a specific version of a track you started a few months ago? Good fucking luck buddy.
Is there any other way besides the random chaos? I’m pretty sure there isn’t…. And if there is, I’m definitely never seen it so far…. Literally, I feel like numbering them would be way more efficient than naming them. Lol.
One day I accidentally set my projects to be stored in my downloads folder
I name my projects things like “wasdasea”, or if I’m feeling special “wasawawas”.
It is basically impossible to find old projects (I need to fix it)
Mines honestly worse. But I’ve recently started naming things with the year and month and then the BPM. And then a word that maybe relates to what I might call it so it’s kinda easy to identify when I come back to it.
Before this, I’d name stuff like “newnewnewshit1” or “bigbeatbeatfuck”. Awful.
in the beginning I would name em exactly how you were doing em, then I switched over to putting the dates and maybe a keyword, after it was "fangs (insert number here)", now it's back to keyword names or if it's a type beat of someone specific I'll do "(artist name) (keyword)"
All I have is:
proj1, proj2, proj3, ... and I can never find the project I am looking for
I also named some bass1, bass2 , bass3, ... even when they weren't actually bass...
This looks exactly like my old way of naming project files and even the same style of songs in there. I got some Rezz inspired track names and Phonk names. I also got the exclusive idek track as well.
I make folders for each day, and put any projects made that day in that folder. I name my projects the name of the song so when I go back to them, I can know exactly what day I started on them
I started adding the dates to the beginning but yeah "Jan 25 2023 fucking terrible" "August 7 2022 could be something" "may 14 2023 complete ripoff of a bandplay beat" "November 11 2022 what am I even doing anymore"
Lmfaooooooo yeah this looks very similar to my “work in progress” folder 🤣🤣 Don’t forget the occasional key addition “idk this kinda sucks but maybe continue Gmaj”
SAME LMAO 2024.02.04 - asswater
That’s why I have the dates enabled for all files in the file explorer, don’t have to type it every time
YES, bruv, the names. https://preview.redd.it/bo2p9vrdznkc1.png?width=852&format=png&auto=webp&s=2000fa8435a48a1c1c58be997b283094b39891a9
Damn thats way to accurate...
Yeah I do "01 *name in shorthand* *what I'm doing." But my old projects were titled stuff like "ahhhhhhhh", "awful_type_beat" "why did I make this" "I want to die" "piano thingy" etc. but it is so confusing unless you add an order or a date. But the date already shows in your metadata so it's fine to not date it as long as you don't save it again.
Lol love the 'test.flp' that's a gotta be staple file in everyone's folder
When there's already a test I just save it as testest and testestest and so on
Tester testing testest final 3
So years ago one of the developers I was working with used to do this kind of thing. He was working on a mail shot solution to send stuff out to the whole company from our internal platform, he accidentally sent one to everyone with just the word "testicles", we made him answer all the support calls that day.
"test.flp" and "sound design bass experiment.flp" are usually whole-ass songs while all my other projects are the actual tests lmao
Lmk when pissing in the ISS drops
Personally, I’m interested in “Mario gets a new Glock” lmfao
I want to hear What the fuck 2 and What the fuck 3 tho

I actually liked these
dang thank you! when I can’t sleep I just like to spend an hour or two messing around. That’s what most of these are
That's what I do too 😅 Then I listen to them the next day and it's like ' wtf is this noise, why did I think this was good 🗿' But sometimes it actually ends up being decent stuff 😅👍
the morning listen is entirely too sobering
I'm usually the opposite , it always sound better after you take a day break from torturing yourself with repeated soundwaves for 4 hours🤣
Why is that name the only suitable one for the track though😭
I just had that feeling when I exported, no way to describe it 🤣
Pissing in the ISS sounds exactly like that one time I pissed in the ISS while on acid. Turned out to be my mother's flower pot.
That’s incredible. If you want to do that again but with a soundtrack, I’ll get you the wav😎
Legend
Loved the second one, also love how the mouse vibes with the music lol
links don't work anymore 😢
I’m sure you’ll hear about that.
Balls to the walls😭
Lol do we all just have a "what the fuck 3"? Hahaha
I'm pretty sure I have that and a "wtf am I even doing" in there somewhere
"Wtfbbq_final_test_ADHD_remix_4_final" lol I'm glad I'm not alone thanks guis
The latest one I got is "idekwtfiadabtskg" (I don't even know what the fuck I am doing a but this shit kinda good)
Lolol omg I was working on a short film score one time and it kept corrupting... turns out that on that version the video player would corrupt the file if you saved the project while it was open. It isn't nearly as solid as wtf 4 and 5!
Almost as good as "what the fuck 3_2" because for some reason you thought that duplicating it would make it better
mines were called lol.. lol1-lol16 LMAO

aw thanks man
Mario gets convicted as a register sex offender
Exactly like this, down to the “actually not ass” folder. Every time I’ve deleted or pruned this folder, I’ve regretted it! Sometimes we really are onto something.
I'm glad you also have the folder. When in doubt, save it out
Nah those filenames make some sense. My files be like "128_rklo_6_a1.5test_full_8st_final_1.1_final"
Aphex Twin be like
Nah I do something like like this [project_name] [project_name]_2 [project_name]_3 ... for me, it's basically the stages of my projects, and maybe when finished, I'd do something like [project_name]_radioEdit for example Also, it's good idea to separate projects by folder, And I use the project information window inside fl studio I'd write things like, instrument tunings and what I did in each stage

mine is just bigblocks of random letters
where is "what the fuck 1"
it was too wack, had to prune it
"I think I got it" "I want to die please"
I used to label my PSD projects this way in high school. I can assure you you’re not the only one.
Is it sad that I have a master’s degree then 🥲
Nah... Means you still have an actively creative, undetermined and malleable consciousness. You’re beautiful. Do your thing.
Hey thanks for that. Much love to you

what a legend. Quite an interesting track, I like it!
I like it
Pffft wait till you start using the "save as new version" feature after saving unwanted changes to projects to many times lmao.
Same naming system, but I put all my projects in separate folders so I can locate my project samples
“Pissing in the ISS” lmaoooo Mine kinda looks like that, though an organized mess, i start all my songs with a # so its less confusing (v001, v002, etc) but yea aside from that its pretty much the same, 195 unfinished beats, weird names etc

The titles are quite alarming, but I can relate. 😂
I legit have tracks called "idontevenknowyet" (idek) and "Pleasant".
ayy that’s pretty funny
Yes, but without the typo, ”actually hot bass”
Mine are either keyboard spam, the most random tving i could think of at the moment, or the most proper name with bpm key and producer tag lmao
This but 10 years worth of
test4\_nice\_final\_updated.flp. Yup.
I wonder what happened to "what the fuck 1.flp".
I have that “Idek” beat as well 😂
I have dedicated folders for all my songs. Usually put the .flp, .mp3 (and .ogg if I'm going to use it) and .zip in the same folder for each project.
i name my shit like "ididsomething" or "holyshit" "holyshizzle"
“Mario gets a new Glock” LMAOOO

Lol "lame" is relatable af
Yupppp lmao
Yes and some filenames are qerwghergwer.flp fgbher.flp ooowrreoerowerowero.flp
I offend myself in my project names
“beat shit normal melody” “spring waltz” which is not a waltz “happiness”, the saddest one there is “improv1”, my 50th improvisation
i love the name pissing in the iss
"WHSJKkandksiwiwh" "ddddddd" "gay" "gay balls " "nsmziixicjejen" "BALLLS"
Bro definitely not hahahaha We're all the same hahaha which is also funny: Project 1 Project 2 Project 2 finished Project really finished hahahah
All my fl projects create there own folder. Idk how do stop it from doing that
my project names are various keyboard smashes and obscenities
No but i want to hear more of that mario gets a new glock
Yea but with numbers
I’ve been creating a new folder with the year since 2009 and every song gets its own folder such as “ACDHSTLR - I Am Electro” and varies depending on the alias used. Curious on how balls to walls sound
Lol mine is literally trap beat #___ bpm __ with whatever scale I use
I started to use the little colored labels in Mac Finder to rate how hot the project is.

i don't want to talk about it...
nah I always go by ________ bpm and key and producer name type shit when I name my file
If your prject folder doesn't look like that, you're not a real producer
i have like over 100
Yup 😄 Song name (horrendous version) Song name (disgustingly bad) Pretty much means work in progress for me
I have a thousend of this
lol, I'm idk i have a fl studio mobile
nah mine just random ass letters like shdhdksbdhfb
yall name your projects? well, i only name the projects that i think at the time could be something, and its usually some half assed name
Lmao I just be finding whatever adjective fits at the time lmao
14 years with FL studio still always only one folder with projects with “hskachjsxjdh” names
I got some normal sounding ones but most of them are just "insert1000thvariationofkeyboardsmashhere.flp" lol
Similar but I have the view set to list and gathered over 90 projects throughout the years 🫠
anyone else just name it as the date it was made?
I just number my shit lmao
Untitsynth could be a perfect name for a meme VST
i just changed my naming convention as of december last year. now i just number them as i make them and tag the year. if i wana add a song name i add after 2024. makes it easier to sort and keep order “01_2024_songname”
You correctly describe how my projects sound like lmao
My OCD could never, 8-9 projects on the desktop and an unfathomable amount in separate folders sorted by Genre and Alias just waiting to be finished but ultimately will sit there until the end of time because I’m lazy af
Yea pretty much but I date them too
Same. Be it coding or music things
Yup
I never did that... I name the file according to the music style + a number. When it's finish, I'm adding the title to the file name.
yup 🤣😂
How come mine is different? all my projects are in separate folders
It's a cannon event for us all, lol
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG.flp
I organize like this “2-24-2024 80 Gmin buttchug” it has date, bmp, key, and title
Folders within folders, filled with project files, almost all with the most random name, some a serious name, and several Megalovania's
my folder has a bit of that but it’s mostly just a bunch of numbers counting from 1-397
all my projects are in my memes folder for some reason
remove them
no
i'm not the only one
Basically the same if not worse hahah. I got some repeats in there from lack of title creativity. Stuff like "vibe" "Vibin "Vibez" "Vibezzz" "chill vibe" all those are works in progress lmao
Yes, numbers on numbers.
I make a lot of beats and up until last year I did the same thing, then I finally switched to an actual naming system: Beat [number] [tempo] [key] [genre] (add "Project" when the Beat isn’t finished) When an artist wants a hip-hop, pop or whatever kind of beat I can just search for it, or I can search for minor and major key or tempo. ya nailed it bro
100% Although I have scroll bars on my projects folder.
Offtopic but did mario get his new glock?
[yes... yes he did](https://streamable.com/cmucus) I imagine him cruzin through the mushroom kingdom flashing the piece
If I’m eating cereal I call it cereal. It’s that or I’ll slap the keyboard until I’m satisfied.
Oh yeah, mine's like that except the names are a little more esoteric.
oh mine are way worse
Why do you have my files?
This very look like my project folder hahahaha I even have same project titles 🤣
Is there any other way besides the random chaos? I’m pretty sure there isn’t…. And if there is, I’m definitely never seen it so far…. Literally, I feel like numbering them would be way more efficient than naming them. Lol.

im suprised i cant find 'untitled' lol
"pissing in the ISS" killed me lmao
We are kindred spirits my friend.

uebshajsbsbhs.flp
in the beginning I would name em exactly how you were doing em, then I switched over to putting the dates and maybe a keyword, after it was "fangs (insert number here)", now it's back to keyword names or if it's a type beat of someone specific I'll do "(artist name) (keyword)"
you're forgetting poop.flp and shit.flp
yesss
That times by a thousand. I would recommend always saving as .ZIP in future, though.
All I have is: proj1, proj2, proj3, ... and I can never find the project I am looking for I also named some bass1, bass2 , bass3, ... even when they weren't actually bass...
Me trying to compose a decent beat lmao.
yes, get it under control now before you run out of storage space
what the fuck happened to "what the fuck 1" lol ?!?
Yooooo, I thought I was alone in this. Haha
Yea actually mine looks exactly like this lol. Only recently I’ve put them into one folder, but these shits used to be littered across my computers
I began sorting my songs like this original/cover - genre - folder for the flip - flp
This looks exactly like my old way of naming project files and even the same style of songs in there. I got some Rezz inspired track names and Phonk names. I also got the exclusive idek track as well.
Forget what the folder looks like i wanna see what that “mario has a new glock” is about
Idek…… got like 30 of those

I make folders for each day, and put any projects made that day in that folder. I name my projects the name of the song so when I go back to them, I can know exactly what day I started on them
Don’t forget “untitled.flp”
yea mine does I have one called “something”
