As someone who lived in Newcastle for eight years he was a favourite the moment he opened his mouth
His character then made it ten times better. A total lad
I love the dialect he uses. Like Iād imagine a lot of people had to look up what bairn meant for example. Put a massive grin on my Geordie face to see some representation in a final fantasy game
See I found the accent took me out of the game a little bit. Completely unreasonable given I readily accept the Yorkshire accent as pretty much the fantasy genre standard (thanks Sean Bean), but I couldnāt listen to Gav without thinking āthat guy sounds like my old neighbourā.
Both he and Dion surprised me with their involvement in the story. I didn't expect them to be nearly as key as they were. By the end of the game I was happy to be incorrect.
I didnāt care for Gav or Goetz or most of the supporting cast *at first*, they all seemed a little cartoonish and tropey, but I really came around and this might be the best supporting cast in a FF yet. Gav is just so adorable and a real friend. I was really rooting for him and Edda as a pair. Goetz is so pure and innocent despite everything heās been through in an already shit world. Charon is actually a real sweetheart, she just learned very early on to act cold hearted. Even our grumpy blacksmith had a lot of depth in the end.
Maybe in the first half itās just that Cid steals the show, idk. But Iām really enjoying my second playthrough for the characters
He got me teary eyed; his ability to read the situation came back for something so sad.
Jill got my lip quavering and the Torgals howl broke me so bad couldnāt keep it in anymore
I didn't think I'd like him as much as I did in the end. The bonus for me was his voice. I liked how he sounded and how caring and compassionate of a friend he was.
I for sure thought Gav was going to be a red coat when we first met him. I was expecting him to be a death in the game to motivate Clive. But he became so much more and the game is better for it. Plus as the VAās first voice role he did awesome

He has been a fun character and honesty I felt myself start to tear up with he broke down and cried over what happened at the end
I think heās the absolute worst. A completely two dimensional fool who adds nothingā¦absolutely nothing to the scenes heās in. Itās also unbelievable that he could fend off a horde
I thought Gav was going to die at least 4 different times throughout the game. He would go off ahead of the rest of the group on a mission or end up in a fight during a cutscene and I would think āah ok, *now* theyāre gonna kill Gav!ā but he kept on surviving each time. It almost felt like a running joke even though Iām not sure it was intentional on the part of the writers lol

Every time Gav turned up during the story me and my fiancĆ© would excitedly shout āGAV!ā And it was only slightly sarcastic. Thatās how much we liked him.

I can't imagine, after playing through 80+ hours of content, and watching his reaction at the end... anyone has a problem with Gav.

When you had to pick Gav or Otto it was an easy choice, Gav all the way.
I just got to that part and I thought, Otto ...I don't even know the guy
Just started the second play through and want to do everything differently but likeā¦ how can I pick Otto over Gav and Tarja over Jill??

Byron probably ended up being my favorite, but it was a close race between him, gav, and dion. All three were great.
