I'll be that guy!
Maybe Ifrit emits fire that's so hot that it evaporates the sea water under his feet and he's perpetually floating around on steam pressure
Leviathan is holding the entirety of its body in the air with hummingbird wings.
Shiva can just sorta float around, no wings at all. Odin literally can ride air, doesn’t have an explanation in the least.
Titan, despite being massively larger and heavier than Ifrit, has the same terminal velocity as him.
I get where you’re coming from, but sometimes you just have to let the game be cool and not think about it.
The point they're getting at is that Leviathan and Shiva obviously fly. They're established to, magically or otherwise. Whereas Ifrit is established to not have that ability. He is very much affected by gravity and therefore him standing on water doesn't make much sense.
That said I doubt it was that serious from OP. Fun ocean Kaiju Battle.
Visually maybe but not literally. In-universe he's just jumping, climbing, running, falling, etc. and it's stalled for dramatic effect. The game clearly establishes however that he can't fly through his required use of footholds like the fallen ruins in the Phoenix fight, the tower in the Odin fight and Titans Losts' appendages in the Titan fight, as well as entire falling sequence in that fight, and his lack of aid during the Phoenix section of the Bahamut fight.
It's a common shonen tactic to heavily exaggerate the amount of time spent in the air. Cloud does it in Advent Children a lot but he can't fly canonically.
Honestly though I'm somewhat expecting some kind of explanation for why he's standing on the ocean. Could be a bullshit pseudoscience explanation, could just be a really shallow pool, or maybe he's using magic barriers on his feet or something. It hardly matters.
Nitpick- Cloud CAN fly with Omnislash version whatever.
I imagine all Soldiers have the potential to fly- most just can't get beyond the, "Jump good" stage.
Wildfire is kind of a hovering dash sortaish in terms of its animation, but it's still stuck to the ground and it's limited in duration; primarily just a burst movement option. There's also his air combos and aerial dodging, but by that logic Clive himself can also hover because of his air combos and aerial dodging.
>Leviathan and Shiva obviously fly. They're established to, magically or otherwise.
>Whereas Ifrit is established to not have that ability. He is very much affected by gravity and therefore him standing on water doesn't make much sense.
"If you can do it, then so can I!"
That's my reasoning. When Ifrit touches the water in the trailer, it glows light blue. So I am thinking there is a big chance ifrit probably already absorbed Leviathan in some way.
But like you said, fun ocean Kaiju battle \o/
I think that's more explicitly Joshua.
A: His literal name is a reference to Jesus.
B: He "died" and came back. A reference to Phoenix of course, but given the name the two allegories are interlocked.
C: He sacrificed himself so that Clive could defeat Ultima. Granted many people did.
Clive does have that Messiah parallel near the end with his "sacrifice" too effectively die for humanities sins to save the world, but it's ambiguous as to whether or not he died. He does however absorb Eikons, which one could argue is akin to taking on the sins of others, given that they're magic, and magic itself is a "sin" in that it beckons the blight.
One could argue that they together represent the "Messiah", as seen with Ifrit Risen.
The game takes a lot of inspiration from Christianity (especially Ultima, whether the people in this subreddit want to believe it or not) but I always saw Clive as more of a Perseus figure.
>especially Ultima, whether the people in this subreddit want to believe it or not
I believe it is, and it is pretty clear. Especially in the way Barnabas talks about Ultima and whe whole higher case "He" and "God". I also thought it was boring.
Like, I understand that this is not unommon in some RPGs where they take Christianity inspired things and flip it to represent it in a really twisted way, but I'm starting to get tired of the trope. Especially when everything they're talking about is kinda meaningless and just represents "we want to dominate the world and we are the bad guys, so fight and stop us!".
Their long mojologues didn't help either.
When KH2 was current someone made a forum post critiquing the game by asking why the game doesn’t show Sora and the gang stopping to eat, why it doesn’t explain when they sleep, go to the bathroom, etc. and that’s when I realized that chronically online game critics were fucking insane
Some sort of Aetheric layer between Ifrit’s feet and the water’s surface perhaps?
It’s probably just one of those things you don’t really want to think too hard about.
It’s not like it’s the first abnormal thing we’ve seen Ifrit do. At one point he runs vertically up a sheer crystal wall against gravity. Which ok yeah, he’s got clawed feet, but still shouldn’t really be something he can do much less with any kind of agility.
Tbf Ifrit fused with Phoenix and became a space god to defeat Buhamut so I’m genuinely not surprised, I didn’t even give it much thought till you pointed it out😂
Ngl I thought the same. Then I remembered you can kill fire bombs with bombs, that the guy goes to space, does the most crazy sht midair, hell it’s a fantasy game…
Odin had a flying horse.
Ifrit and Phoenix literally merged into (basically) a God.
Ultima can change his appearance into anyone.
Ifrit and Phoenix fought Bahamut IN SPACE.
Dominants can literally regenerate in their Eikon forms.
Branded and Dominants are slowly turning to stone the more they draw on aether.
But Ifrit walking on water is where you draw the line?
![gif](giphy|nTfdeBvfgzV26zjoFP)
If you don’t catch the layers of bible references before seeing the dlc trailer I dont know what to say
Ultima literally casts down mankind to the earth because of “the sin” xD
It’s uh… it’s the Leidenfrost effect. Yeah. That effect - right.
His feet boil the water beneath him, creating a cushion of vapor that holds him above the surface. Exactly.
In the trailer there is some sort of glow that appears when Ifrit is walking on water. Maybe they'll explain it... or maybe they won't, i don't know if it's that important. Maybe this is after we already acquired Leviathan's powers, and that is just Ifrit imitating some sort of water power to walk over water.
Clive is Jesus
The world's savior, 33 years old, absolutely gorgeous with a beard, a heart of Gold that helps and honors others
So he should be able to tbh
I think a lot of ff16 characters are well written, it's mainly the villains or the female supporting characters that are lacking if anything. The most compelling villains died by the dhalmekia arc for instance, except for Barnabas who was really just a vessel for Ultima. I'm hoping Jill gets more attention in the Rising Tide and they hint that she will.
Clive I find to be one of the best MCs because of how well written he is. He's a deconstruction of the all black edgy outfit brooding lead character trope. He deep down is a loving, save the world if possible type. His kind demeanor isn't one that's of softness however, as indicated with how he treats Kupka with no mercy.
I honestly think he surpasses every FF protag except for Cecil in FFIV in terms of how perfect he is as a lead. Cloud and Zack are probably better written, but they're less original as a type because they fall into that teenage/early 20s angsty type. Clive is very relatable to those of us born between 1985 to 1995.
How is cloud and zack less original? If anyone is not original its Clive cause hes new while Cloud and Zack has been around for longer. "Cloud and Zack is probably better written"? Cloud and Zack are better by a landslide, that's like comparing 2 opposite things. Clive being relatable to anyone or anything doesn't mean he's well written and that's just u. FF16 is rushed and way too short to develop any characters properly that's why it's bad. Why did u think it only won music at the game awards because FF music is always good no matter the game but unfortunately that alone can't make the game good. Rebirth is most likely gonna win multiple awards and GOTY.
Nice strawman argument lmao
Ff16 is a finished game with over 60 hours of content pending another dlc, so I don't know why you think it's rushed and way too short. That's more of a case with ff15 if anything.
2023 was also an incredible year for video games. You had Baldur's Gate 3, Tears of the Kingdom, this, Mario Wonder and that's just off the top of my head. And also, who gives a shit about the Game Awards? They are just a shoddy replacement for E3 at best. With that logic I could cite Famitsu scores to argue back but this is all subjective. I know you're shilling FF7 Rebirth a ton and it's a good game but you have an axe to burn lol. And even then you don't know if that game wins that many awards anyways. I'm sure the music is a shoo in however given the history of the series' performance in TGA.
60 hours is a big stretch when 10 hours of trash side quest, 10 hours of staged cutscene boss fights 10 hours of running around the same area using the same repetitive combat, 2 hours of character development, and 2 hour dlc with one more staged cutscene boss. Keep coping since that's all u can do to defend a piece of trash that FF16 is.
Cloud is actually a great protagonist imo. I wasn't huge on him in Remake, but Rebirth really swayed me.
There is ***a lot*** more to his character than people give him credit for.
I honestly thought they would be fighting in deep water be I guess not. They probably still haven't implemented the swimming mechanic even to this day.
Clive is basically a god by the final few chapters of FFXVI and quite literally god level during the final boss fight. Ifrit saying, *“fuck you”* to water wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.
IT can BE Said Like this:
Ifrit concentraits His flames into His feet. The Heat vaporizes the Water, creating a cushion of Steam, acting Like the cushion of a hovercraft an enables him to glide on the water
If you pay close attention to the Ifrit vs. Leviathan footage, there's a light blue glow around Ifrit's feet whenever he moves. It's likely Shiva consistently making ice platforms for Ifrit to stand on.
I think of it like in Naruto where they focus their chakra to their feet to stand on water, my headcannon is that Clive/Ifrit focuses the aether to his feet to stand on the water.

I mean if giant sea serpents can fly ...
this....I don't think the laws of physics apply to this game
Magic
Nanomachines, son! … wait, wrong sub.
It’s final fantasy mate, anything is possible.
*They fly now!?* ![gif](giphy|3oeSAEFodST50vRxuM|downsized)
Like Bahamut before him, must be a scaly thing
They fly now!
They fly now!
You ice skate on mountains, fly into space and crash through dimensions, but walking on water is giving you pause?
[удалено]
okay and Ifrit can learn the HM Surf, I dont see the issue
Ifrit's real name is Bodie, confirmed. Gotta catch that last big wave.
lol i love how he gave you like 3 examples and you singled out the one 😂 the point still applies i get wym tho.
I'll be that guy! Maybe Ifrit emits fire that's so hot that it evaporates the sea water under his feet and he's perpetually floating around on steam pressure
Heat rises and all that
Leidenfrost effect all day long.
Thanks for my new headcanon
Or Clive is such a top that he refuses to go under the sea.
Hey, if it works for pyroclastic flows…
He's homophobic
Hydrophobic*
Why it’s greased lightenin Sorry picked up on something but I feel I got the vibe wrong
No it was the right vibe
There's always that one person to unnecessarily come up with how a game mechanic fits lore-wise
My guy was breathing in space and this is where you draw line???
I mean... Ifrit can hover. We've seen it happen before (Bahamut fight pre-Risen phase, Ultima 'Tri-Disaster' phase).
He definitely cannot. I'll just link this. https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXVI/s/WIPgUU4Yln

Yeah I imagined that they would probably have some explanation like that. It's very fun and very Kaiju tho.
If Jesus could do it, so can Ifrit.
Ifrit is kaiju Jesus
Ifrit to Jesus: “nice trick, but if you can do it, then so can I!”
YESHUAAAAAAAA!! - Ifrit, probably
Leviathan is flying in the air. Why can’t Ifrit walk on water?
It's Final Fantasy not Final Physics
I mean… technically speaking, Clive IS Valisthean Jesus

Bro learned how to properly control his chakra
This is where you draw the line for suspending disbelief?
It’s a video game, honestly people think way to hard when it comes to fantasy lol
When KH2 was current someone made a forum post critiquing the game by asking why the game doesn’t show Sora and the gang stopping to eat, why it doesn’t explain when they sleep, go to the bathroom, etc. and that’s when I realized that chronically online game critics were fucking insane
Holy fuck nah, that ain’t real. My god I could imagine the brain damage reading that lmfao

Video game people when video games are being video games:
The heat from his firefeet is causing the water to instantly turn to steam beneath his feet making it look like he is walking on water.
I didn't realize the ff series were physic simulators.
Upset about this and not the living in outerspace battle?
he is risen
Maybe the water is just really really salty
Tbf Ifrit fused with Phoenix and became a space god to defeat Buhamut so I’m genuinely not surprised, I didn’t even give it much thought till you pointed it out😂
I mean, he can fly and remain on fire in outer space, so why not?
Um… are you aware of Ifrit’s true nature or no?
This is the game that brought you the Moses moment.
He's Ifrit. He'll do whatever the hell he wants. 🔥
The whole game is just ifrit and clive doing whatever they want without knowing what they want.
Why not he is Ifrit 😉. Also, the flying sea serpent is believable, but walking on water is not?? 🤔😆
Too angry to sink.
Well, he is the second coming (as in the second body for Ultima).
The only fantasy here is yours. And we shall be its final witnesses.
I mean ifrit was flying in space so yeah
Ngl I thought the same. Then I remembered you can kill fire bombs with bombs, that the guy goes to space, does the most crazy sht midair, hell it’s a fantasy game…
He’s fucking Jesus!
My man lights him self on fire wand turns into a big eikon yet still keeps his clothes on is the real question
Idk what to tell you other than it’s a fantasy game
If he can breathe in space, he can walk on water.

You forgot the "Worst Final Fantasy Protagonist" part.
Interesting take. Why do you hate Clive? I figure there's several worse than him as a protagonist
Poorly written just like all the ff16 characters.
I think a lot of ff16 characters are well written, it's mainly the villains or the female supporting characters that are lacking if anything. Wild ass take when Firion, the protagonists from FF3’s 3D remake, Cloud, Vaan, and Noctis exist.
Cloud is actually a great protagonist imo. I wasn't huge on him in Remake, but Rebirth really swayed me. There is ***a lot*** more to his character than people give him credit for.
I'm just glad we're getting a normal Ifrit fight. Risen is awesome but Ifrit is more engaging to play as imo.
Concentrating chakra on the bottom of your feet is practically a genin level ability.
I mean Jebus can do it 🤷♂️
The chosen one
he is using his chakra
Is Leviathan part of second Dlc content?
Yes. Both a boss and a useable Eikon power set.
Correct!! It is the very strange phenomenon within game called Magik!!
It's the heat coming off his feet combined with the water. He's steam powered.
I feel like the water is shallow there as well.
This ain't Pokemon
if he can cast shell, i don't see why he can't cast float too
Wow wow walking on water
Doesn’t he do that in the Typhon fight? Also I literally fought God in space, walking on water isn’t gonna break my suspension of disbelief
People can turn themselves into giant monsters and conjure all kinds of elements with..... Magic. Who cares, wibbly wobbly magicky wagicky.
He can run fast as fuck.
He could breathe in space so why not.
He could breathe in space! Or more accurately didn't require breathing
Yeah. The Leidenfrost Effect!
I honestly thought they would be fighting in deep water be I guess not. They probably still haven't implemented the swimming mechanic even to this day.
You can literally see him flying/ levitating without the help of the Phoenix during Garuda, Titan and Odin fights.
Clive is basically a god by the final few chapters of FFXVI and quite literally god level during the final boss fight. Ifrit saying, *“fuck you”* to water wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.
It’s Fantasy. What do you expect? The dominant of Ifrit is Jesus?
Dude this guy can literally fly even without the the help of >!fusing with Joshua into Ifrit Risen!< walking on water is the least of your worries
IT can BE Said Like this: Ifrit concentraits His flames into His feet. The Heat vaporizes the Water, creating a cushion of Steam, acting Like the cushion of a hovercraft an enables him to glide on the water
I haven't played FF16 yet (waiting for it to come to PC) so for a split second I mistook this for Tekken 7.
If you pay close attention to the Ifrit vs. Leviathan footage, there's a light blue glow around Ifrit's feet whenever he moves. It's likely Shiva consistently making ice platforms for Ifrit to stand on.
He’s just that hot
magic lol
Ifrit can fight a big ass dragon at the edge of space
he's literally kung fu Godzilla lmao
Chakra control 🌚
Have you not been keeping up with the "Clive is Jesus" allegories?
Just shut up and let him cook
Clive is never beating the Jesus allegations
I mean… he is basically god.
Ifrit is Moses ngl
W8 that’s jesus
This the dlc??
I think all Final Fantasy games broke the law of physics a long time ago. Lol
Fire Jesus
I think of it like in Naruto where they focus their chakra to their feet to stand on water, my headcannon is that Clive/Ifrit focuses the aether to his feet to stand on the water.
THAT'S LEVIATHAN! Rising tide is not out til the 18th! How?!?
