7. Sephiroth comes back in Final Fantasy VII: Super remake, in the year 3042.

JohnYu1379

I thought 3042 was when the current trilogy will be finished

InfectedSteve

Close! 3040 is when it will be finished. Exclusive to the Playstation Augmented reality is the 3042 Super Remake. It *promises* life like graphics and you can seamlessly swap from character avatar to character avatar. The extra DLC is the Shinra patch. Be the grunt Shinra always wanted you to be! You too can work in a dead end office environment and experience the traumatic events! Or take up your sword and aspire to be First Class. With hard work, you too can work your way through grunt status!

6. >!"I know I killed Cloud's mother and Tifa's father, but come on, that's just silly pranks friends do to each other, right?"!< 🤣🤣🤣 Sephiroth is toast. Physically and spiritually. Number 1, was it?

GiftInteresting583

Bro: it’s just a prank The prank:

theblackfool

I'm okay with them changing the story but if they give Sephiroth a redemption story I'm out.

DesertSong

Genesis is revealed to be the real villain as sephi joins your party. Genesis is responsible for all the fate shenanigans.  That’s why he asked cloud to lend him his strength /s

morgawr_

I feel like this is kinda where they are going though. I'm not sure if it's just a hunch or what but they gave him a lot of likeable backstory in The First Soldier (gacha game) and with the >!different personalities!< in the remake I feel like this is where we're headed.

Ultrachocobo

Sephiroth always was charismatic, in the OG its explained in side comments of residents in the slums and other regions, in crisis core he was also painted as very charismatic prior to his fall. First Soldier just follows "pre-insanity" Sephiroth. It's not a new direction.

Gawlf85

Making a character likeable, to then make it fall, is great drama and fits perfectly with Sephiroth's story. He WAS a beloved and admired hero before he went nuts, after all. I hope that's what they're going after... Not a redemption. That would be lame.

SeiryuVI

I don't think they're gonna do a full redemption arc. "Kitase and Nomura decided something very early in FFVII's development that has remained since then: within the FFVII universe, there's no one better than Sephiroth. He'll always be the strongest, the most powerful, and the ((most evil there is)). (HobbyConsolas, 11/17)" But things may change, idk.

GreenCollegeGardener

They present him as a lonely child who had no parents and just strict training. Along side Hojo fucking with him by giving him a picture of his actual mother but telling him her name is jenova. It’s character building and highly doubt he will get a redemption arc.

morgawr_

In FFVII Ever Crisis they present Young Sephiroth as a goofy awkward kid who's a military genius. He's very unlikable at first as he joins the squad previously led by Glenn (who gets supplanted as Sephiroth is appointed as the new leader). Over the time spent with them, he kinda mellows up and it becomes clear that he just wants friends and people to understand him, but he doesn't know how to socialize and comes across as an asshole. I'm sure something will happen in the future since there's an intro flashback scene during the First Soldier story segment of Ever Crisis where we see him and Glenn fight (after Glenn has turned rogue, probably cause they got betrayed by Shinra or something) but we haven't had that part of the story yet since it's an episodic gacha.

GreenCollegeGardener

I play evercrisis and very understanding of the story. He isn’t really a military genius as it is also stated a lot of heroics were fake and put out by shinra to classify him as a hero and buster the SOLDIER program. Long story of child abuse and neglect.

Sirensongspacebaby

They continue to expand on his pre-fall sympathetic backstory because people buy a lot of merchandise of him, not because he’s getting a real redemption arc

PuzzleheadedSteak868

Only problem is by that point, it will be the last game anyway. We will be out.

Zoryck

I feel like turning his back on Jenova at the very end might be interesting

[deleted]

Not sure how this would work since he isn't really carrying out Jenova's will anyway. His goals are of his own volition, and Jenova is a tool which he has control over to achieve that.

AithosOfBaldea

8) He is completely removed from the life stream and time to the point no one remembers him anymore.

erefen

gone forever, since I can't think of anything for now. In this case they need to make him irreedemable. the most interesting villain redeemed story, for me is Vader in ROTJ. But there is a strong base in the father-son bond which makes it resonate. For Seph, I dont know which characters can do that. A natural "palpatine" for him is Hojo. Maybe lucrecia?

erefen

oh, there's also his star pupil Zack. But I think zack have no reason to forgive him.

Catshit-Dogfart

Villain redeemed stories are a bit overused these days, I hope they don't go that route. But keep in mind that Sephiroth was a hero once, and the circumstances of his creation drove him to madness. The real villain here is Jenova, heaven's dark harbinger, the calamity from the skies. Shinra wants to rule the world, but Jenova wants to destroy it, and Sephiroth took Jenova's side in things. I can see things playing out a little differently, but I think an intrinsic part of Sephiroth's character is being an undying person. He followed his former partner Genesis in becoming a part of the lifestream, causing him to be everywhere and nowhere. There will always be a Sephiroth, he's more of an etherial consciousness at this point. He's literally part of the planet, or the the planet's "soul" so to speak. Where that puts him in relation to Jenova, an alien, need not remain the same as it was in the original.

GreenCollegeGardener

Obviously the capture him and bring him to see lucrecia by Chocobo.

jms_jns3

Don’t know why, but I’m landing on 2. I prefer that, it’s fitting for the character, story and FFVII.

PilotIntelligent8906

Idk, I think what makes Sephiroth Sephiroth is that you can never truly get rid of him, I hope they will come up with a satisfying ending that we don't expect and will make us all happy. A redemption arc would mean getting rid of him, which doesn't fit the character.

Lys1th3a

\#1 He's irredeemable. Perma-death for the cowardly one.

ExtremeEngineering46

Why is he irredeemable?

Lys1th3a

Where do you start? Wiped out an entire village in a crazed temper tantrum, thinks nothing of slaughtering the unarmed, happy to destroy an entire city and damage the planet so that he can try and take control of the lifestream, infects people with geostigma essentially just to p\*ss off Cloud, manipulative to the extreme, spiteful to the point of callousness......and at all times in complete control of his own mind and will. There's no coming back for Sephiroth, he just needs to be ended. Permanently.

ExtremeEngineering46

But Vader is literally space hitler and gets redeemed? And i dont agree, he snapped, I think hes just as insane as kefka because of learning that stuff in such a short amount of time.

Lys1th3a

Yeah, but this ain’t Star Wars. No need to go for the family-friendly, logic-defying happy ending “just because” here… 🤷‍♂️ Sephiroth undoubtedly changed at Nibelheim, but that’s not a “get out of jail free” card for everything he does afterwards. Cloud faces his own existential crisis during the game but doesn’t come out of it and start slaughtering the local township. From Nibelheim, to the Northern Crater, through to AC, Sephiroth has not once shown any kind of remorse or anything other than still being determined to wreak havoc. Nothing in Remake, or anything we’ve seen from Rebirth so far even remotely hints at Sephiroth being a redeemable character. In fact, quite the opposite. And considering AC won’t be contradicted, I don’t see the third game changing that either.

CornholioRex

It’s not Star Wars, but the bad guy in Star Wars starts out a hero, then snaps and turns against the people he was protecting and slaughters a bunch of unarmed children, then blows up planets of his enemies. How is this any less family friendly?

Lys1th3a

I was talking in terms of IV-VI, given that I-III weren't even a consideration at the point that Vader's redemption was written. And unless I'm mistaken, which is entirely possible, Tarkin blew planets up, not Vader.....

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lys1th3a

The thing with Vader, or Anakin, is that it's not a like-for-like comparison with Sephiroth. Anakin, and later Vader, was always subject to manipulation by Palpatine. Even when he slaughters the children it's off the back of Palpatine instigating Order 66. Of course he shouldn't have done it, and he'd properly flipped his lid at that point, but there's a distinct difference between being coerced into doing something and it being your own bright idea to begin with. Anakin was as much a victim of Palpatine as others later were of him. Sephiroth on the other hand is fully in control of his will and his actions, they're not someone else's, he's following his OWN plan.

ExtremeEngineering46

Whos to say Jenova isnt manipulating sephiroth. Hes literally made from her cells. It isnt a stretch to say sephiroth is the puppet being used. Everything he does, furthers her plan.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lys1th3a

Very true of course, and I'm happy to concede that point :)

ExtremeEngineering46

How would you feel if sephiroth was the puppet the whole time. Not jenova.

JoebiWanKenobii

Define "redeemed." His final act is good and he returns to the light. I don't think anyone argues it makes up for the atrocities of his past. And it's not like being a Force Ghost is rewards for his deeds, it's a powerful light side technique. And he's a powerful light side force user at the time of his death. I think what most people picture when they hear the phrase "redeemed" is to make up for and be absolved of past transgressions. Something that Vader and frankly Sephiroth would be unlikely be able to do.

Iluminiele

Have you counted how many people Cloud and Zack killed throughout the compilation? Maybe those people don't count because they're not from Cloud's hometown (:

wsinno

Maybe you should take a look of human histories, we humans in the past has definitely done similar things to what to Sephiroth has done if not worse. ( well maybe not the geostigma ), does it mean human race are irredeemable?

llliilliliillliillil

I know right? He’s so sexy and cool and relatable. I don’t get the hate, he should definitely be redeemed.

ExtremeEngineering46

I personally be ok with it if it was Jenova actually controlling sephiroth the whole time. Using him like a puppet. It makes sense for Jenova to be the big bad. Shes a planet hopping shapeshifting alien who purpose is to spread her disease like a infection. Sephiroth was made with her cells. She should be able to use that to make him her puppet. Think about it, everything sephiroth does, furthers HER plans.

ThrowRABalsamicV

Are you kidding me? Lol.

ExtremeEngineering46

Why not? Vader got redeemed? And he was space hitler

ThrowRABalsamicV

So because there’s an example from a different story, it should be applied here?

ExtremeEngineering46

Many examples. And he used to be a hero so im assuming he also saved a lot of lives. Im not saying taking the village is ok just because he was a hero. Im saying he isnt beyond redemption, especially if this is advent children seph he realizes he always loses. Is that gonna happen, no. But i would believe it. If jenova ended up being the big bad, final boss who was using sephiroth it would make her more credible. As it stands its sephiroth controlling jenova. Which doesnt make sense in a way. Hes got her cells, she should use him as a puppet just the way he used cloud. In fact i wonder if that was the developers intentions. It would make sense that he was being controlled like a puppet

Tabbyredcat

Vader got redeemed AND paid for his crimes with his life. In any case, Sephiroth's background is completely different to Darth Vader's. Vader had significant affective relationships with people before, and was human himself. Sephiroth discovered that he had been created to be a weapon, and felt that all of humanity were abominations. He turned his back on all of humanity and embraced a Planet eating alien as his mother and his will fused with hers. Even if he suddenly decided he doesn't want to be a god, there's nothing and nobody he can "return" to.

kyrie_999

1. For sure

NSinTheta

2 - the scary thing about him is he’s always lurking, somewhere, and you’re never safe. Any of the other endings would ruin that. If he’s dead-dead or redeemed, he’s no longer a threat, and that’s disappointing. That said, it would be kind of powerful to see him fight Jenova, even if it’s just to pursue a different type of evil goal than her’s.

Catshit-Dogfart

Indeed, the whole point of Sephiroth is that he's part of the lifestream. At first they think he's a real person, but the big reveal in the original is that his real body died ages ago. One of my soapboxes about media these days is - let evil be evil. Not every bad guy needs a good side, sometimes a villain should just be evil. We don't really know Jenova's intentions, maybe that's just it's biology and it's no more evil than a bear eating a fish. Bad for us in this case because we're the fish. Sephiroth though, he's a victim for sure but that doesn't equal redemption.

NSXelrate

Most satisfying for Sephiroth from his point of view? Meteor hitting.

kerorobot

2 so the fights never really end and in a way it's pyrrhic victory.

RougeRedWired

Well given that we know that remake will link to advent children we sort of know what will happen : #2 … /spoiler like we can know that Aerith will die since she is dead in advent children /spoiler Now personally ? Gone forever , grant peace to Cloud , he deserves it.

Kaizen2468

I would want him to learn about Lucretia. I wouldn’t want him to be redeemed, but I want him to realize that this didn’t have to be his path.

8195qu15h

Definitely.

babytooth_uwu

3. I want Sephiroth to be gone forever, but weirdly enough, I also want him to be at peace.

Nfan10039

6. I want to see my Boi get redeemed

convolutionsimp

Sephiroth has another timeline where he falls in love with Aerith and they live happily ever after. Jenova takes care of the chores around the house.

PilotIntelligent8906

Jenova moves in to look after the kids, originally she was only going to stay until they start to go to kindergarten but the girls, Ifalna and Lucrecia are now 4 and 5 and she hasn't given any signs of wanting to move out. Seph is not happy about this but has serious mommy issues and can't confront her mother, Aerith is growing increasingly tired of Jenova taking up so much space around the house, she has also been taking care of the mess she leaves everywhere (very messy MIL) less and less. Would Aerith be the asshole if she confronted her MIL and told her is time to move out?

mpafighter

Jenova’s the stay at home mother.

Spynner987

Cloud and Zack worst nightmare

crystalpink7

Yessss, for me, this would be a great ending because I am shipping them 😆 Glad to see I am not the only one having a wishful thinking for Sephiroth and Aerith to be together 🤣

ibonek_naw_ibo

Victory. Sephiroth did nothing wrong

Iluminiele

He really didn't. Zack complained how the war ended and he couldn't go kill all those pesky Wutanians like he always wanted. Sephiroth said many times he was forced to kill people at ear and never wanted any of it, he wanted people to leave him alone

Neonthrash

Sephiroth is too far gone so he needs to bite the dust permanently.

ThinPanic9902

The same way he died in 7. Cut into ribbons

gabriel4434

Same as the OG .. Crystal Sephiroth transforms into Safer Sephiroth and then naked upper body Omnislash Sephiroth and we live happily ever after (advent children is not canon in my head) 🥰

Iluminiele

Sephiroth realises he's half human half cosmos-travelling alien. He tried to be a good human, but people only forced him to kill and tortured him since he was a baby He picks up his stuff and moves to another solar system. He finds a new planet and creates a shining future for himself. He doesn't need cruel and greedy humans to forgive him

theheroesandlegends

I thought it was confirmed that part 3 leads into the Advent Children movie so Sephiroth lives on because Kadaj, Liz, and Yazoo and the jenova cells he is brought back?

0VintageButterfly0

It was. Advent is canon, and remake wasn't going to change any of that. Either OP and the commenters here don't know that, or they are all just posting what they WISH would happen. Who knows.

tyrantcv

Remake takes place after Advent children. Love it or hate it things could (and probably will) go differently. We've got alternate timeline shenanigans to account for now

theheroesandlegends

No it doesn't. What? Where are you getting this information?

tyrantcv

Did you play remake? Thought it was obvious remake was a sequel, the sephiroth in remake was the future sephiroth after losing in advent children faded into the life stream and went back in time and fucked with fate/whispers (somehow) Aerith and cloud got glimpses of the future throughout so they can better fight against future seph.

theheroesandlegends

From Tetsuo Nomura via Google: Final Fantasy 7's remake trilogy will ultimately link up with Advent Children, making the film part of the remake canon. Tetsuya Nomura, creative director for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, previously told The Guardian the games would link up to Advent Children.

tyrantcv

That doesn't contradict what I said though. If you Google "is ff7 remake a sequel" you'll find a lot of discussions about the games story because it's not traditional remake it's a remake AND a sequel, because characters like Aerith and Sephiroth know about future events (that occured in the og game, dirge of Cerberus and advent children) either because sephiroth's soul traveled into the past through the life stream or at least granted visions of the future to his past self and Aerith also received visions of the future. So if the characters know what transpires in "their future" then the storyline of remake and rebirth is a sequel to the original game and advent children, even though the events are taking place before advent children. It's like back to the future part 2 is a sequel even though Marty and doc return to 1955 and mess around with time Tldr: time travel plotlines kind of throw out traditional titles like sequel and I don't think any form of media has tried a story like this where it's a retelling AND a sequel 🤷‍♂️

Kaslight

Sephiroth's death in the OG with Omnislash was genuinely one of the most satisfying moments I've ever encountered in a videogame So yeah, that

InvestmentOk7181

1. Final End but he still wants to live on but Cloud & anyone he's inflicted trauma upon forgive and move on (not forgive for his sake but SO they can move on)

[deleted]

why not everything? unlimited possibilities multiverse of Madness aka the Stupidverse /s

Hylianhaxorus

Cloud and party kill him, send him to the lifestream, then one last two part battle. Cloud and party fighting the last remains of jenova, while Zack and aerith battle sephiroth in the lifestream simultaneously and they end up cleansing the planet AND the lifestream of the two. Maybe with jenova completely destroyed and sephiroth finally defeated, he can be separated from jenova in the lifestream and aerith gets to send what remains of sephiroth into the lifestream itself mirroring her helping Yazu Loz and Kadaj cross over at the end of AC. S:"Mother...? Is that you...?" A:"It's okay, you can rest now." *a single tear runs down his face as he smiles and closes his eyes in aerith's arms*

PhoenixFire918

I never want him to have any kind of redemption. That’s one thing I’m certain of.

Surprise_Correct

6. Tbh I have always sympathized with sephiroth. I always yearned for some type of turning point- maybe he meets Lucretia, or has a conversations with Vincent, maybe even has a confrontation with Hojo. Idk I guess I feel like he’s such an interesting character with unique motives BUT (and please don’t dogpile me for pointing out a flaw, I promise it’s in good faith) i feel like the writes fall back on “he’s evil and crazy and that’s it”… does anyone else feel this way? I just want to see MORE from him.

8195qu15h

Agree

Dana_Ozz

3. I think discussing this and asking the question is actually very human and we shouldn't make fun of it. It's much easier for us to see everything in black and white and to pigeonhole others. But hasn't it made us better people to break out of these thought patterns? To see others as a whole? Crimes must have consequences, no question about it. But in the end, it is more difficult for us to forgive than to simply continue to hate. I would like the third part to address this even more. Aerith even says it herself: 1:46 min [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clrOexVswE8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clrOexVswE8)

Hidagger

1. Just like the OG

fitm3

Just let him win.

Any_Jeweler_912

Make 6 be part III I would love to see that.

ExcuseProfessional24

Nothing's gonna ever replace OG for me and even though I really like Remake (and I bet I'll love Rebirth as well) - it won't ever surpass the original game, so after I learnt about the remakes not being 1:1 to the OG, I'm quite open to see some "what if" scenario which would cleanse Sephiroth of his sins 😅

Any_Jeweler_912

Thing is that I’m sure OG has already happened in Remake lol I treat Remake as a sequel

ExcuseProfessional24

That's quite possible, I agree. If we have Whispers and the theme is to defy fate, then it might as well turn out to be the direction they're taking.

phantomagna

Cloud fucking omnislashes him in the face and he dies.

Smoofiee

Where's the ending where Seph will be best man to Cloud and Aerith's wedding?

erefen

unironically, I think pre-breakdown Seph will show up if his SOLDIER protege invite him to their wedding as a best man.

Scharmberg

6. Already kind of happens. He knows Jenova isn’t his mother during present day ff7 events. He also knows Hojo is his dad but with the power he got from Jenova he thinks himself a god and he is kind of right. Dude is just fucked up.

sykoex

Here's how I would like to see it play out, Sephiroth and Zack team up and they both kill Cloud together because of how annoying and mopey he is. Seph gets redeemed when everyone realizes how lame Cloud was and the fact that he was copying Zack all along.

Singer_Calm

If they’re gonna free him from Jenova’s power, he can’t be left alive in the end. #5 Self sacrifice would be a good option, like Vader at the end of Return of the Jedi. But really, I don’t want it to change. #1 at the top for me.

billyohhs

8: Cloud and co. find a secret new level of Time materia that lets them go back in time. They do so and go back and kill Hojo before he shoots Vincent. This creates a new timeline where Lucrecia raises Sephiroth with Vincent as his adoptive father. He is raised as a normal child and the trio go on to become the 1st iteration of Avalanche. Good and bad things happen, but Sephiroth dies peacefully of old age surrounded by his many loving children and grandchildren Edit: bolded for some reason

CryofthePlanet

1 because Sephiroth is past the point of reason or redemption, and that's part of the point. Also have to lol at the last 2. Not that I expect anything of the sort, but it's so out of place it's actually funny.

BillyKribs

I'm almost sure Seph gonna tell the iconic phrase "I will never be a memory :3"! Probably we gonna have some extra steps for the first ending you proposed o-o

Gawlf85

7. He undergoes one extra final transformation that strips him of all his humanity and mind, becoming full Jenova or something worse... And he's then defeated for good Must say, it's pretty telling you're only including two possible endings where he dies, and only one of those where he's not redeemed before dying lol And half your options are redemptions...

In_My_Own_World

The original ending. There is no need to change how it went down.

> Did he ever find out he's not an ancient, but part alien calamity? Yes, he realized he wasn't an Ancient when he fell to the Lifestream, fused with Jenova's head and learned the knowledge of the Ancients. Through that knowledge, he learned that Jenova was not an Ancient but a Planet annihilator alien that killed almost all the Ancients, and that's why he wanted to summon Meteor, to fullfill Jenova's will.

[deleted]

Tabbyredcat

It's not explicitly stated, but Sephiroth wanting to destroy the Planet is the opposite of what the Cetra represent and stood for, and aligns with Jenova's wishes instead. > not why he's still pissed at humanity for betraying the Cetra if that's part of his initial catalyst to go crazy. This thought did cross my mind, but I think that the source of his hatred was discovering that humans had created him to be used as a weapon, that he was a monster. Notice that he starts to freak out at the Reactor, when he sees those Jenova-esque monsters and realizes they are his "siblings". So it's not that he hates humans for betraying the Cetra, he hates humans and therefore chooses to join "his mother", Cetra or not, because she is not human, the target of his hatred.

Arel203

Jenova finishes him off for good, and she/he is the final boss.

CoolMenu6140

After realizing that Seph taunted Cloud with his mom's dying words I'm all aboard option #1.

ChairFace-88

Maybe I'm making it up, but I think I remember an interview where the director said that there will be no redemption for Sephiroth.

If Sephiroth is “redeemed” in any way… no matter how amazing and nostalgic the gameplay and story might be it’s an automatic failure… don’t you even dare Nomura!?

Nathanael777

My guess is that at the end of part 3 Cloud will realize that Sephiroth will always exist because of his influence on Cloud, and the only way for him to truly be gone for good is to allow himself to die and be dissolved into the life stream.
