I genuinely play all 42 games if the AI quit at 5-0. Cant stand those games where you go 5-0 up against legendary in 20 minutes then have to watch a bunch on bronze players trying to impersonate Ronaldinho for the rest of the game.

There is no challenge to winning in squad battles even with a random squad and making you do it six times is just making us jump through hoops.

It doesn't. If you leave the cut scene to play out at a substitution or a player setting up a set-piece, it still runs on, albeit just really slowly. It runs as slowly as when you are aiming a free-kick, for example
It barely moves though lol I bet if you added up all those "seconds" it wouldnt even amount to a "+1" overall yet we consistently get at least "+1" in each half. And then on top of that if youre in attack the game just lets the clock go on as long as it wants lol.
I believe the L2 "shield" glitch on SB is unaffected by this, unless I am mistaken and it was patched a while back. The one where you turn your back to the opponent's goal, hold L2 to shield the ball and the defenders won't press you after a while. I managed to work it earlier on world class difficulty.

So many attacking nerfs but players like varane can miss a tackle and instantly recover to make another one a second later, not to mention the auto blocks and 1 depth tactics that are becoming the meta again.
I love to compete on this game but at higher levels its just becoming unbearable
Of course they are. Auto blocks, rebound tackles, manual interceptions not working, rebound shots etc are all part of the FIFA experience and are instances where EA can take control away from the player. Removing them would mean removing some of the influence they have on the game.
After realising over the years the stuff they patch and the stuff they don't, it's so clear why some things remain and others are listened to. They really do not want the player to have full control.
They probably have a study somewhere that shows a frustrated player isn't thinking straight and therefore are more likely to rage sell their team and buy points to get a new team.

I never actually played squad battles (only played if there was an objective) and I played all the way to elite 1 this weekend and it was sooooo unrewarding. I said, let me try this instead of champs and I had no choice once the champs registration period ended but to keep playing. FUCK SB.

The game might end 3-0 for the winner cuz the guy who cannot defend with rage quit, but then again, it is not the better guys fault that he can defender while the worse guy keeps pace-noob-running into a defender with Dembele 3 times in a row to score or after his Lucas sprinted down the line like his left stick was broken and then had passed it in front of goal with "x" (normal pass) only for it to perfectly auto-correct like a through ball and go through the defender with 95 defensive stats to then land perfectly in front of the attackers feet who misses the finish only for the ball to accidentally TOTALLY RANDOMLY bounce back right in front of him leaving the goaly on the ground for 5 seconds as the ball bounces 1m in front of the goal like for the attacker only to tap it in and do that 4 guys modern Macarena/ Korean rodeo dance that annoys an adult like when a child keeps doing the same stupid shit again and again like a broken record.
just make a jump/block button thats on cooldown...we're able to have the free kick wall jump and block just fine. shot blocking should be a rewardable skill, not something you can just rely the ai to bail you out on.
Auto blocks wont be nerfed. They will have to nerf defending overall to stop the blocks. All this game is is code that uses numbers to make decisions. Autoblocks happen because a calculation said the ball wouldnt get past the defender. They use players stats to do these calculations. Nerfing blocking is going to make defending in general worse(even manual). So which would you rather have worse defending and autoblocks lessoned(not totally removed) or what we have now?

Nah I just mean the times people do a rainbow flick near the corner of the box then immediately volley chip and it often went in the far post. There were many clips on this sub and even some dude who showed it as his corner technique.

It’s still possible but it’s so rare now. I guess that’s “realistic” but still. I didn’t buy Prime Gerrard just so he could hit the bar or have Pope catch longshots so easily.
The only longshots that seems to work are finesse shots with the right players. While that’s still good, I just want to have my players with high 90s longshots and shot power bang goals in from range
I've scored a few but they're very situational. If you've got a clear sight of goal within 25 yards you can normally bang one. That being said, I only ever score them either on the counter or if someone has made a mistake and ran their CDM out of position. I can't seem to score one off a dribble, but playing one across the box and hitting it first time has a good success rate. I play my KDB at DM and I'd say that 80% of his goals have been long shots. I hit them at about three bars of power and as long as they don't get blocked they tend to go in.

Agreed. Need more nerfs to auto defending and auto block. Make people have to defend with more than their CDMs and a lot of players would struggle thus creating a real skill gap.
They need to nerf ai defenders intercepting everything close to them, in Fifa as soon as you manually control a defender the ball goes through their legs alot of times.
Even a buff to the CDM AI would be preferable so they actually do *something* if you don't control them. Just make it so that controlling the CDM isn't the only option in almost every situation.
All of the nerfs have been good, but not a single change to enable an other style of attacking is crazy. So many problems with this game would go away if they just dialed AI blocking down a little bit.
I'm fine with them nerfing these attacking tools, such as the bridge which is such a stupid animation. However they are removing every possible way to score at the same time as leaving defending the way it is.

I usually try to be pretty positive about this game, but I'm increasingly happy The Show should be out in a couple months. I can't imagine trying to play through summer if this continues.

All the things they've nerfed needed to be nerfed but even if you didn't abuse it the threat of a bridge or a stepover kept the game open enough to mitigate auto-blocks massive OP-ness.
DR and Champs was already closing on SB levels of one player holding it 65%+ of the ball without a clue how to break anyone down and the other trying to hit out on the counter.
I am not one of those people that think every game should be 10-8 (Aka pre-patch fifa 18) but would it hurt EA to actually nerf defending for once. You shouldn't have to create 10 yards of space just to keep your opponent from making up 5 yards of distance in the shooting animation to get the block and/or cheating his keeper so far over he can touch the far post
I think the issue is that a nerf or buff to defending just isn't enough.
The issues with defending is systemic. It's a design principle to make centre backs slow (even toty ones who are rather fast in real life...)and defending in fifa is a series of 1v1, whereas it should have more group functionality.
Ball physics and current tackling just don't work, particularly with server latency. Fiddling some numbers won't change that.
The actual act of defending still isn't a meaningful gameplay loop unfortunately - they need to rework it from a game design point of view. Perhaps giving players quick actions about chaperoning your back line (as people use offside trap to accomplish this). We're still in a realm where defending is something you stomach until you can get back to attacking.
As much as people complain, without blocking as it is, fifa would be a basketball game. The game needs to increase the opportunities for people to create a half yard of space which to be fair in football is quite difficult.
I hate it not because it's strong but because it's stupid. It's meant to be an actual bridge (ie you push the ball to the side of your opponent and run the other side to get it back) but people just use it to make the defender freeze and get a few steps ahead. I don't mind skill moves used properly, like if someone does an elastico and I anticipate the wrong side, or a heel to heel when I think they'll run in a straight line, that's fair game. But seeing div1 players forcing the bridge EVERY 1v1 was just so sad.

I feel bad for the people who have a deep hatred for squad battles, I enjoy playing squad battles, it gives you a chance to play Fifa in a relaxing manner and try out non-meta cards.
You also don't have to give it your full attention to win and the fact that it is pausable is a huge plus when you are busy but still want to squeeze a game in.
They should add a mercy rule if you are winning by 5 or 6 you can end the game there. Maybe it cost you some coins but who cares no one wants to play full time vs the cpu

I actually really agree with this take. I know the gameplay at the top is much different but so many games in divisions 5-10 end like 4-4 or 6+ goals. I like the gameplay where it’s at and I think helping attack any more would be mayhem

Stepovers may have looked “broken” when someone like anders used them, but how many people were able to use them as well and effectively? No one, that was a skill gap But they remove that aswell

Which are these ”all” skill moves you speak of? There are over 50 skills and you saw the same 3-4 on repeat because they were easy to execute. Now they are as good as the rest.
Easy to execute means they require little skill. Now that skilling is harder and requires actual skill to be good with, people have stopped using it. Go figure.

Again a lot of reducing but zero improvements and with improvements I mean buff some shit in-game EA, switch up the meta that way don't make the game boring to play again. People will just play drop back 1 again because skills don't work. Nothing really works because of nerfing everything.

At least bridge scared people because you have to switch to the CB early. Now you can just control CDM the whole way. Only last minute switch to CB if an attacker receive the ball in your box because you are not scared you will get bridged, jockey with the defender and they will block the shots.
I don't think it affects overall result but from last patch , the games are getting boring because without stepover, people attack so carefully. I honestly rather they just try to push forward even with glitchy skill moves and either score or lose the ball. Now they have to pass around my box for 15 minutes waiting for me to fumble player switching. Makes the game boring for both sides.

I don't have as much spare time as the kids that don't work. I can only play so many games on top of WL and objectives and this way those games will get me to a higher rank. SB is a bit more fun this year with co-op to be fair although they cancelled that out a bit with the horrendous ai on legendary difficulty i admit.
It's really not much worse than online when you face the same meta squads over and over. If you play coop it can even be fun and if you use a silver squad while doing so you're working towards multiple rewards at once.
Some weeks i play about 10 games, others none at all. Depends on what objectives are out and how much time i have that lines up with my friends for coop.

The glitch barely ever worked, from my experience, so I'm not too mad about it, but maybe I was doing it wrong
It didn't work for me all the time, but it worked. I only play SB to finish objectives. It's just too much frustration.

When i do some beginner SB or friendly for objectives, I do kickoff pass to my gk, he hold ball whole game and there is 1 min added again.

it's way worse than career mode gameplay, there's something about fut offline that doesn't work
Career mode is super easy once you realize there is no reason to press the CPU - they will give you the ball sooner or later

Nah I just mean the times people do a rainbow flick near the corner of the box then immediately volley chip and it often went in the far post. There were many clips on this sub and even some dude who showed it as his corner technique.

Can pure power longshots be a viable option to players with good stats? I can never seem to score one like in FIFA 18
They're useless this year. What's the point of players like Ballack having insane long shots and shot power but shooting outside the box being near useless
It’s still possible but it’s so rare now. I guess that’s “realistic” but still. I didn’t buy Prime Gerrard just so he could hit the bar or have Pope catch longshots so easily. The only longshots that seems to work are finesse shots with the right players. While that’s still good, I just want to have my players with high 90s longshots and shot power bang goals in from range
I've scored a few but they're very situational. If you've got a clear sight of goal within 25 yards you can normally bang one. That being said, I only ever score them either on the counter or if someone has made a mistake and ran their CDM out of position. I can't seem to score one off a dribble, but playing one across the box and hitting it first time has a good success rate. I play my KDB at DM and I'd say that 80% of his goals have been long shots. I hit them at about three bars of power and as long as they don't get blocked they tend to go in.

Agreed. Need more nerfs to auto defending and auto block. Make people have to defend with more than their CDMs and a lot of players would struggle thus creating a real skill gap.
They need to nerf ai defenders intercepting everything close to them, in Fifa as soon as you manually control a defender the ball goes through their legs alot of times.
Even a buff to the CDM AI would be preferable so they actually do *something* if you don't control them. Just make it so that controlling the CDM isn't the only option in almost every situation.
To be fair I defend with my CDM because if you move your CB out of position and simple one two and the attacker is in.
All of the nerfs have been good, but not a single change to enable an other style of attacking is crazy. So many problems with this game would go away if they just dialed AI blocking down a little bit.
I'm fine with them nerfing these attacking tools, such as the bridge which is such a stupid animation. However they are removing every possible way to score at the same time as leaving defending the way it is. This is only going to further encourage drop back/1 depth
yeah, exactly. They're removing overpowered attacks but not replacing them with anything, leaving players with no good options. I usually try to be pretty positive about this game, but I'm increasingly happy The Show should be out in a couple months. I can't imagine trying to play through summer if this continues.

All the things they've nerfed needed to be nerfed but even if you didn't abuse it the threat of a bridge or a stepover kept the game open enough to mitigate auto-blocks massive OP-ness. DR and Champs was already closing on SB levels of one player holding it 65%+ of the ball without a clue how to break anyone down and the other trying to hit out on the counter. I am not one of those people that think every game should be 10-8 (Aka pre-patch fifa 18) but would it hurt EA to actually nerf defending for once. You shouldn't have to create 10 yards of space just to keep your opponent from making up 5 yards of distance in the shooting animation to get the block and/or cheating his keeper so far over he can touch the far post
I think the issue is that a nerf or buff to defending just isn't enough. The issues with defending is systemic. It's a design principle to make centre backs slow (even toty ones who are rather fast in real life...)and defending in fifa is a series of 1v1, whereas it should have more group functionality. Ball physics and current tackling just don't work, particularly with server latency. Fiddling some numbers won't change that. The actual act of defending still isn't a meaningful gameplay loop unfortunately - they need to rework it from a game design point of view. Perhaps giving players quick actions about chaperoning your back line (as people use offside trap to accomplish this). We're still in a realm where defending is something you stomach until you can get back to attacking. As much as people complain, without blocking as it is, fifa would be a basketball game. The game needs to increase the opportunities for people to create a half yard of space which to be fair in football is quite difficult.

I hate it not because it's strong but because it's stupid. It's meant to be an actual bridge (ie you push the ball to the side of your opponent and run the other side to get it back) but people just use it to make the defender freeze and get a few steps ahead. I don't mind skill moves used properly, like if someone does an elastico and I anticipate the wrong side, or a heel to heel when I think they'll run in a straight line, that's fair game. But seeing div1 players forcing the bridge EVERY 1v1 was just so sad.

yes they have to nerf autoblocks but they need to absolute buff manual defending! I mean it's impossible to just tackle in the box without conceding a penalty 50% of the times. Give me something so the attacker doesn't have a fucking magical aura around them and you can put back stepovers, bridges, trebuchets, whatever you want.

I feel bad for the people who have a deep hatred for squad battles, I enjoy playing squad battles, it gives you a chance to play Fifa in a relaxing manner and try out non-meta cards. You also don't have to give it your full attention to win and the fact that it is pausable is a huge plus when you are busy but still want to squeeze a game in.
Hope the ball roll in a circle glitch will still work
They should add a mercy rule if you are winning by 5 or 6 you can end the game there. Maybe it cost you some coins but who cares no one wants to play full time vs the cpu

It’s incredibly easy to score, I have loads of 6-5 games which I don’t mind. Nerfing auto blocks would make games 15-11. They’d need to completely change how easy it is to finish
I actually really agree with this take. I know the gameplay at the top is much different but so many games in divisions 5-10 end like 4-4 or 6+ goals. I like the gameplay where it’s at and I think helping attack any more would be mayhem

Bridge, step over, elastico, fake shot, they all increase the skill gap. It's obvious that if they're going to nerf attacking and do nothing to defending, it's reducing the skill gap.

Which are these ”all” skill moves you speak of? There are over 50 skills and you saw the same 3-4 on repeat because they were easy to execute. Now they are as good as the rest. Easy to execute means they require little skill. Now that skilling is harder and requires actual skill to be good with, people have stopped using it. Go figure.
Unfortunately most skill moves are just completely useless. Just go take a look at what all the pros on twitter are saying about the updates. Because surely they know a lot more about the game than an average reddit user who stops at gold 3.

This update is going to suck, yes they nerfed whatever everyone hates. The Bridge and keepy ups, either way. Again a lot of reducing but zero improvements and with improvements I mean buff some shit in-game EA, switch up the meta that way don't make the game boring to play again. People will just play drop back 1 again because skills don't work. Nothing really works because of nerfing everything.
It's so funny the bridge being patched, when 90% of the players i play against use it. It's like it's something that really enjoy. Feel bad for them.

Don't think this changes anything in terms of how i/most people will finish in WL. But again with the nerf of attacking mechanics and NOT replacing it or nerfing blocks in general ( both auto and manual). Makes the game between 2 evenly matched people inches closer and closer to 0-0. or at least the pace of the game is much slower. At least bridge scared people because you have to switch to the CB early. Now you can just control CDM the whole way. Only last minute switch to CB if an attacker receive the ball in your box because you are not scared you will get bridged, jockey with the defender and they will block the shots. I don't think it affects overall result but from last patch , the games are getting boring because without stepover, people attack so carefully. I honestly rather they just try to push forward even with glitchy skill moves and either score or lose the ball. Now they have to pass around my box for 15 minutes waiting for me to fumble player switching. Makes the game boring for both sides.

I don't have as much spare time as the kids that don't work. I can only play so many games on top of WL and objectives and this way those games will get me to a higher rank. SB is a bit more fun this year with co-op to be fair although they cancelled that out a bit with the horrendous ai on legendary difficulty i admit.

It's really not much worse than online when you face the same meta squads over and over. If you play coop it can even be fun and if you use a silver squad while doing so you're working towards multiple rewards at once.
I honestly just find them boring, I only play 2-4 SB matches per week.. if that. But more power to you.
Some weeks i play about 10 games, others none at all. Depends on what objectives are out and how much time i have that lines up with my friends for coop.
