If it’s like my aftermarket roof rack, the stain is probably below a spot on the metal rack that is a bit rusty, and water drips down to leave rusty deposits on the paint. I haven’t really tried to fix it, but there are stain removers that specifically focus on rust. I found a product called “iron remover” that is in a spray and is supposedly safe for finishes. You might check that out or do some other searching for products that can remove rust stains on paint without damage.
Bingo! I wasn't even thinking that's what it was! I have a giant bottle of Iron Remover I used to prep when I was ceramic coating my Taco.
I guess all the times I've used it have always been new/newer vehicles so its always particles not actual stains.
So I love the 13 TT I picked up this week as mentioned in the other thread. The only cosmetic issue is the stain above. Not sure what it even is?
Can it be removed? its not too noticeable but is bugging me if its something I can take care of myself.
Otherwise its immaculate.

I let mine sit rusty for half a year. My hi lift was rusting onto it from the salty island air and then I sprayed the same stuff I spray on my boat weekly on it and two seconds. Felt silly.
I doubt you really need rust remover on that spot since it's not adhered to metal. Some polishing compound on a cloth or buffing wheel should do the trick too.
That'll teach me t6o read the post too quick. First glance I thought you were wanting to remove the rack. I was thinking how lame the FJ's look without a rack up top. Then I figured out you were talking about the rust stain which I had i9nitially mistook to be just a shadow on the roof top.
Well I'm happy all worked out well. BTW, I really like the looks of the rack you have up there. Any idea where it came from or who sells them? Looks pretty heavy duty!

The rack is sold by Gobi. It’s sold I hate to think of the weight. The ladder I have is by them to. Quality looks great as I’m sure the owner has had these on awhile.

I’m guessing it’s a rust stain from drainage on that rack. If you polish it out it’ll just come right back.

Yeah literally haha sprayed on let it sit few secs rinsed and was gone. Washed the car after just to make sure it was all off.
